As a private landlord I would absolutely get any modifications done for my tenants ❤
Glad you would my previous landlord would not even though the bathroom was from the 80s he failed to see he would get a brand new bathroom fot free
And he failed to see future tenants would benefit disabled or able body
It’s great plus if you are a landlord they will try and ask for a second charge on the property if you sell in the future but you can refuse ..esp re king term tenants ..
I doubt my landlord would. I was assessed and needed bars to help me at the door, I can’t use the shower as my arthritic hands can’t turn the large square shower tap it’s awkward ( square is not a good shape for taps to turn on /off why are they not round .. it’s ridiculous!)

I have been bedroom bound for over 12 years n an upstairs room. About 10 or more years ago I was assessed and told I was eligible for the grant and that I needed a downstairs bedroom/wetroom but there was a waiting list of about a year as they were backed up with work fine says I. Waited the year planning how to decorate and getting really excited as the time ticked down. Fast forward to the end of the year I had reached the top of the queue and then was told Ooops sorry the £31,000 grant won't cover the work sorry!! So here I am sat in the same room that I was then and no help or hope left.
That's awful ....Im so sorry....you should get in touch with your local mp and see if they can get involved to help you get what you need.
@@goldiegirl7247 I mentioned it when I asked for help with PIP and he said he was sorry there is nothing he can do. Of course now it would cost even more so I have no chance of ever getting something done.

We have a wet room but the flooring is supposed to be non slip but isn’t any more, thoughts on trying to get just flooring replaced😊
Go back to tge DFG
If flooring has failed thry must put right ..future changes are factored in and replacement of equipment

I have severe bipolar it cripples me
I'm wanting to apply as I cannot climb in and out of bath to bathe or shower anymore due to spine and other jount issues. Hoping I can get a walj in shower and higher sink and toilet as they are very low. Thanks for the information.

Its a waste of time asking for grant for disabled people as I apply for a grant and was told im.not entitled to.one I wanted to get stair lift as I find it difficult getting upstairs can you help
Financial assess is means tested even so people still get help but self fund the rest
Stairlifts are not covered by DFG normally as they require maintenance fees and servicing for safety. They are one off grants and don't cover ongoing costs. Your options would be 2 bannisters, moving bed downstairs and maybe addition of downstairs bathroom (if possible) or getting on Housing list for disabled appropriate property if you are not safe to be in your property.

I didn’t pay for repairs or maintanence but had to hand it back when I moved
You can buy reconditioned ones but you are responsible for it.
During election period up to May you cannot contact local councillors but MPs should be able to help but they prefer you to make a complaint first if that is appropriate
Local radio yes ..disability rights can help too they help , spinal injury’s association have an advocate team also
Can an adult autistic apply for a sensory room? I feel like an extra room for crafts and peace. But i have a living room already?
It would depend on what your OT assessment said you needed. It's only usually for children with very severe over-stimulation symptoms.
Hello stu hope your well, quick question really are the government doing away with the work capability assessment and work related activities component as Iv heard that people on the lower rate the work capability component will will be asked to seek work, but if your on the higher rate you won’t be asked to look for work, am I hearing this right. Thank you for any replies.
Hi Helen, yes this correct, the WCA will be dropped altogether and assessment for fitness to work will be based on a person being on PIP as well.
@@StuartMcGoo , Thnx stu, so if someone is on the high rate but doesn’t get pip, they would have that high rate component stopped ?. In other words if you don’t get pip they stopping the high rate ?.
Lincolnshire CC wot a joke DFG line never answered, no voicemail space as box full up. If u cannot even talk to somebody to apply then how us one supposed to even get the grant?
First step is council Occupational therapyassess they then put you to DFG ..on waiting list ..which is prioritised by need ..nice your slot comes up yiu get a financial assess before architect draws up tge plans ..a DFG OT then takes over your case
Any ot in the council can do an assess for you ..establishing the needs of a DFG ..
That’s the only route ..
DFG dept is hard to access that’s why you need an it ..just call adult social care and ask for an aOT asses ..that’s the first step
I second what was said here. Also try writing to the council or raising with GP and social prescriber if your surgery has one.
Lincolnshire county Council are flipping awful. Just love chasing people for money.

Hello Stu, a great video and source of information. I am trying to go through this process as we speak. To complicate things more i am trying to do this to convert a part of my house for my mum to move from where she lives in Essex, to come to Wales, I have done all the things you suggest I have spoken to her GP, I have spoken to my local authority/council, I have got the care commission involved, and yet I still can’t say I have got things moving in the right direction, I’m confused and I don’t know what more to do to get things going forwards, any advice would be very much appreciated indeed!

@@melanieah5501she doesn’t have any savings or pension, she’s in a tiny council place, and it’s too small for a wheelchair hardly enough room to use a walking frame either, she’s gets PIP
@@sacredangel77 I feel for her .wheelchair users end up in places not suitable ..my place isn’t really big enough either I use wheelchair full time ..an Ot Can assess her and write a needs statement , so housing can put her on a list for something more suitable ..there may be a wait . Some councils have extra care flats for wheelchair users as a temporary stop gap ..
Issue is councils no longer building homes ie bungalows or suitable flats or if they are just not enough ..speak to shelter also for further advice
The issue with DFG funding is their is a limit and depending on the property , it may not be cost affective ..you can live in a house and use a wheelchair but you’ll need a chair at the top and a stair lift ..or straight up lift type thing ..
