@Tally Ho just to clarify, you can hear the same amount of fan noise during idle and non-intensive tasks as you do when you're doing video editing work (except rendering of course, which is more understandable)?? As a potential buyer on the top of the line iMac 2020 that's a bit odd and quite alarming to me.
Is it worth it to upgrade to Pro 5700? I want to live stream full HD with two cameras into OBS . Will the 5500XT be good enough for that task?
i still run a 2013 27 inch maxed out imac since 2013. Cleaned the fan and changed the thermal paste this year (it was super super dirty) but the computer is still super fast. Has a 2tb ssd internal. Still can do 4k 60 fps edits with color grades. super happy with it

Mine was only slightly noisy the first day. I think it was because Spotlight was indexing all the file of my external 2 TB disc. Now it just flies and it’s dead quiet. I agree that the keyboard feels plasticky, I put a couple of wedges under it because I think it’s too flat.
@Tally Ho - hey mate when did you first notice the horizontal white line flicker? How long after you received the iMac did it appear, as some members in MacRumors are saying they saw it happen even during the iMac setup screen.

6:50: AppleCare is pretty much non-optional with new apple products. I have only had my 16" MacBook pro for about 10 months but have already had the warranty cover 3 major issues. The warranty paid for itself many times over, particularly on an apple product that cannot be repaired by the user.
Does this iMac support Win 11 on boot-camp or stuck at unofficial Win 10?
Don't know if you've seen them yet, but when I put Windows 2004 maintenance on my 2020 iMac 5K, new drivers showed up for the 2020 iMac.
You need to boot into Windows using Boot Camp to install them.
Is core i7 10750h good for gaming performance or core i7 10875h ? Because I am having a really hard time choosing between these two processors for my new laptop ?

The soldered on board SSD is a serious issue! It will cost A LOT to replace when it dies or you need to upgrade it...
Why do you use this iMac for video editing when you own a faster PC (mentioned in your earlier video)? I ask because I'm facing the decision between this iMac versus faster PC hardware.
Oh mate. Put me near a gaming machine and that’s all that will happen. For me I actually use my laptop more as I have had spine surgery and prolonged sitting or standing kills my back. Slouching on a couch with a laptop and my back is fine.
The reality is you could go either way. It really makes no difference unless you want final cut. I actually have been using that a bit lately because Pro Res Raw crashes in Premiere.
The other reason is I feel this is something that goes back a while but I feel software makers of Video editing programs and Music DAWs use Macs more. They sort of treat the PC as a second class citizen. I mean have a look at all the demos of Premiere, resolve ect. They all use Macs. I Guess they started on them.

Had my iMac 3 months now and it's driving me crazy...Really glitchy...Images blink, the sound is terrible through my Denon amp and Jamo c809 speakers. but iv'e kind of fixed that by tweaking the hz in midi...I bought the 3.8gz 8 core i7 with 16gb and the radeon Pro 5500xt 8gb..... Iv'e tried Vram and control reset...Iv'e wiped it and reinstalled and it seems fine for a few days, then starts getting glitchy again....Iv'e owned Macs since the G3 and they've all been great G4, G5, G5 intel, and this is my third iMac...I bought Apple care and iv'e trouble shot with them...They even replaced the first one they sent me....I think perhaps it could be Big Sur that's the issue....Anyway, enough of my rant...Great video.

Mate. It works great with the S1H footage Pro Res Raw of the internal h.265. The i9 won’t be better than the i7 as Metal is being used for most the playback but render it will be slightly faster
Tally Ho Tech was I wonder what the odds are we get a firmware update to utilize the i9 better in metal considering they are still making intel machines for a year or so. I went with 16GB graphics, upgraded 64GB of ram myself, i9, 1TB and gigabit.
It comes in today but I’m wondering if I should send it back to save the $400 on the i9

I believe this has been updated/resolved. I have this iMac with the 5700xt. No issues. My only gripe is the fan but then again, get used to it, it's not bad. I also have my MBP M1 Pro as a laptop and tend to use that one a lot as well. Still loving my 2020 Intel iMac though. When I compared to the first gen M1's MBP, this intel iMac is way faster. Comparing it to the M1 pro or Max is a different story. It can go head to head but definitely uses more energy/power. I really think the M1 ultra or the M2 and above can beat this intel iMac with the 5700xt. It's a beast!
the navi drivers are just crap. the 16" MBP and Mac Pro with the W5700X have numerous issues as well
You can speed the mouse up with terminal command! Got mine running at 12 I think

Good points. I have no doubt if they did put 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports they would have nixed the memory self update capability. I have an I9 2019 model and the fan doesn't run when I'm surfing the web. Also no T2 chip so no glitches.

Hey Tally, could you please check thermals of the new iMac with external display connected, I've a macbook and it works fine without a monitor, the time a plug an external monitor and start playing videos it starts throttling, it's been like that on my macbooks since 2015, and I'm really afraid that happens on iMac I'm losing faith on apple :D
I have tested this in a previous video. You lose ~15W of sustained power when you have an external monitor. As for the noise and temps. Much the same. I guess the reduced CPU power makes it around the same

The MacBook Pro 16 new graphics option for me simply crashed the computer every time I pushed it. Mainly because the fans would not kick in until the cpu reached 95 and GPU 86, Then the new update come, installed and all is good. Seems apple are not testing products before release? The Software is older than the new model which is really bad as they should be releasing new OS X in line with their products. I would expect drivers for new iMac to arrive shortly and a fan curve edit.

Tally Ho Tech the 16 inch with i9 and AMD 5600M. Problem of graphics crash under load replicated in both OSX and Bootcamp until the latest update which fixed the issue. Diagnostics said nothing wrong with hardware. Believe from this that apple put in the graphics cards without correct firmware or drivers being in OSX at the time. Hence fix a month on. They really should warn people or map their OS X release/ firmware updates to coincide with hardware updates.

Good video as always mate. The iMacs have always suffered with the idle fan noise, really surprising from Apple with their silent laptops. I have the 5700 and don’t get and graphics glitches so wonder if it is just the 5700xt?

I received mine few days ago with 5500 grafics and i7 .....i was editing yesterday 5-6 hours plus today 4-5 hours and i did not see any glitch. So hopefully is not gonna be there....i did not buy apple care.

According to the poll in the macrumors.com forum, only the 5700 XT models are being affected by the glitch. The poll indicates no occurrences of the glitch with other GPU models.

The 10-core version will use the fans more... even in idle. Apparently the 8-core is actually better with benchmarks, heat and value.

@@KingNeu i have 8 core....editing video....h.265 from mavic air and 10bit 4k h.264 from panasonic s1 ....not a single stutter...it is very very solid performance (at least for video)
@@ondrejjanoska660 that's good to hear! I know for my use either or will be great but I just want to see the difference between the two. Also I plan on gaming/streaming on ps4 off an elgato and want to make sure i can do so at 1080p/60fps with no issues or having to down the quality.

If you’re worried. You will know straight away if it happens and return it if you are concerned. There is a big difference between the 5700 and XT variant. 36 CU vs 5700 XT has 40 CUs and 16GB RAM.
I’m not worried it will get sorted.

Great video. First time viewer here. I will be subscribing! I have a 5k iMac out with the high end graphics card. I am concerned about the graphics card glitch. For those of you that experience it , how often does the glitch occur? And does it occur randomly in your experience , or is it related to a specific task?
Do you have the 5700 XT? That's the one with the Issue. It happens rarely randomly and sometimes you can be working most the day on the imac and you won't see it
Tally Ho Tech I do have the 5700 XT. It will be arriving shortly. I am quite concerned about the graphics card now - I was already hesitant because of Apple soon going with their own chips, but I needed a new computer for video editing and couldn’t wait anymore.

@@TallyHoTech It was too loud for me, and the i9 wasn't consistent in its frequency. The i7 version has a better efficiency for audio workstations it seems. But i had already ordered the i9... And for that price, i'm expecting a little more... I'm staying with my silent hackintosh. I'll be a little patient for what comes in the future.
The I9 10 core is a better processor if your doing music go for the I9 and install the RAM yourself.
When you run RAM at their xmp, you void your intel guarantee... so 2666 it is...
It can’t go more than 2666MHz and 2933MHz is not XMP. That stock intel

Looks like Apple just being cheap and use up their 2666 ram supply or they have a big issue of heat management at higher ram speed? Anyway, I gotta order the new 2020 imac to see how it fair. Currently running amd 3950x hackintosh and it’s a dream.

I noticed the screen glitch as well. My imac has the Radeon Pro 5700 xt with 16 gb.
Hopefully it gets sorted. The fan though is what it is

I have never ever liked the Magic Mouse... ever! I remember back in the day - over a decade ago working in a creative agency that was so pretentious, they were almost offended I brought in my Logitech, simply, because it was a different colour!
As for fans, let's be honest when people use the new Bionic ARM 13 or defo 14 chip they wont want to touch Intel's near obsolete 14nm or at best 12nm architecture ever again. Also let's be clear, the developers are already 3 months into developing for the ARM chip and time fly's by. Before we know it Rosetta will be an after thought. Apple and AMD will drive Intel to extinction at this rate - then there will be no need for loads of money in R&D for thermal architecture. Those cost cuttings will be put into saving for the consumer and the bi-product will be many more shipments of those respective devices.
That’s years off. Avid Media composer base light, pro tools Ableton. These intel Macs and the first wave of Apple Silicon Macs will be EOL before all those Apps feature complete and plug ins are Apple Silicon ready. Safe bet is intel for at least 5 years. Remember big industry where with all the workstations. Where all the money is, move really slow. I can see lots of them still using current Mac Pros in 5 years.

Only reference we have is Power Pc to intel which I lived through and I got the first intel iMac, MacBook and Mac Pro. G5’s and software were easily good for 5 years and the first intels Macs were tired by time the transition was fully complete.
@@TallyHoTech We can't compare 15 years ago in terms of the transition evolution to today. There are many many developers on Twitter saying they are in X-code and the transition is no problem - also Rosetta is far superior. Mark my words end of 2021 people won't even look at Intel again - all Ryzen and Apple Bionic unless Intel MASSIVELY up their game and jump up 7 gens of NM architecture in 2 years, wont happen. As I say... we'll see!
It’s the only thing you can compare with literally. The rest is just speculation. The Mac was more important back then and the pace of silicon upgrade was must faster. Now the Mac is not as important and incentive to change quickly over is not there like it was with the intel change over.
