@@SonOfMuta The whole premise of the commercial is men staring at women and other men while eating bananas... The commercial works because this is something that happens.
I feel sorry for someone eating a banana. I can't explain it, but it's got nothing to do with the suggestiveness. Weirdly my brother has the same thing. We laugh about it whenever one of us remembers 😂
1. Stan Laurel made the eating of a banana into an art form. 2. Anybody into Irish folk music is always listening to lyrics in a language they don't understand. How many people know Gaelic? 3. Well done for not having a TV. You just went up another notch.
You mentioned you'd take a job doing sounds for films. The people who do that are called Foley artists, and they basically spend their days in a sound studio trying to create sounds for movies and such. I only know this because I'm a writer in advertising and I've had to go to my share of "Foley sessions" to help decide what sounds are best for the TV commercials I've written/produced. Years ago, I did a BMW commercial that featured a CGI penguin, so I attended the foley session at the Warner Bros sound studios in Hollywood. It was a fun experience watching a large 60-year-old man making the sounds of a little penguin walking through the snow. The sound they used for the penguin letting out a huge sigh was actually done by me, so I've got that going for me. Anyway, that Foley thing does look like a fun gig.
There are a couple that should have been included in this list. There are some very funny ones from an insurance company called "Centraal Beheer". Too many of their commercials to list, but maybe the Picknick one or the Acupunctuur commercial is funny. You don't need subtitles or translations for any of them, it all relies on visual story telling. Then there is the "fake" Mastercard commercial called "Priceless" that was originally a comedy skit, also very funny and I wish that would have aired on TV. I would have absolutely gotten a Mastercard because of that one!
Those "weird" things only happen if people sexualise the act of eating a banana, if people eat them like monkeys do (which is probably how most people does), no one cares about it.
I've heard that there are a few places that still grow the "Gros Michel" bananas. I've heard they actually tasted closer to synthetic banana flavor they still use in candies. Sweeter, bigger, and with more flavor is how I've heard them described. I'd love the chance to try one someday; all we get any more are from the Cavendish clone.
Thanks for the music tips! And your comments on the first commercial made me think of the saying I heard a long time ago: "She's such a prude she eats her bananas sideways."

The ketchup add is absolutely fine for kids: The ones whom shouldn't understand the joke will not understand the joke because they have no idea what you could hold in a car in a situation like this. And the ones whom understand the joke - they can't be shocked by it anymore. My parents answered me whatever question about sex at whatever age I had. Their philosophy was: When he's mature enough to ask the question he will also understand the answer - if not too detailed.
Seeing the Antônio Carlos Jobim "Água de Beber" recommendation, I am reminded of his "Waters of March" ("Águas de Março"), which I first heard on Art Garfunkel's second solo album, "Breakaway" during the mid-70's. Jobim seemingly had a preoccupation with water, at least as far as song titles are concerned, that is, as the latter is a random listing of images that are for the most part unrelated to water. The song is nevertheless pleasing to hear, as is the recommended Gilberto track. Thank you for posting!

Hi! I’m new here and European. I’d say it’s key for market strategies to adjust to cultural differences in markets. So you’re spot on there. In general European commercials are more relaxed on subjects like sex and drinking because they are often relatable and easy to engage with and make fun of at the same time. In America things are a bit more prude I think. Also language wise we allow more curse words in daytime tv than America does
There used to be a show in the late 90s early 2000s here in the U.K called 'Tarrant on TV' Where they would show all kinds of insane European ads and other TV, I think all the episodes are here on YT if you're curious.
Sound effects artists are called Foley artists. Also, If you eat a banana in public and it becomes awkward, just own it. Make it awkward for them. Out creepin' a creep is hilarious. For music: I think I recommended this before but check out "Estrelar" by Marcos Valle (plus it was used in a beer commercial a few years ago).
it's not edited, the actors from the movie looks nothing like the ones in the commercial and they are clearly speaking Czech and not Swedish. Heinz in Czechoslovakia simply reenacted the scene from the movie.
If you go 90's, early-00's, you'll have a blast. There were even weekly shows about the "best" (funniest) commercials around EU (maybe the whole Europe). Unfortunately, I forgot the name ofcthe show.
My first thought on that first, banana one, was at the end, "bloody hell, that banana has gone off" when the first bottle was full of purple juice! The Canal+ ad was fun, some nice 'take you for a ride' (literally) as to where it was going. I spotted where the Heinz advert was going and was already wincing way before the denoument! And that last Vodafone advert, short and hilarious! In the past (many, MANY) years ago I saw, just the once, an advert on TV which was just a melange of random audio and bizaree light displays - the tag line (for the product whose name I cannot recall) was, ", more tatse than the advertsing". For music: I'd go for "Limelight" by Rush - not because it's about advertsing, but it IS about being in the public eye, plus it's a dmaned wonderful piece of music!
There is a video called the most effective british adverts which is worth a look, more like PSAs than product commercials but they used to be on tv all the time. Irn bru commercials are entertaining as are tango commercials. John lewis christmas commercials are pretty good too.
Songs in languages I don't speak but liked anyway: Gyöngyhajú Lány - Omega (Hungarian) 99 Luftballons - Nena (German) Árbakkinn - Ólafur Arnalds (Icelandic) Fado Menor - ??? The album is about a voyage around the world discovering the different unknown cultures around the world. Many of the tracks are named after foreign cities like Cuzco, Nara, Ninevah & Ulaid. I've seen some interesting examples of companies that had to change their product name because of the language or even the name was already taken. I can't find the exact example anymore. I believe it was in France. The company that was selling their product in France didn't know that a very well known adult magazine was already using the same name.
My music recommendation for you is Heilung. Absolutely fantastic. The "go to" songs are usually "Anoana", "Krigsgaldr" and "In Maidjan". I would also recommend "Norupo". You can't miss with any of those songs. They also have some tracks that are poems/stories. Can't recommend that group enough. Their shows aren't called concerts, they call them Rituals and they call their music "Amplified History". Can be a spiritual experience listening to them.
@@NoProtocol The live performances from "Lifa" are the "go to". Anoana and Norupo have great Music Videos. Would love to see a video from you about this group. Thanks for looking into them 🤙✌️
6:59 Czech guy here. Yeah, it was on all national TVs And back then (if I remember correctly) we had only couple TV channels, but it was on all. Czech commercials are known to be either rly dark, funny or "not giving single f*ck". And sometimes (like in this case) they are combination of all 3.
Great music suggestions - my favourite foreign (well, foreign to me) language song at the moment is 'Peupleraie by Clément Froissart'. Great vocals combined with a very ethereal, hypnotic sound :)
Bare in mind that US R rated movies are often rated 15+ to 12+ in Europe, sometimes even PG. There's a whole different culture and education about it, more about making things natural and explained rather than hide images and censor words.
Idk if someone would watch me eat a banana I'd just stare at them while eating. Bet they get more uncomfortable. Also damn I thought the same with the channel+ and the last one! I like you don't overreact and keep it like you feel, also I really like your voice. Favorite one has to be the Heinz one and the first Vodaphone one those are top notch! Keep it up and greetings from Austria 👋 Music recommendation 🤔Heilung Norupo which helped me a lot to get over the loss of close family, probably the closest thing you can get to ancient European music. The name of the band means healing in german.
I saw a clip of a baseball player realizing he was on camera about to eat a banana, so he turned it sideways and ate it like a corn on the cob,it was hilarious to watch... but he did avoid the meme machine 😉
You'd be surprised what we find normal to put on tv. A lot of times I'm thinking "wow, imagine showing this on American TV" (since I lived in the US for 6 years).
Absolutely loved your reactions to this! 😆The ketchup one is classic! P.S. Here's a great Belarussian track: Iva Sativa & Deepsk - А ў лузі, лузі. I speak a bit of Russian but not Belarussian, so most of it is pretty unintelligible to me!
Since you said you havent laughed at a commercial in a while you got to react to the greatest commercial of all time dirt devil exorcist. I watch that commercial probably 4 times a year
bananas, particularly a variety we call "apple bananas", are one of my favourite fruits. i like them so much i have a small banana forest i planted years ago.
@@NoProtocol they are by far my favourite bananas. but there's a bad side to them, the peel is particularly thin, and as they ripen it tends to rip. i made banana bread with them once.....it was the best banana bread i've ever had.
Europe is . . . different, let's say. Different broadcast standards. Astrud Gilberto is classic. There's also a version of "The Girl from Ipanema" in which she sings in English, counterpoint to Joao Gilberto, who sings the Portuguese. the "Hug" commercial wa amusing because of the dance moves. Not a big surprise, but unexpected too. The "OBI" commercial with the dog being sucked down the drain made me chuckle, largely due to the dog owner's reaction.
2:45 - Vegetarian restaurants since 1898? I'm guessing business must've been very slow during the first, let's say, 90 years. 😄 3:22 - You're assuming that they fitted two more seats in the Smart Fortwo, which isn't the case. The Forfour has a completely different chassis, it's front-engined instead of rear-engined like the Fortwo and it's obviously bigger. 🙂
Japanese commercials in a European commercials compilation would have been weird :D (but of course, I get your point!). I don't have A TV for more than 20 years so I don't know how commercials looks like now but I still remember the Canal+ one (I'm French), so I guess they succeeded making it memorable. I found the vodafone and Heinz ones very fun too.
I love listening to songs in languages I don’t understand Try Florence Adooni - Mam Pe’ela Su’ure (I don’t even know which language this is) Mayra Andrade - Ilha de Santiago Stromae - L’enfer Thé Magrebhan - Anziilli
The ketchup one I saw before. Feel like it could have been a superbowl commercial but I remember laughing cause he didn't mean for her to hit it the way she did but that's what she though when hitting to get ketchup.
International music in another language suggestion - There is a song from the Ali soundtrack ( Salif Kita - Tomorrow) very powerful feeling of loss the first time I heard it even though I didn't know the lyrics.
The ketchup one is Czech, but originally it comes from a Swedish movie.
Food ads are country specific in Europe , but soap ads are basically same.

Their shows aren't called concerts, they call them Rituals and they call their music "Amplified History". Can be a spiritual experience listening to them.
Not at all what I was expecting! Very interesting. I see why they’re not referred to as concerts. Looks like an experience
@@NoProtocol The live performances from "Lifa" are the "go to". Anoana and Norupo have great Music Videos. Would love to see a video from you about this group. Thanks for looking into them 🤙✌️
6:59 Czech guy here.
Yeah, it was on all national TVs
And back then (if I remember correctly) we had only couple TV channels, but it was on all.
Keep it up and greetings from Austria 👋
Music recommendation 🤔Heilung Norupo which helped me a lot to get over the loss of close family, probably the closest thing you can get to ancient European music. The name of the band means healing in german.
3:14 well they didn't squeezed 2 more seats on a Smart, this is just based on Renault Twingo that is a four seater
In the Netherlands you can see those (Heinz) commercials after 9 o'clock in the evening. So not during the day
Absolutely loved your reactions to this!
I watch that commercial probably 4 times a year
I love creative commercial. There are also many banned commercials that are really funny.
bananas, particularly a variety we call "apple bananas", are one of my favourite fruits.
i like them so much i have a small banana forest i planted years ago.
Just looked up “apple bananas”, I like this small variety. Tastier
@@NoProtocol
they are by far my favourite bananas.
but there's a bad side to them, the peel is particularly thin, and as they ripen it tends to rip.
i made banana bread with them once.....it was the best banana bread i've ever had.
Europe is . . . different, let's say.
That Heinz commercial was absolutely wild. EU commercials really go hard.
He wants it to be treated like a bottle of Ketchup, and thinks of "shaking" up and down. And she handles Ketchup bottles differently...
That didn’t even hit me until you said “that last one could be so dark”
i LOVED it...."Dad, i'm pregnant"....."ooops"
2:45 - Vegetarian restaurants since 1898? I'm guessing business must've been very slow during the first, let's say, 90 years. 😄
3:22 - You're assuming that they fitted two more seats in the Smart Fortwo, which isn't the case.
I found the vodafone and Heinz ones very fun too.
that ketchup commercial might be the greatest thing I've ever seen
7:05 The Heinz commercial was apparently from Czech television.
Good job recognizing Czech!
I love listening to songs in languages I don’t understand
Try Florence Adooni - Mam Pe’ela Su’ure (I don’t even know which language this is)
Mayra Andrade - Ilha de Santiago
Stromae - L’enfer
Thé Magrebhan - Anziilli
The ketchup commercial reached Sweden 😂 think we even dubbed it
The ketchup one I saw before. Feel like it could have been a superbowl commercial but I remember laughing cause he didn't mean for her to hit it the way she did but that's what she though when hitting to get ketchup.
The new Smart is just a Renault... 😂
Regarding bananas, they were made that shape by banana growers who cultivated them that way. 11-)
4:11 p.m.
International music in another language suggestion - There is a song from the Ali soundtrack ( Salif Kita - Tomorrow) very powerful feeling of loss the first time I heard it even though I didn't know the lyrics.
