1983: Went into a music store to inquire about effects pedals. “What does the ‘Tube Screamer’ do?” I ask. “Oh, that doesn’t do much of anything. Don’t bother with one of those.” says the salesman. True story.
I had the exact opposite. Lol Went in looking for a "metal" distortion pedal. The guy said, "naw man, just slam the front of your amps distortion with one of these babies!" Handed me a ts9 and changed my thinking on gear forever.
The Boss SD-1 is basically the result of Boss looking at what Ibanez/Maxon did with their OD-1 circuit to make the Tubescreamer and smacking their heads for not thinking of it first. I love mine and will likely be buried with it.
From what I understand the SD1 is asymmetrical clipping vs the symmetrical clipping of most TS type pedals. But that difference is what brings out the different harmonics.
I’m in love with my Digitech CM-2 Tube Overdrive. It does a great job on amps that have a nice distortion but need a bit of help. It’s nice on an amp like a Blackstar that really doesn’t need help in the gain dept, but linking your solo notes together tightly, without changing your tone
Josh from JHS pedals A/B'd it with a japan black label vintage tue screamer and said they sound identical. I have one and it's one of my favourite pedals.
Hey fluff! I loved the video! You should do this for more fx pedal types, ie, "my 5 favorite inexpensive fuzz pedals" and so on. Distortion, fuzz, modulation, delay, reverb, etc.. I vote making this a new series kind of like your "cheapest blank on blank" series
Can’t go wrong with the SD-1 or the Behringer TO800, both are phenomenal pedals. Mosky makes some killer pedals too. I just picked up the Golden Horse (Klon clone) and the Blue Delay (Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay clone) and they’re amazing.
I bought the Cuvave pedal based on this video. It does not sound good. Instead of tightening things up like an OD is supposed to, it actually makes the gain structure of the amp sound loose and flubby. Also, the pedal is so dark-sounding you have to max out the tone-control to get something even approaching usable, and even then it sounds pretty dismal. Save your money.
Hmm I am missing the DigiTech Bad Monkey in this list. Nothing like boosting my mk120 channel RedBear tube amplifier with it to create a nasty old school death metal sound.
You should do a video where you upgrade the Behringer TO800 I know it would be more or less just you getting/making a custom metal housing but I'd still be really interested in that video
True, the jacks are the problem. They are fused into the pcb and into the housing. It's a massive pain in the ass to exchange them for normal screw down jacks.
I have the behringer one (and a few more of their pedals). Only complain is the power jack is on the side so you can't get the pedal board as tight as you can with other pedals.
hello ! i have a favorite overdrive pedal too ,it's china copy of tubes creamer ,brand : Demon Tube screamer ,it's a very affordable pedal (24 € on wish ) and the case is metal and 3 knob for classic :drive level tone and one switch to.... select the type of tube screamer sound 2 positions : 1 -TS9 2-TS808 , i recommanded to you for testing ,for sure you live it ! take care .thanks for your video.
Biyang ToneFancier OD-7 for fifty bucks is worth a look. Has Tube Screamer built in plus two other modes(bright and Warm). Outstanding as a boost and has a great overdrive tone as well.
When I was 12 I got my first electric guitar. My best friend also did and we jammed at my place right after. I got a dean Markley amp and he had a behringer and honestly right out the box that amp sounded worlds better than mine
Whoa! I am wondering if you were surprised by all of the comments about your Bucee's t-shirt? That place is a Texas legend just like Blue Bell ice cream. Love all your videos.
Hey Fluff can you check out the Valeton Tube Engine overdrive? It's basically a tubescreamer clone but with 2 way EQ and for dirt cheap, got mine brand new for 29€ in Germany. So far i have been very impressed and since you have to possibilities to check it out against multiple versions of the original I'd value your opinion. Thanks and have a good one! Stay safe, stay healthy and mostly stay at home haha 💪
Great video… I really dug the tones, mainly with the boss and Cuvave… may i ask you what other gear/settings are you using? Thanks and congrats for that awesome review.
Do it... it’s good. They even have the same Mosky Obsessive pedal that actually has Fulltone OCD printed on it and looks exactly like the original - a true clone in every sense (not sure how they get away with it, but it’s the same pedal).
I have the behringer pedal, and I love it, but I just discovered that my Ibanez TS-9 bass pedal sounds incredible through my amp. Plus it can be a bass boost, since mine is kind of lacking in the low end.
Cool video! Definitely should have included the TC Mojo Mojo and or the TC Dark Matter! IMO of course...and yes...a fan of TC products for killer tone for the money...in no way endorsed by them. 😎🎸🤘🐦
What did you run these ODs into? Could you do the same video through the Rockerverb MKIII? Or basically a video on which pedals work in front of a Rockerverb MKIII?
Recent visit to "Tay-hoss" for a Buc-ee shirt? Please continue to not highlight Digitech ODs so they can stay relatively low cost... I have 2 Bad Monkeys and I'm always using at least one of them.
Cool demo, I think knocking Behringer for the plastic housing is sort of disingenuous. No they won’t most likely hold up as well as a metal enclosure, but unless you are pounding on them with a sledge hammer, they will hold up ok. I have a few of their pedals and for plastic, they are pretty heavy duty. But hey, keep dumping hundreds of dollars into pedals that don’t sound significantly better, I’ll keep buying Behringers for a quarter of the price. 😂😂😂🤘🤘🤘
Totally agree. I've had the Behringer TO800 on my board for about 6 years, gigging, recording, everything. And not once have I worried about it breaking or anything like that. They're built pretty sturdy to be plastic, but even then, it wouldn't be difficult at all to rehouse it.
Soo... I did not expect coming here thinkin about trimming the hair on my balls... Its like a big AD for Manscaped man.. Came here for the overdrives..

Whoa!
*collective gasp*
Probably the same guy who invested all his savings into typewriters.
🤣
I had the exact opposite. Lol

I see no love for the Digitech Bad Monkey, I have it and it's awesome imho. Bonus points for metal construction AND low price
Not low price any more champ
Definitely one of the greatest of all time....I wish DigiTech would re-realease it for sure
Definitely my favorite OD of all time...I have it on my board for over a decade!
Buc-ee’s FTW ! Someone’s been to gas station heaven lol
Yes!!!
"Inexpensive overdrive #3 is the Manscaped Tubeshaper 3.0!"
I feel weird for admitting that I liked the Behringer the most.
You should, lol. Actually the sound of many Behringer products is quite good. It's just their reliability that is crap. But I'm with you on the sound
For me, the Ibanez was the best sounding. The Behringer has a lot of background sizzle and buzz.
Josh from JHS pedals A/B'd it with a japan black label vintage tue screamer and said they sound identical. I have one and it's one of my favourite pedals.
It's literally a ts9. 100% exact same circuitry. Just made with cheap components.
Great pedal for the price!
1:38 Boss super overdrive
4:23 Cuvave Overdrive
5:22 Behringer TO800
6:37 Mosky Mini Obsessive
7:45 Ibanez Tube screamer

The manscape razor next to all those guitars is the manliest thing I’ve ever seen
The Joyo Sweet Baby is another great, cheap overdrive. A little warmer and a little less mid push than a tube screamer type pedal.
Does the Sack Whacker go before or after the overdrive?🎛⚔️
After re-watching the dubbed version of Jojo's bizarre adventure, I think my favourite has to be "Sun-light... Yel-low... O-VER-DRIVE!!!!"
I laughed so hard when you presented the ball trimmer. Probably harder than I should.
DUDEEEEE I also died when that happened as well 😂
The SD1 is my all time fav iloveeeeeee it
Can’t go wrong with the SD-1 or the Behringer TO800, both are phenomenal pedals.
Mosky makes some killer pedals too.
I just picked up the Golden Horse (Klon clone) and the Blue Delay (Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay clone) and they’re amazing.
I have the Golden Horse. Its pretty unique. When I use it for boost I do not have to use very much volume/level for it to make huge difference...
I have both a TS808 and a TS Mini, I prefer the Mini due to the switch.
EHX east river drive is badass tube screamer clone & only $65! I highly recommend it 🎅
BUC-EES FOR THE WIN!
I bought the Cuvave pedal based on this video. It does not sound good. Boss Super Overdrive BEST of the BEST!
Sucks too much bass out of the tone for my taste...but it's still a great pedal at an very great price
Really digging the clean tone at 1:22
Wow, i totaly havent heard that one before, heres your medal 🥇
Hmm I am missing the DigiTech Bad Monkey in this list. Nothing like boosting my mk120 channel RedBear tube amplifier with it to create a nasty old school death metal sound.

Buc’ees forever!!!

Wow. That cuvave sounds great.
Your clean tone is great
Very cool. I might have to get the tube screamer tiny od. Great video man..
the Marsheall Jackhammer, dude! best overdrive pedal ever!
Thought I wanted to see overdrive pedals but I’m just here for the mascaped promo code

The Cuvave Fuzz pedal is pretty damn killer too for $25 off Ali Express. Shipping does take over a month though.
The clean boost was missing. Otherwise a good assortment of options for a cheap second board.
Buc-ee’s!
Nice Buccee's shirt Fluff, nice to see a fellow Texan 🤠
bruh i was high af so i was cracking up during the promo. that shit was funny af
Whoa! I am wondering if you were surprised by all of the comments about your Bucee's t-shirt? That place is a Texas legend just like Blue Bell ice cream. Love all your videos.

Buc-ee's!
might cop that ocd clone...
Do it... it’s good.
They even have the same Mosky Obsessive pedal that actually has Fulltone OCD printed on it and looks exactly like the original - a true clone in every sense (not sure how they get away with it, but it’s the same pedal).
Joyo Vintage Overdrive is what I use. It has a great tone.
Totally...I A-B-ied it with the maxon OD808 and with a little bit of tweaking they sounded exactly the same!
Buc-ee's! Yeah!
Glad to have ya back bud!!!
Love my Behringer, but that Cuvave was interesting.
I have the behringer pedal, and I love it, but I just discovered that my Ibanez TS-9 bass pedal sounds incredible through my amp. Plus it can be a bass boost, since mine is kind of lacking in the low end.
I use a Mosky Crunch Red as my primary OD. It’s pretty good.
Is it still working?
Cool video! Definitely should have included the TC Mojo Mojo and or the TC Dark Matter! IMO of course...and yes...a fan of TC products for killer tone for the money...in no way endorsed by them. 😎🎸🤘🐦
Try the joyo zip amp and taichi, at $52, they are also OD pedals that i just got and Im digging.
Cuvave Fuzz is excellent, too.
That Mosky Obsessive sounded great :)
What did you run these ODs into? Could you do the same video through the Rockerverb MKIII? Or basically a video on which pedals work in front of a Rockerverb MKIII?
kinda surprised. that boss OD would sell second hand here in Philippines for 75-80 USD
those ebay mini pedals are the best kept secret love to see it
I love me the Joyo Overdrive
I like the ball shaver the best
Wow! I like that Cuvave...the cheap one! Oh, but that Behringer is nice too!
A bucees shirt?!?! I’m from the town where it started! Legit fluff!
Curious about the settings being at noon. I always thought that the level was 100, drive was 0, and tone if available was set to taste.
This is for tightening high gain beasts like Mesas or Peaveys. Noon is good for brit type tones like the ones Fluff uses here
AYE BUCCEE'S!!!!
I use a knock off ts9...with just the level all the way up and the other knobs down to 0 on my randall and it sounds mean as hell
Along with a 6 band.. I forgot to say
Nice mix on this intro! What drums You used?
Day 13 I think, I'm going insane.... I've listened to Welcome Home like 25 times...
Just looking into getting some these pedals while I'm hiding from the plague
I thought the mini Ibanez TS is a TS 9. so, I am wrong?
Recent visit to "Tay-hoss" for a Buc-ee shirt? Please continue to not highlight Digitech ODs so they can stay relatively low cost... I have 2 Bad Monkeys and I'm always using at least one of them.
Are there any major diff between the JoYo Ultimate drive and the Mosky? (Both are OCD clones)
All of these sound great, still prefer my slowfire
Fluff!!!!!!!! What do you think of the Joyo overdrive?
Hows about a pt.2 where you use these in front of a full gain amp for those tight chuggy chugs?!?
Bucee's swag!!! Hell yeah!!!
Tubescreamer mini user. Represent
Nice t-shirt. Texas representin!
Got one called Black Teeth. They go about 20 quid and sound lovingly dirty.
is that the RAT copy?
@@EpicStuffMan1000 Yes!
Quarantones
AhhHaHa! I'm picturing Don King in a headlock for some reason!
Check out the OD8 X-drive pedal by Biyang. It's the best cheap Tube Screamer out there. I have gigged with it, and it squeals like a bitch in heat.
I really would’ve like them running through a clean amp. You can’t hear them properly!
Love the shirt. 🤘🏽
Cool demo, I think knocking Behringer for the plastic housing is sort of disingenuous. Hey can you please review The Simble overdrive by Mad Professor
Nice
lol you sound like Grizz from We Bare Bears xD luv the video btw ! :D
Am I crazy or did you update the intro song?
I hate those commercials in the video. That sucks
A guy's gotta eat! ?
Soo... I did not expect coming here thinkin about trimming the hair on my balls... Its like a big AD for Manscaped man.. Came here for the overdrives..
sweet corn
Buckey's!
TC Electronic Dark Matter!
So it's pre-recorded but I can't skip the promotion... Nope.
Your fast-forward button is broken, eh? Mine too
Free high quality content and you can't sit still long enough for the ad that makes the channel possible. Sad.
am i really listening to fluff talk about a ballhair trimmer?
I think it's funny that "Fluff" is sponsored by a company that helps with others' "Fluff" if you know what I mean.
you remind me of bert kreischer that’s what it is about you, you should do these videos shirtless too
