Ryan, I just finished your book. Well done. In your book, (section on The Jewish Canon), there’s an incredible claim; you claim that: The author of the original texts and oral traditions were called directly by God. What’s the evidence for such an assertion? Why not weigh the chances of objective proof-for example Bayesian probability-the likelihood that a ‘god’ inspired text as conjecture and subjective? There's zero evidence of 'god'. And what defines ‘god’? Ever watch Ancient Aliens? ...Here's a reply: Apologists bend over backward to square the circle. You make the claim that…”The books of Moses and the larger and shorter prophetic books clearly fit into the category of God’s direct authorship-and written or recorded based on the teachings of Israelite leaders.” Where’s any objective evidence of an empirical foundation of the later KJV’s evidence of provenance? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. There is Zero primary source evidence. Oral traditions? The KJV, which BTW, has thousands of issues not outlined in your book i.e. there’s no primary sources or corroborating historical attestations of miraculous accounts in the KJV or its predecessor texts. Quite the contrary. A big, big, problem for the KJV as an authority. Interesting. Is it ironic that Tyndale’s “Obedience” might have inspired the King on the one hand while forming much of the backbone for the KJV which in time would likely be the preferred translation for those most anti-hierarchical Protestant streams?
@@eddievangundy4510There is only One Head of the Church Christ! However, the King is God's Anointed Prince, and is responsible before God for the Health and Well-being of the Church in all lands that God has given the King to Judge, Protect, and Guide the People. A Christian King is Anointed with the Holy Oils by the Bishop and with this Anointing comes Responsibility, Grace and Wisdom to Protect not only the Civil Government of the People, but also the Holy Church in all the Lands God has given the King Authority over. Christian Kings in neither the East or the West were considered simple layman, but a clergy member in spite of not being a Bishop, Priest, or Deacon. This is True not only under the New Testament, but also under the Old Testament. King David, Solomon, Josiah etc. Exercised Legitimate Authority over the Church of their day. The Archbishop or Metropolitan of the Kingdom is a legitimate subject of the Monarch of the Land. A Christian King is supposed to be an Icon of Christ for his people. Christ is the only perfect Icon of the Father!

Thank you for this video. Very informative! The Anglican Church of North America (ACNA) just released a new Book of Common Prayer. I’m new to Anglicanism (having journeyed from the AG to the UMC and now to the ACNA 😊) but what I understand is that the Psalter in the new BCP is the Coverdale version with some language updates. Given one of the reasons the catholic church disliked Tyndale's bible was it included a translation of Luther's preface to the New Testament, I think it's fair to call him a Reformer. You could even call him a pre-reformer, as there's some evidence he was influenced by the Lollardy.
I am having a difficult time finding an answer to what I think is an interesting question regarding William Tyndale. The decision to execute William Tyndale was not from the government in England, the Court would have been the Court of the Holy Roman Empire, the "Reichskammergericht Court." My understanding is that the Court would have been composed not only of Roman Catholics, I think it would have been composed also of Lutherans. The person over the Court would have been Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor, a Roman Catholic, yet the Pope is not the Emperor. Am I correct that the reason for William Tyndale's death is that he did not have Ecclesiastical permission to translate the Bible into English, and that Protestants in the Trial of William Tyndale in a Legal sense agreed to that?
Sir, can you one day create a video on the history of the New Thought Movement from around the turn of the century (1900). There seems to be a lot of self help books originating from that movement using a New Thought/Christian view. Wondering how biblical it is. Thanks
Hi Ryan, thanks for the great works on the faith! I have a question for you if you please. The books that made it to the bible were screened through the Church Traditions (practices and beliefs originating from the Apostles). So it is this “Traditions” that defined the books of the bible, and thus superior. Is this correct?

"As if he threw someone off the top of a steeple and ordered him to stop half way down". I haven't heard that before but it sums up Henry's approach to reformation very well. Who said it?

Henry was also at war with the French. He had bankrupted England and as he was desperate for money to fund his war with France, he borrowed heavily from the Jews but could not pay them back. As he desperately needed more money to keep the war going he made himself head of the Church when he was able to take all the money countrywide for himself as well as his "divorce".

Hi there. Have you read Hilary Mantel's Thomas Cromwell trilogy? I recently bought Diarmaid MacCulloch's mammoth Cromwell biography. Looking forward to delving deeper into the period. I finished my PhD last year. My diss considered how revolutionary ideas transformed religiously-derived concepts of community in English, Irish, and Mexican Literature (1789-1832). The legacies of the Reformation as you know are still shaping England and Ireland at this time but now with the reality of revolution and revolutionary ideas impacting politics and culture. Now that I'm done with the diss, I've been wanting to know more about my time period's pre-history, especially in terms of the Reformation. Thought Mantel, one of the better historical novelists today if not the best, might be a fun way to do this. Your videos are interesting too. I'm also reading Lyndal Roper's Luther bio (she might have written two: I'm reading the newer bio, not the psychobiographical one, though I do want to read it too.) This is all to say: I've caught the Reformation History bug :-)
The Wolf Hall miniseries is a nearly perfect historical drama. Everything is so well done from the acting to the sets, the costumes, the lighting, all of it. The only thing that keeps it from seeming like they travelled back in time with cameras and filmed the actual events is the fact that so many of the actors have familiar faces from other movies and TV shows. Really hope they do another series for the third book with the same actors reprising their roles from Wolf Hall where ever possible.
33. From generation to generation, the Truth has always been with only one living prophet messenger on the earth. He is the one who has the keys of the Kingdom; he is the one who is the way, the truth and the life in his time. And when you open the Bible, you see Isaiah, Jeremiah, Amos, Ezekiel, and so on. They are names of prophets. The truth, it is with a living prophet messenger, and not in a church. But what are you doing therefore with the Bible which is in your hands? If not, is it really for Salvation that you go to church? And yet, if God saves a Baptist, a Pentecostal, a revival church member or assembly of gods, how can He condemn the Pharisees, Judas and Cain?
Found your channel tonight, completely and utterly flawless work. I hope you find the time or motivation to start it back up. Phenomenal work. Thank you for all the work you put into your videos. Thank you.
Enjoy the videos. I have a nice facsimile of the 1537 Matthew's Bible from Hendrickson and later was able to find a two volume facsimile of the 1539 Great Bible. Alone with internet sites that provide these texts, plus the Book of Common Prayer which contains the Psalter of the Great Bible, it is very clear to see how the Great Bible is often called a sister to the Matthew-Tyndale Bible. They both read basically the same with only the most minor differences which takes some reading of both Bibles to discover. Where our translations begin to suffer is with the Geneva Bible. The Geneva Bible reads nothing like the Tyndale Bibles. The Bishop's Bible scholars tried to restore the Tyndale renderings but it went unnoticed by the Puritans who already had their minds made up about the Geneva Bible. The KJV is more like the Geneva Bible than any of the Tyndale Bibles. You can quickly tell the difference when you compare the Geneva Bible and KJV with the Tyndale Bibles. So in a sense I would disagree that modern translations read anything like the Tyndale Bibles. I personally prefer the Tyndale Bibles over other English translations but still love the KJV, too.
"What we know by FAITH and what we learn by REASON cannot be in conflict." - St. Augustine of Hippo, Church Father (354AD.) Historically, the Catholic Church has often been a patron of sciences. It has been prolific in the foundation and funding of schools, universities, and hospitals, and many clergy have been active in the sciences. Historians of science such as Pierre Duhem credit medieval Catholic mathematicians and philosophers such as John Buridan, Nicole Oresme, and Roger Bacon as the founders of modern science. Duhem found "the mechanics and physics, of which modern times are justifiably proud, to proceed by an uninterrupted series of scarcely perceptible improvements from doctrines professed in the heart of the medieval schools." Catholic scientists, both religious and lay, have led scientific discovery in many fields. From ancient times, Christian emphasis on practical charity gave rise to the development of systematic nursing and hospitals and the Church remains the single largest private provider of medical care and research facilities in the world. Following the Fall of Rome, monasteries and convents remained bastions of scholarship in Western Europe and clergymen were the leading scholars of the age - studying nature, mathematics, and the motion of the stars. During the Middle Ages, the Church founded Europe's first universities, producing scholars like Robert Grosseteste, Albert the Great, Roger Bacon, and Thomas Aquinas, who helped establish the scientific method. During this period, the Church was also a major patron of engineering for the construction of elaborate cathedrals. Since the Renaissance, Catholic scientists have been credited as fathers of a diverse range of scientific fields: Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) pioneered heliocentrism, Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (1744-1829) prefigured the theory of evolution with Lamarckism, Friar Gregor Mendel (1822-1884) pioneered genetics, and Fr Georges Lemaître (1894-1966) proposed the Big Bang cosmological model, he is the Father of Big Bang Theory. The Jesuits have been particularly active, notably in astronomy. Church patronage of sciences continues through institutions like the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (a successor to the Accademia dei Lincei of 1603) and Vatican Observatory (a successor to the Gregorian Observatory of 1580). As the world's oldest and largest continuously functioning international institution, it has played a prominent role in shaping the history and development of Western civilization we now know today. The Catholic Church is the largest non-government provider of education and medical services in the world. The Catholic Church manages 26% of health care facilities in the world, including tens of thousand hospitals, clinics, orphanages, pharmacies and centers for those with leprosy. The church has always been involved in education, since the founding of the first universities of Europe. It runs and sponsors tens of thousand of primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities throughout the world and operates the world's largest non-governmental school system. In the words of J. L. Heilbron of the University of California, Berkeley, the "Roman Catholic Church gave more financial aid and social support to the study of astronomy over six centuries, from the recovery of ancient learning during the late Middle Ages into the Enlightenment, than any other, and all other institutions." This financial and social support extended also to other branches of scientific inquiry. The Church is patron of Learnings and Social Services for almost 2000 yrs.
Tyndall actually translated John 1:1-7 correctly as a verb not a noun. The logos is not a literal person as most have been led to believe. The logos is referring to all elect predestined sons who were foreknown by God as those who manifest or are born of Gods spirit. As opposed to those of freewill who are grated in or adopted into the house.

Could you do a video on the septuagint, vulgate, masoretic texts, Q texts and any manuscripts in the east... when are they all from? Who did them? What are their distinctives / approaches?
It is really upsetting you have been left uploading new videos for two years
Ryan, I really appreciate all your videos. I come back to them over and over again because you are so intelligent about them, and deliver a very even-keeled summary. I wish you Easter blessings and hope you continue with more videos, although I know how much work they are to produce.
The rest of the videos in this playlist are about finance and investment, and this playlist was updated 4 days ago. Has this account been compromised? I urge everyone to download these videos while we can, if a hacker is adding new video to playlists, maybe removing old videos will be next.
Where did you go? Hope you are ok and you start up again.

Guess who's back, back again, Reeves is back, tell a friend.
Tell everyone and there mother.
You should list that book as Audio , you have a great speaking voice my friend.
I was wondering if you have included anything in that book on the Septuagint origins
that would battle the mostly Jewish argument that its a historic lie or some conspiracy of sort.
Thank you again for this channel and all that you do
Don’t think I didn’t notice you change your profile picture 👀
Thank you for this video. Very informative! The Anglican Church of North America (ACNA) just released a new Book of Common Prayer. I’m new to Anglicanism (having journeyed from the AG to the UMC and now to the ACNA 😊) but what I understand is that the Psalter in the new BCP is the Coverdale version with some language updates. Fun to get some of the history of this version.
Is King Charles the head of the ANCA?

Your videos are such a blessing. I hope you will one day return to making more. In the meanwhile, prayers going up for you brother ❤

Ryan, where did you go????
Thank you for all these videos professor Reeves, I am so excited to see that you may return. I came to your videos for the history, but they have helped me start to reignite my faith, which I truly need right now.
I am not disappointed in my subscribing to your channel, Ryan.
I love the scholarship tone. You wisely avoided the religious style of presentation.

Do you have a new video coming soon?
I found your channel earlier in the week. I’ve since spent a lot of time watching eight or nine of your video lectures. I’m learning a lot and really enjoying it. Thank you.
Hi all, could I ask what happened to Ryan? Why did he stop uploading years back? I really enjoy the content he puts out :)
Just bought the Audible version of your book. This is some great stuff!
Please come back mr. Reeves your theology and history videos are so good. Put your wood working content on the channel to gain some engagement!
Based on the comments you wrote it seems like your coming back soon! Setup a Patreon account and I will start donating each time you make a video. I love your lectures for their historical authenticity and your seemingly unbiased view on different topics.
I'm not sure I can trust you though, Dutch. I mean, you won't even tell me what the plan is :)

I love these videos. I listen to them and often repeat them while I play my Crusader Kings 3 game. I enjoy the videos about the Middle Ages especially like the ones on the merovingian kings and Charlemagne. Alfred the great. They are phenomenal and enjoyable.
I hope you reupload more soon.
In your research did you consider the literature of Jaroslav Pelikan, the book in particular The reformation of The Bible: The Bible of the reformation or any Eastern Orthodox scholars especially concerning the septuagint?
Just ordered the book, looking forward to it. Currently reading Dr. Michael Kruger's book "Canon Revisited" as this topic is of great interest to me.

Tyndale was a restorationist more than a reformationist
Ryan, you have been saying for months that you will be back, but still no new videos. Have your plans changed? I still think this is the best historical theology channel on RUclips, but I'll be very sad if this is your last video.
"As if he threw someone off the top of a steeple and ordered him to stop half way down". I haven't heard that before but it sums up Henry's approach to reformation very well. Who said it?
“Divorce is a worse result than making the foolish decision in the first place to marry her”…..😜🤣🤣🤣🤣 that is hilarious!!!
What is "humanism" as you use it in your video? What is "the new learning"? (2:14)
If we were already scholars, we would have no need for your videos, but some of us are simple folk and need some of these terms fleshed out just a bit. Thank you.

I would really love a copy of The Great Bible. I haven't found any just showing the few copies that exists in bible museums.

Man I miss your videos. Visiting Rome and having some of your podcast as the background as definitely special

"What we know by FAITH and what we learn by REASON cannot be in conflict."
- St. Augustine of Hippo, Church Father (354AD.)
Historically, the Catholic Church has often been a patron of sciences. Duhem found "the mechanics and physics, of which modern times are justifiably proud, to proceed by an uninterrupted series of scarcely perceptible improvements from doctrines professed in the heart of the medieval schools."
Catholic scientists, both religious and lay, have led scientific discovery in many fields.
