Old Hippie IV Bellamy Brothers (aka OH-III beta 5.0014.2013) Lyrics by JCooper

- So after I did OH-III (some folks requested a re-make) I got to thinking, why not do an Old Hippie IV (well, beta III anyways) but have it reflect more of my lifes ups, downs, losses and wishes etc., so that's what this is, it's more personnel. I didn't spend lots of time and the lyrics weren't refined, meaning I only spent a few minutes on it before I called it a night. Nothing special, just a 'what if' type thing.... I'll post lyrics in case someone's interested:
Well he made it to his sixtys, Retirements knocking at his door.
He sits reflecting on his lifestyle, and the days he's seen before.
He remembers that ole hot rod, he took his first date in.
and that new fangled 8 track, that made him such a hit.
He get's out there to the cars shows, wishin' he had one back again.
-/
Well he still plays the guitar, though he'll never be a hit.
but to his dogs, fred and snoopy, he's on top of their list.
Ya he still dreams of studios, and undiscovered stars,
if only for a minute, it may help to heal some scars.
He thinks of his youth sometimes, and did he leave a mark.
== Chorus ==
He's an old hippie, life has lost some of it's charm
been replaced by pills and pain, and an empty broken heart.
he's an old hippie, and\but he still does believe
when the race is run he'll see the son, in that golden --- city.
-/
Well he thinks back to the nineties, thought good times would never end.
Then they sent his boy to the mideast, on a trip that never ends
Now he waves the flag at his home, people protest everyday
Say they find it offensive, the flag of the U.S.A.
He can't believe this kind of freedom, is why his boy is in that grave.
/== Chorus ==/
Well he stays at home a lot now, few reasons to go out.
Though his health is slowly slippin, in his mind he's joggin' round.
'Cause he can't afford the gas now, or the mortgage on his home.
He sees his country slippin, it's gone out of control.
It's just a matter of time now, that we may be shown the door.
/== Chorus ==/
Well he's an old hippie, life has lost some of it's charm
been replaced by pills and pain, and an empty broken heart
he's an old hippie, but he still does believe
when the race is run he'll see the son, in that golden --- city.
Ya he still believes in the Bible, and that Jesus, died to set him free....
I was born in 1962 and turned 62 July 2024.ear buds in blasting that music and locked the world outside. The late 70s 80'S 90's were the best many great memories. Back when things made sense. Still here September 2024!
mine was july 64 brother was July 62 hes gone moe but see you in '34. and I wont have changed
Thanks. I'm 65 now and that touches something inside most things don't these days.
Just found this newest version. Born in '51, Became a "hippy" after High School, went in to the service in '74. Always been a contrary cuss, smart enough to know I wasn't too stupid, but dumb enough not to know I wasn't all that smart!!! As I near the exit ramp I thank God for the life He has given me, but most of all for my family, the wife, the kids, the grandkids, they justify my existence!!
73 - 77
God bless
Born 56 also served 73-77. Joined as soon as turn 17
I love all 4 of these songs I'm 75 going on 76 this year, I am a nam vet and these songs bring back some really good memory's and a few bad ones too.
Thank you for your service. I know many were never welcomed home, its very sad, its hard to even imagine for those who never faced that experience.
Welcome Home if our paths didn't cross and I haven't already told you. Thank you for my freedom to safely sleep at night or get into my car without fear. I understand, like many Americans, we owe that peace of mind to God and you guys. Know that you are still appreciated by us.✌️💕🇺🇸
God bless you sir
WELCOME HOME
thanks for serving....canada
I'LL BE 70 IN JULY AND THE 60s MUSIC N MEMMORIES ARE STILL IN MY HEAD
🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Yeah, i served during Vietnam and these songs are relatable to us all. Where has the time gone? I am almost 70. Just waiting for the reaper!
Welcome home
For those of you who don't get it, well, you never will so just move on. For those of us who get it we understand and appreciate this song.
I'm in my early 30's but after growing up around country music, and the original Old Hippy, then the sequal and Old Hippy 3, this one totally makes sense.
I don't understand what all happened in Vietnam but those who were there and returned home were not treated well at all, its very sad. There are several Vietnam veterans in town where I live, every time I see one (only way I recognize they were in Vietnam is a few wear Vietnam Veteran Hats) I always stop, shake their hands and thank them.
To those that never made it home RIP, to those who made it home and have passed on RIP.
what is a Vietnam Veteran Hat
JT422B A baseball cap that says Vietnam Veteran on it.
LMAO!
none of us were treated with the respect we EARNED no one gave it to us.
Today my dad would have been 86! Happy Birthday "Old Hippy!" I miss you!
Goes to the heart and soul, where old fogies like us can relate.
AWESOME!!! All 4 of the Old Hippie song tell a little part of my life as it does for a lot of people.

41, Still listen to this almost everyday
Bless y’all
Great like all the old hippie songs hits way to close to home. Thank for posting this and great job doing it. peace brother.
I’m turning 40 and this song sort of reflects me right now. I listened to the other ones and those don’t relate to this 40 year old man that much as this song does as this time in my life. Why do I have to be so damn old?
Great! Been waiting for the 4th version!
Great job. A fan of the 3 and your 4th was awesome. Ty sir
My dad served in the Air Force during the Korean war. He left this world in 2005 at age 75 and he was an Old Hippie!
Salute
I'm 74 and carry the hippie label to this day. This version of the original reflects a down and disheartening existence of the song writer. I walked away from organized religion in '69. still do the occasional pipe-full of good pot, enjoy a couple cold beers when my Fla. location gets a bit too hot. My son went to desert storm and though not physically wounded, a part of him still hangs there. My existence is full of information gathering, staying connected with my children, grand children, and recently three great grand children. This 'old hippie' is free in mind body and spirit. Once upon a time is decades ago and forever after is right around the corner. I'm fine with that!
robert bennie, God bless you, brother.
What about your soul, sir? You, we, I will all die. Organized religion, you walked away from, had no power of its self to save anyting. Jesus Christ died for for our sins. We're forgiven but HIS Righteous Blood. Why, turn down the greatest gift of all mankind? To lose your soul through all eternity? Has nothing to do with being a hippie or not.
Born again. Leave it alone. What works for you is personal.
@@terrybois5945 amen, brother. Does it really matter what religous sect you belong to? The Father, or your Higher Power, looks at the context of your soul, and the morals and values you possess, more importantly, how you incorporate them in your daily life, to make a difference in others lives. Nobody, really knows what happens to you when you pass on. But if the primary reason or purpose of this existence is to prominently love, help others along their journey, and practice these principles in everyday affairs, the you are fullfilling the inner drive that motivates you and keeps you going- the inner desire to love and be loved and accepted for who you are in this insane world. People seek all kinds of reasons to satisfy this desire. Alcohol, drugs, sex, power, the love of money, etc are things that are focused on to try and intensify the need for love, inner peace, and acceptance, but most are self destructive and tends to lead, to diappointment, frustration, and feelings or hoplessness when not practiced with discipline and control. Therefore, seek things that are not seen, rather than concrete things that are only fleeting and temporary. The enlightened ones refer to these as the fruits of the spirit, and will leave you content and fullfilled, rather than empty and shallow.Love, kindness, compassion, and mercy, are traits that are strictly not observed by any paricular denomination, rather it is goals of many groups to attain this contentment, happiness, and inner peace that weALL seek!!
@@gregorydelehanty2875 Sorry to say not true, There is only one way, that's thru Jesus, God's rules not mine.

Never gets old love it
friend, i just found your video. it reminds me of my close friend who i buried a few years ago. i always associated the old hippie songs with Tom. This one hit me hard because we laid him to rest, not too long after his wife passed away. He was an ol c130 load master. What makes it so much worse is his son was a marine, who had his own hard times, especially after we laid his dad to rest, right after we buried his mom. Zach ended up taking his own life, and if only there was something we could have done. i dont know what we could have done different, but it haunts me every day.
I really like this a lot! Many thanks!
"He turned 63 last Tuesday, a stent in a body part.
When he has indigestion, he prays its just a fart..."
Great stuff! Thanks so much.
Well done sir

Well done, Sir! Just as it should have been done! This son has taken on its own life. 5 times, now! I can't think of too many others, have gone that far....... this long. I think, only Travis Tritt(?) tried, in the early '90's. BUT! He wanted that. ( no insult meant. Just saying...... ) Please, don't give up. You're great!

To Those Below: The past is gone and can never be replaced nor scars be healed, so we move on to the next lottery that was set in motion long ago. My draft number was in the low 20s back then, so I enlisted to at least give myself a small choice in what I did there. Those that got left behind as POWs are ones I think of now. "Kiss The Boys Goodbye" is fact, I knew one of the team members that went in to check. Keep in mind, there has never been a war that we haven't had POWs, when's the last time you heard about that in the NEWS these days.
Thank you for your service and welcome home soldier!
My dad served with 329th TC. After Vietnam he was on Okinawa where we watched the bombers heading yo Vietnam.
I'm 72 and still sporting the beard and long hair
Amen brother
Awesome
wow awsome wow. ty for sharing
Started being a hippie 4 years ago. Sick of military haircuts. Cost of a haircut gone through the roof. Weed legal now, but I feel I don't need it.
We are all old hippies
Wonder if they'll be an old hippie funeral or an Old hippie goodbye
Kids of the baby boom.
Shit ...I made to my seventies but I sure have some great memories of the sixties. ....such as the electric kool aide acid test . If could I would go back and do the same Damm again. No regrets .
It is said that the hippie movement died out. But, some just became more integrated into society.
I made it to my 60's
非常喜欢美国乡村音乐
Juan Yang, I live near Nashville and have been listening to it since I was a
small child and still love the old country music, but not the stuff they are singing
for teeny bopper's today.. Welcome aboard.. Welcome to this land.
我从小就非常喜欢乡村音乐在我们国家听乡村音乐的人很少我就是其中之一
What can I say? Awesome 😎
Love it! Where can I buy a copy?
My life in a nutshell!!!😞
That was wonderful have you had any contact with the bellamy brothers about the song thank you so much
Sing it but,,,just doesn't do it for me! Peace to Ya' man!!!! Peace!
I do.
AND A JOINT RIGHT
Too depressing 😟
Tremendous! Love your fourth version! Are you on instagram ? :)
I'm a new hippie--at least I currently look like one, complete with long dirty hair on top of my head, odor of 3 days of no shower, untrimmed facial hair, and "tightly whiteys" that are no longer tight, nor all that white. But I also vote Republican more than the "OLD hippies" do, (or HAVE done), and I never took Marx's Communist Manifesto all that seriously. And since I'm OVER 30, I don't trust anyone UNDER 30. Also, unlike Timothy Leary, my only drug is Seroquel "to tune out" (and maybe Viagra to "turn on" ) and I "drop out" by spending a lot of time in "my mother's basement...Currently re-watching AMC's Madmen on DVD.
Sung with no auto-tune...I assume?
My brother was a viet nam vetqqqqqqqqq
Who is this
Who is this singing? Does anyone know?
Me, thanks for watching. I don't post much these days, age and health, maybe I will again though.
