I took into account of what people have been saying in videos related to yours and it makes me want to reinvent myself in terms of my direction in storywriting. I'm a complete amateur in this but I've always had a creative mind for stories & characters since a child. I have this story that I've been holding for years but I have been pushing it aside, adding new info, pushing it aside again, returning to it since several months & changing the story a lot. I've been so focus on the future on my story so much as well that it got in the way. I ended up losing sight of what great things I could do before I get to that point, which resulted in writer's block on where I could make my start compelling enough. Sorry for the rambling lol, just watching videos like these gave me interest & the steps that I need in order to make great content. Your character "Ceazar" looks looks awesome btw!
Joel Pirela I am literally the exact same way. I am steadily on my way to my 18th birthday, meaning my comic needs to at least have its 1st chapter done by then, yet I'm still not good enough for this daunting task. I try everything I can to improve. Anyway, yeah, I keep getting to ahead of myself, and I don't know what to do in between certain moments. Do you have any tips you could give me?
Zonal Virus Wow, same boat bro! I know your comment was a year ago but I’m almost 18 and have been holding this story inside my head for years. Though I want to get better at art before starting. How has yours gone?
@@zonalvirus6715 same here. I have a manga I wanna start but I’m busy trying to make a story and I keep adding things and removing them and getting stuck, but we’ll get through this. The problem is is that we are trying to make the perfect story. Let’s just make a story we want to feel good about and be happy that we made it, and soon enough we’ll all come out with masterpieces
Dude you are an inspiration to anyone not japanese wanting to create japanese style comics! I've been developing a comic for a few years now that is finally getting the point where I'm happy enough with my drawing abilities and story to begin drawing the pages themselves.
I know I'm late (by two years😅) but that's awesome!! It's nice to know that someone with a similar situation to mine own is feeling the confidence to draw! I hope you're very successful with your project and I hope I can get to where you are one day! I guess you can say you're my inspiration!😋 Anyway I wish you luck!
I also like to plan where the series will end out. It takes a bit effort, but if someone doesn't want to create a 500+ chapter series it's pretty good.
For the beginning you have to make sure the first page is interesting enough that the reader wants to read on. You can do this by setting the story in a cold open, in the action, or just make it introduce the concept. Then you wanna make sure you introduce the main character and they're life as is and show how the story starts and what initiates the story. In other words what is that, "but then one day..." after the "once upon a time there was a...". So introduce, then kick off the story, but also make it interesting right away.
you need to understand what character do you want to create if its an excentric, cocky, rich boy you wont put him into sweatpants and dirty shirt, if it's and insecure,shy,anti-social girl you wouldn't put her in short skirt and see-trough top right? what time is it is it present, past, future ?
Way late but you should also take into consideration where the characters live. Example, if they live in a cold climate they'd most likely wear heavy clothing and multiple layers as opposed to characters that live in a tropical climate who would wear thinner clothes and less layers. Also if the characters are travelling to other countries or continents(anywhere with a different climate), their clothing will change to suit.
For my “manga” the main characters are all intergalactic space alien chics so I throw on gear that would help them in combat yet make them look stylish to appeal to the public and be loved by the masses.
as for designing characters, it really depends on the world you're building. for naming, I suggest looking for names' meanings. also when naming, take into consideration the character's ethnicity and nationality.
I agree with you. When I first come up with an idea for a chapter, I try to make it different from previous chapters. By either having a new location or new characters. This isn't necessary, but it makes each chapter more memorable. And I think it helps new readers getting into the story. Spices things up.
That can also be done by adding twists or giving set backs to your characters. By that I'm saying that your story will be more interesting if your characters have to overcome obstacles.
This makes a lot of sense. When I plan chapters I always want there to be something that happens. Something that excites the reader or at least makes them remember the chapter distinctly. I feel like every chapter should leave a cliffhanger of some sort. Doesn't necessarily have to lead to the next chapter but it should bring the reader back hungry for more. So yeah. Great video man. And I'm diggin' the character design!
Love, love, love all your stuff! Thanks so much for the videos, they're not only interesting but helpful and insightful. Love your art style also, its got such a lively flow and relatively realistic look to it. Keep up the great work!!

+Whyt Manga oh nice, you're one of the few youtubers that actually respond. I actually just got a premium sub for SatAM and I'm loving it, AppleBlack and Z Forever are my favorites so far, and I know you'll get big man, it has to happen soon.
@Whyt Manga -It's a little difficult for a chapter to be "stand alone" when, in my case, it is part of a greater graphic novel effort. In my case, I have tried to make each chapter an arc as well as any subarc in the overall timeline of the story and use the chapter ending to resolve the principal arc in such a way that it is a punctuation mark to move on to the rest of the story (and since it is a science fiction/space opera retelling of Great Britain's war with Nazi Germany, I use a relevant brainy quote, usually from Churchill to finish the last panel). You cannot read Chapter 4 -The Hinge of Fate without reading the Prelude, Chapter 1 The Gathering Storm, Chapter 2 Their Finest Hour, Chapter 3 Triumph and Tragedy, nor can you read the penultimate Chapter 5 Closing the Ring or the final chapter 6 Darkest Hour without having read all that came before. Might you have any thoughts about the development of chapters when they are subdivisions of a larger extent work? Takers?

Always ALWAYS write down the story first. then write what happens in the first about 10 chapters. Best is to roughly know how the story ends. Then plan out the pages of the first chapter and make rough drafts of the panels. THEN you can start with the actual drawing. Planning is really important. You don't want to notice something off and have to redo pages. Or when you come up with a better idea you can't change it anymore. You have to think about your story until you are satisfied with it, otherwise you will look back and dislike it. (small changes still could occur) This can be a big pain but in the end you will be glad you did it that way... If you don't wanna write so much you could record yourself while talking about the story (and then you could additionally take short notes of your speech) Well I hope I helped you a bit and good luck with your idea!
