The one with the best tires. The fact that the Jimny went anywhere at all with those tires on it is impressive. It doesn't matter which vehicle you have, the tires are what actually grab the surface you're driving on.
I owned a Lada Niva many years ago while living in the UK. Sadly, I had to sell it prior to emigrating to Canada. I belonged to an off road club at that time which one day held an event that involved a horrendous obstacle course. A Range-rover in front of me got badly stuck. My Niva easily got around it. The important advantage the Niva has is its CENTRE LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL. It makes this wonderful little 4x4 pretty much unstoppable!
I wish they still sold the Niva in Canada. I purchased the last one with a regular carburetor in Canada in '96, everything else was fuel injection. When they decided to pull out of the Canadian market in '98, it was a sad day for me. The GM fuel injectors they were using couldn't pass Canadian pollution control standards. I miss my old Niva. If they ever do sell them here again, I'd love to buy another one. Fantastic video!
Well atleast Eastern Europe is good for something. An absolute abundance of Nive, UAZ and other soviat vehicle parts, accessories and full cars themselves.
Why would you import a Niva? Just buy the Jimny. Its similar price but far superior. If it had proper tires, would do better in these tests compared to the Niva.
Overall, I would say the Uaz 469 was the best, and by a noticeable amount. It rarely needed any speed or momentum to go through or over anything. The Niva did very well, but required more RPM and vehicle forward speed to get through in many cases. The Jimny was the most refined, but was suffering from street oriented tires in this one. If all three could be outfitted with the same make and model of tire in their respective sizes (I know... probably impossible) I think the Jimny would make a much better showing of itself. It looks like a fun day for everyone!

Russian vehicles are designed mostly in times of USSR, and in that time everything Soviet Union built was built for war and any civilian vehicles or devices were just derivatives from military tech and machinery. That's why those UAZ and Niva vehicles are unbelievably good at ploughing through harsh off-road and are extremely simply built. A man can literally disasseble the engine on his knee on the side of a road and can use some metal sheets and a torchlight to made some repairs to those cars. No new modern vehicle can boast such endurance and cheap maintenance. All vehicles nowadays come with a capricious and gentle electronics filled to the brim.

A fun demonstration. Of course tires make the biggest difference. Less weight helps a lot too! Jimny was impressive none-the-less on the weakest tires. However, I wonder how much the Jimny's traction control helped in controlling unnecessary wheel spin.

Awesome video, looks like great fun! You can still buy a Jimny as a commercial vehicle (no back seats) in Greece for €21000 and a new Niva for €14000. From what I see in the video the stock Jimny with a set of M/T tires wouldn't be too bad! As someone who has driven a fair bit off road I see the same mistake many times. People are using low range where it is not necessary. It doesn't allow you to carry that extra bit of momentum that many times makes the difference between overcoming an obstacle and looking for a tow strap 😉
Thanks for your comment! Here in Moldova a normal Jimny, like this in video costs 21000€. And a new Niva for 10000€. On my channel there are some videos with this Jimny on MT tires

When I had a UAZ, I was dreaming about a Jimny. But then even a Niva looked like a dream of comfort, compared to that brute. However, for true off-road, UAZ is the strongest of any of these three. But remember to fill the trunk with spare parts, and to tow a tank of fuel with you.
Great video! i'm a fan of the lada nivas but i drive a 2012 jimny but have never put it under such harsh testing conditions. Where is this? RussFed? Both UAZ and Niva are too expensive to run if you live in an oil-imports dependant country, like here in Peru. The new Jimny is way cheaper to run but too expensive to buy and too many electronics which make it more expensive to mantain. It would be awesome if Lada comes up with a cheaper to run Niva.
It depends on the style of driving. I mean average Niva consumes 8-9 liters of 92 gasoline if you don't overload the engine. In other cases it can eat more than 15l.
Lada niva is over engineered to endure far more than most other 4x4s. Simple, basic and very durable. Parts are cheap and available nearly everywhere. This is the video Suzuki doesn't want you to see. Lada pulls it out fairly easily. I live in Colombia and I'm planning to get a Lada Niva because here if you haven't got a good 4x4, you're screwed. Love Toyotas but they aren't cheap. Lada has plenty of parts available.
All three look very good off-road with the proper tires. The Russian cars are very tough and solid, but I'd take the Jimny because it's the more refined vehicle. I wouldn't be driving it in the mud all the time, and the Niva and the Uaz aren't exactly chick magnets.
Especially Uaz, for sure is not the car to impress a girl, but it is very different and you will give a lot of attention with it in a modern city)) Lada Niva the same, but it is more comfortable to drive in a city. Jimny is perfect for everything!
And don't forget about reliability. It's not a strong point of russian/soviet vehicles, especially in comparison with Japan 😉 When UAZ and Niva would stop, Jimny will go, and go, and go))
Russia should seriously consider exporting their cars to India. Given the current market of SUV's in India, the Niva and UAZ will sell like hot cakes. And there is currently no proper body on frame 4x4 suv being offered under INR 2 million (2 million rub), so there is huge open Market for Niva and UAZ there. Anyways, much love ❤️❤️ to all Russian brothers and sisters from India 🇮🇳❤️💪💪💪❤️🇷🇺

hey guys! off road tires for UAZ and Niva, road tires for Jimny! Contact with soil makes all the difference. Impressive performance of Lada Niva, though. Should be put in production again with updated technology.
@@paklons it really dosen't need modern technology. Modern technology means the car will become complicated to fix, less reliable etc which is the opposite of what the lada niva is meant to represent- a bare bones basic offroader car that costs basically nothing to buy and repair. Edit: Also it is still in production, they released a new model either this year or last year.
Would Take the Jimny. Better reliability, better fuel Economy, better handling especially on roads, and way more comfort for a just a bit less Offroad ability than the niva. The niva may stay the first in Offroad but the jimny stays second. And its the way better as a whole. (Its my opinion, not a fact(!))

You still have to get to the off-road and return, and of these cars, only Jimmy will do it reliably. It is incorrect to compare designs from the 70s and a modern car. By the way, the 2021 Vitara is very good in the forest on the right tires, I drove it hunting.

True!
@@DriveQ sadly though, many decades later it does not redeem their piss poor quality. Whole world and car manufacturers moved on yet our cars are flash frozen in time. Many will say that perfection does not require evolution, but that would be lies :D

And to think FIAT sold the NIVA design to the russians ,where could they be if they continued to develop the model...good to see all of them trying to be better than other !
No they sold or licenced the design of Fiat 124 and 500 and SSSR further developed it ....Niva was a original new design unlike the engine
all 3 are good, but they need good diff locks like the g mercedes and jimny needs a body lift and better tires
The niva and uaz have difflock you can even see them activate it at 03:00
Even the jimny uses abs/esp to fake diffs.
niva has only central diff lock, Uaz hasn't diff locks
@@DriveQ i guess low range then at 03:00 ?
g mercedes has 3 locks, thats why the g is so good. uaz with 3 looks could be as good or better, because uaz has more flexible suspension. mercedes with portal axels is an other story.
yes
A fun demonstration. Of course tires make the biggest difference. Less weight helps a lot too! Jimny was impressive none-the-less on the weakest tires. However, I wonder how much the Jimny's traction control helped in controlling unnecessary wheel spin.

Simply fell in love with Niva after watching this. Wish it was available in India.
When I was in Afghanistan we had a Uaz id driven one previously in Mongolia it took a bit of injinuity to get it to run but we bombed all over the FOB in it, much easier to park then the MRAP :) But id take a new Lada thank you....
Great comment !!!
¡Esta batalla será legendaria!
@@DriveQ only 10k for a new Niva 🧐
That's not true at all, unless youre hitting an obstacle at 40kmh+ there would be no benefit to high range

It is filmed in Republic of Moldova 😊✌️
It depends on the style of driving. I mean average Niva consumes 8-9 liters of 92 gasoline if you don't overload the engine. In other cases it can eat more than 15l.
Congrats, from Brazil!

Thank you!
Good job to you all👏, in my opinion the Niva did well.
Thank you very much!
Niva is simply the best
The Niva's driver agree with you)))
You need mud tires and lockers for your Jimny. It's a great 4x4 but suffers in comparison only due to the all-terrain tires filling up on gumbo mud.

Merci! Je vais prendre en compte vos conseils !

Lada is the king 🤴
Lada 40 years old model and jimmy 2020 model
❤️ lada niva
All three look very good off-road with the proper tires. The Russian cars are very tough and solid, but I'd take the Jimny because it's the more refined vehicle. I wouldn't be driving it in the mud all the time, and the Niva and the Uaz aren't exactly chick magnets.
Especially Uaz, for sure is not the car to impress a girl, but it is very different and you will give a lot of attention with it in a modern city)) Lada Niva the same, but it is more comfortable to drive in a city. Jimny is perfect for everything!

Russia should seriously consider exporting their cars to India. Given the current market of SUV's in India, the Niva and UAZ will sell like hot cakes. And there is currently no proper body on frame 4x4 suv being offered under INR 2 million (2 million rub), so there is huge open Market for Niva and UAZ there. hey guys! off road tires for UAZ and Niva, road tires for Jimny! Contact with soil makes all the difference. Impressive performance of Lada Niva, though. Should be put in production again with updated technology.
Lada still produce Niva nowadays
Good 4x4 and good looks
agree!
@@paklons it really dosen't need modern technology. Modern technology means the car will become complicated to fix, less reliable etc which is the opposite of what the lada niva is meant to represent- a bare bones basic offroader car that costs basically nothing to buy and repair.
Edit: Also it is still in production, they released a new model either this year or last year.
that new model is just a facelift to Chevrolet Niva. Anyway, this model in video remain the most charismatic Lada Niva
Would Take the Jimny. Better reliability, better fuel Economy, better handling especially on roads, and way more comfort for a just a bit less Offroad ability than the niva. The niva may stay the first in Offroad but the jimny stays second. And its the way better as a whole.
(Its my opinion, not a fact(!))
the new niva has better handling than jimny
@@DriveQ You mean the Niva Travel? Wouldnt call this a real niva. Its more a capable SUV but i think it couldnt compete with THE niva or the Jimny.
all Niva has independent front suspension, so this improve handling. Even the driver of this Jimny said this.

Lada niva 👏👏👏
You still have to get to the off-road and return, and of these cars, only Jimmy will do it reliably. It is incorrect to compare designs from the 70s and a modern car. By the way, the 2021 Vitara is very good in the forest on the right tires, I drove it hunting.
