actually taking care of my turtle is what helps my depression the most, i have always had a nice connection and admiration for every animal ever. i have a red eared slider that was abandoned by it's original owner and she had shell rot in the beginning. i saw a bit of me in her. i never gave up on her and a week of treating her she got better. now a few years later she is healthy/happy/larger and beautiful. i love her very much. some times i get "but it's just a turtle?" all animals deserve equal opportunities to a great life, especially if they aren't able to help and provide for themself. i plan to get a few more pets in the future. ♡ i understand you so much taylor. i love all your lovely pets. please don't stop what you're doing.
precious lil juvia I also have a res turtle and I really can’t understand how people just say “it’s just a turtle”. To be fair, I think mine is like a dog stuck into a turtle body and he’s super sassy. When I get sad he knows when to bother me and I agree with you. All animals deserve a good life. Sometimes they understand us more than people do.
Cynthia K that is very true. your turtle sounds precious. my girl is kind of fiesty. i was told while she was neglected they left her in a tiny box, all she ever did was knock on the walls over and over. now she has much more room but she's quite aggressive and territorial. she bites unless you actually put your hand/finger near her mouth then she backs off. she's literally all bark and no bite. i love her so much and she's comfortable enough to take food from my hand and willingly climb all over me. others tend to think turtles are timid, introverted bricks that don't do anything at all. mine is quite active and has plenty of character. turtles are just like any other pet, they require actual stimulation and attention unless you want them to become hostile or sick. any pet you get will demand proper care. what actually makes people think that you can own a living source, just leave it on it's own and expect it to maintain sufficient health and happiness? okay no. as someone who goes out of their way to buy an animal make sure you can provide for it as if it was your actual child, if not then they should not own a pet. it is simple as that. animals grow, eat, make messes, get sick and some of them really just want to be held and loved. ♡

Do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself, including distancing from them if necessary. It sounds horrible but that's part of what I had to do to get stable and on a healthy path. Not everyone needs to understand your journey but they still need to be respectful of it.

I just want to say thank you for saying what you said about mental health. Ive really been struggling with my own mental health recently. Like seriously struggling. So to hear someone else say what you did...it means more than you know. I hope all is well with you. Stay strong. Stay beautiful. Stay awesome. And stay safe.
Just keep going, it’s hard to do but it helps in the long run. I’ve had depression on and off since I was 13 (am now 30), and I know how hard normals things are to do. You feel you can’t do stuff, but if you avoid what is hard for you everything eventually gets worse. I struggled for a while as there is no one who would be significantly affected if I were no longer here. I now have guinea pigs, and I know that they would suffer if were not around.
