'Fine' has been one of my favorite songs ever since the very first time I watched it, wishing it had subs. The MV ALWAYS breaks me at that one break in the song; I can't stand to see her cry, she has been through a lot. The emotional impact made it memorable and watchable on repeat. Easy to love that one. 'Something New' has been one of my favorite music videos since the very first time I saw it. The title promises and the MV delivers; an ACTION movie from our tiny sweetheart? AWESOME! LOVE it! "And now, the breakdown:" is an SM thing. You heard it in a few songs already. The most memorable for me (besides 'Something New') was from (Girls On Top) GOT The Beat 'Stamp On It'. Four Seasons is really such a masterpiece and it's a song that shook Korea too in 2019!! If you want a little backstory, the song got released on a Sunday at the time of her encore concert so she sang it live for the fans there who couldn't yet listen to the studio version or watch the mv. Despite being a Sunday release, the song debuted at #6 on Melon (the main music chart in SK) and climbed to #1 in only 3 hours!! It also debuted with over 1 million unique listeners on the platform. It's usually uncommon for weekend releases to do that well on charts but this was so amazing it had everyone entranced! The song also charted for over a year on the daily chart and still charts in the top 300 until today. That year everyone who watched the mv was also going crazy over how aesthetic it is!! Everyone was saying how you could take a screenshot at any random moment throughout the mv and it would be screenshot worthy😭😭
I LOVE her Something New album, must be in my top 5 I am telling you guys right now her live performances are so worth it. It's like she ate CDs TT I was never really interested in soloists even if I am a fan of SNSD but Taeyeon has a special special voice and a lot of us know it. She's also a perfectionist because of it, she knows her voice is divine but the responsibility from the expectations she takes it so seriously. The "and now the breakdown" is familiar because it was used in Lee Chae Yeon's Hush Rush which is a shame because musically it didn't fit they way it does in this track and to me it just sounded recycled (Love Chaeyeon and her music to bits). I think the difference between Taeyeon's live version of Fine and the MV is that the MV sounds more intimate - both great versions ofc. Two other Taeyeon tracks I highly recommend are her Japanese single "Voice" and her cover of Nell's "Time Spent Walking Through Memories" - there was a song on her Killing Voice that was written for her by Kim Jong Won of Nell, which you liked a lot ...so there's a good chance you'll love the Nell cover too. Also, Four Seasons might be my favourite track ...hard to pick, but I listen to it almost every day.

if you're curious about what she says on the phone call at the beginning of 'Fine': she's basically on the phone with someone, presumably her ex, and she asks "what did you do yesterday?" and proceeds to talk about how she had read a bit but felt like there was a lot of time left in the day, like she was missing something. there's an abrupt cut and she just says "no-" with a stuffed nose, which leaves a bit of interpretation as to what the ex may have said as a response to her on the other end of the line. then she kinda just goes "i don't even know why i'm talking to you", sighs and finishes with an "okay/i get it" followed by a "be well/have a good life/take care" my personal interpretation of this is that this phone call maybe happened in the close days after the breakup, which would explain why she has a stuffy nose from crying and why, when she wants to talk to someone about her day, the first person that comes to her mind is still him. also would explain her frustration (as she says herself in the lyrics of the song, "like a fool") with "i don't know why i'm talking to you", as if she wants to let go but still can't help but hold on because them together had been all she had ever known so far. also, the scene in which there's the director's cut is supposed to be the filming of this music video itself, as we see her lip-syncing to the lyrics before the cut happens and there's other scenes of her in the studio that are used for the mv later on. it was as if to say that her singing about her last moment with him (the lyrics at the moment of the cut) still brought too many memories, it was still too fresh (at least in her heart). it's almost a statement to how hard it must have been for her to film this music video/sing this song/write these lyrics

She always nail it, her live voice with band, dance performances and her visuals combined with her personality = ideal match
if you're curious about what she says on the phone call at the beginning of 'Fine': she's basically on the phone with someone, presumably her ex, and she asks "what did you do yesterday?" and proceeds to talk about how she had read a bit but felt like there was a lot of time left in the day, like she was missing something. there's an abrupt cut and she just says "no-" with a stuffed nose, which leaves a bit of interpretation as to what the ex may have said as a response to her on the other end of the line. then she kinda just goes "i don't even know why i'm talking to you", sighs and finishes with an "okay/i get it" followed by a "be well/have a good life/take care"
my personal interpretation of this is that this phone call maybe happened in the close days after the breakup, which would explain why she has a stuffy nose from crying and why, when she wants to talk to someone about her day, the first person that comes to her mind is still him. also would explain her frustration (as she says herself in the lyrics of the song, "like a fool") with "i don't know why i'm talking to you", as if she wants to let go but still can't help but hold on because them together had been all she had ever known so far.
also, the scene in which there's the director's cut is supposed to be the filming of this music video itself, as we see her lip-syncing to the lyrics before the cut happens and there's other scenes of her in the studio that are used for the mv later on. it was as if to say that her singing about her last moment with him (the lyrics at the moment of the cut) still brought too many memories, it was still too fresh (at least in her heart). it's almost a statement to how hard it must have been for her to film this music video/sing this song/write these lyrics
