- This is a Muzak news spot from mid 1973 made by CBC News in Toranto, Canada. A great old documentary that reminds you of a dearly missed time in history.

Just Muzak 2022
They say a lot of crap about Muzak, mostly that it was "mind controling". I just love it.
Muzak was played on GO Trains, when GO Transit was first launched, in 1967. But the Muzak was soon removed, because of complaints from passengers, most of whom were businessmen, who commuted in and out at the same times every day. They soon got fed up with hearing the same songs, in the same order, twice a day, every day, 5 days a week, until the tapes were changed at the end of the month.
i thought they would have a more sophisticated method than that
what size tapes were they?
@@hispy2371 my guess would be 7 inch because the 14” tapes were the size of washing machines
So every train had a tape deck on it?
@@The4MusketeersYT Wasn’t the same method used for those airline tapes?
Now when I was at Northside School, they had
Muzak in the lunch room.
I asked if it was a radio broadcast.
"It's music that comes over phone wires, and we get music which comes through WVOR!!!" Mr Ambush said.
"It's an affiliate radio station that comes through WVOR!!!" Mrs.
O'Donovan said.
I was in the lobby of Northside Hospital, and I heard Muzak in the lobby.
"You want it turned up??
You can barely hear it!!" the nurse said, and she did.
"Muzak, Dad!!" I said.
"That's us!!!" Dad said.
"It's one of our sidebands that you're listening to right now!!! You saw those machines, remember??
I took you up there, and Ralph Rogers showed you how those Muzak machines operated!!! They had that round speaker built in to the machines, which the Muzak came from!!" Dad said.
it must have been fun seeing behind the scenes in real time. wish i was alive to experience it then
This is perfect thank you.
I was in Friendly's with Mom.
I heard the hollow sound of Muzak from a speaker in the ceiling.
I asked if it was a radio broadcast of some sort.
"It's music that comes over phone wires!!! We get something like a big station which has no deejays or any ads!!" our server said.
"You know all about it, honey.
Remember, your papa took you to the radio station, and he showed you how Muzak was broadcast throughout the stores and restaurants???
One room!!!" Mom said.
"WBBF was also one room, too!!" I said.
"In the FM station, it was one room, and a huge record library.
Now back down the hall was the other side, which had a couple of rooms and an engineering department, which also looked right in to the main room for the AM side, or
BBF 95!!"
Steve said.

I need more clips like this! This is great thanks for uploading!
If anyone cares, the elevator seen at 0:10 is an Otis with touch sensitive Lexan buttons and an IEE (Industrial Electronic Engineers) floor indicator.
actually yes, i do. i like the warm look of the display
@@The4MusketeersYT I’ve never seen an Otis with a square IEE display before, they usually had a round faceplate. I think that square ones were mainly found on Westinghouse elevators, but I’m pretty sure that this is an Otis based on the door close, open and alarm buttons. Or alternatively, the shots inside the cab could have been filmed at a studio and they used a real Westinghouse to film the indicator. Who knows.
Thanks for uploading! Do you know what's the name of the song in the beginning?
Please Help Me, I’m Falling (In Love) by Nick Perito. we’re currently looking for the tape with the original audio (by nick)
@@The4MusketeersYT Oh no... I meant the violin part when the speaker was saying "It's in the air, almost everywhere"
@@toi1111 yes, thats an arrangement by nick perito. the second piece is Bill Bailey, Won’t You Please Come Home.
@@The4MusketeersYT I see now, thanks!
@@toi1111 you’re welcome, glad i could help.
Background music:
0:00 and 3:41 - "Flattery" (Please Help Me, I'm Falling) - George Hermann Orchestra
1:01 "(Won’t You Come Home) Bill Bailey" - Sid Bass & His Orchestra
ruclips.net/video/isuZftZKc0E/видео.html
the first one goes by a different name but that is definitely the same melody as “Please Help Me I’m Falling”
@@The4MusketeersYT Omg yes it's finally been found!! Jane Jarvis and Earl Sheldon were frequent contributors to this library and I also love how the orchestra is from East Germany lol. Unfortunately I can't edit my original comment cuz youtube is stupid.
@@PneumatinisPlaktukas15 lemme unpin it then it should be editable
@@PneumatinisPlaktukas15but this poses a new question, flattery was released in 1977, but this documentary was released in 1973. So what’s the deal with that
@@GaytanLaytan It could be an old recording that Mozart Edition chose to release in 1977
