Just found your channel and I love your space. I'm in Central Texas also, and the hail and wind this morning shredded my garden. I am heart broken😢! I really hope your garden held up well because it surely is beautiful.
I’m in Houston and we’ve had a lot of rain too. Downright swampy late spring. My roses don’t know what to think. I should count my blessings. Last summer it was 2 months of awful drought!
I’ve heard that from many Houston gardeners. I hear you on counting those blessings after last summer. We’re grateful to have our lakes now full. I’m trying to learn how to be a better consumer of water and I’ve really enjoyed my rain tank (once I put it on a pump!). It’s been filled several times over this spring😝
Just found your channel and WOW!!! I’m actually mad at the RUclips algorithm for not bringing me here sooner. It’s hard to find really tidy and lush CTX Gardens- and you have done that so so so well!!!!! Going down a wormhole tonight.
Thanks so much for that compliment💗It’s definitely a work in progress but I really enjoy it! I appreciate you being willing to join the journey and I welcome your input🙌
I love and appreciate your videos. I'm in zone 8b as well in Belton. I watch your videos to get ideas on what to plant. I have to go out to see how much damage the hail did to my plants. Please keep giving us more videos.
Thank-you for taking the time to leave an encouraging comment and for the support. It means a lot, especially coming from local viewers. Appreciate you!
So happy it was a helpful tour! I found out that having the hardiness zone doesn’t give the full picture. Different regions in the same hardiness can have different climates. Also sometimes what is native in one region can be invasive in another. I found Washington state’s native plant society website for you:www.wnps.org/native-plant-directory I use a similar database for Texas native plants. I hope it inspires you even more😊
All your plants look great, not a fan of ligustrum but your Blackfoot daisies and purple skullcaps look awesome! The magnolia tree is so beautiful. Love the video, and variety of plants you use. Thanks.
Your ligustrum always have me in awe. I have two by a utility box that just don’t look good have no clue what I’ve done wrong but yours are absolutely stunning
Thank-you! Those ligustrum are so happy there. I’ve had one totally die in another location. The ones in this video get mostly morning sun with a small amount of afternoon sun. The other one was full afternoon sun. Not sure if that made the difference.
Oh, the crossvine is gorgeous! The red yucca is so pretty. I was driving through Dallas, and they have planted it along the middle of the highway for miles. It’s amazing!!!! Your Wright’s scullcap are #goals. Mine are so scruffy! 🤣 Honestly, you are the scullcap Queen! So pretty! I need you to come to Houston and sprinkle some of your magic on mine! I need to suck it up and trim back my mealy blue sage. You inspire me to just go DO IT! 🤣🤣 Putting Mexican oregano on my list right now! I had somehow forgotten about it. I grew it in Austin 30 years ago. Love the lizard!! What a cute little dude! Goodness, everything looks amazing! You inspire me to keep planting natives and trying new ones! Thank you for the wonderful tour!
I felt like those skullcap have only recently taken off. Makes sense being their second season now(they didn’t do much the first season). After the recent hail storm I feel like I’ll have to prune a lot back! Thanks so much for all the kind feedback! I really appreciate it!
I am grateful for all the room! Though my sister in law in Germany has a 650 sq ft garden that is absolutely charming 👉ruclips.net/user/shortsZ9rMxY_YzpI?si=E1L4ifoSYi-t8ltY
Hi ! I'm not at all from your area (south west of France) but I've appreciated looking at your natives and I loved the butterfly you showed us ! And even the lizard is different from the ones I see here ! Thanks for the tour :)
Thank-you for watching and sharing your location💗I’m always excited to see viewers from other countries. Interestingly enough, I’ve had several from southern France say they are looking for similar plants to our region given the climate. I appreciate you stopping by!🇫🇷🤠
@@theplantninja-texasgardener I do have some plants you are growing, such as the white sage, I love this plant ! I had it in a pot and decided to plant it in the ground so I'll see how it'll go :)
Everything looks beautiful! - I love lizards 🦎 For the shady spot you mention, maybe Coleus? Not native, but they are colorful and short. The first one I thought was Beauty Berry, but that i kind of tall for the place, and it doesn't have much color most of the year. Whatever you pick will be nice. Over here, I don't worry so much for 100% Native plants since everything takes so long to catch up, or the deer get to it before it even blooms 🤪
Thanks! I really enjoy my walkway. A couple of considerations: 1)if you have wood floors, the granite gets stuck in your shoes and can scratch the floor. I have tile, so it’s a nonissue for me. 2)my walkway is sloped and a lot of my granite washes out after heavy rains and I end up raking back in place. 3) if you have anyone thats got some difficulty navigating uneven terrain, this set up can be a challenge to level. I think a better long term solution would be an almost solid flagstone pathway that is mortared. I may end up going that route.
I haven’t tried any in a long while. I last grew them when I lived in Missouri and they were so lovely. They were in full shade though. Eventually I’m going to landscape the northside of my house and hydrangeas are on my list.
Your lemon bee balm is beautiful and edible. Win win!
I had no idea you could eat it! Let me know if you have any easy edible ideas!
@@theplantninja-texasgardener I use mine in salads. I have plain ole bee balm. The flower petals have a mild pepper flavor.

Oooooh!
Just drove through Dallas and got pictures of the highway lined with red yucca! (and a few other varieties!) I’m posting them on my channel!
🌸ENJOYED🌻
Thank-you😊
You should put American Beauty Berry in that spot that had the Turks cap, and I am so sorry for your loss!😢😢😢 6:19
You’re the second person to recommend beauty berry. I think I might go for it. My bird feeders are there and I’d bet the birds will love it!
Nice video tour!
Thank-you! 😊
Really lovely! Sure wish I had your space!

Hey Martha! Thanks for those suggestions! I’m loving all my new garden lizard friends.
Love your tours so much! What about a red buckeye in that 4-6 spot?
Girl, I so appreciate you💗 Thank you for the recommendation…I’m going to look that up ASAP🙌
Very nice video and tour. have you tried Datura wrighti? it is native, big striking white blooms that bees and moths like. seeds itself around.
I have heard this is a great trap plant to draw caterpillars away from your other plants! Do you know if it can take shade?
nice vid! How do you like your walkway with the flagstone and decomposed granite? Thinking of doing something similar

I am also in zone 8b. I am in Georgetown, TX. Do you have any luck with hydrangeas?

Or maybe a button bush?
Excited to check this one out too. Appreciate it!
