I use a thin rigid plastic carpet protector bought from Lidl. I prefer plastic as it's virtually indestructible and zero chance of shattering by accident.
Before trying it I thought exact the same thing. However, this wheel / mat combo gives enough friction to stay in place because all the wheels need about 1" of push before they all get aligned in the same direction to move smoothly.
Another relatable video brought to you by @BeatTheBush DIY 😂 Thankfully I have tiles but I'd surely want something like this if I lived in a place with hardwood or carpet.

There is absolutely no universe where I would spend over $400 for a carpet protector for my office chair. I'm going out on a limb here and guessing you got the item from the manufacturer for free to do a review. Thanks but no thanks.
The average adult male weighs 197 pounds, with the delta between their max ideal weight and 197 ranging from 23 to 30 pounds. That's not going to phase this glass on a hard surface. I'm 6'5 240+ and have used glass mats for years on hard surfaces. If you use them on carpet spanning a sag in the floor you could potentially run into a problem, but if that happens it's going to happen whether you're a healthy 165lbs or 200lbs.
I hate to state the obvious but a small Asian man vs a large desk bound person...on glass 😬. That transition of rolling off the edge of the glass on to carpet, there is no way a sheet of that survives a large person on wheels.

Interesting. The weather here makes it cold enough that my plastic ones crack after a few years of use. I've gone through 3-4 of them already.
Interesting product. I don't like the glass mat. I happen to enjoy the friction from chair mats which keep me from rolling back and forth.

Tiles? Do the grooves between the tiles getting the wheels stuck annoy you?
@@BeatTheBushDIY Nope. I barely feel the grooves here but some places might have that problem.
If I buy a tempered glass off market would that work aswell? Like a thick table top?! Haha
It might. You need it thick enough so it wont crack under weight. It wont be square-ish, and it wont have tapered edges.
I love my new wheels same as these
Same here. =D
I enjoy your videos, thanks!
Thank you!
How do you pay for all of the products you review?
I buy them with money in my bank account?
@@BeatTheBushDIY Are you a millionaire?
Lol, do you need to be to buy a chair mat?
@@BeatTheBushDIYin this day in age..... when you have to drop $200+ on something, yes...sometimes it feels like it. haha.

It may be a good product but a lot of people don't have $200-$500 for this
I suggest those people to watch my main channel www.youtube.com/@BeatTheBush it's about improving personal finances. =D
As a person of healthy weight this might work for you but i think the average american will crack this in seconds
It can withstand 1000 lb pressure, and warranted against cracks as long as you don't bang metal on it.

Indeed. Might be scary but you might check out their warranty.
They shatter easily.
No they don't
Good grief. We use SO MUCH PLASTIC! Packaging! Our poor planet…..
Some have excessive amounts but I remember this product having a reasonable amount considering it was transporting glass.
