They had already established previously that the bots have to adapt to their bodies upon first activation, so there isn't any logical reason for a sexless species to have a spark that doesn't "align" with the hardware. Basically Arcee went through painful disassembly experimentation for funsies. Actually, this raises the question of spark being moved from body to body not causing some sort of violent reaction where the body tears itself apart since it isn't a gradual change to the body/mind connection. Wouldn't the new body need to be an exact replica of the one that it was first hooked up to since it takes time for it to learn how to operate the initial body in the first place? Just to head off the one counterargument, Arcee was among the first groups of Cybertronians. Not old enough to be a Prime but not recently enough that cold construction was even a thing at the time. On the other hand, the only real female at the time was one we don't get a lot of in the IDW1 continuity: Solus. So it's likely that they were so early in their evolution, they hadn't yet taken on the adaptation that gave them genders as that's not something they knew about until they started interacting with organics. Especially considering that's when Anode and Lug transitioned. Plus, if that worked the way you're suggesting, there never would have been a Functionist era. So I'd argue there's a set amount of perimeters for how they shape their bodies in the forging process, like how on Eukaris there are only a set number of perimeters that determine biology and what tribe they'll be affiliated with. There's also the question of why the core Cybertronians primarily came out male but colony worlds like Caminus, who I'm pretty sure were all forged vs. cold constructed, there's a much higher ratio of females.
I guess you could explain the sexual dimorphism as some sort of vestigial organ? Like it was a characteristics that had an use before getting replace for a new reproductive method, but hasn't dissappear yet, which could also explain why females are so rare. Alternatively, it could be that the dimorphism isn't related to reproduction, but as some sort of adaptation of a part of the species that coincidentally gave psychological aspects of maternity and societal buildings, aswell as a less physical prowess for a more slim and agile body.
While Arcee is seen as the first female Transformer in the franchise, she isn't actually the first female robot to appear in it, given that there was a whole episode called Enter the Nightbird, that had a Female robot Ninja named Nightbird show up in it where the Decepticons tried to use her as means of infiltrating and obtaining a chip that contained information on all of Earth's resources from the Autobots. And she was a beast for them to deal with given that it took a surprise shot in the back from Starscream (who's station was threatened by Nightbird, because Megatron, who seemed to be infatuated with her, saw her as Starscream's replacement in the Decepticon heirarchy) to actually allow the autobots to take her back to her creator for storage, though strangely they hinted at her returning at some point because the final shot of the episode was her glaring at the fourth wall.

More than three. Elita, Firestar, Greenlight, Chromia, and Lancer, with Lancer and Greenlight not getting names for twenty-five years and Firestar's name getting changed because of the Marvel character. And even though Arcee didn't show up until the movie, The Search for Alpha Trion was written a year AFTER the movie script was being finalized. Well, she was the main female character in a series written for teenage boys, and a lot of this stuff was written in the 2000s, so if she's not getting captured, she's getting traumatized, one way or another. Women getting caught or traumatized was the ''in'' thing back then.
Unhinged, questionable loyalty Arcee actually sounds pretty freaking cool. Do they go too far sometimes in her being tortured and her torturing others? Perhaps, but when held in moderation I think that's a good narrative path to keep her interesting. Sort of like how Black Widow in the comics is actually a bit Punisher-esque (the Avengers movies really softened her, almost a completely different character), is ruthlessly efficient, and takes psychotic glee in hunting and killing those who abuse and exploit children, which makes sense given her own backstory. I for one want Arcee to consistently be characterized as a psychotic assassin type who the Autobots are glad to have on their side (mainly cause it beats the alternative) ... and hope to keep on their side. Let her slay.
If I remember correctly, it's because Simon Furman (might be getting the name wrong) had difficulty reconciling the idea of female Transformers, so came up with the forced sex change thing. Later, other writers ran with the idea and turned it into something more positive
My one and only complaint about Transformers Prime is that all the Cybertronians main modes are much larger than their alt modes. Arcee, for instance, is a regular sized motorbike as a vehicle but when she transforms back into her main mode, she's like 5 meters tall. The Bayverse films may not make sense a lot of the time but they went to ridiculous lengths to ensure that the Cybetronians main modes are a believable size (i saw a video from the animators for those films that showed Optimus Prime transforming back and forth and the video had x-ray on so you could see the major components of Prime and how he fit together in vehicle mode). And yeah, it's an animated show so they can take certain liberties with stuff but still.
@@bladethehedgehog5322 They made a point that they don't mass shift in Prime. They can move their metal and it's a bit flexible and stretchy to a point.
I hate that something as silly as sounds effects take this channel from being easily one of the best transformers info channels all the way to being one of the hardest to listen to. Yeah, you definitely have to be in a certain headspace to watch these videos. They are… very busy, to the point of being kind of jarring. Like, he can talk about how Arcee‘s desire to get a body that is more in-line with her identity gets misused by Jihaxus so that he can turn her into a mindless machine, and then he interrupts that with a heavily bass-boosted clip of some silly scene from the gen 1 cartoon
Completely wrong. Arcee was made because the designer had a daughter who was into transformers and there were no female transformers at the time. It has nothing to do with that and was just Furman.
I've been following the Transformers franchise for a very long time and I think that Arcee is one of the few characters whose first appearance is the definitive version. Her relationship with Daniel is G1 Season 3 and 4 always spoke to me as a kid. She's such a wonderful mother figure, like Ellen Ripley.
In the Movie's one of them was killed on screen (the red one I believe) while the Pink one was shot, with the Blue one taking cover. In a comic they were both killed by Shockwave. They were also shot by the guy that Optimus cut half his head off in the first movie. Go watch the highway chase, and go watch just after Starscream finds them in that building in the desert.
I don’t think anything will top the fact she had a forced Sex Change by Shockwave just because he could but I am curious to see what else has happened to the poster girl over the years
If i had a nickle for every time arcee had been eaten by a giant mechanical scorpion. I would have 2 nickles. Which isn't alot but strange that it happened twice

My favorite Arcee as well is Transformers Prime Arcee, love her so much in the show, easily my favorite version of her, hope the Rise of the Beast Arcee be close to this version, in the little clips we have seen, she seems doing the kind of acrobatics she use to do in Prime and her vehicle mode is a Motorcycle so, very happy so far and I hardly can't wait for see her finally in a major role in the films....just please let her be HAPPY and stop giving my girl more TRAUMA.

Said right after showing us about a good 20 minutes of comic book artwork displaying fictional depictions of mecha gore/evisceration/dismemberment, and dark topics revolving around a character's physical/mental trauma. Sorry, but I will never stop finding it ironically comedic when a content creator tells his/her audience to "have discretion" when searching up potential Rule34/NSFW lewd art of the fictional character mentioned in their video AFTER showing us as much of dark themes of physical violence & phsycological traumatic that same character went through that they looked for themselves to put on a list to show us. It just makes me lol.
Not trying to be that person but i felt that they didn't need an explanation why there are female TF, no one complained why TF have male apperances, i mean weren't one of the 13 OG primes a female? If they wanted to give a reason they can say she was created along with the other male looking TF, and animal TF.
Explanations are generally required because there are people who go nuts when something they like includes things they don't agree with. When it comes to long-running franchises, those people who go nuts also tend to get real vocal with their opinions and try to ruin it for everybody.
It's because the writer for Spotlight: Arcee reaaally hated the idea of female Transformers. Back when she was first made, he made a whole mini-comic making fun of feminists, using Arcee. 🤷♂️
Ya know with how often her love interests and friends keep dying or getting basically lobotomized I'm starting to think the different writers are just killing off characters so that their Arcee ships can work
Bay-verse: “The autobots show no mercy, and have no prisoners. Is that dark enough?” Comics: *foolish, you don’t wanna know what the characters have went through in the comics.*
I don’t think Simon Furman intended for Arcee’s sex change to come across as transphobic or homophonic, he himself said that it didn’t make sense to him why the Transformers would have different genders when they didn’t reproduce sexually. But yeah, I still think it was handled very poorly and leaves a LOT of unfortunate implications.
I'm willing to give him a bit of leeway with it, because he is very obviously a product of his generation and time (and not just the way he wrote or treated such sensitive issues, he's a good writer in terms of world building and lore but his dialogue writing? Let's just say it never evolved past the 90s and it shows). The fact that he has admitted this and apologised for it helps a bit more too.
He doesn’t like them having genders but he has them using he/him pronouns, so they have gender. It’s just that he didn’t want to write female transformers it seems.

Killed ravage?? That's the absolute most unbelievable thing in here. Ravage is always an unstoppable beast. Even in the short intro to the bumblebee live action mlm movie, after prime goes on a decepticon murder spree, they throw ravage at him and he drops mutha friggin prime all by himself lmao
Now that Bumblebee is kind of the second protagonist of the franchise next to Optimus, could you do a video on him and what he's done through the generations?
Also, Bayverse Optimus must have been wrecked seeing his dead girlfriend's sister possessing her dead body and then getting said body destroyed in Egypt.
I think whomever first decided to make Arcee the PTSD poster child for Cybertronians has surpassed Ron Friedman for biggest destroyer of feels. That is, until Dreamwave and IDW came into the picture. I can understand if a writer wants to craft a story that invites increased visibility and contemplation of an aspect of our world. But, why do it with an established IP that (originally) has no connection to the issue at hand? Instead of doing an exploration of how an androgenous, non-endocrine driven society could evolve (which could provide thought exercises of what it could be if and when we become a more/all technology organism or even those of us neurodivergent may be feeling now), they become lazy, throwing away all the work that came before them by saying "I'm in charge now, we're doing things my way...because I can." So now, a new generation has a different view of something that further separates them from generations before. Remember, Jhiaxus said that was his reasoning for what he did to Arcee. Does that not make the writers the bad guys too? If you want to write your story, and a lot of times they should because they are important concepts, create your own characters and environment. Don't destroy what bonded people to the IP in the first place.
I don't know why this guy thanks us for watching his videos, they're great, it's genuinely an enjoyment to. People talk about Prime's Arcee, but much like Animated Prowl is just Groove, Prime Arcee is just Chromia... It ain't really Arcee, but that doesn't make the portray of the character any less iconic.
for rise of the beasts, i heard that she and wheeljack are in a relationship but it was cut in the movie (a lot were cut apparently). i would've like to see it just because it sounds pretty funny
Arcee: Hey Bumblebee I have something to tell you. Bumblebee:What is it Arcee? Arcee:I think I like you... Bumblebee:....Dose that mean Im going to die?!I dont want to die... Arcee:What?!......
Never been a die hard transformers fan, however I was always aware of the different series and characters. I am currently 23 years old, and for a least a decade or however long it’s been since I learned about this character, I honest just realized her name is Arcee. For literally my entire life up until this moment in me typing this comment I swore her name was Acree. I read it as such without a 2nd thought. Funny how life works sometimes😂
yeah the whole trasn arcee thing should have never been a thing, because it was done by idiots who first did not understand fundamentally one single thing about it, even hated the idea of sex and gender for robots in the first place and basically created a mentally unstable and violent beast as a character which was not well received by either general readership and trans people. this explains the constant explanation rewrites and "lied about identity" stuff that made it all more complicated than it needed to be.
Man thank goodness you did that two weeks ago and not like this week. Although you didn't cover what fans would do so I don't think you would cover what Cliffjumper Studios did
Dude, seriously with that explanation of why she exists in the first place? Really? Anyway, as far as the sex change, in the final analysis, she DID want that but Jhiaxus went out of his way to make the process as painful as possible and do whatever else he could think of to hurt her besides. Because if you're going to go for a process that as far as you know no one's ever done before MAYBE DON'T GO TO THE PSYCHOPATH. It's how he went about it that drove her mad. Also, Wreck-Gar's head admitted the surgery on Sideswipe wouldn't have worked anyway. He'd hoped it would, but in the end all he had was a David Bowie reference because being reminded that he'd just died in real life was totally what I needed at that moment. I'm not crying, it's rust plague.
In the same comic where Gage got brainwashed, she managed to convince him of his origins and break them out of the jail cell. They then had a good ending. I read the comic btw
@RudoMike21 it's one of the IDW comics, my school was working with an online public library and I was able to read a couple. They aren't there anymore which is sad
@RudoMike21 I was also able to read the comic about the terminator attacking the Transformers and a spinoff comic for the terminator where it follows a second woman who got attacked by another terminator sent alongside the one in the first movie. In this story she Enlisted the help of some crime boss to take it down. Then, as repayment, destroyed any evidence against said crimeboss
Hasbro: "We're going to make the first Trans-former!" Me: "Fantastic!" Hasbro: "And we're portraying them as violent, unstable, and monstrous as a direct result of the transition!" Me: "Uhhhh...."
And erase the most iconic female transformer in the process by turning her trans. Erasure of women _and_ portraying the worst aspects of trans people in the same blow. The writers at IDW have zero self-awareness at this point.
Ok You messed up a bit for the movie comics, so here it is. SO Arcee is sisters with Chromia and ELita 1, they joined Optimus when the war broke out, eventually as the first film wraps up, she was on Mars with a team of other AUtobots, failed to kill Starscream and most of her team was killed or their fate unknown, she jumped onto his ship, made it to Cybertron, helped anothe Bot team stop his plan, got captured eventually by THrundercracker and a Con medic named FLatline, ELita 1 and Chromia at this point had already been killed, and Arcee got torn apart and put into a new body with her dead sisters. But because they were sisters her spark was used to bring life back to them, so basically they're now mentally interconnected, know what they are each thinking and generally feeling and can feel the other's pain, they survived Revenge of the Fallen, only for ELita to be crushed to death by SHockwave, and Arcee and Chromis barely manage to survive setting off a bomb trying to kill SOundwave. SO either they are dead, or were too injured and cut contact with everyone to go into hiding and recover, being presumed dead, thus Cemmetary Wind wrote them off as dead.
I don't know why Arcee always gets the title of being the first female transformer. Elita One, Chromia, Firestar, Greenlight, Lancer, Moonracer, all of these female autobots debuted before Arcee did.
Y'know, she probably caused more horror than was inflicted upon her. But we love our pink psycho all the same.

@@justaghostintheseaaka having it give Arcee extreme psychopathy and a hate boner filed by revenge so large she became Transformers' Doomslayer
TFP Arcee is by far my favorite Transformer. Ahead of even TFP Optimus.
Same, she is the best Edgy waifu to exist
Same
I know Arcee is pretty
*BUT DAMN* her backstory is something else
Mass shifting. It's a thing Transformers can do. Shown in G1 with Megatron and Soundwave. Yes, it's an actual thing explained in the lore.
Megatron turns into a gun
@@bladethehedgehog5322 They made a point that they don't mass shift in Prime. They can move their metal and it's a bit flexible and stretchy to a point.
I hate that something as silly as sounds effects take this channel from being easily one of the best transformers info channels all the way to being one of the hardest to listen to. It's like listening to a really fascinating lecture, but every couple sentences, dj Pauly d jumps in with an airhorn. Really great content, don't get me wrong, it's just the slaps and other silly things like that. Hard to get by it lol.
You know what's funny, is that Optimus making Arcee to appease to feminists is 100% legit what'd happen.

Completely wrong.
Arcee was made because the designer had a daughter who was into transformers and there were no female transformers at the time.
It has nothing to do with that and was just Furman.

Ya know with how often her love interests and friends keep dying or getting basically lobotomized I'm starting to think the different writers are just killing off characters so that their Arcee ships can work

This 💯
Absolutely. It simpy shows huge lack of creative talent as far as I'm concerned.

I clearly remember Arcee being Springers love interest in the animated movie.
I need more info on Arcee becoming a Prime. That has me intrigued.
