  • North Conway is the hot bed for ice climbing in New England. Classics like the Black Dike, Repentance and Dracula pull in climbers during New Hampshire's long winters. Crawford Notch, commonly known as Frankenstein, is home to dozens of steep route such as Standard Right and Drop Line that were the standard back in the late 60's and early 70's, but still remain difficult test pieces.

Climbed with Bayard a few times and he is not only a fantastic climber and guide but he is also a great guy. Some of the best climbing I've done was with him and his guide partners. If you are ever up in the Mt. Washington Valley look up Cathedral Mountain Guides, you will not be disappointed.

Just came across the OR videos, they're great! Spotted the dinosaur at 0.44 as well!

Very nicely done video. Yes, I saw the dinosaur, but I don't want the gear. I used to climb A LOT (I did everything on this video except Smear), but that was in the 70's and 80's. I'm too old now for ice. Enjoy it while you're young!

very "80s" sound, crisply done photography, austere setting.....this vid makes it all look way too smooth....[laughs]......but that's ok ----if folks saw the days/episodes that are not so fun, they wouldnt be pumped to go out and do it ! (well, most wouldn't)
