I like to think that Vox was the one who really ruined their relationship (friendship or love, I don't know) and that's why Alastor is like that, in the same way, Vox could hide his guilt by starting to hate to Alastor because he beat him in a battle

Yes I know that Alastor is a bad guy. But that doesn’t mean it makes me hate him, he’s a lot better than Mammon cause he’s not a greedy big fat jerk. I wouldn’t change Alastor to become something he’s not or trade him for another deer man in red or different color.
