I must say that it’s quite impressive how a car with an interior from 2012 still works today. Sure some bits are outdated but still fresh and works great
Is the size of the glovebox really that big of a deal in Europe? I don't think I've ever stored anything in mine, other than the owners manual and insurance papers.
We don’t carry insurance papers in Europe, but the majority of cars have air conditioned glove boxes so it’s nice having a large glove box to store drinks or food for a longer journey. I always have a couple of bottles or cans in the glove box in case I need a drink on a motorway.
Really happy with mine. The ride is amazing and heated seats are a big plus. I own the d2 2.0 and the power is adequate. Wanted something that was practical and could handle light off roading. Almost bought a Qashqai but really glad I waited. The Volvo interior is on another level. My d2 is at 45000 miles and runs like a new car. Feels solid.
bought one a few months ago. Child seat at the back works without any problems...everything just works. The computer dashboard is extremely good and the infotaiment system is easy to use if a little outdated.
Very happy with my v40cc d2 here in Netherlands. The cup holder - handbrake problem at 6:08 does not exist here. It applies only to right hand drive versions - uk, south Africa, India etc.. Volvo did not redesign the position of the handbrakes for right hand drive models.
How is this old car. LED head lights, 18" wheels, Paddle shift, BIS, premium interiors and more. I have driven Merc GLA, and I liked V40 CC 2018 over GLA.
Infotainment system isn't as bad as you say to use: you can also control it via the controls on the steering wheel (right-hand side) or, for some commands, by voice. Either way less distracting than touch-based systems. Something most reviewers seem to miss.
I got a Skoda Octavia and a Alfa Romeo Mito before my V40 Rdesign. Also drove a Mercedes ML 320, and the V40 is really a good value for comfort and driving. And yes practicality could be better, but I never needed anything else until now.
You forgot to mention a standard city safety system and 98 points in EURONCAP tests! I think that using buttons is much safer than tablet during a drive. Tablet distracts too much. But unfortunately, are much cheaper for manufacturers than properly engineered buttons!
I love numeric buttons on the central console. It's so much easier to type in phone numbers, rather than having to fiddle with a rotary dial on something like BMW's iDrive.
Driven the Merc A180 for over 3 months back um 2018, owned more than 3 an Audi A3 (1.8T, 1.9tdi, 2.0 T Sline) being an audi fannatic i just recently bought the the Volvo 1.6 T4 and nothing to complaint about apart from the Geartronic issues that Ford Focus has. Confy, practicality, fun to drive, looks way better than any other on its class, performance is there when you need. Very glad with this new especially after I had the 2009 C30. 🥳🥳🥳🥳😇😇😃😃
It's interesting to see the car with the wheel on the right(I am from China, and driver is on the left) my girlfriend just got this car, not the exact model though, she s got the t3. the ride tends do get bumpy when the road condition is not ideal. on highway though, this little car is way more capable than what i have expected. I honestly thought the 150 hp engine would be wimpy, but when I stepped on the gas, the turbo engine did not hesitate to supply me with more than ample power. And my girlfriend loves those dial buttons, she has the propensity to memorize others' number and finds it handy. all in all, a fabulously designed small car packed with an awesome engine.
I've owned one for just over a year. Lovely car. Visibility is reduced, was a bit annoying and took a while to get used to, but it's just for safety purposes. This car is a tank. I had the D2 model manual, and it was a lovely, safe car. Highly recommended for your wife or daughter for example.
I've driven a v40 cross country and it honestly isn't that bad, the infotainment system works quite well and the car doesn't feel sluggish, i have to agree that the boot space is not that great though.
Just purchased my 2014 D2 1.6 cross country coming from a 14 plate focus ecoboooom. Always had a soft spot for Volvos so thought I would go for this. Love it to bits, only downside is the spec in mine is a little thin. No sat nav, blis, rear camera or internet button. I thought I’d regret going for the 1.6 D for lack of power but I can’t fault it, really pokey if needed also excellent mpg. Got mine in Sept 2023 with only 49k miles & complete full s/history with it. Will need to look at belt change soon though. More than happy otherwise.
Do you feel like the V40 CC is considerably more unresponsive/unfun than the Focus? Thinking of getting one, but I like my hatchbacks nimble (I really like how the Focus drives)
The gearbox should not be that slow in normal "D" mode. I have the 8-speed mated to our v40 T5 and I feel that the "D" mode is veeery responsive and fun, sport is just annoying because it just hold the RPMs too high for driving with any traffic. Sure if you're out on a country road and you're all alone the sport is just fine, but the car doesn't really shine on those roads anyways.
I don't think it's appropriate compare it to other crossover because it's basically just a hatchback, it's like comparing the Vauxhall Adam Rocks with an Audi Q2 because it has some beefy body cladding. The only problems I have with my v40 is that the front passenger seat has really awkward footwells so it's a little uncomfortable, the rear windows and the cupholders in the front. I also think the infotainment is good however a little bit confusing, I think it's a little bit like a pretty release demo version of Idrive but it definitely not low Def in my opinion
Done lots of long drives in a v40cc D3, plenty of punch and on longer journeys I've managed around 70 mpg average, average in city around 50 mpg, manual gearbox though
I had a 2009 Volvo S40 and the interior was pretty much exactly the same , we are now 10 years on! I really liked my S40 but the interior was abit boring
Just got one of these on loan while mine's being serviced. I was amazed how little headroom there is in it. I'm 5 11" and even with the seat fully down, my head is touching the roof. Also, my S40's nav can be controlled by buttons on the back of the steering wheel. It's brilliant. I don't know why Volvo stopped that.
Sort of considering the T4 AWD model of this as I'm really fed up with getting stuck in the snow, but don't want nor need a large car. Still not convinced by the 2008-style black and white screen, infotainment etc. I drive a 2012 V60 at work and really don't like it, I had hoped this would be better.
Tell me Mat what is this fetish regarding water bottles that every car reviewer has? Followed by the equally strange obsession with cup holders. I've never found the need to store plastic water bottle or to have drinks slopping around the cabin. It seems that a car can be the most perfect combination of engine, body and price and be totally rubbish if a plastic bottle doesn't fit in the door.
BaronSilver Baron I’m not an auto geek, but I do like cars. From my experience, these things matter if you spent quite a bit of time driving, or you if you had dogs/children, which I do. It wouldn’t be part of my cons for not getting particular car, but it would annoy me.
I don't know what is like where you live, but at least in Brazil is an - awful - matter of taste. Same trend that boosted crossovers. It's been more than a decade that we've got entry-level cars tagged as "Cross" without 80% of what this V40 offers! But we're not any reference, we don't know how to buy cars and therefore have a lot of shitty vehicles.
Interesting regarding mileage. I just drove my T4 about 800km/500 miles for 5.6l/100km, or 50 mpg. A lot of cruise control and highway driving at an average speed of 106km/h, or just under 66mph.
I have a V40 D4 (not CC though) and 1 key note, V40’s(or any other Volvo)’s steering feel differs substantially based on steering weight setting. Based on Mat’s reaction I suspect the test car was in lightest setting. Light mode is just awful, it’s like stirring cornstarch slurry. Middle setting is the best you get quite a lot of feel and response back and well weighted steering, also sport mode sharpens the steering response. Heavy mode feels like driving with broken power steering.
@@Mamsaturatdevoi I’d say it’s more on a fun side, the sharpness and the playfulness of Ford Focus platform does shine through, that been said it is not specifically tuned to be a sporty car, that’s all from the architecture it’s based on. It’s tuned primarily to be more of a comfortable cruiser, it’s just when you ask it to be sporty it’s just does without a sweat.
