Well videos like this arent exactly helping either mate, I think this video will get 100,000 plus views, over the last 2 months the average views is like 50-60k, I think it will get a lot more than 100,000. I will be surprised if it doesn't. and if it is your attainable dream car, people keep making videos like this, and it causes the market to get fucced up and for them to go up in price brother.

I always loved the relative subtlety of the E39 M5. This one looks totally stock, apart from being a little lower. And all the better for it! So much more understated and classy looking than the current M cars. Nowadays they are attention seeking cars for immature show offs. What a pity.
Who doesn’t love an old school m5 - I used to own a e39 535i m sport which I totally adored, then my mate brought an e39 m5 - both cars totally lovable and very good , excellently engineered , fantastic to drive .
As an owner it’s always great to see nice examples of these. I don’t subscribe to the ‘BMW parts or nothing’ mantra some owners have. This particular one is dream material! Ideal would be black over caramel...

It’s not imola red, it’s misano or verona red. Imola red was only for the e36 m3 or as individual selection. This new 2021 m3 is the first one since the e36 which has it as a standard m color.
@@josefinkjellsson110 Nope, My 525, both my 530's and my M5 were imola red as per the vin-decoders and by the sticker on the shock tower and none of them were individual, they were M-sports tho and Imola was an available color for all M-sport E39's. The car in the vid is re-painted, it can be all kinds of red but it sure looks Imola to me. Verona och Misano were not e39 colors, but since it's been re-sprayed it can be any red as said, but you're wrong about the individual thing.
Beautiful car, love that it's stealthy about it's extra performance. The colour appears to be Imola red, period correct but no idea of it was available on the 5 series cars. Had that on my E46, was a limited colour to M Sport and M Performance cars only..
I had an E39 520i SE and every time I saw it I stopped for a moment to admire the design. The guys over at Carwow have been playing with a G30 M5 which has been tuned upto an incredible 1,000 hp.

I recall the E60 was one of the last generation to benefit from old school company car policies - a few nicely specced 550i got delivered but sold immediately as the tax was horrendous
JayEmm on Cars it honestly didn’t matter to my then employer. I went to the MD and said I wanted a 530 sport and he said “bugger that get an M5 for gods sake”. So I did. When I left I looked at taking it on and found they were paying £1500 a bloody month for it. More than my mortgage!!

I built that car. The colour is imola red 2. The pads are pagid rs29’s, 10psi pulley, and meth kit...some people ffs 🤣 What the video doesn’t show you fans is the underside is clean enough to eat your food off and painted to match the body.
On the gearstick topic, I think that the gearbox mount condition is crucial on bmw. The stick is mounted to the body, so any play between gearbox and engine turns to poor feeling gear changes. The improvement in shift quality from just fitting new gearbox mounts on my e39 540 was staggering.
Having owned a couple of E39s I'm intrigued by the supercharge route on these ... part of me feels that they are at the point where these need to be kept standard and cherished as an absolute classic, whilst part of me wants to fit big superchargers and go sideways on track lol
I bought a supercharger kit from America last year for my vxr8 for £3500. I was surprised when it made 750hp on a local Dyno and has totally transformed the car.
Very nice! I love those Holdens, the Aussies certainly knew how to make a proper muscle car. Its a far better car than any US efforts and uses the only decent thing found in those US cars, the V8. A muscle car with decent brakes, handling and far better build quality that is far better suited to UK/European roads. The VXR8 was like a modern Lotus Carlton, very rapid acceleration, very high top speed in a very practical saloon car with loads of boot and interior room. All with the added bonus of that epic engine rumble! You're a lucky guy, those motors were rapid as standard, with 750bhp it must be insane haha! You should get Jay to show the beast on here, i dont think hes shown any Australian motors?

Nice review J. I do love older generation models that people have looked after passionately but also sprinkled just a little bit of fairyfundust on them. I would love the supercharger kit for my old car but it's apparently a bit of a job, money wise too. Reportedly it's a hoot of a difference(though not nearly as much as 560hp in the m5) but I'm not sure the 10k price tag is justified for mine. I like all your reviews but this kind is my fave 👍. Keep them coming
I never heard of any BMW with a gear box that wasnt great in the 80's or 90's. That's something that happened later with the newer models. Same with the steering.

So mine sounds like a diesel most of the time, I've had people walk around confused, made me chuckle. I should put ''525d'' sticker instead of the M. You can check my acc if you see how it sounds in my car, or search it up on YT 'vanos noise' for more, I've heard Jeremy on Top Gear say the E60 M5 sounds like a diesel, probably because of the vanos too hah
I got the pleasure of taking a ride in Steve dinans personal imola red e39 m5 s3 supercharged. (621 bhp) It has been the only car that has truly frightened me. I had the chance to buy it but i passed because it was nearing 100k miles. At that point after being beaten on for some many years, it wasn’t worth the $50k asking price. Amazing car though and I’d love to get a cleaner example that’s not supercharged one day 😍

Crossplane V8, supercharged, 550hp, manual. Basically VXR8 Bathurst S for businessman of the late 1990s.
Not that it's a bad thing, anyway.
The M5 has four camshafts and 32 valves. Whereas the GM V8's have one camshaft and only 16 valves.
