Honestly i think Dawn/Dusk were genuis with starter packs. Having a solid Mon ro latch onto, and then you get 2 badass Ultimates to aim towards, and in trying to get them back you learn how the chart and requirements work. It's not something you can easily lift into other games as the whole degenerating Ultimates was particular to that story, but i think it was just a great way to give you an in-game goal without forcing it onto you.
Yeah, I personally don't get the hate on the Cyber Sleuth starter options, because it seems like it has a Flora, Fauna and Artificial theme going on, showing all aspects of digimon at once.

I mean first dungeon line I grinded out Koromons and tsunamons and evenutally swapped out Terriormon lol. Same with dawn and dusk I mean you get those ultimates at first but one story mission later they get turn to baby digimons.
I evolve my Hagurumon all the way up to chaosdramon and the only reason why I took him off my team was so that I had more room to train up my other Digimon

With pack 2 it's Dianamon, and with pack 3 Bearmon evolves into Marsmon.) So to fight certain bosses and see certain story points, you'd need 3 different playthroughs.
Coronamon, Lunamon, and Bearmon would be story-heavy Digimon. They'd be reincarnated with amnesia before they join your team. Throughout the story they find out who they used to be and their relationships with the other Olympus members. Due to reincarnation and working with a human, they'd end up having fresh ideas of how to support the digital world since they don't have the same prejudices and misguidances of their past life. Note: they can still evolve into whatever they want, but Apollo/Diana/Mars would always be an optional evo in their tree that they can evolve to at any point
I appreciate the obscure digimons being starters, i think it gives them the opportunity to shine and win some fans, like for example Kunemon in survive. But i agree that they need to put some more effort in making them appealing, because i know that im an exception, most people just want their dragon protagonists from the anime, so for it to be more interesting or appealing to everyone, those obscure starters need to come with something interesting. What I would make if I was in charge of a digimon game, is making it like world 3, you can choose between three packs, and every evolution from all mons in those packs will be exclusive to that digimon. The packs will contain two popular mons (one from anime, the other from any other media but still popular) and one obscure (the obscure mon will receive a whole new evolution to complete a line, so it wouldnt be shadowed by the popular ones). The packs: 1- Agumon, Dracumon , Otamamon (Treated as the rookie lvl for Gekomon and ShogunGekomon, so I will create a mega lvl Gekomon for this line) 2- Gaomon, Ryudamon, Candlemon (Related to the Meramon line, So will create a mega lvl Meramon for this line) 3- Gammamon, Lunamon, Starmons (Similar to the previous ones, this will have access to every Starmon and will create a mega lvl Starmon for this lil guy) Thats not my "top" starters i will choose, i just tried to make them varied and following my rules. My whole point is we can have good packs with obscure mons, and would be cool if those obscure mons come with those "surprises". I choose those guys because they are related to families of digimons that lack Mega lvl stages. Great video.
Hmm. You really thought about some great starter packs. I like balanced packs, like a fighter, magician/range and healer. With that said, Dracomon for direct combat, Cutemon for healing and Tsukaimon for range with poison and curses.
Digimon 3 had the best packs. I loved Monmon. I wanted Kotemon. I liked them all. WTF dude Betamon is my fav. The Seadramon line, the Shellmon line, bro. Bro.
The Hagurumon slander is wild to me. He was hands down the only one I considered because I loved how he wasn't just a main character from one of the anime series. But I agree that the three don't make a great trio lol That said, I've always loved Andromon and HiAndromon a lot because of the anime. We have so many unique digimon, I hope we get more starters who aren't already main characters elsewhere. Also, glad to see you talk good about World 4, I fell in love with that game as a kid, but agree it had some faults.
I just wanna see Huckmon or Zubamon in a starter position. They both instantly give off main character vibes, plus they can be very flexible with there line's. Another idea is that we could choose a baby level digimon and then have even more choices for what you're main digimon would be. (Also,I really hope Ludomon is in the next game and Zubamon stays so we can finally get a good look at Ragnelordmon)
I dunno, man. I kinda like Hagurumon. He's mah boi. Goes into all the mecha cool guys. Only thing that would be better, would be getting a Tyrannomon. That's my favorite. I am absoluttely gonna watch that DW3 playthrough though. the starter packs in that game were lit. My starter pack? Alright, let's go hard rogue with this. Vaccine-type: Falcomon. Give him a speed bias, some melee movies with loads of martial arts and stuff. Data-Type: Jazamon. Defensive. Maybe a few stat boosters here and there. Learns at least a few moves that remove enemy buffs. Virus-Type: Funbeemon. Focuses on Long-Ranged and brings the heal skill of the group in the form of feeding people honey. Loads of flavor there, fit for a tense setting and every one of them has evolutions that go hard AF as things kick up.
If I had to make a starter pack myself, Pulsemon, Blucomon, and Vorvomon They're all solid picks the only problem is theres a lack of Data in this selection. If I had to replace one: probably Blucomon for Lunamon

I agree with you that the starters should be balanced out. Sure, people will say you're ripping off Pokemon, but honestly, this is something that Pokemon has done right over the years. That Fire, Water, Grass triangle does its job. There's a reason they haven't changed it since the first one. That #1 pack, bro. That's legit. I'd play with that!! I would love to have more starter packs, like on the Digimon DS games. I recently restarted Dusk version because I wanted Lunamon. But the fact that Digimon World 3 and the DS duology let us pick full packs like that is really neat. I love games like Final Fantasy, where each character serves a role, and those games are structured more like a traditional RPG than a tamagotchi or even a typical monster-raising game so we should have balanced parties! I like picking packs of party members. And even if there's overlap with like Patamon and Renamon, eh, that's really no big deal to me. As far as Cybersleuth is concerned, I am right there with you!! I wasn't really sure on any of the starters... I chose Terriermon, and eventually got him on my favorite Digimon's path by evolving and devolving over and over again. And only because my daughter's favorite Digimon is MetalSeadramon will I choose Betamon when I play Hacker's Memory. But I don't like any of those starters at all personally. I get that I'm not gonna get my favorite every time right off the bat, but at least I can mess with it and eventually get it to come out as my favorite.
i think in new Story game there will be 12 Olympus, so i think there can be that team- Elecmon (Jupitermon line), Coronamon (Appollomon),Lunamon (Dianamon). Jupitermon have Wraith Mode, Appollomon and Dianamon are jogress into GraceNovamon, also Appollomon have Appollomon Whispered =) Also they are 3 all refferences for Digimon Crusaders and Dawn/Dusk as well =)
Side note I feel you on that cyber sleuth replay. I beat it a couple of times just to plat and then cause at the time hackers memory was coming out. Then I beat hacker’s memory and did not go back after one full playthrough with the plat. xD i feel like it was grindy unless I did the platnumnumeomon trick but that gets boring after a while lol

A bird/aquatic Vaccine type that could evolve into avians or a sea creatures, a bug Virus type whose evolutions are cyborgs, and a little Data dragon whom I could easily see turning into any number of dragon or dinosaur evolutions. If we are talking about the Perfect Blend, it is in my personal opinion we get a starter Choice like this For your data type, Salamon/ Patamon, you got to represent Justice or the holy good side. Not only are they fan favorites but at the same time representing that you're trying to choose the good side of the story. Trying to strike a more defensive playstyle or even a supportive. For your virus side we got, Keramon, to represent the evil of evil Digimon the one that wants to spread destruction just like a virus especially with his final form Diaboromon. Just like to every Ying there is a yang, also representing that you want to go completely offensive. And for the final choice and not least our vaccine, Monodramon, a very unusual pick to say the least but at the same time being able to evolve into two different Digimon to represent the neutral path but can sway in either direction, Machinedramon and Justicimon depending on what evolution route you go down. Not only is this able to represent the neutral path but at the same time at any point depending on your choice you could be swayed down either side of the coin. Also I need you to stop hating on my boy hagurumon, he's just a cog in the machine trying to keep this whole thing going.
Cybersleuth/Hacker's memory could have been WAAAAY better if they gave you starter packs like in the other games (Still i wonder why they gave us lunamon but no coronamon idk)

I have to disagree on that Cyber sleuth starter hate, those are some nice fresh choices than the usual Agumon and Gabumon. But my favourite Starter choices are still the three from DW3 Kotemon, Monmon & Bearmon.
I know this is very unlikely to happen but I’d love if the new story game let you choose from a pack of three Digimon (and not just the one) especially if the packs don’t share any Digimon. The only way I can really see this happening is if they decide to make the new story game a remake/heavy reference to Dawn/Dusk.

I fk with ur starter pics, i dont mind betamon as he does turn into metalseadramon who is 🔥. Pulsemon & Herissmon where both interesting too, I'd love to see more of them. While the dino/reptile Digimon are my fav/first choices, i also dig the birds! (flight is always clutch) I would put Hawkmon and/or Falcomon in there. Both have pretty dope digivolutions.
With Digimon games what annoys me is that the games don’t use all baby or in training Digimon that are already shown in tv show like In Cyber Sleuth with Veemon coming from punimon, tsunimon or even worse having a yukibotomon coin but have nyaromon come from punimon. I don’t mind Digimon that don’t have official pre digivolutions coming from known baby forms.

IDK with that Pokemon comparison. I usually can't WAIT to bin my starter. But Digimon? I think you're stressing the "starter" lineup a little too hard considering Digimon is all about digivolving and turning into god knows what. For me, even if I'm not as into, say, Palmon or Wormmon, it's less about if I want to start with them specifically, and more if I want to start with access to plant or insect digivolution trees. That said, I love your idea of selecting 1 vaccine, 1 data, and 1 virus for the starters~ BTW, Dawn and Dusk have you start with Ultimates because a virus knocks you down to rookie right away.

It's not even me stressing, it's you're lack of interest in starters that fuels your POV on the topic....yeah digivolve into anything...but the joy of a starter is the rarity of the options, usually. They should be options unobtainable either entirely, rarely, or specifically (like only one part of the map) IMO. The same way in the shows, you dont see the MCs digimon as wild digimon. They're one of a kind. Another counter could be that the options are more narrative driven (I think about hackers mem), but a little thought and we can make the starters options more special and still tie it to a story...it’s not hard, it just takes the initiative to want them to standout

I really don’t mind Digimon using some lackluster Rookies as your first pick mainly *because* you have so many options for what those Digimon turn out to be. Look at the three you can choose in Cyber Slueth for example. Terriermon just by itself can have a wide variety of Megas as its final form. You could take the vanilla MegaGargomon route, or get one of the two Cherubimon, or Ophanimon, or Rosemon, or even Bancholeonmon. It never feels like you are *stuck* with the Rookies. I honestly appreciate the fact that Bandai is using Digimon that normally people would look over. Who would ever notice the likes of Betamon or Hagurumon and their cool options when they Digivolve? No one. I feel that if the Starter Packs make a return, we should have at least one Digimon in there that is like that. Here’s how I want it to look like. A story pick, a popular pick, and an “underdog” pick. There are so many Digimon that never get the love they deserve and only end up as cameos or just exist exclusively as art.
I feel like a pack should have one Rookie that can Digivolve into one of the Olympus XII, one Popular Digimon, and one Modern Digimon that only appears a small number of times.
So....i have mixed feelings. The formula is solid and i really do agree that putting in characters with more dynamic designs and unique evolution lines is a much better choice but i cant decry the Cyber Sleuth choices completely. I like the animal-vegetable-mineral route that they took but it begins to feel less unique as they evolve. We need better plant digimon lines in the franchise. I honestly like Hagurumon but i agree he doesnt have that main partner energy. Gimme a bit to think on my top 5
I didn't personally mind the options for starters in the story games, but I can agree that they were the weakest lineup and feel that the more pressing issue there is that they all felt disposable even early on in the game. An easy way they could have fixed that would have been to add an exclusive evolution line to the starters specifically so at the very least it differentiated them from other digimon in the game and made them feel unique and special like a real partner.

You keep calling this man Bearmon cause his name is actually Bearmon :v Just another casuality of the inconsistent english dub names. They changed the name of 2 Digimon to "Kumamon" for some unknown reason and when they noticed they changed Bearmon's name back the original. The OG Digimon Story didn't use Attributes so they just gave you Koromon, Tsunomon or Tanemon, which could evolve into the Savers partners to promote the anime. I'd rather they just make new Digimon for that game if they're make us chose starters, but if not, I want them to use Digimon that haven't been main partners in anime seasons so some more obscure guys can get their time in the spotlight. I guess Ghostmon, Penmon and Commandramon would be a good combination

I don't really think the eng dub changes really take anything into account other than itself, but we haven't seen Chackmon in while to be sure. They did still use Kumamon in the card game though. But the dub names pretty much change every game.

Hmm. You really thought about some great starter packs. I like balanced packs, like a fighter, magician/range and healer. With that said, Dracomon for direct combat, Cutemon for healing and Tsukaimon for range with poison and curses.

The Hagurumon slander is wild to me. He was hands down the only one I considered because I loved how he wasn't just a main character from one of the anime series. But I agree that the three don't make a great trio lol
That said, I've always loved Andromon and HiAndromon a lot because of the anime. We have so many unique digimon, I hope we get more starters who aren't already main characters elsewhere.
Also, glad to see you talk good about World 4, I fell in love with that game as a kid, but agree it had some faults.
I just wanna see Huckmon or Zubamon in a starter position. They both instantly give off main character vibes, plus they can be very flexible with there line's. Another idea is that we could choose a baby level digimon and then have even more choices for what you're main digimon would be.
(Also,I really hope Ludomon is in the next game and Zubamon stays so we can finally get a good look at Ragnelordmon)
I dunno, man. I kinda like Hagurumon. He's mah boi. Goes into all the mecha cool guys. Only thing that would be better, would be getting a Tyrannomon. That's my favorite.

My starter pack? Alright, let's go hard rogue with this.
Vaccine-type: Falcomon. Give him a speed bias, some melee movies with loads of martial arts and stuff.
Data-Type: Jazamon. Defensive. Maybe a few stat boosters here and there. Learns at least a few moves that remove enemy buffs.
Virus-Type: Funbeemon. Focuses on Long-Ranged and brings the heal skill of the group in the form of feeding people honey.
Loads of flavor there, fit for a tense setting and every one of them has evolutions that go hard AF as things kick up.
If I had to make a starter pack myself, Pulsemon, Blucomon, and Vorvomon
They're all solid picks the only problem is theres a lack of Data in this selection. If I had to replace one: probably Blucomon for Lunamon

I would love to have more starter packs, like on the Digimon DS games. I recently restarted Dusk version because I wanted Lunamon. But the fact that Digimon World 3 and the DS duology let us pick full packs like that is really neat. I love games like Final Fantasy, where each character serves a role, and those games are structured more like a traditional RPG than a tamagotchi or even a typical monster-raising game so we should have balanced parties! I like picking packs of party members. And even if there's overlap with like Patamon and Renamon, eh, that's really no big deal to me.
As far as Cybersleuth is concerned, I am right there with you!! I wasn't really sure on any of the starters... I chose Terriermon, and eventually got him on my favorite Digimon's path by evolving and devolving over and over again. And only because my daughter's favorite Digimon is MetalSeadramon will I choose Betamon when I play Hacker's Memory. But I don't like any of those starters at all personally. I get that I'm not gonna get my favorite every time right off the bat, but at least I can mess with it and eventually get it to come out as my favorite.
i think in new Story game there will be 12 Olympus, so i think there can be that team- Elecmon (Jupitermon line), Coronamon (Appollomon),Lunamon (Dianamon). Jupitermon have Wraith Mode, Appollomon and Dianamon are jogress into GraceNovamon, also Appollomon have Appollomon Whispered =) Also they are 3 all refferences for Digimon Crusaders and Dawn/Dusk as well =)

If we are talking about the Perfect Blend, it is in my personal opinion we get a starter Choice like this
For your data type, Salamon/ Patamon, you got to represent Justice or the holy good side. Not only are they fan favorites but at the same time representing that you're trying to choose the good side of the story. Trying to strike a more defensive playstyle or even a supportive.
For your virus side we got, Keramon, to represent the evil of evil Digimon the one that wants to spread destruction just like a virus especially with his final form Diaboromon. Just like to every Ying there is a yang, also representing that you want to go completely offensive.
And for the final choice and not least our vaccine, Monodramon, a very unusual pick to say the least but at the same time being able to evolve into two different Digimon to represent the neutral path but can sway in either direction, Machinedramon and Justicimon depending on what evolution route you go down. Not only is this able to represent the neutral path but at the same time at any point depending on your choice you could be swayed down either side of the coin.
Also I need you to stop hating on my boy hagurumon, he's just a cog in the machine trying to keep this whole thing going.

I know this is very unlikely to happen but I’d love if the new story game let you choose from a pack of three Digimon (and not just the one) especially if the packs don’t share any Digimon. With Digimon games what annoys me is that the games don’t use all baby or in training Digimon that are already shown in tv show like In Cyber Sleuth with Veemon coming from punimon, tsunimon or even worse having a yukibotomon coin but have nyaromon come from punimon. I don’t mind Digimon that don’t have official pre digivolutions coming from known baby forms.

IDK with that Pokemon comparison. I usually can't WAIT to bin my starter.
But Digimon? I think you're stressing the "starter" lineup a little too hard considering Digimon is all about digivolving and turning into god knows what. For me, even if I'm not as into, say, Palmon or Wormmon, it's less about if I want to start with them specifically, and more if I want to start with access to plant or insect digivolution trees.
That said, I love your idea of selecting 1 vaccine, 1 data, and 1 virus for the starters~
BTW, Dawn and Dusk have you start with Ultimates because a virus knocks you down to rookie right away.

It's not even me stressing, it's you're lack of interest in starters that fuels your POV on the topic....yeah digivolve into anything...but the joy of a starter is the rarity of the options, usually.
They should be options unobtainable either entirely, rarely, or specifically (like only one part of the map) IMO.
The same way in the shows, you dont see the MCs digimon as wild digimon. They're one of a kind. Another counter could be that the options are more narrative driven (I think about hackers mem), but a little thought and we can make the starters options more special and still tie it to a story...it’s not hard, it just takes the initiative to want them to standout

I really don’t mind Digimon using some lackluster Rookies as your first pick mainly *because* you have so many options for what those Digimon turn out to be. Look at the three you can choose in Cyber Slueth for example. Terriermon just by itself can have a wide variety of Megas as its final form. You could take the vanilla MegaGargomon route, or get one of the two Cherubimon, or Ophanimon, or Rosemon, or even Bancholeonmon. It never feels like you are *stuck* with the Rookies. I honestly appreciate the fact that Bandai is using Digimon that normally people would look over. Who would ever notice the likes of Betamon or Hagurumon and their cool options when they Digivolve? No one. I feel that if the Starter Packs make a return, we should have at least one Digimon in there that is like that. Here’s how I want it to look like. A story pick, a popular pick, and an “underdog” pick. There are so many Digimon that never get the love they deserve and only end up as cameos or just exist exclusively as art.
I feel like a pack should have one Rookie that can Digivolve into one of the Olympus XII, one Popular Digimon, and one Modern Digimon that only appears a small number of times.
For example a cool one could be Coronamon, Impmon, and Herrismon. Vaccine, Virus, and Data. A “scrappy” one, a ranged attacker, and a mixed attacker.
So....i have mixed feelings.
The formula is solid and i really do agree that putting in characters with more dynamic designs and unique evolution lines is a much better choice but i cant decry the Cyber Sleuth choices completely. I like the animal-vegetable-mineral route that they took but it begins to feel less unique as they evolve.
We need better plant digimon lines in the franchise.
I honestly like Hagurumon but i agree he doesnt have that main partner energy.

I like hagurumon to get clockmon line personally but I get they arent the most popular.
I didn't personally mind the options for starters in the story games, but I can agree that they were the weakest lineup and feel that the more pressing issue there is that they all felt disposable even early on in the game. An easy way they could have fixed that would have been to add an exclusive evolution line to the starters specifically so at the very least it differentiated them from other digimon in the game and made them feel unique and special like a real partner.

Just another casuality of the inconsistent english dub names. They changed the name of 2 Digimon to "Kumamon" for some unknown reason and when they noticed they changed Bearmon's name back the original.
The OG Digimon Story didn't use Attributes so they just gave you Koromon, Tsunomon or Tanemon, which could evolve into the Savers partners to promote the anime. I'd rather they just make new Digimon for that game if they're make us chose starters, but if not, I want them to use Digimon that haven't been main partners in anime seasons so some more obscure guys can get their time in the spotlight.
I guess Ghostmon, Penmon and Commandramon would be a good combination
I was going to post this exact same thing lol. They may not want an official Kumamon because that's also the name of a character made to be a mascot for a prefecture in japan.
I don't really think the eng dub changes really take anything into account other than itself, but we haven't seen Chackmon in while to be sure.
They did still use Kumamon in the card game though. But the dub names pretty much change every game.
