WOW MARY I have been interested in this vertical planter and it sure sounds like they have thought about every instruction u could possibly need to CLEARLY understand how to put it together!! OF COURSE YOUR COMMENTS R SUPERB AS WELL!!👌 LUV this video thx a million👍❣️
Hi Mary, you've touched on a topic that is close to my heart for a number of reasons! I LOVE Greenstalks, and have 2 of them now. I also reached out to the woman whose family started Greenstalks business, due to them living in my birthplace of Knoxville, TN, at the beginning of my Greenstalks journey, and we chatted. I now live in Vermont, and during the disastrous flood we had here in July of this year, I had ALL my Greenstalks wash away, down our river. I took a picture of the silty bases of my greenstalks, and shared that on Facebook. Lo and behold, this wonderful woman and her business reached out and sent me two full new Greenstalk kits, without charge! I was moved to tears, literally. I love my Greenstalks so much, and even more because of their beautiful history. And, I also am a huge fan of Jess at R&R. Thank you for this video, it is very helpful.
WOW Gale…what a beautiful story you shared💕🇨🇦 I just purchased my first GreenStalk yesterday I did some research and was fortunate enough to locate a company here in Canada who sells them I can’t wait ❣️❣️ Getting my ProMix and worm castings tmro so I will be READY when it arrives I hope your life is returning to some normalcy after your traumatic experience 🙏🥰💕
@@bobbipearcey2059 ,thank you Bobbi! Yes, this business is exceptional, and for so many reasons. First of all, because their products are high, high quality, and second of all, because they truly have a heart! I very much wish you luck with your Green Stalk, and what I would say is the same thing as Mary stresses--light and fluffy soil is the way to go, and also once things are established for a month or so, I would water your Green Stalk with a weak dose of liquid fertilizer about every 2-3 weeks, whatever liquid fertilizer you like, and your little plants will be very happy! I am just now setting up my GreenStalks with herbs and strawberries. As you know, living in Canada, our season doesn't get going very early. Good luck, and thank you for your message!🌻♥
I have strawberrys in mine. I really like it. It keeps the strawberrys up off the dirt. I do find the top row dries out faster then the other layers. I do add extra water to this row. I haven't got the water base top yet. I just use a 5 gallon bucket paint strainer to keep leaves and dirt out. I also put a small flag on one side of the top row so I know what side has been sitting in the sun
What do you mean you haven't gotten the water base top? It is included with rhe greenstalk. If you did not receive that, you should contact them, you paid for it already.
Did you plant the strawberries from seed or starts. I came across bare root strawberry plants yesterday and they were $9 each. No way can I fill a tower with those.
I have 6 planters on my patio, Mary - these are a GAME CHANGER! I have grown lbs of carrots, strawberries, tomatoes, Aunt Molly’s Ground Cherries, petunias, marigolds and herb! Fun, simple & builds gardener confidence!!!❤🤟🏼
@@coopie624 thx for asking, I have been growing currants, moonbeam, cherry, chocolate cherry, tomatillos, Aunt Mollys Ground Cherry Tomatoes - a happy chaos!
One thing they make that was a game changer for me was a watering system. I set up a timer and it is consistent watering. I've never had such a lush tower.
I love the Greenstalks! I’m in NE Indiana my lettuce usually grows in the spring and until the hot weather starts then again as a fall garden. I used a Greenstalk for the first time this year. I grew lettuce all summer long. Loved it!
You did a marvelous job of walking us through the vertical garden setup. Greenstalk should refer all their new clients to your video! This system sounds wonderful & I bet it's a real back saver, too. I will have to put this on my Christmas wish list. I live in Galveston County so I know the kind of heat you're having. I'm just amazed you were able to stand it long enough to complete this video. Thank you for all your hard work. You have such a beautiful smile & a beautiful Spirit within you.
I heard El nino is coming this winter will be bad. I hope we don't get snow like the last time! 😔 It's nice here it's in the seventies. It was abnormal this summer cooler than usual! That's why I think winter is going to be bad this year! 😟
I am in Northern AZ and know all about heat, sun, dry and that welcome shade. Several of my friends have become huge fans of vertical gardening (indoors). with grow lights and filtered sunlight from windows. I am financially strapped at the moment, and not able to order such a system. But hopefully next year.... GREAT video and very helpful.
Greenstalk has added a new add-on called The Spring. It is an automatic watering system. I live in Phoenix and this is a vital addition. It also includes a lid. I will be setting up my Greenstalks with the new Springs next month. It is too hot to plant anything right now.
I've purchased a similar vertical growing system that also has an integrated vermacomposting system column in the center. I have not set it up yet so l really enjoyed this video, especially the information on the seeds you choose. The watering system on your vertical planter seems absolutely necessary in your climate. Speaking of water, I have so enjoyed the sound of your pond in the background! Amazing that you can hold up so beautifully in that heat, I wilt in anything over 85! Thank you for your fun & informative videos.
I’m glad you started using Greenstalks! I grow most of my herbs in them - heck, picked fresh basil and parsley today right outside my kitchen door on my elevated porch for a few menus today. If you buy an extra water reservoir you can make shorter towers too so you can see inside the top AND you can use 5 gallon paint strainer bags on top of the reservoir to stop things from getting into the water system.
Hi Rob! It’s terrific. So happy I discovered it! I shared your channel in this video so I Hope folks head over and visit with you and learn all your great gardening tips!! Love to the SG family, Mary
You're such a great teacher! This vertical garden looks manageable to me. My hubby got me a wooden, raised planter box one year. I planted cucumbers and failed them. I don't know what went wrong, but they turned yellow and they were not a yellow variety. I wasn't able to harvest anything. I haven't used it since then, but I have also been dealing with other things and have not had the time to try again. I'll have to dump out all the soil first in case it was contaminated, and start over. Maybe next year. I also have bag pots that I haven't used yet. I'll have to figure it all out. I've never had a green thumb, as they say. But I did want to grow something. I'll keep watching for your suggestions. Thank you! ❤️
I bought the original one a few years ago. I was skeptical because it's plastic and I'm in a desert. It has done well for me, even in 100 to 120 degrees dry Summer sun. I put in strawberries because the bugs get the berries when I grow in a planter. My suggestions. 1) Make sure it's level. My dear hubby saw me putting it together and decided to give it a solid foundation. He took four concrete pavers and made me a level pad. 2). Take it apart at least every two years. The potting mix compacts and the planter will grow better with fresh potting mix. 3) know your soil. For me, in desert heat, potting mix can dry out and then be hard to rehydrate. But, potting mix is definitely the best choice here. What I do is add a little of my DG soil to coat the peat moss fibers. A little clay soil, or even azomite, would work too. It only takes a little, well mixed in. But, in other climates you may not even need this step.
Hi Mary, I’ve watched this video a few times now, and I have purchased 6 Greenstalks over the past year. I’ve also purchased 3 insect protection cover2 and a frost cover. Last year was an experimental year for me and I was out of town for work for most of the spring season. Now that I’ve retired from traveling, I’m working from home and I have much more time to dedicate to gardening. I’m hoping this year I have a bumper crop. I’ve looked through your videos and I don’t see a follow up video of your garden. I’d love to know what challenges you’ve had, and what successes you’ve had. Currently, I have one original filled with just strawberries. Other originals have herbs, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, peppermint and probably a lot more. I have one leaf that was just delivered yesterday that I’m planning on reserving for edible flowers and medicinal plants. My challenge is having level ground so I can take it off my porch so they can get more sun. I would need to move them out of the sun, but even with the mover on wheels, I would not be able to move it over the rough terrain in my yard. I’m going to have to figure something out. Perhaps some shade cover. Do you have any suggestions? I’ve also purchased raspberry, blueberry and blackberry bushes; a fig, avocado and banana tree. My Meyer lemon tree has a ton of beautiful smelling flowers on it! Hoping to get lemons this year! Thank you for all you do for us! 💝💞💖
I live in Nashville Georgia ,yup more than one Nashville, zone 8a ,we also had a brutally HOT ,DRY summer.....was awful......soooo difficult to keep all watered.....I also have n love my original greenstaulk also have wheels ,cover,n brackets for hanging larger plants.....less bugs....n chickens can't get plants lol ...
Greenstalk now sells a watering system which is great. I have 7 of them and had created automatic irrigation with drip lines myself but the clips they sell that clip onto the planter are really helpful.
Mary these are awesome. Thank you so much for reviewing. Here in Ky our temperatures can vary day to day. What a great idea for these to be on wheels for mobility. I have enjoyed your beautiful channel as a long-time subscriber. Thank you for your detailed videos information and wonderful topics you cover. Wishing you much success with your vertical planting.
I just got a GreenStalk Planter last month. I have planted herbs, flowers, peppers and Green Beans in it. I already have the seeds sprouting and the transplants are growing. Enjoy and I hope you have great success with yours.
Love my Greenstalk so much I bought a second one last year! I also have recently ordered two 5 foot tubes for draining so I can direct overflow from the planters on my deck to nearby raised beds. I, too, live in Texas, and having the planters on the deck offers that much-needed shade 🙂
Fabulous. Video, so thorough as your style is, I don't know how you were able to stay out in the heat. But overall a great product idea. Thanks for sharing.
I bought 2. One was filled with some strawberries and herbs...the other with lettuce, carrots, radishes and the like. Getting ready to replant with some spinach and lettuces.
Hi Mary So glad to see you’re filling your greenstalk 😊 👏 Excellent information on the Cayenne pepper oil I do have your cookbook. I will have to take a look at the hot sauce recipes in there. I have 3 now aside from garden beds ….the frost covers are a must have. I’m in 7b-8 Ms. I used frost protection covers and was able to leave them outside under the patio keep everything living over the winter 😊👍 Thank you for sharing your planting w us all
I also had the results you had with horizontal fig cuttings in sand. I had seen it on the video posted by Chad of The American Fig Company. I will try your vertical method. Thanks.
Love your patio furniture, Mary; and that's an awesome cross, too!! No matter how long that I live, I will never understand 'why' people wear gloves in the garden, when working the soil. #1 reason to garden.....growing ones own non toxic foods. ALSO #1 reason to garden......getting ones HANDS INTO THE SOIL! lol It's such a great feeling to feel the 'earth' in ones hands/between ones fingers.
Can get a bad infection that can be life threatening especially if u have a cut or wound - better to be safe & wear your gloves - there’s a lot of bacteria, molds & yeast in soils😊
I planted petunias in one of my garden stalks (got the idea from Becky on Acre Homestead). It was a cascading planter if purples and pinks that was so gorgeous I am doing it again next year!
Thank you Ms. Mary for doing this video!! I have seen this done by people on RUclips but not this detailed. I have learned so much from you, thank you. I love your cookbook too!! Hugs and blessings to you from New Orleans ❤❤
You have done the best explanation and demonstration of these grow towers that I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing this video. I also love the accessories. I had no idea these towers are so convenient.!
WoW, vertical planting, . .what a fab space saving idea, . . will look into doing this next year. Thank You So Very Much For Sharing This. Blessings 💛✨🙏🙇🏼♀🙏✨💛
Love my Greenstalk so much I bought another one just for my strawberries. Going to get a third one next year to grow leafy greens or herbs in. They make watering so much easier.
I appreciate your input because I am just now deciding to purchase a greenstalk and have decided on the 7 tier original. I live in DFW in 8b. It's extremely hot and very dry here. I am hoping I will be able to actually grow some things. The past several years, it has been very difficult to grow. Thanks for your input!
Thank you so much with your discount I will try one … Love all your videos Mary…🌸 and your beautiful family … I love the relationship between you and your son 🌸
BTW got the wheels but not the swivel base not sure if available when I bought but definally get .....Mary u are such a great teacher love listening.....
Mary thank you for researching the green stalk I’ve been on the fence about investing in 1 or 2 for my patio. Not much information out there yet. I live in CO short growing season so I’m very excited to see what happens with your green stalk produce. Looking forward to more video information. Job well done!!!!!
Gardener Scott utube chnl lives in CO n has greenstalk on his patio n also talks about soil n setup. Look 4 GS sale the week b4 mothers day n use $10 additional off w marys code. I am setting mine up now so will b ready in spring.
Thanks for sharing. Figured out that I can do transcription or data entry at home and he soonest. First I need a desk and a new computer. I use three five-drawer chests as my desk and naturally doubles as clothing storage and maybe books if I don't have room for a bookshelf in the next place. Got your cookbook in the mail yesterday.
in my planter will mix in some gel beads to hold on to water,,finding planter drying out fast .....cover nice we have pine needles.....wasn't available......I did pull apart after season n not many clogs.....love the system ....great company.....glad u featured.....
I was watching your video on my shaded patio, and when you mentioned the temperature where you are at, I looked over at the thermastat and it was 102. I can imagine how warm you are, filming a video in this heat with a long sleeve blouse, hat and apron, even in the shade! I'm in the house now cooling off in front of the fan thinking about your new planters and I am very curious how well they do for you. Strawberry pots for growing strawberries have never worked for me, but that system looks wonderful and you have now tempted me. 😄
Wonderful video. You really went into detail. I would feel confident setting this up because of your guidance. This company should feature this video on their website and pay you $$$😅
I am currently saving for green stocks for this next coming spring/summer! I’m hoping to get five of them! My only concern is my yard is not fenced in and I have a family of squirrels in the backyard who I do feed and have a feeder at four and I’m afraid they’re gonna eat my veggies too lol thank you so much for doing this video. I can’t wait to watch your fall garden so I can see how it produces items because I plan to get mine in the spring and I’m super excited. 2:512:54
That sounds wonderful… And potentially the mesh insect protection cover, might help you protect against those pesky squirrels. I would call GreenStalk and ask them what they think. Love, Mary Oh thank you.
@@MarysNest thank you so much for letting me know the squirrels. We actually consider them family they’ve been here for a very long time and Mama just had a newborn a couple of weeks ago lol we love them and we do feed them quite often and they also have to move the squirrel feeder. Lol but I will definitely check in and find out if that would help. Thank you so much and again, thank you for such a detailed video. I absolutely am obsessed with your channel and I have learned so much from you so thank you for teaching. All of us. Your channel has definitely changed lives for the best.
Oh I love this so much! I never gave the Greenstalk much thought but now I think I really need one or even two🤗. Thank you for the great video sweet friend❤
I made the big mistake of not getting the base. Get the base! It should be included in my opinion. Mine toppled not once but twice. It was level, I left hose in top to fill a very low pressure and over it went, what a sweet mess. 🥺 I started again and was most luckily in a hurry as usual and I'm not sure the levels were snapped in right. It could have been my fault but I don[t think so. Whammo, another mess and now I'm doing it for the 3rd time!
I have one but with my given space I wish they'd make half circles. The round tower is in the way, the drain hose is too short to keep turning it, wind pushed it over once, but I did not have all wheels locked. Oh and short me can't handle 5 tiers 😁
You know, you have a really good idea. You should write to greenstalk and recommend a half version. That would be fantastic. And it would be perfect especially for people who lived in apartments and had balconies and didn’t necessarily want to block their view, and also wanted something that would kind of be protected by the railing from wind, etc. You are so smart! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
@@MarysNest thank you! I had that in my head ever since I got my greenstalk, for my space it just doesn't fit right. I need to contact them anyway, I need a second base and one more container to just have 2 short towers with 3 tiers each. Half ones I could set along the wall and not need to rotate would be so much better😉
Yes, Jess turned me onto to it too and talked me into asking for it on mother's Day a couple of years ago. I love watching your show and it's a bonus that we're both in Texas. Thank you for all your good information you share.
@@tamarabeck6350 it depends which type of product you buy and which features you add on and what discounts you apply. I got mine for a little over $100 on a Mother's Day sale two years ago. Normally it's $170-$210 bare bones.
I watched whippoorwill holler and mixed my soil that way. Recommend fox farm potting soil, vermiculite peat moss worm castings and organic fertilizer. Also Garry Pilarchik his recent video. I started with one green stalk beginning summer and love it. Recent;y bought 3 more with one being the leaf size for my back deck. All on sale and used subscribers discount code. Definitely doing one of the planters all strawberries.
Congrats! I love my Greenstalks My plants thrived n looked amazing i highly recommend Dr Earth’s Organic Fertilizers. High quality soil makes all the difference. Usually you amend your soil as you fill each level. Happy growing. Can’t wait to see your updates. BTW I love your videos. Thank you for all the great n helpful information you share. Would also love updates on your grain mill.
I tried to subscribe , but , RUclips says I have too many subscriptions !!!! Keep making gardening videos and I'll keep watching !!!! Thank you very much !!!!
Hello Sweet and precious Mary, Have you heard of Aeroponic Tower Gardens? It’s a hydroponic system. It can be indoor or outdoor gardening. Living in Florida, similar weather to Texas, I’m opting to grow indoors with the grow lights, due to the bugs and extreme weather here.
It’s fun to watch this as I’m starting to put things away for winter. We had 40F night before last, day temps are in the low to mid 50s, and there’s lots of new snow on the mountains. Need to get my celery harvested and probably the last of my lettuces. Hopefully next year we’re going to build a small greenhouse. I have looked at these vertical planters for a while now. They are not cheap! And shipping to Alaska was $$$. Then I found a cheaper version - regretted it ever since. It’s flimsy, the pockets aren’t deep enough - didn’t even put it together this year
Oh no! Yes, I think the GreenStalk brand is probably made the best. Yes, I can imagine shipping to Alaska is not easy or inexpensive! But these are SUCH HIGH QUALITY! Love, Mary
sorry sooo $$$ to ur home....my dad built ur ?? highway during war time.....told us so much about ur state . I remember when we celebrated ??? 1959...??? becoming r ??49 the state.....best wishes....must be tough breed to live there ....BTW I only buy Alaskan salmon......🙏❤️🗽

Thank you Mary! 🤗
Time for an update on your GreenStalk Planter - please 🥕🫑🥬
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Fantastic
Wow!! What a great company!! ❤️
WOW Gale…what a beautiful story you shared💕🇨🇦
I just purchased my first GreenStalk yesterday
I did some research and was fortunate enough to locate a company here in Canada who sells them
I can’t wait ❣️❣️
Getting my ProMix and worm castings tmro so I will be READY when it arrives
I hope your life is returning to some normalcy after your traumatic experience 🙏🥰💕
It's surprising how much planting space there is and how many plants you can fit in it. I can't wait to see how your vertical garden grows! 🌸 Michele
Hi Michele!! Thanks so much for visiting!! Yes, I can't wait to see how it works!! Love, Mary
Great tip!
Wow. Amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing this!! ❤️🤗❤️
What kind of tomatoes did you grow?
@@coopie624 thx for asking, I have been growing currants, moonbeam, cherry, chocolate cherry, tomatillos, Aunt Mollys Ground Cherry Tomatoes - a happy chaos!
@@victoriawyatt9496 wow! You have a happy garden! lol I want to grow paste tomatoes and some slicers.
One thing they make that was a game changer for me was a watering system. I set up a timer and it is consistent watering. I've never had such a lush tower.
I just received the watering system, haven’t set it up yet.
Hi Mary! I have 2 greenstalks. I put my strawberry plants in them. Keeps them off the ground, away from bugs and my chickens.❤
Great idea!!
Where are you located? I am afraid my strawberry roots would freeze out over winter.
Hello Mary, I am in the UK & have just ordered one from Sweden, who seem to be the only importers of them from America.
I love the Greenstalks! I’m in NE Indiana my lettuce usually grows in the spring and until the hot weather starts then again as a fall garden. I used a Greenstalk for the first time this year. I grew lettuce all summer long. Loved it!
WOW!! So happy to hear this!! Love, Mary
Thank you so much! Yes - it really is a back saver!! Love, Mary
Yes she does!!! 😀
Thanks for sharing!
Greenstalk has added a new add-on called The Spring. It is an automatic watering system. I live in Phoenix and this is a vital addition. It also includes a lid. I will be setting up my Greenstalks with the new Springs next month. It is too hot to plant anything right now.
Wow!! is it hard to connect? Do you have to connect it to an irrigation system or a faucet?
I got the watering system too - perfect for the hot CA temps!
@@MarysNest You connect it to a hose and a timer to make it automatic.
I've just ordered my first greenstalk and can't wait to get it planted up.
I look forward to seeing how your Greenstalk turns out!
Thank you so much! But trust me - I was wilting! LOL!! Love, Mary
@@MarysNest Please stay hydrated! I'm sure you have a good recipe, I think I saw a video a bit ago for a hydration mix you make.
Mary did you ever do a follow up video? I wanted to see your plant growth and the insect proctor cover.
Great tip!!
Their Terracotta colored products are on sale for 35% off, and you can stack Mary's $10 coupon too!
WOW!! Fantastic!!
I have one and love it. It has strawberries in it. I advise spinning it around once in awhile to make sure all sides get even sun
Thanks for the tip!
That looks like a great option for vertical gardening, Mary. I wish I had that during my apartment living years. Have a blessed week.
Hi Rob! It’s terrific. So happy I discovered it! I shared your channel in this video so I Hope folks head over and visit with you and learn all your great gardening tips!! Love to the SG family, Mary
You did the best job of explaining this as anyone I have ever seem and believe me I have watched many. I hope they send you a free one❣️❣️❣️
Thank you! ❤️
Great to see you again Miss Mary.
You too!
So excited to see this video! Southeast Texan here. Looks like this might help me to finally have a garden. Thank you, Mary!
Can't wait to see how everything grows. ❤
Me too!
Oh Mary! That looks wonderful! I think I want to do one as well! Thank you so much for this! God bless.
WOW!! Thank you so much for being here with me on this journey!! Love, Mary
Your gentle enthusiasm is very appreciated, thank you for another great video Mary. Love from California!
I just got a GreenStalk Planter last month. I have planted herbs, flowers, peppers and Green Beans in it. I already have the seeds sprouting and the transplants are growing. Enjoy and I hope you have great success with yours.
Wow! Wonderful to hear!! Love, Mary
Love my Greenstalk so much I bought a second one last year! I also have recently ordered two 5 foot tubes for draining so I can direct overflow from the planters on my deck to nearby raised beds. I, too, live in Texas, and having the planters on the deck offers that much-needed shade 🙂
I have been looking at this system for months! Yay, Mrs. Mary! 🎉❤🎉

Hi Mary
So glad to see you’re filling your greenstalk 😊 👏
Excellent information on the Cayenne pepper oil
I do have your cookbook. I will have to take a look at the hot sauce recipes in there.
I have 3 now aside from garden beds ….the frost covers are a must have.
I’m in 7b-8 Ms. I used frost protection covers and was able to leave them outside under the patio keep everything living over the winter 😊👍
Thank you for sharing your planting w us all
I also had the results you had with horizontal fig cuttings in sand.
So true!
Oh yes, certainly if you have broken skin - be careful. :-)
I have 5 greenstalks...I love them for herbs and I have tried a bunch of other veggies and flowers!❤❤❤
WOW!! That is awesome!
You are so welcome! Glad it was helpful. And thank you so much for purchasing my book - I'm so happy you love it!! Love, Mary

Hi Jackie!! Thank you so much for visiting!! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Oh no!! YES, I think the base makes life very easy indeed! Love, Mary
Mary you are a wonderful inspiration ❤thank you for sharing
I am so happy for you miss Mary! Wish I could share my setup. I love my greenstalk.
So happy to hear that you love your GreenStalk!

Hello Sweet and precious Mary,
Have you heard of Aeroponic Tower Gardens? It’s a hydroponic system. It can be indoor or outdoor gardening.
