Cool matsuri! After having not checked out any of your new videos for the past couple of months I am pleasantly reminded while watching this just how great your channel is. You two are one-of-a-kind and are by far my favorite j-vloggers. I'm really glad that you guys exist and are sharing your experiences with us. Now it's on to the next vid for me!
It's been a year since we were in Japan, so want to visit again!!! If I could live somewhere in the world, it would definitely be Japan, Tokyo or Osaka!
I suggest you download an app called 72 seasons. The Japanese traditionally divided the year into 72 seasons. As you have no doubt become aware, the Japanese are very conscious of the seasons. The app in a very poetic way tells you about each and what to eat in that season. You were in the month where everyone eats saury, which is what you were eating at the matsuri. If you have the app I think you'll find it very gratifying. It is a real insight into what is happening around you.
Just a question. I enjoy watching your videos of your travels and I was wondering what you did for health insurance when you first started out traveling around the world?
Reminds me of Octoberfest in Munich, they grill whole mackerel on sticks over coals. Mackerel Pike is widely eaten in Japan and Korea and known to be a very cheap but it is delicious.
Hi Kyde and Eric :) looking forward to your upcoming content. I do have one question, more like fishing for drama lol. Has there been a time in japan where you heard people talking about you two "foreigners" in a negative way assuming you wouldn't understand Japanese? did you confront or surprise them with your emaculate japanese ? Thanks :D
Kade your hair looks nicer the longer it gets. Weird comment for youtube but my daughter just likes it now. she is making me comment. Did I miss something but I thought Eric wasn't really a fish eater if so it must have been a hell of a fish (i'm not a fish eater either) . All the best to you both you fill in a lot of time for me.
Hi guys, may I please ask you a question? You must think of me as a pain by now. Your channel is one of my favorite RUclips channels because you are down to earth and have no pretensions. I might be getting one more chance to teach in Japan, in Tsu city. I have a question that I wanted to ask you honestly. I love Japanese culture and history, especially the Meiji Restoration, Taisho democracy, etc; and I love dorky stuff like anime and Japanese music like Sekai No Owari; and Japanese movies or movies about Japan like Ikiru or the Richard Chamberlain version of Shogun. I also have an interest in Chinese culture and history, but not nearly as much as I do in Japanese culture. I have been watching videos on the LaoWhy86 channel, and he makes China look really adventurous. Especially because he has more opportunities, to do more, because he can do more because he makes relatively an ALT or Eikaiwai wage, approximately $2500 a month, with a cost of living that is approximately 1/2 of Japan, and free housing and utilities. He goes on awesome adventures on motorcycles, tries awesome and strange new foods, and meets all kinds of nice people. I've been offered jobs in China like this, teaching at SAT prep schools or universities making relatively the same salaries as an Eikaiwa teacher or ALT would make in Japan, with free housing and utilities. I was even offered fun side jobs in China to teach at a Jiu Jitsu school. Haha, I am nothing special, but I guess my major, GPA, and reference looks good to Chinese schools, because I have not got squat for teaching offers in Japan except as an ALT. My question to you is, do you think it is worth teaching in Japan, and give up the better benefits in China, because I like Japanese culture more? Don't get me wrong, I am no Japanese tripster, I always found it weird that people get a certain pompous sense of self-esteem gained from knowing a culture a little better than others, I think people are just people. Also, in your experiences and opinions, is it exciting and adventurous to live in Japan in your point of view? Also, I don't know why but I am having such a hard time getting up the courage to get up and go, what gave you the courage to get up and go?
Heh, man I really don't have much advice as we have never lived in China. From what I can tell people either LOVE or hate China. We were there for a month and I wouldn't go as far to say I hated it, but it wasn't our favorite part of Asia. That said, it sorta depends on what you want from the experience. If you want *adventure* it's harder to come by in Japan than it is in other parts of Asia for sure because of how structured everything is. Also as you mentioned the pay ratio in China is better. From what I understand jobs teaching in China are more plentiful too, as less people are excited to go there and their population is so absurdly high. If you have interest in both why not go to China for a year or two and build up your teaching resume, afterwards if you still want to come to Japan you'll have a nest egg saved up and a stronger resume to look for better jobs in Japan? Just an idea. -E
Thank you very much for your advice, you seem very smart. You are right. I think Japan would be so neat, if I can get a job at an Eikaiwa, because of the steady pay year round. I am already have remorse, even before turning down the job as an ALT, because I know it will be my last chance until next year. Plus, it would be neat, because although I don't really like judo, it would be neat to learn it in Japan, especially Osaka, because how well high level Jiu Jitsu guys have done in Judo in the Olympics, such as Travis Stevens. You are right. I think I'll work in China for a while, and get experience. I got offered a job in a neat part of China, Chengdu, with spicy food, bamboo forests, nice girls, and pandas. And they have one of the best Jiu Jitsu academies in China. And the job teaches 20 hours a week, and pays well with free housing. I was even offered jobs teaching economics or history, with no teaching certificate, but it might be good like you said, to get experience first. I have been showing my dad your videos about McDonalds and fast food and Japan. He really likes them. I really like them too. I like all your guys video, you guys are awesome.
The only thing I am afraid of is if I move to Japan, that I will become an internal tourist. I know people are super friendly, but it seems rare that foreigners become full integrated into the society. Is this a legit fear if I go to Japan or China?
When i thought Kyde dropped the pear slice and catch it with a tooth pick i thought she was using her Jedi powers. LoL. Btw if you two start making shirts i'd be proud to wear one : )
I am so sorry I missed that festival. I was staying in Gotanda, but my flight left on Sunday, September 18. It would have been cool to run into you guys. My idea for T-shirts is Breakfast for Breakfast. Can't help you with the drawing. Maybe my daughter could. She's the artist.
Oh, you answered my question! Sweet! I was beginning to suspect it had just slipped through the cracks. Lol Also, Kudos for saying my last name correctly! It seems simple enough, but it's mind boggling just how many people actually mess that up. lol As for your answers, those both sound pretty amazing. I've read a few articles and blogs about life in Sweden being really, really nice on all fronts if you can actually get a job out there and find a place to live. The work culture especially seems way more relaxed and chilled compared to Japan and America for sure, so you'd probably get a ton of chances to travel all around the EU without many problems. And here's another question for you specifically Eric, I've noticed over the years you specifically use one song in particular in all your edits for your "travel/down time" as I call it. "Queen of Darkness" I think it was(Been a while since I actually checked your other channel lol). I was wondering if you chose to use just that 1 song to make all your videos a bit more cohesive, as in they all feel connected and have a steady progression... Or if it is just more simple to edit with the 1 song? I know it's a bit of a random question, but as an editor/filmer myself it really interests me. ^^
+SonnyViceR We'd love to go there, problem is the only time we can get free for long trips is during the winter and something tells me that's more of a "summertime" place hahaha. -E
Excellent point :D Yeah I'd say as far as winter locations (with snowy landscapes) go, Europe and North America are far more attractive than North/East Asia.
Eric- way to go on the zipper technique! I'll try that next time I eat a fish 😊 and for the record, I hate fishy fish too😜 Kyde- Totally Random but I like your hair growing out longer, you look so pretty🌺 As far as the Sweden thing, I'll check with my Great Uncle who was The Mayor of Karlstad Sweden back in the 90"s🤓 Him and my Aunt are both professors now at the University. Do either of you have bachelors degrees? I couldn't remember. So I'll check on the visa, employment and apartment thing. Give me some time, Sten and Agnita usually take awhile to communicate back due to their busy schedules. Do you guys have a P.O. Box if people want to send you stuff? Your biggest Fan 💜
Kyde and Eric i don't remember what her degree is in? I know Sweden it quite a bit more expensive these days... I'll contact my Uncle Sten and see what he says😊
I had this fish outside of Nakano Broadway for 700 yen Lunch set. I went to Nakano after watching your old video, it has changed seriously. Mandarake owns basically 3/4 of the stores now..
Yeah the very top floor #4? is the Mandarake online office and customer service. #3 floor had the processing center for the 2nd hand items they buy, it's like a weird open access tour of how they operate. This was just Sept 2016 too.
Hi guys, me and my husband love to watch your videos. Our question concerns your future. Do you plan to have kids and if you do, where would you like to raise them?
Kyde and Eric Oh no, but I want to so bad! In general I want to try a persimmon, since I've never had one. Same goes for Japanese pumpkin. I reaalllly wanna try kabocha.
Kyde and Eric I actually went out that night and got one. Weird thing as I was eating I gave both my dogs a piece as I was eating it, they both reacted similarly. My first dog acted like she was going to throw up for about 10 seconds, then my second dog acted bizzare for around 5 minutes and finally threw up the piece of fruit I fed him.
DID anyone notice the man giving the Finger to the camera at 2:08?? When she said japanese people are good at eating fish etc. the man and his wife look up, his wife laughs and he low key gives the finger!!
They've addressed that before. I don't recall Exactly what they've said, but I think it has to do with sound and giving privacy to other people (as in trying not to film strangers) when they're out in public.. something like that
As mentioned by keandric 2 there are a few reasons. Often it's due to just literally being close to each other (in this video we were in a pretty tight area) and also making sure our voices are picked up properly by the camera's onboard mic. -E
Hmmm more Questions is what you need? How about this one: Do people on the street flirt with you a lot during your time in Japan? I noticed that during my stay there it happened to me a few times, even though I'm really not that good looking, it seemed there was a huge foreigner "bonus"....even while I was sitting right next to my wife, ring on finger and everything...
Na trust me I'm not, which is why I was so confused when it happened. Like I said, I think it must have been huge foreigner bonus or something....or maybe blond/blue eye exotic bonus? Still my question stands :-P
Sanma is one of the best fishes in Japan!!
True!
"He's fucking wrong."
Kyde is my hero.
OMG yes I literally bursted into laughter when heard this from her mouth :D
Hahahah. She's a elegant gal. -E
It could have been a picture of your evil twins and that was why it freaked you out!
I love the little talks you guys do at the end of your videos!
Yay!
Kyde reminds me so much of my mum. I watch your videos when I get really homesick.
Well, neat! Is your mom as awesome as Kyde? -E
Kyde and Eric I believe so.
Thanks so much! Such kind words! -E
Do you think your pallets have changed since living in Japan? For instance, sweets in the US vs sweets in Japan.
I hope you said "so long and thanks for all the fish" when you left
Kyde, let us see the drawing and maybe we can made something inspired by it and make a "contest"!
Hahahah, I'll see if she has it! -E
The t-shirt contest is a great idea! I'm sure there are some designers within the the K + E fanbase who would love to help out!
My fav September here in oz!!! It's spring guys!!!!!!
Haha, we love September too! -E
Everyone has conflicts. Living in such a small space. Where do you go or do when they happen, and how do you resolve them.
Kyde and Eric on a motorbike would be great on a tee shirt. I'd buy one!
Good idea! -E
It's been a year since we were in Japan, so want to visit again!!! If I could live somewhere in the world, it would definitely be Japan, Tokyo or Osaka!
Hope you get a chance to visit again sometime! -E
such a good idea with the carabiner/shopping bag shoulder strap
Haha, she will be so happy someone noticed! -E
I suggest you download an app called 72 seasons. The Japanese traditionally divided the year into 72 seasons. As you have no doubt become aware, the Japanese are very conscious of the seasons. Smoked sanma so oishiii!!!!!
Just a question. I enjoy watching your videos of your travels and I was wondering what you did for health insurance when you first started out traveling around the world?
+kofeluver222 We crossed our fingers. -E
would you guys ever go back to Myanmar and of all the places you have been to witch ones would you go back to
I want to go back to Myanmar in the future to see how much it has changed. We'd go back to almost everywhere we have been, actually! -E
wow...almost 40k subscribers...grats
Oh wow, neat. Thanks! -E
Reminds me of Octoberfest in Munich, they grill whole mackerel on sticks over coals. Mackerel Pike is widely eaten in Japan and Korea and known to be a very cheap but it is delicious.
Oh neat! -E
Have you ever been near the F1 Suzuka circuit?
No, but it would be awesome to go to a race sometime! -E
Maybe you guys could sell the sound of the rain in the background.
And call it "The Soothing Rainfall Of Japan."
Hahaha, on the internet there is a market for *everything*. -E
Hi Kyde and Eric :) looking forward to your upcoming content. I do have one question, more like fishing for drama lol. If you were trapped on a desert island and could only bring one type of food and one type of drink, what would you bring?
I love this question. Added to our list!

I am OK with fish that isn't fishy. I'll pass your compliment about her hair to Kyde. I'm loving it too! -E
I have a question!
Eric you have quite a few tattoos, any plans on getting some more? Also Kyde do you have any or plan on getting any?
Haha, I think about it sometimes, but then I realize for the price I could go on a trip instead! -E

It's good to just be what you are. I haven't lived in China, but I doubt you will escape being a white person in an Asian country there either. -E
This reminds me of Douglas Adams: "Thanks for all the fish!"
That is genius. I'm gonna get some goggles for the campfire next time!
Good plan! -E
T-Shirt idea, have a simple shirt that has 'SlowBot' written on the front!
Written very slowly. -E
I think a shirt with a picture of both of you on it with you standintg side by side would be a good seller.
We tried something similar and got freaked out by drawings of ourselves on a shirt. Hahahahaha. -E
Ya'll have eaten a lot of local foods when you're out traveling. Is there any specific food that you especially remember and would eat again?
One time we had a slow-roasted goat in Oman. I dream about it all the time. -E
I know the story of how you two met but who pursued the relationship? Did you both have a crush on each other and just decided to give it a go?
Hahahaha, good question. I don't know! I'll ask Kyde! -E
@@kydeanderic xD
When i thought Kyde dropped the pear slice and catch it with a tooth pick i thought she was using her Jedi powers. LoL. Btw if you two start making shirts i'd be proud to wear one : )

I just love that song. Hahahahahahhaa. -E
lmao Honestly, perfectly reasonable answer. hahaha It's seriously grown on me over the years.
I would pay for your tickets and transportation to Tokyo Disneysea if you guys would do a video on it.
We hope we get a chance to hit it up sometime soon! Really looking forward to it! -E
that was cool the fish was big looks good and pear as well
Yea!
Fuzzy Nubbins T-shirts!! I would buy one. :)
Get out of my head. I was just about to post that.
I came here to say the same!
Oh good idea! Me too! -E
What did you guys study at university?
Also have student loans ever held you down from traveling?
Kyde studied psychology. I don't have a degree. We made sure our debt was all taken care of before travelling. -E
So jealous...I love the rain!
Do you guys keep videos unlisted until its max quality :D?
We post them a few days early for our Patreon supporters. -E
i..JUST wrote that comment...the speed :O

Haha, I'm on the ball! Thanks, glad you are still with us! -E
Is Mongolia a country you've ever looked at visiting?
+SonnyViceR We'd love to go there, problem is the only time we can get free for long trips is during the winter and something tells me that's more of a "summertime" place hahaha. -E

what type of bag did you use the tano clip on? it's at 7:49 thanks
She just a felt bag she carries all the time in case more storage is needed. -E
Eric- way to go on the zipper technique! I'll try that next time I eat a fish 😊 and for the record, I hate fishy fish too😜
Kyde- Totally Random but I like your hair growing out longer, you look so pretty🌺
As far as the Sweden thing, I'll check with my Great Uncle who was The Mayor of Karlstad Sweden back in the 90"s🤓 Him and my Aunt are both professors now at the University. Do either of you have bachelors degrees? I couldn't remember. So I'll check on the visa, employment and apartment thing. Do you guys have a P.O. Box if people want to send you stuff?
Your biggest Fan
💜
Kyde has a degree, I do not. If you hear anything it'd be neat to hear about! Sorry, we don't have a PO box. -E
Kyde and Eric i don't remember what her degree is in? I know Sweden it quite a bit more expensive these days... I'll contact my Uncle Sten and see what he says😊
It's in Psychology, but at this point she has more experience in editing, proofreading and copywriting. -E
"He's fucking wrong!" - Kyde 2016
Daaaaaamn! Shots fired! lol
Haha -E
o my there's 3 day old comments on here but its only just arrived on my time line ???
One of the perks of being a Patreon supporter is to get early access to videos :)
love Kyde's smile :-D
not Eric's ;-)
JK your beard is cool too!
Hahaha.
I had this fish outside of Nakano Broadway for 700 yen Lunch set.
I went to Nakano after watching your old video, it has changed seriously. Mandarake owns basically 3/4 of the stores now..
Really?! We didn't shoot that very long ago! I need to swing back buy and see it again. -E
Hahahaha, we have no idea about any of that. Do we have time for kids? We dunno. -E
Haha! We should definitely start saying 'lick the fish' instead of 'seize the day' !!
Hahahah
I live in Arizona, and we buy nashi year round here. It's in the local supermarket lol. But, they are seriously the most delicious fruit in the world.
Have you had kaki? -E
Kyde and Eric Oh no, but I want to so bad! In general I want to try a persimmon, since I've never had one. Same goes for Japanese pumpkin. I reaalllly wanna try kabocha.
Sanma fish.... yummy
"I Survived the Nebuta festival" T-shirts?? :P
Hahaha. "I slept on fingerband bench"
LOL do a go fund me ... place a placard naming that bench :)
Hahahah
what about the cat from the curtains for a shirt
Hhahaha, good idea! -E
Plz try to go to Russia. I would love to see a video of you there coz I've never found a good one out there but it seems like a fascinating country
I went there when I was 17! It was awesome. But I didn't have a camera with me, hahahaha. -E
Makes me hungry just looking at it
2 shirts id buy, BLADOW and AMEEZING
Haha
did the guy behind you flip you off? 2:09
Hahaha, nah, he was flipping you off. -E
Such a big waiting gap between fish #3599 and #3600; unless Eric waited longer than needed.
+engineer32 Haha, the fish weren't numbered in order, just the tickets. -E
I always called those apple pears. My supermarket carries them but they're like 3 dollars a piece, I think I have to get one today.
Yea, get one! They are great if they are in season. -E
Yea, hhahahahahha, maybe! -E
If u don't feel safe or your unhappy get away, u can do it!! 👍🏾
nashi pears are the best!
For real! -E
Kyde, you really miss Emma, don't you?
Emma and Tommy are the best!
We all know you just pretend to like the Swedes because they gave you guys that ballin' microwave.
you had better eat sanma before it is getting colder.
you guys film so close to each other's faces....
They've addressed that before. I don't recall Exactly what they've said, but I think it has to do with sound and giving privacy to other people (as in trying not to film strangers) when they're out in public.. something like that
oooh I see, thanks for the explanation!
Redreed you're welcome :)
As mentioned by keandric 2 there are a few reasons. Often it's due to just literally being close to each other (in this video we were in a pretty tight area) and also making sure our voices are picked up properly by the camera's onboard mic. -E
There's one thing about the Japanese, they see and know Nintendo
careful with those pears, they can be quite the laxative if you eat one too many :)
Have a contest for the more artistic fans to come up with the best ideas or t-shirt art. Offer some kind of reward.
We might do something like that in the future! -E
a t-shirt where you two look like anime various characters who are the main male and female characters.
Who is which? -E
Just pick one where the main characters end up together and those are you. Tomoya & Nagisa from Clannad maybe
Hold ur head up
favorite character Rick or Morty? haha
Snuffles / snowball! -E
早く食えよ🎵
セッカク焼きたてなのに

i dont like fish, so i give it to my cat ....
Lucky cat! -E
Hmmm more Questions is what you need? How about this one:
Do people on the street flirt with you a lot during your time in Japan? I noticed that during my stay there it happened to me a few times, even though I'm really not that good looking, it seemed there was a huge foreigner "bonus"....even while I was sitting right next to my wife, ring on finger and everything...
Na trust me I'm not, which is why I was so confused when it happened. Like I said, I think it must have been huge foreigner bonus or something....or maybe blond/blue eye exotic bonus? Still my question stands :-P
