    I am not sure if these would have actually changed my purchasing decision, the 2017 Honda Civic is pretty awesome, but it would have set my expectations accurately.

    4:00 rev hang is actually a great thing for both when you upshifting (holds turbo spinning) and downshifting (without double clutching). It is more smooth when you coupling clutch to rev up engine a little bit, not from idle.

    It dosent have a blow off sound because a open to atmosphere bov is just a waste of air when it could be used as recirculation to reduce turbo lag during shifting.

    Thanks for the video. I'm thinking of getting one as my next car.
    FYI instead of a blowoff valve, it has a recalculate valve that puts the excess air back into the intake instead of venting it to the engine compartment. My WRX has one

    I didn't realize the sport touring was available in manual. it was my understanding the sport was a dressed up LX model with manual 6 speed, and the Sport Touring is a dressed up EXL with CVT and paddle shifters.
    I say this as a Honda PDI technician. I am the guy that preps all the new cars at a Honda dealership. I can find no way to.purchase the car that you have. If you want manual transmission and a turbo engine you get a lowgrade radio and no navigation as a Sport model hatchback ., or you get a CVT. with all the extras as a Sport Touring.. Manual transmission not available with a bells and whistles package.

      All Canadian-Spec Civics are better equipped than their US equivalent. For example, in the US, the Sport is based on the (US) LX. In Canada, the equipment level is on par (and more) with the EX-T Sedan. (Same with the Si BTW)
      And yes, the Sport Touring is available with Manual Trans in Canada (My wife drives one)

      There may be a difference between the hatchback and a real "trunk". You don't want a hatch to pop open accidentally, but a trunk opening isn't really a problem.

    Not into tactile displays. That last thing I need is another thing in a vehicle to distract me. So to compensate I just don't get the display and simply use a third party bluetooth receiver and tune my radio in to it and just keep it on that station when I want to listen to playlists on my mobile cellular telephone. Mostly I just listen to the radio though. Heh. Great video. Thanks for the mini tour and info.

    I installed a Mugen shift knob on my 2017 6MT ST Civic Hatch. Just buy the proper boot adapter off Amazon for cheap. Take the trim pieces off and cut the zip tie holding the stock chrome boot ring and install the new adapter. With this set up I can now install ANY shift knob I want.

    I am so happy you made this video. I was just looking at the new 2018 Honda Accord with the 252hp 4 cylinder engine and a 6 speed manual or the 10 speed automatic if it shifts anything like my BMW M3 7spd DCT :) NOT!! But I will look at both. The reason I need a car soon is because I sold my M3 and I have owned 6 BMW's and I'm done with BMW and paying $50 to $80k. I use to sell Honda's and BMW's but I haven't sold these car since 2007 so a lot has changed for sure. Honda doesn't change very fast and does things only to keep up with Nissan, Toyota and all these makers including Hyundai get ALL of their high end ideas from Mercedes and BMW. One thing that I know Honda has that BMW or Mercedes does not have is when you the driver pushes the turn signal and the camera shows on the screen who's next to you. But all the real advanced things always really do come from the German's. A buddy of mine bought a M5 with Night Vision which many couldn't care less about but there are drivers that can't live without it. I had no idea that many people "hate" driving at night for many reasons and one of them is not seeing but also anxiety. Go figure. Anyway, this video is well done and funny to watch and I see you put some fun to it. So I just saw last week that the Civic Si is nothing to write home about so I was looking at the Civic Type R but good God it is ugly AF!!
    After watching your video and some consideration I am going to go ahead and do what most people do and is just get the 2018 even if there are going to be many problems with it for the people who but the first year models. Just like when the new iPhone 8 comes out, rest assured the phone will kick ass but within a few days people will bitch and moan about what's wrong with the smallest thing or how the color is a finger print magnet or how much it sucks to use the phone underwater. Due to your video, I am not going to buy a Civic Touring which was also on the buying list. Since today is the last day of the month, I was going to go into the dealer and go right before they close and get a new one below invoice. I sold cars for 10 1/2 years and these cars go for under invoice but the 2018 Accord will not.....Well at least for 3 to 6 months depending on how consumers buy up the car or not. ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR THIS COOL VIDEO!!

    Love the ending. Maybe some text list to go with your 9 points. Im looking for a car for my wife. Civic has some issues. 1 no mem seat, but supposedly thats a luxury feature. 2. Like the sports version in Aus but it doesn't come with built in nav for that model only in the VTi Lx model or touring in US. You need to use phones gps. No volume knob. That HVAC no buttons would annoy us as well. So we like features overall of the top spec, but the twin tail pipe of sports is better looking. Now looking at Hyundai i30 now. More conservative looking like a golf, but looks to be more conventional like inside with functions. Also with civic we do wonder the longevity of the central TFT screen. Whats wrong with physical dials. Less things to go wrong. Be a nightmare to fix screen, and costly if after warranty period.

      From my understanding, this generation has a different system to mount the boot to the shift knob, and that you would need a new shift knob compatible with the new mounting system. Boomba Racing has one, and I even think they have a video showing the disassembly and reassembly.
      ruclips.net/video/X4p9gRdPXK0/видео.html
      The threads are the same, but someone needs to come up with a separate mounting system to hold the boot to the shift knob if we are to use an old civic compatible shift knob.

    Did you get this from Campus Honda? I'm going to go test drive one this weekend. I'm not 100% decided on trim level yet, but probably the same as you have but with the CVT. I would consider the manual if I didn't have to drive in Colwood crawl traffic every day.
    Did you consider the Mazda 3 or any other sporty hatches? If so what made you decide on the Civic?

    • @grahamlancaster9587
      @grahamlancaster9587  7 лет назад

      Pointy End yes I did. I like the 1.5 turbo engine, a lot. That and the value in the trim package sealed the deal for me. My other considerations were Volkswagon and used BMW or Audi.
      New civic fit everything just right as a family/fun vehicle.
      Good luck with the new car.

    I have the coupe with the turbo and you can hear the turbo when you let off the gas after accelerating very easily.. even had some friends in it for the first time notice it right away and ask if it was turbocharged because they heard the blow off. Strange you say yours doesn't do it

    Do you have to press the key fob every time you want to open boot or do you just have to have key near it and the press unlatch button on boot itself. I don't have a problem with latter, but having to press key then the button on boot would be annoying. Maybe you could do a video on the 10 things you like. I like the cap less fuel spout. Have that on my Renault RS265. Its like you can fuel pitstop.

    • @grahamlancaster9587
      @grahamlancaster9587  7 лет назад

      Simon L great idea Simon. Maybe for one of my next videos. The trunk issue is a strange one. Normally pressing the trunk release on the remote would open the latch (on most cars), allowing you to open the hatch with your elbow, knee, hip, or any other way you can if your hands are full. I didn't see a point to having a button that only unlocks the trunk, yet you still have to use your hand to press the open button on the trunk.
      Btw, if the fob is near the trunk it will allow you to open without unlocking first.

    • @mindcrafte
      @mindcrafte 7 лет назад

      My RS265 is the same for rear proximity unlocking, but you still have to press button on boot and lift up. I think its all due to boot lid weight. Probably no gas struts strong enough to make it open enough unless motorised. The sedan version is lighter, so can lift up easier.

    • @grahamlancaster9587
      @grahamlancaster9587  7 лет назад

      Possibly. Still, I wish the button would unlatch it so that I could lift it without having to hit the button with my hand. Oh well, it is what it is, and it is pretty awesome.

    Becareful with lane departure if your the type of driver that don't or forget to signal before switching lanes it can really mess you up probably getting into a wrecked..so if your that type of driver I recommend it should be turn off..I almost wreck with lane departure on and the side mirror is just to damn big..I can't see where I'm going while turning left.

    I was really excited that they came out the the hatch in the turbo manual configuration the one I test drove was a lower model sport it had the same radio Set up as my brothers 2012 civic si which was kinda of disappointing, the power numbers sound good but it didn't feel quick even when you try to load the turbo I wanted to love the civic hatch so much but it just seems like Honda could've added more features or actual sport into it but I'm sure they made sure they left room on the table for the civic si and the civic type R
    I ended up getting a base 2017 wrx instead super fun to drive everyday especially dealing with traffic when you need the power it's there

      Edgar Vargas thx for watching. When I bought this car the SI was still 6 months away with no defined specs. I figured they would both use the same power plant and that a software update would get me si performance if I wanted. Other than that it was cheaper than the si.

    Hey Graham, just bought a new 2017 hatch ex-l w/ sensing and I noticed my volume slider on the steering wheel doesn't work. Searched the interwebs and it seems I 'm not the only one with this problem, however other countries civic hatch's seem to have the ability. I'm in the U.S. and no go. does it work for you or are you stuck with the pressing of the slider as well. Seems like an oversight by Honda. No mention of this in the manual. Thanks for any info.

    • @grahamlancaster9587
      @grahamlancaster9587  7 лет назад

      Mine also doesn't work as a slider. Sales guy said that the hatchbacks from the UK don't put this in. Kind of lame.

    • @go86go
      @go86go 7 лет назад +7

      how are you going to start on a steep hill smoothly? With a hand brake, you can release it slowly according to how much clutch/gas to give so you won't roll back.

    • @TheThomaswastaken
      @TheThomaswastaken 7 лет назад +1

      You hold the normal brake loose enough to slide backward while slowly engaging the clutch. When the car stops sliding, you've engaged the clutch enough to release the brake completely. Then gas in clutch out.

      How does the Honda sensing work on a manual? If you are using ACC, it can't shift gears and wouldn't the car die if it has to do an emergency stop with the CMBS?

    • @jcabralda
      @jcabralda 7 лет назад

      I was playing with the ACC the other day on the same car and trim. It really only works on the freeway. It can't vary the speed as much as if you were in a CVT but quite honestly - If you were to vary the speed that much you may as well be driving it. - However. I was able to downshift while the ACC was running. If you hold the clutch in too long - it turns off the ACC.

    • @shawnwinget2337
      @shawnwinget2337 7 лет назад

      Interesting. Kinda takes the utility out of the ACC. I have a touring sedan and ACC is hands down my favorite feature of the car. Just set it and forget it, never really need to manually slow down. I went to Seattle last weekend and there are several speed changes over the mountain pass. I like that as long as I'm behind another car, it adjusts the speed automatically. Does the manual have CMBS?

      better choice I think as the sport model isn't so well equipped if I'm not wrong? Although we haven't had an update on spec yet, I think we won't be getting manual here and the model you have will be badged as an RS.

    • @grahamlancaster9587

      Yes. The sport model was more sparsely equipped. The manual is big for me. Good luck with your upcoming new Civic. It really is an exciting vehicle.
