In Central Indiana where we play so many schools are investing in artificial turf for Varsity fields and leaving the natural fields for JV and below. March and April are so bad here you are fighting cold weather, rain, snow and ice. Artificial has it benefits but never beats a well built and managed natural field - with a good crew to maintain it. The committed crews have their Varsity field as natural and a backup artificial field for JV and bad weather Varsity games. Nice work here Pete, we can use more of you here in Indiana.

Heck, in college in Central Indiana during end of March & into April we would practice in an abandoned grocery store parking lot. In high school we played on fields full of stone and huge lips. Lots of cupchecks and baseballs to the face for our infielders.

The Ventrac Is a far heavier machine. The ABI is available with a laser leveling system and is narrower to get thru gates and tight areas since its basically a zero turn mower. The ABI puts your eyeballs looking forward and down at the blade, so there is no guessing about what is happening with the ground engaging tools. However, it does not have a dump bucket! To get that you would have to add a mini-skid. Need to turn a lumpy field into a billiard table? Then the ABI with the Laser is your answer. Need to re-contour? Then start with the mini-skid. Need a slope blade? Now you are talking motor grader or bulldozer. Got a subsoil with hard spots? Now, its scraper time. The Ventrac needs bigger trailers and more room to work. Got projects on double digit slopes? Ventrac.
