Recently came across a denon home theater had never heard one and i was lucky to pass by a shop they were advertising it ..had its two subs and four surround speakers....the sound was so clean and way too powerful for a home theater...even some P A and disco systems cant be compared to these Denon home theaters
Much thanks for your informative reviews. Can I ask why do you not power off the amplifier even when not in use? Do you leave it power on or in standby mode most of the time? Thanks again.
All old DENON products are good. Unfortunately i cannot say the same about their new stuff. With a great sorrow i think that the golden era of that company is over and there will never be such a quality products as they made in the early 90-ies. 😢
I think power MOS amplifiers are more reliable than bi-polar. Rock solid Hitachi MOS in my Kyrocera receiver since 1980, no thermal runaway, the reason, voltage gain works better than older current gain equipment.
Regarding robustness, the main difference between BJT and FET is that BJT has limited safe operating area, so the output devices need to be carefully protected against even moderate current when Vce is high. FET devices are only power-dissipation limited and therefore more rugged. But both types of output stages are current-gain stages.
Hey there, recently denon launched their 110 years anniversary model which is the newer model to the PMA 2500NE so i guess you should have a look at at as it has some upgrades including a good power supply
Dear Friend, Hello I was just about to put this Danon amplifier aside Because I bought Nime Audio/AMP/DAC and it's much, much better than Danon FOR FOCAL 1008 BE ELACTRA then I bought speakers B&W 801 S3 And suddenly I discovered this amazing amplifier just moving the loudspeakers with a huge power ....huge bass and amazing and awe-inspiring treble & MIDS Stage width and depth that probably would not have been possible without this amplifier Even so much power is barely 11 o'clock {In the previous format I used the DAP-2500A Pre Amplifier } Now only his PRE. My source SONY XA-50ES DCD-1650AR SA-11 S1 MARANTZ DCD-3560 DENON I also connected MIT MH-750 cables instead of VHD-122 which have accompanied me for another C-12 years since 1990 My amplifier has a logon problem suddenly for no reason jumps me to another IMPUT logon or clicks on Sony's RC and suddenly jumps from CD to tape e.g. I follow your movies you definitely have something to say about audio. Thank you IL Soon a short film was uploaded on the system
Hi @Tharbamar, I have a B&W 607 S2 speaker, and I currently own an Audiolab 6000a amp with a Chord Mojo 2 as a dac, and I really like the soundstage, the holographic sound, and the separation of instruments in the 6000a, but the 6000a lacked warmth in the midrange, and now I need a warm amp with big soundstage. and with dynamic holographic sound, I thought about the Denon PMA2000AE. What do you think? Will it give me what I want, or are there better options for my speaker under $1000?
Most metal-caps are on input sockets. This is for try or for believe because most of them are not at some Megaohms but shortened by 47kOhms inside. If the socket is an output socket, there is no use to shorten it. If you do, it depends, whether line output amp is of low impedance / high current (some high end preamps are, e.g. Symphonic Line), shortening may harm at high volume, when not designed correct (in case, nobody does short an preamp output by purpose, it‘s like shortening a power amp). But in most cases it doesn’t harm, most preamp outputs have still some 50 Ohm to 2kOhm output impedance.
Thank you for your relevant and concise reviews. Recently Denon has introduced the NE series .From the Japanese website and interviews given by the designer (sound master) the NE series marks a new beginning.Sound is following a vivid and spacious design thinking.Using the 600NE and it has great price/performance . If i have understood correctly as i cant read japanese but the diagram shows that all the NE series is a single stage amplifier. I have auditioned the 520AE and 720AE .The NE is a clear stepup while maintaining the best of the earlier models.and I would request you to consider auditioning the NE series .(Disclaimer : No affiliations)
After further translation to english from japanese from Denon Japan blog its good to know that the entry NE models are also designed /overseen by Takashi Arai San who did the SX design

Hi sir im one of your subscriber ask please i saw at Crutchfield website about denon pma 1600 ne need your advice please sir if this integrated amp is good in term of sound quality!? Right now im using a denon av receiver 800h connected to my CD player and Pro ject carbon dc turntable and my bookshelf speaker is triangle bro 3. Thank you sir and god bless!
Thank you so much for this question. I am also looking at the 1600NE since "the internet says" it offers a very close performance to 2500NE but for quite less of a price. However I see that I have several 2000AE and 2000R on the used market and paired with a DAC e.g like the Modi3 / topping D50 / SMSL SU-8, or even Node2, it then comes same price or even cheaper than a new 1600NE... which beggs the question , IS THAT A WISE STEP?, and what could be the major sound differences there? (Set aside the size differences and the fact you have more separates)
Hello. At first i would like thank you for this video. Im searching for new amplifier for my "Quadral rhodium 90" speakers. Because im using Denon PMA-710AE at now. Im interested in higher grade amps from DENON and pma-2000 looks pretty nice. As competitor to PMA-2k im considering ONKYO A-9000R which is little cheaper on our bazaar and looks pretty solid too. What is your opinion to ONKYO A-9000R and my whole dilemma? Thanks for answear. Stay safe
I do not have experience with Onkyo A-9000R to give you right advice, PMA2K series is overbuilt for the price back in the days, as you can see how much Denon is selling PMA110 in today’s market which is very same design with some upgrades, thanks
I have been considering spending around $2,000 to $5,000 on a amplifier. I may go this route instead. Did I see a video with you getting a newer amplifier? What are you currently using? Nice video, I like to see what's under the hood!
I enjoyed your review. I too appreciate Denon’s muscular, solid, dynamic sound. I recommend tower speakers though for a serious listener such as yourself.
I learned from your experience with this amp that one can never judge a component without 1st hearing it yourself. Should have known that before, feel kinda stupid that I fell into that trap!
@@Tharbamar i have 2, kinki studios EX-B7 monoblocks and EX-P7 preamp, and a sony ta-a1es integrated that i sometimes use instead. The monblocks are class a/b and the integrated is sorta class a. Sorry I didn’t understand which model you’re referring to, please include the model number you have to understand better but newer models have better pre stage but all 2000 series have same power supply design.
Hi, Any clue what power cable I can use with this unit? I was lucky to thrift this unit but don't have the power cable. I am willing to use one of your affiliate links if you can link me to one that would work properly with this unit. Thanks!
Not necessarily, I look for inside of any amp for quality of the parts and design, I would start from there., IMHO, for company like Denon can last for 100+ years and still top selling brand in home audio market means a lot to people like me as proven performer, all of their mid range to top end models were produced in Denon’s Shirakawa Audio Works in Japan, which they're very proud of it. thanks
@@Tharbamar thanks for the reply, appreciate it. I am looking into Denon amps lately most especially since you picked it over PS Audio and Luxman amps. I only have an Onkyo 9150 which is great but your videos got me curious about denon amps.
denon are great the only work you'll have to do is on the relays, cambridge audio use substandard caps and are prone to dry solder joints. marantz are similar to denon but can have transformer hum.
@@DueM thanks for the inputs. what baffles me is marantz is supposed to be the upscale sister company of denon yet the marantz vs denon amps ive heard at the same price point, marantz seem to sound inferior. (i used to have pm5005 and even my onkyo sounded a lot better)
What recommendations on stronger amplification the type of power that can drive most of the speakers out there with finesse. That to me is most important because I've changed speakers out many times and i prefer an amp to keep up with my pace, if i come across a speaker at a very good price i don't want to not get it because i have a bookshelf amp. I am about to upgrade my parasound a21 i haven't had any problems with it but it's time to move on. Something less than a used car.
Not very hard but not easy either because you have to take out front portion of it but for time being use AUX 2 which should stop it from acting it up.
Hi I saw a Denon PMA-2000R for sale online. The description said it was in good condition. The add said that everything is working like new except the phono stage selector. The ad says it makes a popping noise when you select MM or MC. After its selected no issues with the phono stage. Is the popping of the phoo stage fixable by any chance? Thanks!
What does the Denon sound like with the Wharfdale Diamond 225’s? I know you have reviewed them before. I love the look of these speakers, and are on my list to audition.
Nice. Power supply is strange. There are only two big caps for power stage. Parallel transformers? One for the preamp? There are very many Elma Silmic II high damped caps inside. Does it sound dynamic?
Tharbamar Just found schematics. Symetric +/-56V for the power amp. One big cap for + and one for - with no channel-separation. So there‘s one transformer for + and one for -. Uncommon.... Might be designed because space was long, but not wide enough for one transformer.
I would still go for 2000IV R for dual mono design personally, may be much better power supply as well. AS2100 is more comparable in my opinion. In their home market Yamaha AS-2100 and Denon PMA-2500NE (successor of 2000 series) are direct competition.
Man you sound so late back, I fell asleep listening to you a few times. Lol... But love your content & choices & in-depth knowledge of components. It really reflects from your reviews. Recently subscribed to your channel hope to see more stuff like this coming. You are changing my original impression towards Denon totally(of course my, impression came from 5 channel receivers from best buy) but I guess they are not limited to that only. I would love hear more about your recent purchase and shortlisted amplifiers. If possible can you share your opinion and comparison with Hegel and reason for why it didn’t made it to your top picks. Thanks once again! Be Safe!
Any one know that 2 transformer are mono design or 1 is for power amplifier section and 1 for the pre amplifier? I didn't find and information about this, thank you.
@@Tharbamar thank you, I have the 2500 but I still don't know the details. Ha ha You know what, I using a luxman CL88 vacuum pre amp and I bet the sound quality for me at least 20% better!! I used to use CL88 and MQ88 but now I keep the MQ88 in my garage and that Denon 2500 doing a very good job.
Model name is the same all over the world, PMA-2000 IVR was last available for 2006-7 in the U.S. after that they stopped selling here, but they released PMA-A100 (same innards) for 100 years anniversary model amp and that was it, your best bet is US audiomart or auction sites to find one.
magnetic speakers are mostly act as resistive loads whereas electrostatic speakers have a considerable capacitative characteristic, meaning they can store the electrecal enenrgy of the amplifier and send it back to the amplifier when the polarity of the signal that is fed to them reverses. Electrostatic speakers require high voltage, have impedences of several hundred ohms at low frequencies and possibly as low as 1 or 2 ohms at low frequencies (their impendence is inversely proportional to frequency). For these reasons, electrostatic speakers sound best and are less prone to cause damage when they are paired with amplifiers that are able to deliver high voltages as well as high current. I have of course simplified and generalized many things in my comment.

Recently came across a denon home theater had never heard one and i was lucky to pass by a shop they were advertising it ..had its two subs and four surround speakers....the sound was so clean and way too powerful for a home theater...even some P A and disco systems cant be compared to these Denon home theaters
This guy seems super nice!
I am still using my 35 watt STASIS NAKAMICHI RECEIVER! Plenty of power to drive KLIPSCH FORTE ONE SPEAKERS...
Get well soon Gene
I bought this series model in 2001 new.
No problem at all for 20 years.
I turned off power only couple of times, maybe that's why.
I like to leave them on as well, only turn it off while I’m out of town.
Thanks I will check them out but now I’m using SX-11 as my main amplifier.
Ya i love the way SX 11 sound love your setup
Dear Friend, Hello
I was just about to put this Danon amplifier aside
Because I bought Nime Audio/AMP/DAC and it's much, much better than Danon
FOR FOCAL
1008 BE ELACTRA
then
I bought speakers B&W 801 S3
And suddenly I discovered this amazing amplifier just moving the loudspeakers with a huge power ....huge bass and amazing and awe-inspiring treble
& MIDS
Stage width and depth that probably would not have been possible without this amplifier
Even so much power is barely 11 o'clock
{In the previous format I used the DAP-2500A Pre Amplifier
}
Now only his PRE.
My source SONY XA-50ES
DCD-1650AR
SA-11 S1 MARANTZ
DCD-3560 DENON
I also connected MIT MH-750 cables instead of VHD-122 which have accompanied me for another C-12 years since 1990
My amplifier has a logon problem suddenly for no reason jumps me to another IMPUT logon or clicks on Sony's RC and suddenly jumps from CD to tape e.g.
I follow your movies you definitely have something to say about audio.
Thank you
IL
Soon a short film was uploaded on the system
Merci beaucoup 🙏
I have the same problem with my Parasound (sound balance) but its not the amp, its the preamp, because when I put HT bypass on it goes away.
My p5 had the same issue after several repairs from parasound they replaced it with the new p6 and it was much better sounding too with no issues
Will it give me what I want, or are there better options for my speaker under $1000?
very well built
The Lexus of Japanese Audio. Totally agree with the Parasound comments !
Using parasound p5 pre and facing same issue.. unbalance sound between left and right channel..
Feeling cheated
Nice amp..old but one of the good ones.
Salute to you bringing us great reviews durring these trouble times you & family stay healthy been thinking about purchasing this amp..I will 🤙🤙
Please tell us the difference compare to SX11 !!
Yes for sure, thanks
Do you think a used PMA-2000 IVR will be better than a new PMA 1600NE ?
This is like audiophile ASMR.
How would you say this compares to the A110? I decided to purchase the A110 instead as it’s readily available in North America.
A-110 based on same design but much better quality than PMA-2000IVI series.
9:16 do those RCA metal caps short the terminals? I read somewhere they will do damage to RCA outputs if you accidentally turn on those outputs
It won’t get short because the one I use has no center pins.
I feel better now. Love your videos btw. Big fan.
How much of a difference is there between this and the PMA1500R?
Great intro, great video. You are good people. Thumbs up and subscribed.
I see there’s a few on eBay but not sure if I would trust buying one there
Thank you for your relevant and concise reviews.
NE series i mention is wrt the 600 and 800 models. You mention PMA-2500NE, February 2016 . So i infer this introduced in 2016 itself
2500NE is dual mono design with good power supply, I’m not sure about models below that, right now I have SX11 as my main amplifier, thanks
After further translation to english from japanese from Denon Japan blog its good to know that the entry NE models are also designed /overseen by Takashi Arai San who did the SX design
Hi nice video. What's the deferences with model pma200r? Thank you
Different generation and a little different in pre section.
Is there a difference with the 2000R and ifso, what are they? Thanks
2000IV series has improved Pre section compared to older models.
Neef You tot correct the timeline: there are 3 series now: the original 2000X-series, the 'AE'-series and now the 'NE'-series.
I have PMA 1600NE it sounds very smooth. If it worth to get another PMA 2000IVR in my system or any different comparison between PMA 1600NE and 2000ivr
It is very good sounding amp for the price and come with very good DAC as well, it will sound great with your speakers, thanks
Tharbamar, thanks a lot sir 😊 appreciate
Thank you so much for this question. I am also looking at the 1600NE since "the internet says" it offers a very close performance to 2500NE but for quite less of a price. However I see that I have several 2000AE and 2000R on the used market and paired with a DAC e.g like the Modi3 / topping D50 / SMSL SU-8, or even Node2, it then comes same price or even cheaper than a new 1600NE... which beggs the question , IS THAT A WISE STEP?, and what could be the major sound differences there? (Set aside the size differences and the fact you have more separates)
Nice amp👍 Any idea how it compares to yama as-2100?
I got this one, thanks

I enjoyed your review.
I too appreciate Denon’s muscular, solid, dynamic sound.
I recommend tower speakers though for a serious listener such as yourself.
Mine is a Technics SU-V900 , they both are on the same level?
I learned from your experience with this amp that one can never judge a component without 1st hearing it yourself. Should have known that before, feel kinda stupid that I fell into that trap!
What kind of Amp do you ave now?
@@Tharbamar i have 2, kinki studios EX-B7 monoblocks and EX-P7 preamp, and a sony ta-a1es integrated that i sometimes use instead. The monblocks are class a/b and the integrated is sorta class a. They sound very different, and i dont have a clear preference. My speakers are bowers and wilkins 702 s2s. I want to buy the denon you have but only if your experiment turns out good, or i will buy the new nad m33 integrated class d, very curious about the class d module in the nad.
I will make a post to answer all your questions about SX11 in a few days, thanks
I have the pma-a100 also a very good amp.
Appreciate your work. Good health to you!
Thank you.
I have the smallest model of all the pma2020 series, power consumption is the only one with 360W, 136W 8Om and as much as 247W. Supposedly better than pma2500. Because it doesn't have to give on board, it was only in cd USB b.. Is Denon pma2000IVr. Do you think 700 dollars but is it worth replacing pma2020 has pma200p
Thanks!
Hi, this amp seems great, is it possible to connect a subwoofer?
Yes there is pre out. Thanks
Pretty Beast......Thanks for this. Stay safe.
Thanks you.
would you say Denon is a safer choice among other "modestly-priced" brand like Marantz, Onkyo, Cambridge Audio?
Not necessarily, I look for inside of any amp for quality of the parts and design, I would start from there.,
IMHO, for company like Denon can last for 100+ years and still top selling brand in home audio market means a lot to people like me as proven performer, all of their mid range to top end models were produced in Denon’s Shirakawa Audio Works in Japan, which they're very proud of it.
Mu Sansui G-8000 is 40 years old and still going strong ! Its rated at 120 watts but it has weight to the sound !
Any hum from its transformers? No matter how small or negligible it is, is there any detectable by human ears?
None.
Hi, how hard is it to clean the selector switch? (Mine is acting up.)
Not very hard but not easy either because you have to take out front portion of it but for time being use AUX 2 which should stop it from acting it up.
Do you have any information about its damping factor???
Hi I saw a Denon PMA-2000R for sale online. The description said it was in good condition. The add said that everything is working like new except the phono stage selector. The ad says it makes a popping noise when you select MM or MC. After its selected no issues with the phono stage. Is the popping of the phoo stage fixable by any chance? Thanks!
Do not change phono selector when the unit is under power!
Turn it off and wait a minute before changing between mm and mc.
Hello, do you know maybe a model(s) which use the same poweramp? Thank you in advance.
All 2000 series and 2500NE amps are using same or similar power amps design, thanks
Great review
What does the Denon sound like with the Wharfdale Diamond 225’s? I know you have reviewed them before. I love the look of these speakers, and are on my list to audition.
Sound is very good, I think you will like it.
Hi Tharbamar, did you manage tot set the bias yourself? Greatings from Ralph.
Bias was within factory spec last time I checked.
Nice.
Power supply is strange. There are only two big caps for power stage. Parallel transformers? One for the preamp?
There are very many Elma Silmic II high damped caps inside. Does it sound dynamic?
It’s not strange for Japanese design amps, this amp is dual mono design, sound is dynamic and powerful, thanks
Tharbamar
Just found schematics. Symetric +/-56V for the power amp. One big cap for + and one for - with no channel-separation. So there‘s one transformer for + and one for -. Uncommon.... Might be designed because space was long, but not wide enough for one transformer.
what product did you use to dampen inside the chasis?
I'm Using: Dynamat amzn.to/34qgQyP
@@Tharbamar btw does changing the power cord affect the sound?
Hermoso amplificador cual es su valor
Between denon pma 2000 ivr and yamaha A-S1100 which one will you pick
I would still go for 2000IV R for dual mono design personally, may be much better power supply as well. AS2100 is more comparable in my opinion. In their home market Yamaha AS-2100 and Denon PMA-2500NE (successor of 2000 series) are direct competition.
Denon for sure!
What about Yamaha AS 1200 vs Denon PMA 1700n? Thanks
Be Safe!
Thank you.
Maybe the baby is sleeping 😪
I got the PMA 720 do I need an upgrade or is this still a great amp?
the one from 89
Any one know that 2 transformer are mono design or 1 is for power amplifier section and 1 for the pre amplifier? I didn't find and information about this, thank you.
I have the manufacturer spec sheet in the video if you missed it, it is dual mono design and power output is a lot more than rated by Denon.
@@Tharbamar thank you, I have the 2500 but I still don't know the details. Ha ha
You know what, I using a luxman CL88 vacuum pre amp and I bet the sound quality for me at least 20% better!! I used to use CL88 and MQ88 but now I keep the MQ88 in my garage and that Denon 2500 doing a very good job.
Amazing video as always buddy if you ever decide to sell it please let me know
Thanks
Sir.
please suggest a good stereo integrated amp under 1000 usd.
Thank you
Marantz PM8006, Denon PMA-1600NE is very good choices. Thanks
But , can we get this Amplifier in the Us ?
Yes, you can in AC 120V.
Tharbamar I couldn’t find any probably has different model name?
Model name is the same all over the world, PMA-2000 IVR was last available for 2006-7 in the U.S. after that they stopped selling here, but they released PMA-A100 (same innards) for 100 years anniversary model amp and that was it, your best bet is US audiomart or auction sites to find one.
i dont agree you any more. If i've gotten R3 Speaker, I will invest PMA-2000IV amplifier. It's a germ because of its rare
How is the denon PMA-2000R compared to the IVR ?
IVR have better pre stage.
How is Denon pma1060?
2500 is not dual mono, just differential. Not sure about 2000 though.
maybe one day
Whats the difference between the 2000ivr and 2000r i can get the 2000r for 600$ used
IVR have better pre section and remote control, 2000 does not come with remote control.
Why is this not a good match with electrostatic speakers?
I am pretty sure it would have to do with the impedance characteristics of the speaker I believe electrostatics. are a problem with some amplifiers.
magnetic speakers are mostly act as resistive loads whereas electrostatic speakers have a considerable capacitative characteristic, meaning they can store the electrecal enenrgy of the amplifier and send it back to the amplifier when the polarity of the signal that is fed to them reverses.
Power board look’s like Sansui with Elna Silmic
whats the damping factor of this amp?
700+
compare to Mark Levinson 383 please
What class of amplifier is it?
It,s class AB.
