An easy, cheap, and elegant way to prevent damage to hardwood flooring by using these casters. I use it on my Herman Miller Aeron chair and have had zero issues. The gliding is smooth and feels solid. This is WAY better than the stock plastic cheap wheels that come with a $1500 office chair and this solution is much cheaper than upgrading.

I bought a set on AliExpress for a very low price (~$10), they look exactly like yours, but the wheels are too smooth, the chair won't stay still, possibly because I'm light weight, so I had to change back to the original wheels.

Thanks for bringing up the Ikea difference. I was about to buy some and double checked my casters because of what you said sure enough they are shorter than normal. Learned my lesson from an ikea desk and chair. Never again

Awesome find! I have the same chair and I'm having a new house built. My office will have LVP, but I'm still concerned that years of rolling around a chair will cause wear. Soft casters like this should work great!
Great pro tip! However, I have those same wheels but my 10 year old LAMINATE floors need replacing especially where my office chair is. The joints in the flooring have cracked due to the wheels rolling over them. I'm putting in new VINYL floors this month but I will be getting a floor mat because all 3 floor stores I went to suggested it. Real HARDWOOD floors might be different though. Cheers.

As I’ve just ordered a new chair I started looking into mats since we have wood floors and we’re renting. I saw something I hadn’t realized which is that the mats themselves can damage the floors underneath and cause discoloration. I saw one recommendation for felt covered castors. Has anyone tried the felt castors vs these in line or any other rubber castors?

They also make versions with a locking brake, which would alleviate the accidental rolling thing. Once you're in a position just lock the wheels.
One thing I learn from this video is, the caster in my chair must have been broken. It's a new Amazon basis office chair that I just received and I started searching for caster replacement the instant I assembled and sat on it. It's not just making noises, it doesn't move smoothly at all. The wheels feel like stuck when I try to move around and take me to the wrong direction just like those broken shopping carts. I thought it's due to the hardwood floor which I have never used before because each single wheel seems in good shape when it's bearing no weight, but I guess that's not the issue at all after watching your video.
OK. I guess one highly possible reason is that the apartment comes with a textured hardwood flooring which has tiny ridges everywhere. Why! I disklike this place the momoent I moved in (didn't have a chance to visit in person when signing the lease). I have been trying to make peace with it but annoying things juts keep poping up.
Did you not put on the new wheels @ 1:03? Seems like you just added the old style back onto the chair.
Also, I have small sand grain dents similar to what you had on your floors. Did the roller blade casters help with that?

I found an office chair in a skip bin but it was missing a wheel. $30 later, these will be delivered Monday.

I bought a new chair and purchased a set of this type of wheel for it so my hardwood floor wouldn’t get scratched up. Only issue we’ve had is the chair moving when you try to sit down. My boyfriend went to sit in it the other night and it flew out from underneath him. Don’t know whether to put original wheels on it or put a mat on floor under it 🤷🏼♀️ really don’t want to do either. Is there any way to slow them down?

The generic Chinese ones don't seem to be the greatest quality from the reviews I've read, i.e. they seem fine but they break. The only quality brands seem to be Stealtho, Uniq, and Opttico, but am having trouble finding those outside of the US.
I've put these on my Herman Miller Aeron chair also. Have you found that the chair loses it's "bounce" after putting on rollerblades instead of the original wheels?
Did these new casters give you greater clearance between the floor and the bottom of the gas cylinder? I need more clearance. Have an original Aeron chair.

@@QH96 I got a sleeve that the gas cylinder fit into making it sit higher off the floor once you put the bases back on. Free from Crandall and it solved the problem. Still have not tried the rollerblade wheels.

I am getting wood (SPC) floors in my home office in the coming weeks, so having nice soft casters is going to be huge - as right now they would 100% scrape the flooring

Use brake parts cleaner with a straw attached. Regrease bearings with silicone or favorite flavor but not WD. Use ventilation.

1:40 Ikea is a European company. So they probably went with European standards. 10mm makes much more sense than 11mm, so I guess the standard is around that.

I highly advise not to buy these type of wheels, there is a good reason why chairs don't includes them (they dont want to be sued). Pretty much only disposable compagnies from amazon sells them.
They are serious safety hasards (they can pinch severely your foot if you don't wear shoes), I had to go get stitches on my foot because it got crushed, I gave a hard push to test the wheels on my hardfloor and my foot got compressed between the wheel (rolling and compressing upward) and the sharp wheel's metal frame. The pain was serious.
Damn... So far I've been ok tho!
