I saw a video clip of a rugby play once that is hard to forget. The player with the ball was sprinting to the end, and an opponent close behind slowly closing the distance. Just as they were reaching the end of the field the pursuer makes a last ditch lunge and grabs one of the runners feet. The runner, already near one of those posts, careens into it face first. Iirc they still got the points since the runner's outstretched arm holding the ball came to rest on the correct side of the line.
1:00 As a former Rugby player at a national level, it's basic math. You weight (pun intended) your options, and run for it. I was 230 pounds at that time . Playing the sides. Had 3/4 players of the opposite teams constantly on me. Played 'til the day I got my back injured so much my legs were numbs for a couple of hours. The day after that, I was with everyone at the pub, having a beer and reminiscing about the previous match. Best sport days ever.
But I bet you have some very fond memories mate. I have multiple painkillers with my coffee every morning. I damaged my back permanently working in the building industry. From age 10 I dreamt of becoming a carpenter and at age 50 I still love it. The only thing I would change is how I went about some of the things I did. As someone who has little to no feelings in my hands legs and feet somedays I still look back fondly on some of my experiences and some of the people I was lucky enough to work with. Hope you're not suffering too much mate. It's not the nicest feeling 😊
I am not surprised some rugby players have played in the NFL. Playing with no pads at full tilt is really brutal! Such great athletes! I do no know if you have had any hockey highlights on your channel. It is another very physically tough sport. Thanks for your interesting videos.
I spent 10 years 'age 6 to 16' playing this awesome sport. Only ever had 1 serious injury a dislocated shoulder. Some of my best memories from childhood are from playing this game. Good mix of club and international clips here. If you want to see a great International match I highly recommend the England v Scotland 6 Nations match from 2019 one of my all time favourite games ever.
I've got a book recommendation for you which I found through Chuck Palahniuk thanks to you! Miles from Nowhere - Nami Mun. Story of a Korean teen runaway in New York, beutifully written, moving and sad but with a message of hope. "In the hallway I walk past the line of beds with sick people, wearing gowns too thin to hide their fears." Love the way Nami writes!
6:50 Mitch Hunt playing for the Crusaders and scoring a long drop goal to win the match (he's a Nelson College old boy...ahem). And yes, the ball can only be advanced by running with it in hand, kicking it ahead, or by using the head. Players cannot advance the ball by knocking it on with their hands or arms, or advance the ball by losing control of it (called knock-on). Players can transfer the ball to one another by throwing it (without propelling the ball forward), or by losing control of it but regathering it, so long as the ball is only propelled backward toward their own goal line. When kicking the ball, it can be retrieved by players from the same side as the kicker, so long as the receiver starts from an onside position. To do this, the receiver usually starts from behind the kicker of the ball. This is seen within this compilation. The compilation is a good one, however my criticisms of this type of presentation are that many of the tackles show unlawful contact or unnecessary roughness. The game now has effective yellow and red card systems, as well as video reviews and mouthguards that detect head trauma. Research conducted in South Africa back in the 1970's showed that front row forwards on average lived ten years less than the same cohort playing in different positions. It has taken a long time for the rugby world to catch up and take head injuries seriously. My other criticism is that the play shown illustrates individual brilliance, but does not give due recognition to team play, and the carefully crafted exploits that lead teams to win, often against great odds. Teams that often come from impossible positions to win matches by using team tactics, are usually from New Zealand and South Africa jsyk.
I always enjoy your reviews Intelligent, interesting and genuinely entertaining. Rugby is a beautiful game Watch some reviews about Nigel Owen’s and the massive respect the players had for him as a referee Keep reviewing please And I will keep watching Every day is a school day
I couldn't think of anything from South Africa or New Zealand, but I did come up with this group from the Sahara called Tinariwen. They play blues mixed with local and other African music. They call it Desert Blues :D
Love your reactions and the honest videos you put out and I would really suggest you checkout some South African videos!! We are super loyal fans of anything South African!!! So if you wanted to checkout some 🇿🇦🇿🇦 music then I have some suggestions for you. For local Rap - Nasty C, AKA, Casper Nyovest, Stogie T, youngstaCPT, A-Reece. Rock/alternative I'd suggest - Springbok Nude Girls, Boo, Fokofpolisiekar, Wonderboom. House/EDM - Black Coffee, DJ Kent, Goldfish. But also checkout some local genres like Kwaito, Gqom, Amapiano, especially the dance videos for these. They can be pretty lit 💥🇿🇦🕺 I've only mentioned a tiny bit of what is out there from South Africa but keep the videos coming and sending good vibes from South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦
I'm a big fan of your videos and love that you're venturing into sport. This is rugby union which I am a fan of but where I'm from in Australia, rugby league is the more popular game and I'd love to see you react to our league which is the NRL, or even react to individual player highlights. I would suggest starting with someone like Greg Inglis or Shaun Johnson.
Thanks for the video. I started watching rugby league a few years ago. My team is Melbourne storm. Peter fitzsimons is a former rugby union player for Australia. He's written some books on rugby you might enjoy.
"Rugby i'm him moments" is a little less focused on the big hits. The lifting in the line-outs is a relatively new phenomenon. When i started rugby, you had to get yourself off the ground. The line out itself is the method of restarting play if the ball, or any part of the ball-carrier, goes out of bounds on the side of the pitch.
I don't know if you also react to music, if so there is a performance by a 15 year old girl Emma Kok who sings the song Voila together with Andre Rieu (one of the best orchestra leaders in the world), for me it is one of the most emotional performances I've ever seen, thousands of people in tears, I think it's a beautiful video to watch and react
Being part of the team helps you feel stronger, and braver. You'll put your body on the line, to not let them down. Not everyone is as brave, but everyone in a good team will be boosted. We also have a rule at each team, to always back up your team. Even if the coaches say stop, they already told us not to. Not until the other team do. (It's usually just pushing and shoving to stop all onto one guy) It's more about not backing down, or showing a weakness. You always shake hands and drink with the opposition after. Even buy the good ones a beer, for a good play against you
5:35 Thats called a maul. You dont want to be anywhere in the maul, well maybe at the back steering it. I just love that its named after getting savaged by a bear.
The guy lifted is usually the second row forward ( due to his/her position in the scrum ) also known as a Lock forward, usually one of the tallest on the team
I played this at a club level for two years but ended up quitting for injury concerns. It's 5am in Sydney right now and about 11deg celcius. I feel aches from those injuries 20 years ago whenever it is cold like now & I wonder how much pain another two years would have bought me. Time doesn't health every wound it seems.
Two simple rules in rugby, you can only pass backwards, or you can kick forward, but kicking forward comes with the risk of your team loosing possession of the ball.
Ha ha ha, two simple rules in Rugby . . . you haven't watched enough Rugby if you think the rules are simple - summarizing a 170 page official rule book lol.
@@funkyjbass7762 well back in the 1970s when I played rugby at an amateur level in Wales, those were the basics, most importantly keep possession, as our coach said you can't score if you don't have possession. The rules are the referees problem, as long as the players stay within them, no problems. If you think that every rugby player knows every rule, then we wouldn't need refs.
The Sun Can’t Compare by Larry Heard/Mr. White is a track that consistently makes me happy. So glad you brought him up! I don’t the track you mentioned yet, I’m going to listen to it
In terms of books my favourite is Australian author Peter Carey's "Bliss" which was also made into a motion picture Australia in the video have the gold top and green pants as opposed to South Africa with the green tops and the white pants
The thumbnail is rugby league, but the video is rugby union ... two different sports. Personally I much prefer rugby league, which is the much bigger sport in Australia and getting bigger and bigger in New Zealand as well. Nice song choice with The Chills! I saw them a couple of years ago ... I think the lead singer is the only original member left given everyone else in the band looked about 20 haha.
League was popular in NZ back when Mal and Wally were running around. Now its too samey with more grunt than skill. IMHO. Union has its slow moments though and pushover tries can't be seen let alone enjoyed.
@@craigwells3655 There was an article about Sky ratings a few days ago which showed that league has made huge increases and is only just behind Super Rugby now. It's particularly much more popular with younger viewers.
That kick you seen them celebrating was a feild goal you must kick the ball as it hits the ground This was a risky kick as the distance it had to travel normally only in closer so must have been end of game When kicking forward normally kicked high for the kicker or fastest player to get there if possible But anyone from the kicking team must be behind the kicker when they kick otherwise cannot touch the ball as classed off side Which leads to a penalty to go against kicking side Also they where showing two type of rugby One was rugby league the other rugby union Which is the one where they lift the players up from line out Also its the one when player falls the place ball backwards and teams try to pile over the ball to protect it as once you hit the ground you have to release the ball immediately otherwise it get turned over to otherside if you hold onto it They are no tackle counts so opposition can only regain the ball by error's Rugby league they dont have line outs and you get only 6 tackles then have to turn ball over to the opponent Thats why you'll hear in this game umpires call 5th tackle and normally the team with the ball will kick it to get as much ground as they can So they have more ground to defend the ball same deal with penalties as union goes to opponent The scoring systems are different as well with try or field kicks These a basic differences between the two codes You should be able to find on you tube the difference and history of why the difference between the two codes I played as a forward one of the big guys who slam into opponent or defending their forwards You better of running in hitting hard and it does less damage then hitting softly If you watch the tape back the defender's who are standing relativity still get knocked over and where you get hurt Also makes it easy for player with ball to get around you because you cannot change direction as quick when standing still The reason you see players with ball do the funny looking side step dance Because players are taught to watch the opponent hip movement and tells you which way they'll move So they do the dance to confuse the defending team on the direction they are going to take I hope this helps as im a few days late seeing this Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
I play rugby in high school for two seasons and the injuries had my parents change me to soccer with my sister. I still have back problems from it. Fantastic live very physical game though
The rugby 'fliers' are usually the biggest players on the pitch. The 'rugby jargon' for what is happening is simply 'lifting the jumper". A book? England was in this video so I''ll recommend a book by TH White. He was a good friend of JRR Tolkien. Two very different movies were based on it. The first was a Disney adaptation of part 1 of the book (The Sword in the Stone). The 2nd was taken from part 3 and is a musical (Camelot). The book's title is 'The Once and Future King'.
"Best Rugby Tries 2022 | Women's International Rugby", about 37 mins running time and then there's woman's rugby 7's, which is 7 players on each side and they play 7mins first half and 7min' the second half, not many players on the field that means lots of open space on the field and if you are smaller and fast, this game is for you, best wishes and enjoy and thanks for this reaction.
as someone who isn't a real fan of any of it i get the appeal of watching rugby. has to be the toughest sport in the world. soccer... i really don't understand what drives people to want to watch that. kicking a big ball and when there's a bit of contact they fall down and pretend to be hurt.
No time for staging either and always a good reason to dislike the player, not the game. I think many are drawn to soccer because of the skills. Also it is most nation's number one sport.
Yes, you have to pass backwards and you can kick forwards but any of your team in front of you when you kick it can’t touch the ball or they will be offside. Rugby has lots of rules and it get quite complicated.
You’re watching a mix of club rugby and international rugby. Is why u seen the s.a. Kit. Rugby is a great sport! Never went to a club game, but the international games are great!! Game doesn’t stop for adds. 40 min of knocking lumps out of each other, wee break then back at it for ANOTHER 40 min.
I have no clue what the rules are in rugby, but it is very entertaining to watch. It seems like a sport that has it's origins in ancient times where they used the head of an adversary as a ball.
watching this with you (so to speak) makes me wonder about the rules. for example, about those behind the back passes... what happens if they drop it? is the ball dead where it hits or where it was thrown from? or is it maybe still in play for anyone who picks it up?
I’ve only been to watch my friend in one AMATEUR Rugby league game, the sound of muscle on muscle at full throttle still haunts me! They give nothing up it’s do or die
So the one where the guy in the black shirt grabs the guy in the red shirt around the neck,at around 2:24 mark, the red shirt guy is called Joe Marler, and the other, James Haskell, and believe it or not they are actually they very close friends, and Marler was deliberately winding him up, (that's what he does) and Hask took it seriously, but after the game Marler had a laugh about it and they were fine.
There is a 7 aside rugby world league tournament that just finished in Hong Kong. Both men and women. Its fast and short. 2x7 minute halves. Played Football for 8 years (city league through to University) and Rugby for 6 (High School to U) and there were less injuries in Rugby. More cuts and bruises but less serious injuries, well, except for a buddy that broke both collar-bones. LoL
I've read online a few days ago that a youngster ,21,Mason Tupaea is going to be picked for a local team and he weighs 188kg.. In his pics he doesn't seem fat at all but huge legs Not sure if it was a misprint but that's a heavy dude at such a lean looking physique.
I thought this video was about rugby, not hockey 😁 Apparently one must dive into the "end zone" or whatever it's called. Rugby looks chaotic, but there's a method to the madness, probably; I'd have to watch more or check into the rules for the sport to make sense.
If I was you I would check out the top ten most brutal fights in rugby league x it’s a different sport to rugby union . And maybe check out some try videos as well . Welcome to rugby xxxx
They are all nuts, few m8's play, have come to work with a broken foot, jaw "be all right" 😂 Should also check out Rugby League, faster play, less stop start, but not as high profile.
Should watch DIRT: Switched On Kill (Episode 1), its a good docuseries about dirt oval racing and on youtube. Would be something different to react too.
Yes to pass back kick forward And runner will have a chaser from his team if possible waiting to see if he needs to pass. If he's caught you'll see then regroup in another line.
A lot of this tackles are actually penalized and some can end in red cards, and the spicyness between players dont tend to happen a lot, maybe once or twice a match but teams tend to separate them immediatly. It´s not really what the actual sport is about but i guess it brings views from people that don´t know the sport and want to see hard contact. The formation you mentioned is called "lineout". It happens when a player or a kick from a player touch or pass both lateral lines. The opponent team then gets to trhrow the ball with the advantage of making plays in order to get the ball where they want to jump. Those who jumps are typically the tall ones wich are called "second rows" numbers 5 and 6 (numbers in this game are important because each one has different roles). Hope you enjoy more playmaking rugby both from backs (9-15) and fowards (1-8) and i recommend you to watch an entire match (a lot of good matches uploaded) to actually understand rules, roles, plays, etc. Highlights tend to be confusing if you don´t know the sport.
Just FYI the images in your thumbnail are not from Rugby. They are from the National Rugby League (NRL) of Australia which is actually a completely different sport, with very different rules. Rugby Union*** is a different sport to Rugby League***. In Australia we tend to just call them “Union” and “League” to differentiate.
So refreshing to see a young lady who can appreciate such a manly sport. It certainly is a nice change of pace to not see the female of the species degrading guys doing guy stuff.

I loved to watch your face on some of those plays.....methinks you love Rugby😄
I am not surprised some rugby players have played in the NFL. Playing with no pads at full tilt is really brutal! Such great athletes! I do no know if you have had any hockey highlights on your channel. It is another very physically tough sport. Thanks for your interesting videos.
great to watch. rugby is THE sport.
*Success is measured not by a goal but by the help of your hearts measure of how important it all is!*
"In the hallway I walk past the line of beds with sick people, wearing gowns too thin to hide their fears."
Love the way Nami writes!
I always enjoy your reviews
Intelligent, interesting and genuinely entertaining.
Rugby is a beautiful game
Watch some reviews about Nigel Owen’s and the massive respect the players had for him as a referee
Keep reviewing please
And I will keep watching
Every day is a school day
I couldn't think of anything from South Africa or New Zealand, but I did come up with this group from the Sahara called Tinariwen. They play blues mixed with local and other African music. They call it Desert Blues :D
Nice music selection :)
Ruggers! Good clips. Grace is the right word.
No Protocol Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
Thanks for the video. I started watching rugby league a few years ago. My team is Melbourne storm. Peter fitzsimons is a former rugby union player for Australia. He's written some books on rugby you might enjoy.
International rugby union , Great clips of my favorite sport . 👍

Even buy the good ones a beer, for a good play against you
I love rugby..and your smile 😁🥰
5:35 Thats called a maul. You dont want to be anywhere in the maul, well maybe at the back steering it.
I just love that its named after getting savaged by a bear.
The guy lifted is usually the second row forward ( due to his/her position in the scrum ) also known as a Lock forward, usually one of the tallest on the team
Hiya' you need to watch the ladies six nations rugby, especially England ladies red roses absolutely amazing!!! 👍😃
Thanks for explaining this Julian!
That Chaos in the CBD track is reminiscent of Larry Heard/Mr Fingers. You might like 'On My Way'.
The Sun Can’t Compare by Larry Heard/Mr. White is a track that consistently makes me happy. So glad you brought him up! I don’t the track you mentioned yet, I’m going to listen to it
In terms of books my favourite is Australian author Peter Carey's "Bliss" which was also made into a motion picture
Australia in the video have the gold top and green pants as opposed to South Africa with the green tops and the white pants
Loveliest smile on the internet................😊
Nice teeth.....☺
That kick you seen them celebrating was a feild goal you must kick the ball as it hits the ground
This was a risky kick as the distance it had to travel normally only in closer so must have been end of game
When kicking forward normally kicked high for the kicker or fastest player to get there if possible
But anyone from the kicking team must be behind the kicker when they kick otherwise cannot touch the ball as classed off side
Which leads to a penalty to go against kicking side
Also they where showing two type of rugby
One was rugby league the other rugby union
Which is the one where they lift the players up from line out
Also its the one when player falls the place ball backwards and teams try to pile over the ball to protect it as once you hit the ground you have to release the ball immediately otherwise it get turned over to otherside if you hold onto it
They are no tackle counts so opposition can only regain the ball by error's
Rugby league they dont have line outs and you get only 6 tackles then have to turn ball over to the opponent
Thats why you'll hear in this game umpires call 5th tackle and normally the team with the ball will kick it to get as much ground as they can
So they have more ground to defend the ball same deal with penalties as union goes to opponent
The scoring systems are different as well with try or field kicks
These a basic differences between the two codes
You should be able to find on you tube the difference and history of why the difference between the two codes
I played as a forward one of the big guys who slam into opponent or defending their forwards
You better of running in hitting hard and it does less damage then hitting softly
If you watch the tape back the defender's who are standing relativity still get knocked over and where you get hurt
Also makes it easy for player with ball to get around you because you cannot change direction as quick when standing still
The reason you see players with ball do the funny looking side step dance
Because players are taught to watch the opponent hip movement and tells you which way they'll move
So they do the dance to confuse the defending team on the direction they are going to take
I hope this helps as im a few days late seeing this
Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
It was definitely someone from the Southern hemisphere that made this video.
@@bromeotorres6964 yeah, kicking a ball is very impressive.
@@syx3s Much harder to run around someone with a ball at your feet as opposed to holding it in your hands.
@@bromeotorres6964 it would be if they were allowed to hit you.
As long as the ball isnt thrown fwd its still alive so anyone can pounce on it.
This was crazy 😧 they take Rugby serious love the video Protocol Stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
I’ve only been to watch my friend in one AMATEUR Rugby league game, the sound of muscle on muscle at full throttle still haunts me! They give nothing up it’s do or die
So the one where the guy in the black shirt grabs the guy in the red shirt around the neck,at around 2:24 mark, the red shirt guy is called Joe Marler, and the other, James Haskell, and believe it or not they are actually they very close friends, and Marler was deliberately winding him up, (that's what he does) and Hask took it seriously, but after the game Marler had a laugh about it and they were fine.
an unstoppable force meeting an immovable objet, that’s what rugby is 😆
Ear protection is a valid reason to wear one of those caps. There's a lot of grabbing and accidents happen.
A lot of them have these cauliflower ears, just like judo-ers, it's also the ear rubbing in the scrums.
The game they play in heaven!
7:30 you can see our guy is actually looking at the screen in the stadium to see where the other players are.
If you want more plays there are some great compilations of Duhan Van der Merwe. Man's a rugby beast!!
Love how the thumbnail shows league players, which is a much better TV game. Rugby was always the favorite to play though.
The lift is a lineout, the player is called a lock forward and usually the tallest in the team..check out fat freddys drop from nz✌️
There is a 7 aside rugby world league tournament that just finished in Hong Kong. Both men and women. Its fast and short. 2x7 minute halves. In the women's group USA and Canada have both beaten won tournaments and are usually in the top 10 or higher. Highlights are on RUclips, should you want to either react or watch them. New subscriber.
In love with ruuugby!!!
Please check out the rugby world champions, the mighty South African Springboks🇿🇦😊
Best vid would be diehardrugby's "The most ferared team in the world, the Springboks are brutal beasts"
If not the team, then definitely the best athlete on earth, Cheslin Kolbe.
I was gonna mention Kolbe, but I see you already have brother
Another important rule is that you can only takle the player in possession of the ball, recent rule changes mean no tackling above the shoulders.
Interesting the picture on the front of the video was Australian Rugby League, but the video was all Rugby Union. 2 totally different games. Similar but different.
Played Football for 8 years (city league through to University) and Rugby for 6 (High School to U) and there were less injuries in Rugby. More cuts and bruises but less serious injuries, well, except for a buddy that broke both collar-bones. LoL
I saw one of those guys grt hit so God damn hard. He'd literally broke apart. Every part of hid body shattered and went in different directions
I've read online a few days ago that a youngster ,21,Mason Tupaea is going to be picked for a local team and he weighs 188kg..
In his pics he doesn't seem fat at all but huge legs
Not sure if it was a misprint but that's a heavy dude at such a lean looking physique.
I played rubgy at school. I never got scared about running into people because you're too busy trying to make sure nobody tackles you from behind.
You'll be pleased to hear the women's rugby isn't much different!
@@tinymahuta I was referring in terms of skill and commitment to the game.
u SHUD watch the most feared team in the world.. South Africa springboks
I thought this video was about rugby, not hockey 😁
Apparently one must dive into the "end zone" or whatever it's called.
When did you start doing music at the end?
They are all nuts, few m8's play, have come to work with a broken foot, jaw "be all right" 😂
Should also check out Rugby League, faster play, less stop start, but not as high profile.
You'll usually see a lot of rugby stuff from south africa and new Zealand as they are (on average) the best teams.
Impossible rugby skills is a nice video. There is a nice video with rugby rules on youtube. It explaines rugby in simple terms.
would highly recommend checking out a benji marshal highlights video, dude was an absoulute freak!!
Search up cheslin kolbe. He is a south african player. Personally, my favorite. Really good
Rugby is a game of controlled aggression. Sometimes the control slips..
Should watch DIRT: Switched On Kill (Episode 1), its a good docuseries about dirt oval racing and on youtube. Would be something different to react too.
I’m not sure if this is still the case but as a British school child most of us started playing this full contact at 7.
Yes to pass back kick forward
And runner will have a chaser from his team if possible waiting to see if he needs to pass.
If he's caught you'll see then regroup in another line.
Cheslin Kobe
We are all so intersested in who you are can you enlighten us more please

Just FYI the images in your thumbnail are not from Rugby. They are from the National Rugby League (NRL) of Australia which is actually a completely different sport, with very different rules. Rugby Union*** is a different sport to Rugby League***. In Australia we tend to just call them “Union” and “League” to differentiate.

I didn’t know Seether was South African! I used to like their song Remedy. Thanks for this list Terrence (:
So refreshing to see a young lady who can appreciate such a manly sport.
It certainly is a nice change of pace to not see the female of the species degrading guys doing guy stuff.
