Ugh…. Chinese made, plan for a very short!!! Lifespan. The Greenstalk is made in Tennessee- a family endeavor- we need to do our BEST to support made in USA products!
I have the same Vivosun planter and it stays on my deck year round winter and summer (I live in Canada) . I've had it for three years and it's still as good as the first day year I used it. I do cover it for the winter as it gets piled with snow but it's still going strong. I also have 2 Garden Tower 2's and they are awesome but I would like to buy a Green stalk to try them out.
Thank you for this video. I’m a visual learner so to see these in real life makes a difference for me. I like the watering convenience of the big one and after seeing it with all the available space, it seems like a great value. I don’t love plastic but there would be no way to handle the tower if it was made of a natural substance and as a space saver, it’s has its value.
I love my Greenstalk planters. The extra money you spend for the wheeled spinner base is worth it every penny. I roll mine in the garage when a prolonged hard freeze is expected. It is also great when you want the move it out of the blazing sun in August.
Thank. you for sharing this comparison. I have the $1.25 tree version my husband picked up for me a few years back, and they work okay, yet I really appreciate you sharing this comparisons.
The irrigation system for the Greenstalk that was released last year was a gamechanger. I live in the desert where it hits 115-120 in the summer. It's nice to know that my tower gets watered throughout the day even when I'm at work.
Hi. I cover the drain holes with mosquito mesh, and wrap around it with waterproof tape. Water flows freely, and no soil gets thru that would clog the holes.😊
You need the stand with the rollers on it, so you can move the planter around. That way it can get sun to all plants easily. This is my third year planting in mine. You will be removing soil as you go so the plants will fit. I really enjoy mine. It looks as good as when I first bought it. Mine was so top heavy last year that the strong winds blew it over. I got it back together again, and the plants survived and kept growing and going.my son in law put a piece of rebar through it this year, but I’m hoping it doesn’t interfere with the watering system.
Hi ! Great comparison between the 2 products ! 🤣 I bought the one on the right! I am only going to use each one for lettuce and spinach! So they will be perfect and a perfect size ! I will be putting them on plastic chairs outside ! No bending ! I usually grow in buckets from the dollar store, so this was right up my alley ! 🤣🤣🤣! Thank you for the great comparison! Looks are deceiving ! But so was the price 😆! Happy Gardening 💞
I just got my first Greenstalk and also got the rotating base and the roller along with it. Will be nice to rotate it towards the sun whenever it needs it.
The little ones are what I but herbs in by my back door just outside the kitchen. That way if I need an herb for a recipe I’m not having to run all the way to the garden. The green stalks are in the garden with my raised beds. I put rebar post in the ground around my green stalk to keep them from blowing over as I live in Florida and well we get strong winds. The small ones I put out in the garden I put flowers to help bring the honey bees in to pollenate the other plants. I have bee keepers all around me and their bees help my garden.
On a deck...you'll want some type of platform to keep the water and soil off you deck underneath the first tier. Greenstalk sells different types. Lighter type soils are better to allow water to drain better top to bottom (ultimate spinner w/or w/o wheels), also so you can rotate your plant sun/shade. Your soil seems very dense. Also, consider lid for water reservoir to keep leaves/dirt out.
I just ordered a GreenStalk and read several different reviews about some of these vertical towers before ordering. Several people said the less expensive towers did not water the lower tiers well. By the time the water dripped to the layers below, the water source was exhausted and the lower tiers of the planter had to be hand watered. The GreenStalk system had better reviews about the water making it all the way to the bottom layers of the tower. I am curious to see how your experience compares. I am looking forward to receiving my GreenStalk and appreciate the info.
Could you do a video of what your growing? Would be good to see veggies and herbs that are more mature. I'm debating on getting a stackable garden. Thanks for the demo!
I'd think you could get two, or maybe even three, of the little ones and comhine them to make one big one. It would be tippy, but given that it's already made to have a chain going through it, you could get a longer length of chain and use that to stabilize it. Likely not the most practical solution for many people, it's just the perspective of someone who loves to tinker with stuff.
There shouldn't be any surprise in the size of the Vivisun planter. The product description ssys roughly 12" x 12" x 24". Mr Stacky might have been a better comparison. Thank you for the video.
There is one very important thing to know about the GreenStalk. It is a plastic that doesn’t leech into your soil, so if you want to plant “ food” products, not a good idea to put them into the cheap, China product. Flowers will probably be fine in the cheaper one.
Different products, different purposes. I know people who use both. If you are ever unsure of the plastic quality spray paint for UV protection. I've had items last 10 years with proper protection.
Each tier of the Greenstalk takes one 40-pound bag of soil? Yikes! It looks cool, though, and I'm very interested but I'm crunching some numbers for it!
The most important thing is, is not to use potting soil. It needs a mix. I have 3 greenstalks that’s I’ve had for 3+ years. Where’s your base? Buy the spinner base and wheels.
For $150, which is more than 'Greenstalk' would have charged you for that planter, you didn't get the SPINNING BASE that comes with it & the OVERFLOW tubing! Pretty sure the component to 'secure' the other product's CHAIN was probably in the bag and the chain itself was intend to be strung through ALL the planters.
The spinning base costs extra from Greenstalk and the tubing comes with that base. You can get the bundle that comes with the Greenstalk planter, the spinning base, the tube, and the wheels for around $200 plus it also comes with a support for trellising plants
Chain may be to slow the water on its way to bottom. I have a chain from my roof gutter to garden that help water my clematis climbing plant. Does the chain go down the centre watering hole. Just an idea.
You’re not supposed to put that kind of soil in the GreenStalk planters. The company recommends the pro mix and that’s what I’ve always used in my potted plants, and it works beautifully for these green stalk planters. You end up with a lot of problems if you have heavy soil .
Funny you said that. Others have said the same thing and I thought it was right. So I got the pamphlet that came with my new Greenstalk that isn’t put together yet. It says in Step 1, Potting Mix or Potting Soil. Don’t compress. Soils differ and are heavier than Mix. Use lighter soil or add perlite if possible. Potting Mix is preferred.
@@rosemarythyme8595 You said not to use that kind of soil. The company pamphlet that comes in the GreenStalk says to use potting mix or potting soil. How is he not using the right soil. He shows the front of the bag and it says organic potting soil. All potting soils are not equal. So yes, I prefer the Mix. But he did not use garden soil.
That last shot of the comparison is all you need to see the difference. I dont think either are good for pepper plants. Mine grow up to 4ft tall and would flop over and out of both.
@grassrootsgardening Another thing you may want to try is the Aerogarden. It's a compact hydroponics system that can be kept on a small countertop. I thought those were useless, but I have changed my mind. I have two; the sprout and the harvestxl. I have found each has their strengths. The sprout is great for sprouting seeds and growing short plants like salad. The harvestxl grows taller plants like basil. I have a basil plant that is one year old in there, that has seeded twice, and I am starting the next generation before I remove it. I have to say, in the end, you could have three 2 feet plants in the harvestxl before there are too many roots in the water tank. There is nothing like fresh Genovese Basil all year round. I have wondered how the Amazon knock-off compares, too.
sorry - not a good tutorial for filling the greenstalk. Use lightweight, porous growing mix, don't compact it and it's important not to get soil in each of the reservoirs or the drain holes will get clogged and not let the water through. There are better tutorials out there to help succeed with growing in a greenstalk. I do appreciate the comparison between brands, but as a demonstration for setting up a greenstalk, don't recommend. One cubic foot of a lightweight potting mix in each layer won't be nearly as heavy, either.
So would you say most all planters need a lighter soil mix? Not just stackable? Also, I understand your sentiment about tutorials, at least you explained why, but kind of a blanket statement. Each person has their own way some with little experience, and some downright boring. I’ve learned to move along without comment generally yet I have moments when I see misinformation and wish to correct. Most just don’t care or don’t bother with finer details. I endeavor to come across as kind at least but here it’s difficult. Why dont you do one?🙏🏻🤔
