- Just a quick one to talk about something that's probably really obvious to many of you, and that's the double meaning in the title TRANSFORMERS ONE.

To those wondering, Japan after WW2 was considered at zero (being crippled by the war and having the sun dropped on them twice) and Godzilla brought them to minus one.

Okay, I didn't really have an issue with it being called "TRANSFORMERS ONE". Because it's not like they can call yet _another_ line "Transformers", we have like 3 different ones that are either "Transformers" or "The Transformers". Calling it something different allows it to not be confused with the other stuff you could talk about.
Also starting at the real beginning, where Optimus is still Orion Pax, and Megatron hasn't picked up his name, is an interesting concept. Now we get to see the story pan out from the beginning, see as Megatron slowly slips away, while Orion holds fast to his ideals.
In my country(Poland) the title was translated to "transformers: origin" which can be literally translated as "transformers: origin"
Upsets me that everybody's getting their panties and twist over this movie it's not supposed to be the 86 movie it's not supposed to be anything after it's supposed to be before and I think this is going to be a really good movie explaining before

"Cybertron Falls: Till All Are One" is the title of the final chapter of The Brand Name Company's CGI take on the TFs. Look them up on YT if you haven't already found them.
The actual reason it’s called minus one is stated by the directors it’s set in post war japan and they are at 0 the worst japan has ever been in then Godzilla comes and it gets worst therefore it goes to minus one for it is now worst then zero because he is worst than the bomb 1:32

I barely remember Robots in Disguise 2015 (didn't like the cartoon enough for any rewatch) but I'm pretty sure that's when Aligned continuity cartoons addressed OP as 13th. But considering what they did to Megatronus in that cartoon, I could be remembering it wrong. RiD2015 really had a drastic drop in quality. I do really like Aligned continuity, but it's a little all over the place at times.

Transformers one isn't a prequal at all actually it's is own movie/ universe, that is what was said by the people who made the movie anyway.

The original version announced in 2015 was a prequel to the live action films and the start of the TFCU timeline.
The movie is named TRANSFORMERS ONE aa a reference to the phrase "Till all are one" because during the era we will see during the movie all the cybertronian are united

I was thinking that a transformers origin film should've been titled transformers: One Shall Rise, with the rising origin of Optimus and Megatron and the inevitable civil war that would come and if it was successful enough for a full trilogy with the next 2 films titled Transformers: One Shall Fall, with the fall of the autobots and the fall of cybertron itself by the decepticons and finally Transformers: Till All Are One. With the threat of unicron looming over, the autobots and decepticons must unite against a common enemy and restore cybertron to its former glory. this TF one film trilogy could've been lit, but they don't seem to be taking the source material very seriously, with all the cringy goofy humor showcased in the trailer aimed towards kids with the attention span of a tiktok video and raised by I pads . It's kinda disappointing. I hope that isn't the case and the film turns out to be the opposite, but so far it's not winning me over. 😒
I've been reading the transformers: exodus book and so far it's intriguing. Way better than this bad comedy claiming to be the origin of 2 of the greatest leading characters of the franchise. 😤💪
Tots agree on the title part, that is the best name layout for a TF trilogy for sure. What a missed opportunity, I really would have loved that.
I read an interview with the director and it seemed like he understood some of the tragedy of Cybertron (hopefully not just BSing the fans). From the info floating around for the film's actual direction it seems it's much more serious than the crappy trailer. (A bad push from the marketing department unfortunately.) Best to give it a shot when it comes out so Hasbro knows people care about that part of the story/lore/whatev. It is 100% the first TF movie with zero humans (not counting Rise of Predicons cause that ended TFP) and we have been begging for a Cyberton only story with no earth, so support is gonna help future projects in that direction. It's really too bad the trailer fell so hard on its face b/c the movie's probably gonna be pretty good (though we all hope for awesome as TF fans).
Aligned continuity books are pretty fun (def overlooked which is too bad cuase I like 'em). Ya definitely gotta get to the 3rd one. Retribution is hands down the best in my humble opinion (and connects most with The Covenant of Primus). Though they did switch writers so the style flows a little different. The 2nd book (Exiles) also totally makes me think of the Cybertron cartoon from the Unicron Trilogy, for a lot of reasons lol.

Personally, I think they chose to focus on the comedy moments in the first trailer to get the general audience hooked, mainly kids! Which is a good chunk of the demographic, so it makes sense in that aspect. However, I feel that the next trailer or a few trailers later on might start to focus more some of the possible darker moments to then try and appeal to older fans, while still trying to be ok for kids as well! Regardless though, I’m definitely gonna go watch the movie because not only is it transformers, it’s the FIRST FULLY ANIMATED TRANSFORMERS MOVIE IN THEATERS SINCE THE 1986 MOVIE! As an animation fan, I feel I need to go see it to support animation! And it does look a bit weird, I admit. But I think they did the best they could with mixing the live action aesthetic with a more simplified look!

It's called Minus One because it was a reference to Japan after the war. Their society was decimated after WWII and society went back to 0. They had to rebuild. Godzilla sent Japanese society even further back, hence the name, Minus One, as in their society was reduced to even worse then it was after the war.
I used to think it had something to do with elita 1 since they always seemed to leave out the number when talking about her
Godzilla Minus One was called such cos the nukes brought Japan down to zero.

I think they're selling it in a very deceptive and intentional way. We come in expecting dated humor and overbearing nostalgia-trolling. Couched in that I think will be all manner of deep and ugly concepts. Cybertronian history is packed to the gills with fucked up genocides, slavery, eugenics, and worse. The story of Optimus and Megatron is all of those things in almost every telling.
Ninja Turtles proved that this kind of project, when handled by people who give a shit, can be both terrific AND profitable.
Unrelated: I purchased and read the first 4 MLP Transformers comics.
