I had a Lada Niva in the mid 90s in Tasmania and went to Bluestone Bay only one track in and it was amazing going down, while in the bay 2 LW discoverys came down and the owners were quite shocked to find me there, asking was there an easier way in.
They couldn't believe that I had come down the same track. They had taken near enough an hour to get down, they quite honestly didn't believe me that I came down the same track.
Going back up was amazing as well.
Well done Niva.
Lada is the best!
Niva, best made car ever. A simple car for every life situation. The Lada got all what you really need in a car. This was a really cool and interesting test, nice! Really love the old 1600. i buyed myself a new brand new Niva back in 2016 as a daily. I‘m still happy with it and it makes a lot of fun.
and it drinks like gopnik family at friday evening party:-)) they are hungry, but they are extremly useful in russia winter, since you need heat for yourself, and it heats as hell(not suprising if you consider the amount of gasoline or vodka, that the engine uses:-))
Yes i agree...i also have a diesel kia retona...but lada niva is much better vehicle
I have owned three Lada Niva's. One of the most underrated 4WD's ever. One of mine was fitted with Firestone 6.50x16 SAT's. Gave it over 11inches of clearance under the rear diff. Owned one of them while living in Australia for a while. On one trip north of Sydney, was being followed by a Toyota Troopie fitted with a turbo, front and rear ARB lockers and BFG Mud Terrains. My Lada had road tyres. Troopie got stuck trying to follow me.
Thanks for this, was tossing up between these two vehicles
Glad we could help!
Never thought I'd see a Lada on this channel! What a nice surprise
1:15 A grave mistake that is stuck almost as a myth among western journalists.
Lada Niva is not based on Fiat components nor it has anything remotely close with that! Sigh!
It was completely ingenious soviet design top to bottom, with the only exception being the engine block, but even that was in the end so thoroughly reworked that the Lada's 1600 engine has nothing to do with Fiat's 1500s engine!
Dash was fiat as was 5 speed gearbox
I know nothing about the Lada Niva but in regards to the Jimny you have to disconnect the sway bar if you want it to flex, otherwise when one wheel travels upwards so does the other. I've done many tests of this on different obstacles and the difference between the amount of wheel lift on uneven terrain is huge.
"Solid axles tend to be less flexible than independant setups". Since when? The jimny just happens to have the least flexible solid axle design ever. P.s. rti scores are done with a 20 degree ramp, not 10, for anyone who wants to use these numbers as a comparison with any other published rti scores.
jimny is not the worst, but ridgid axles are having way more flex than independent setups generally, but you just see how the niva had more flex even with independent front, but comparing jimny to niva in case of flex? that is comparing it to the ultimate!!!
Jimny has good flex it’s just restricted from the sway bars which are easily removed
Jimnys on stock suspension is very restricted on flex. Almost no Jimnys run stock suspension though and articulation is much improved on pretty much every aftermarket 2” lift kits. Even better with sway bars disconnected of course.
Lada Niva, a good design let down by patchy build quality, with front and rear lockers would probably out perform more modern 4x4s.
no probably, surely, it was the first vehicle on the south pole!!! it was made to such things, not to look cool
@@garage5125 It doesn't make sense. Jimny will definitely go further and will be more reliable than that ancient piece of crap from Lada.
Lada Niva is a great car ... Just one problem, the cylinder head gasket is due at around 62100 emails! Rust ... The Lada also has to be cared for with loving care ...
I only have Suzuki Jimny FJ. and I am very happy with it. less electronics than the new GJ. The FJ (predecessor) also has old school technology! ;)
Greetings from Germany ;)
Jimny is awesome. Had a 2000 Jimny and I loved it, sadly the chassy started to rust very badly because the previous owner. I still miss it!
Great video. The old Niva is very capable. Had some fun in the late 80's on the old Russian tractor tyres on Melbourne tramlines :-)
I have a niva...great offroad and i find it very acceptable in city...the only problem is a bit high on fuel
what you expect? its russian:-))
I find the turning radius a bigger problem tbh. Even worse in 4x4. Still never gonna give up on my lovely niva
sell it for a 1.7 diesel sadly now it only comes with 4 door bronto
This is the hard hitting journalism we are here for. Obviously you guys didn't have any fun with this one lol.
In terms of global influence, the order goes: The BBC > stories about Jimnys > The Washington Post
Lol you can still buy Lada Niva brand new top of the range for 10K and the Suzuki... so expensive.
And yeah there’s a mistake, Niva was launched in USSR, not Russia.
The Soviet Union, it was a Union of republics, not one country, Russia at that time was called the RSFSR, "Niva" as they did in Tolyatti then, and now they do there, so your comment was idle. Also think about why 70 years ago, in the West, the inhabitants of the USSR were called Russian?
I had a niva back in 95, sweet little offroader
How do you get this in Australia!!!
Is the Lada with stock suspension?
I wish I could get a suzuki Jimny here in canada I would love one
Sir, I wanna buy Jimny short than this Jimny, Where I get sir..?
Mmmm the question I would ask is did you engage the Lada niva,s standard centre diff lock in the tough of war
Oh yes! I have got One, 1992, awsome, unstoppable!
If they had a right hand drive model I would buy one now
Do you still have the Lada Nina? I remember that thing before the old SAU days!
Haha - this is Lada number 6, I think that was still number 1. James
CarAdvice.com those where the good old days 😊 glad to see you’re doing well James. I remember you picking me up for a cruise day when I was 14. I still use one of your lines today to my mates 😂
Solid axles are less flexible?! That's the whole point of a solid axle. Jimny just has less suspension travel in stock form, but you will definitely get more flex than you ever could in an IFS with an upgrade.
thats not caused by ridgid axles, that is just a fact than the travel is just small, no matter if it is ridgid or not, you saw the niva rear is ridgid and it is flexing more than new land rover defender with all independent suspention
Do the test again, this time against the 2021 Lada Niva Legend
The first time I've liked a Jimny competitor in one of these head 2 heads
Lada is the Ak 47 of soviet design .sadly Soviets never marketed this masterpiece as they did to AK47.
LADA GIVES WINGS TO THE DESIRES OF MIDDLE CLASS MOTORIST.
can i have one in india
New nivas have fuel injection. Maybe try again with one of those?
See which of the two can climb the ramp in stock form until they tip over. I know, the Niva can’t, no lockers or traction control. The Suzuki is the better offroader in stock form
Central diff lock on the Niva! I have It I love it
Jimny proves that Choco Fudges can be a great image to the public
extra options is ac and snowplow^^
You best be I’m going straight to Carsales to look at ladas
There's not many around, not in good condition anyway. Good luck! - James
I need Jimny shorter than this Jimny how can I get it.....
I'll share this with Team Lada on Facebook
I have had 2 ladas 4x4 over the years and were brilliant with the costs of other 4x4 it makes sense but toyota loverswouldnt be seen dead in 1
As for your introduction, the new niva also has low range!
the old one had one too, and centre diff lock as well, some of them were front+rear LSDs or differential locks too
I own 1996 Lada Niva 1.7 (2121) 4x4 and honesly its better ❤
Man I’m gonna buy black lada
@سينان كرم محمدى in the end I didn't buy one hahaha I did get a land rover
U guys r lucky the shackles didn't break. They're on backwards.
Mahindra pikup Vs ldv pikup
Lada is Russian proof, Suzuki is not! But, nothing is better than a Pinzgauer.
You can still buy a Niva?
Not in Australia but in Russia and a few other countries you can
@@abelzlatkovic65 yes, but under diffrent name, lada 4x4 or lada niva legend, it is just slightly renoved thing, but the base is the same
New D-Max vs New BT-50
I thought both are basically the same vehicle?
AND THE LADA COST 10K DOLLARS LESS IN MY COUNTRY
Suzuki Jimny jb74 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Suzuki Jimny BEST
price of niva in russia 8500 usd
Jimny: Easy Mode
Lada: Hardcore Mode
lada niva have been to south pole, so no doubt it is on diffrent level, i know those things great
I rather have that ugly beast Niva then a modern SUV that would break apart in the first hole on the road.
Why jimmy have samer tires?
the final test...well thats test nr. 2 then.
What a bullshit show???
Who disliked this???
Вау, праворульная Нива
Stupidest tests I have ever seen. We were invited by the Lada club to join them on an easy trail, they had a seriously hard time keeping up with the Gen 3 Jimny's. They are hopeless off-road.
you test on off road not this bulshit test
lada proved it on south pole in -40 to -70 degree weather, you will talk diffrently when your new offroader will not survive this harsh environment( you maybe even wont talk, if your car will let go in -60 degrees in siberia weather, where the lada is just going for normal hangout with bit more vodka in the tank...)
I thought the Niva would've fallen apart because it's a poorly made Russian 4x4, based on an ancient 1960's FIAT Chassis
No it's not it was tough and still going the Jimmy won't last 10 years
well than pretty much all western offroaders are made out of paper... you dont know anything about ladas, the chassis is basically a ladder frame connected to the cab, so it remains like unibody, but it is very strong compared to unibody, basically reinforced unibody chassis
also the best car in your language is some BMW crap that will let go in 100 k. the lada niva was cheaply made from comfort site, but high quality from inside. and thats the reason why the lada niva was the first vehicle on south pole, not any jimny or ford thingy crap that will not start, fall apart and let you freeze as your engine head explodes
@@greglockhart8315 Supercar Blondie's husband, Nik has a Jimny.
@@garage5125 the only thing that came close to the Lada was the Toyota Hilux, just as tough and tanky of an offroader.
Any Lada is a piece of shit in comparison to any Suzuki.
