The food, being all organic and fresh is simple but more flavourful than anything this side of the Atlantic. Faleminderit shume!! (I think the locals would prefer you to say "raki", not "rakija".) I first had raki at 9 in the morning on a Tuesday and never forgot it. It really "opens up the sluices at both ends"! Magical.

It's interchangeablefor example we can say both "Rakia eshte e mire" or "rakija eshte e mire" to mean "(the) rakija is good/delicious" I guess it depends from the region. But simply "raki" is the "non-the" form of the noun So Albanian - English Raki = rakija Rakija/rakia = the rakija

Ahh. I am Albanian. And yes, there is some very high quality honey around Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia. But also in Germany they have crazy quality. The best probably is in Arabia. But that is something to argue about. I love honey. So much more than all this alcohol.

Don’t believe pilaf is a breakfast item, but then again I’m from the southwest originally. Whereas my breakfast in the US consists of coffee. Lol

No, we were not under Italian "influence" in the 90's. We immigrated to Italy in the early 90s in mass, and brought back what we seen there. Albania has had a "coffee culture" before the 90's.

My husband is Czech, his favorite breakfast dish is Trahana. It looks like a regular porridge but far more tasty. Especially when is prepared with goat yoghurt.
I can't believe Albanian cuisine has so many similarities with Turkish cuisine .Specially bread egg is called ekmek balığı in Turkey . Wow ı am so happy to learn these things.
David TRAHANA is a dough made with wheat flour and yoghurt which is then dried and crumbled. This is then boiled with water and salted and poured on bread cut in bite sizes, on top of it we crumble feta cheese and drizzle generous amount of olive oil or fried butter or lard (some times with paprika) and small pieces of meat.
raki- is popular in Greece, Bosnia and other Balkan countries and is called the national drink of Turkey. Similar to Greek ouzo and Italian grappa, the nonsweet spirit was originally produced from the solid residue of the grape - the skin, pulp, seed and stem - that remained after the fruit was pressed to make wine.

People in general don’t know this but espresso originates from Albania, the italians just claimed it as their own thing. Many such cases.
