As for my dad's newer Sierra, that thing is complicated af and plastic is everywhere lol. It's the build quality, son.

    Hmmmm...let's see...I paid $7,200 cash for my 02 Duramax, which had a straight pipe, duramaxtuner controller, and enough power to pull down my house. Not to mention it had flawless interior and exterior. I added a $200 touch screen stereo with navigation, and some cheap Kicker speakers. When they get in at night, they don their silk pj's and robes.....sit down to a "dinner" of foi de gras and the finest champagne. Their horses float off the ground since they can't tolerate dirt either. This guy is a piece of work.

    I had the exact same truck, an '02 Chevy Duramax - extra cab long bed. It was an early Duramax with 300hp and 500 ft. lbs of torque which was enormous back then. It was very reliable and comfortable. I constantly checked my side view mirrors because with the addition of a weight distributing hitch, I barely felt the trailer behind me. I added a tuner (chip) and picked up some more power and I still managed 18 mpg HWY with a 6" lift. Diesel is the way to go and the Duramax has a record of reliable service. Great video!

  • @dieselmutt8865

    You are not "towing" the same weight but you are driving the same amount of weight down the road given both vehicles and the same trailer are being used in the test. The "gross combination weight" is the same.

    - lower emissions but higher fuel usage (GMC Sierra) or

    What if they removed the emissions junk, and instead focused on improving fuel economy, meaning that the lower amount of fuel used will result in less pollution and therefor removing the need for the emissions equipment?

    The 2002 duramax trucks have always been my favorites. My dad has a 3500HD that has just over 106,000 miles so it has a while to go. Hasn't done any major work to it engine wise but over the summer we had to put some money into it. We cut out and replaced the old rocker panels since they rusted out and put new and stronger ones in. Then scaled 46 pounds of rust off of the frame and had it undercoated. Then had that eggshell type covering on the rocker and door panels. I don't know what that covering is called but it reminds me of it for some reason. I think some know what I'm talking about. My dad refuses to spend $60-$70K on a new truck and I don't blame him.

    It gets worst for the GMC. It requires DEF, which isn't too big of a deal, but it's still an added cost and a chore that Andre never sees with his Chevy. There's also the DPF, which regenerates every now and then, lowering overall MPG. Then there's the problem with emissions controls. All that emission crap is complicated, they diminish reliability, they reduce longevity, and it all can easily get very, very expensive to repair when it all starts failing.

    I love my 05 2500 HD. Just spent $2500 getting rocker panel rust repaired/replaced. Got 250k miles. Towed about 80-120k of those miles(10-14k pound camper). Probably spent 10-15k deleting, replacing front end parts, and an alternator. Original fuel injectors. Deleted at 120k miles. Love it.
    Bought it in Jan 2007 for 28000. Blows my mind that you can't get a base model F150 for that price now. I'll be keeping it until the wheels fall off.

      @hamdanalharbi2206 8 лет назад +1

      +Tim O depends on the truck. some research actually showed that putting the tailgate down increases the drag with decreases the mpg. things like bed cover, a small spoiler ( not like those on the sport cars) on the tailgate or a spoiler on the top of the crew cab help reduce the drag on trucks. how much reduction you ask? can't say it depends on how aerodynamic the truck is.

    • @joshs6405
      @joshs6405 8 лет назад

      Testing with the tailgate up is actually more aerodynamic. And who cares about the box cover making a difference. Remember the pos piece of plastic under the front bumper on the new truck? Plus, the whole design of the new one is meant for aerodynamics.

    OK guys, this is all you need to know. I run 13k miles a month in a 2002 dodge 2500HD. 6 speed, Cummins. I routinely pull a 30 foot Osprey long cabin on a 3 axle trailer, grossing 22k pounds total. I'm little Cummins gets 14.2 miles to the gallon between North Carolina and the Canadian border. I rolled the odometer over three years ago, and I'm now at 360k again. Id love to have a new truck, but I haven't found one that can top this old work horse.

    • @midtennturney

      +Ian Turney Yes, in 2004. I deliver boats. I bought this truck brand new, and have average 13k miles a month for 15 years with just a few breaks in the hardest part of winter. The body is about to rust away, but the engine and transmission are only about 40 percent warn according to the oil analysis. I run a low micron oil filter, and 3 stage fuel filters. keep it clean, and a diesel will run forever.

      +Ian Turney Record for a car is like 6 million. Don't ask me how but some dude has a jaguar he's been tooling around in since the 60s. I paid dearly for this truck, and I've worked it hard. But I do all I can to maintain it. I just cant bring myself to pay 60k dollars for a new ram. The seats aren't even comfortable. It is kinda funny to see me pick up a 150k dollar Mastercraft wake-board boat at the dealer on a truck worth less than it's trailer. But I do it every week.
