    Here is the base issue I take. If sun exposure is this dangerous, how did we evolve the way we did and why didn't we evolve better? My hang up still comes to this goes against every facet of the theory of evolution. Why do I need something that hadn't been around very long to survive?

    • @anthonyymm511
      @anthonyymm511 2 года назад +30

      Likely because of colonialism. There is a theory that postulates that people started getting lighter skin when they migrated from Africa to Europe thousands of years ago. This was favorable because it made vitamin D easier to absorb. However because of colonialism many Caucasian people now live in environments where the sun is much more intense than their ancestors were used to. Think about how dark the aboriginals are in Australia vs European descended Australians.

      You only need a limited amount of sun exposure to get your vitamin D. After that your body should stop producing it. When your body stops producing vitamin d I would think would depend on genetic mutations but the assumption is that the body stops producing vitamin d when it doesn't need anymore. Its good research but it's not relevant to the public at all. I was interested to know if components in sun cream at their dosages were carcinogenic which would have been relevant for consumers so they can pick better brands, or the bad sunscreens can be regulated. Scientists that are involved in skincare products have been KNOWN to even fake their reports, sometimes with money involved.

      Valid point, but who would you trust more to manufacture a superior sunscreen: a dermatologist who has the medical knowledge that would be required in creating a highly effective sunscreen, or some random businessman whose main interest is maximum profit? There are always two sides to every coin, or if you have an unique perspective, then there are an infinite number of sides to every coin. A conflict of interest alone is not sufficient to invalidate any fact they may purport, yet it is also not adequate grounds for confirmation of another's pre-existing biases. However, a conflict of interest is a warning sign, but that it is all it is, a warning sign. It's not stating that all things sourced from a conflict of interest will only serve the stronger interest of the source whether it be the truth or not. Which is the stronger interest? What means does the conflict serve, if it even serves one of the means? It is a warning sign that most should heed. If you want to know if you can trust certain research, you need to follow the source of the money all the way back to its origin, and not merely back to the funding entity. From whence does that entity receive most of its money?? Then, does that entity's major source of money receive money from elsewhere? One must trace the source of money all the way back to a source that creates its own wealth and is not reliant on other sources of money outside of what it produces. Then one can assess the source of money in regards to elements and attributes of that entity: the function of said entity, their goals, their beliefs, the types of donations they make, etc. With that knowledge, one can make a fairly reasonable, and accurate assessment of the degree of bias a specific study, or research, may contain.
      Yes, the master manipulators, the ones who pull the strings behind all major global events have a system in place where, outside of a few key issues, the research will prove one side of an issue one week, and then the following week some other research will prove the opposite of the previous research, and it will go back and forth. Researchers have shown that drinking coffee regularly is beneficial for one's health, then the following week, new research has proven that as much as drinking a single cup of coffee daily is detrimental to one's health, coffee is good, coffee is bad, coffee is good, coffee is bad. We can never keep up with the currently information, and in seeing that the perspective on any subject matter usually changes back and forth every week, we naturally grow tired of trying to keep pace with the most recent research. Yet, in witnessing the research persistently flip-flop back and forth, we can never see nor sense any definitive conclusion in sight. We can not see any final answer stating that something is either good for us, or it is bad for us, or even if it is neutral. Although unintended, most of us eventually reach a threshold where we are tired from the matter, and we simply create an apathetic attitude. We simply become too tired to care about the issue any further. As we reach this state of apathy with each successive issue, our overall apathy increases, eventually reaching a state where we are indifferent to whether or not something may or may not be bad for us. This is a tactic they employ to reduce all of our cares or concerns, ultimately rendering some of us to be completely apathetic. If we no longer care about issues that were once important and significant to us, then why should we care what some theorized small group of people are doing to us? Apathetic people are easier to manipulate and to control, and they make the easiest victims.
      Things are definitely not as they appear! Regarding most minor issues where the populace's beliefs bear no effect upon any of the nefarious agendas of the manipulators, they are either left alone (meaning we, the populace, may actually see them as they truly are), or they are perpetually seen within the tennis match of research such that they persistently switch back and forth from being viewed as either good or bad, this being utilized as a tactic to increase the overall apathy of the general populace. Then, for most other issues, typically the ones consider by most to be major because they affect people on a global or national level, are almost always being pushed under a false narrative by the mainstream media. The way in which people perceive these issues have the potential to affect the success the manipulators will have in achieving their various agendas. These issues need to be perceived in a manner that deviates from reality and the truth. Thus, they are persistently pushed, or presented, under a false narrative intentionally to cause a false perception of them by the populace. Thus, when one sees an issue being frequently pushed across all aspects of mainstream media (music, movies, plays, radio, newspapers, periodicals, television, including various types of shows and especially news), for an extended period of time, and in a consistent manner to paint only one possible perspective of said issue, then one is safe to assume that this perspective being intentionally pushed is assuredly a false narrative. Furthermore, I have found that the reality of these false narratives to be nearly the exact opposite of the perception that is being pushed. Thus, when the mainstream media pushes a specific viewpoint upon any issue, and they do so in a consistent manner across the entire gambit of the media, and in a fashion that leaves no alternative viewpoint for the viewer to have, one can safely assume that said viewpoint is a false narrative, and the reality of said issue can be approximated merely by taking the exact opposite of the viewpoint that is being pushed. No, things are definitely not as they appear to be.

    • @tanya9nithreus
      @tanya9nithreus 3 года назад +8

      @@ThinkerOnTheBus First of all: Thank you for your huge reply.
      It's not about which sunscreen is better. It's about whether or not sunscreen is even needed at all. We already know that sunscreen in general can cause skin cancer. Cancer and other such health issues have existed less in the past, meaning that a lot of the things that we consume or use these days (including sunscreen) must actually be making things worse for us. Sunscreen should be used when you are spending long times in strong sun, like at the beach, but not daily.
      Your second and last paragraphs both talk about a back and forth thing that you are trying to explain, so I'll answer them together. It depends on what kind of media you choose to follow. No, we can never trust a scientist/an organization 100%, but it does, as you said, depend on where the funds for said scientist or organization come from. The pharma-industry is known to be one of the biggest industries world-wide, especially now with covid-19. A lot of the things this industry is trying to make us think is 'normal' and needed (like even toothpaste and sunscreen and even shampoo and soap) are filled with chemicals or irritants that a lot of people get bad reactions to. Yet in this day and age people learn early on that these things are 'normal'. Toothpaste industries will show ads and supermarkets are full of these products, yet the majority of these products are not exactly good for us.
      So the question is ... do we even need these things? Just because some scientist or company might be 'better' than others at creating something more or less irritating?
      I have stopped using sunscreen for daily use. I say that if you try not using a certain product for a while and experience a good change/it works for you then that proves the point of this product not being necessary. And you have found this out without having to listen to a single 3rd party/media/other information source.
      I say be wary. Go as natural as is possible. Don't trust everything the pharma industry or its scientists say. There is a lot of fraud in the science world too, especially from "doctors" or scientists that are trying to sell something.
      If they are the only ones that understand enough to know if something is good, then they are also the only ones that know that something is bad (but cheap for them) and therefore they can sell it to everyone that isn't a scientist and have them believe things.
      No, being suspicious (I assume this is the word you were talking about instead of 'apathetic', which is something entirely different) doesn't mean we are easier to manipulate. It means we don't blindly go trusting everyone. We take a look at their goals, product and so on first and think about things.

    There is also the option of wearing UPF clothing or jackets when repeated application of sunscreen is impractical or irritates the skin.
    I had melanoma removed from my arm a couple years ago. I burn through sunscreen so my risk for more is already higher. Daily use of my sun jacket and switching to a zinc oxide/titanium dioxide sunscreen for my face and exposed skin has been a game changer. Super easy to grab a jacket and go. Sunscreen goes on just under my tinted moisturizer or powder. Ive yet to have another sunburn. The sun jackets are surprisingly cool and can be dipped in water on hot days as they air dry quickly.

      Long marathon much better for the body but also can beat your body up. An extreme marathon will put you put of commission. But in general, training for endurance running is healthier than sprints. Why? Many reasons. You become heavier if you train for sprints because you grow large muscles . Large muscles sound healthy but are not healthy. You have to eat more, you have to expend and use more energy, you use more growth pathways and therefore you die sooner. This is actually well researched. Whereas endurance running, your muscles become small but very practical and enduring. You get more cardiovascular benefits because you keep your heart rate raised for a longer time. Your heart is going to become ultra efficient, have a huge stroke volume and your VO2 max will go througg the roof. The one thing you have to look out for in endurance sports is your joints though. If you prioritize recovery, don’t overtrain, don’t run extremely long races as they take a toll on your body and can put you out of commission for weeks, practice proper form, you will likely not struggle with joint injury.
      Tl;dr long marathon training actually increases your lifespan and anaerobic/lifting/sprinting you can argue has the potential to decrease your lifespan

    • @lomein222
      @lomein222 5 лет назад +8

      Yes and no they can be toxic if you just use them because “you’re suppose to”. If you don’t actually have any vitamin deficiency that you know about from a reliable source like a doctor, this is when vitamins can actually be very harmful. There is many evidence (which I don’t have links to you’ll have to do your own research ) that in some cases vitamin supplements actually caused cancer. If you eat a normal diet you most likely won’t need any kind of vitamin supplement you get PLENTY of vitamins for the normal foods you eat there’s no need for vitamin supplements which could actually cause more harm then good.

      Keto is crap for weight loss. I mean it works, obv. Blocking your body from an essential nutrient will do that. But at what cost? And it's not sustainable for most. It was originally designed as a diet for epilepsy sufferers. Because the risks of seizures outweighs the limitations of keto. Sure, if I had to drop some pounds in a hurry for an event, yeah, I'd consider it. But keto being touted as a perfectly fine healthy life style is misleading. It's crash dieting, and makes fat intake easier to increase.

    It would seem that rates of skin cancer have increased in the last 50 or 60 years, while prior to that, this disease wasn’t an issue. Since the sun hasn’t changed in the last 50 or 60 years then clearly something else has (and I don’t think it’s because we spend more time in the sun). The reason for the increase in skin cancer is probably related to a change in the diet that occurred over the last few decades. I would say almost certainly an increase in Omega 6 oils in the diet and a reduction in saturated fats. This has resulted in a change in the physical make up of cell membranes and, as unsaturated fats are easily oxidized and more inflammatory than saturated fats, caused us to burn more easily under the sun. Indeed, people today burn much more quickly than they did in the 60s.
    Sunscreen is a non issue.
    What you need to do is reduce the Omega 6 oil in your diet - drastically. However, the half life of fat in the body is about 2 years, so if you start today you might be able to get down to a decent level in about 7 years. Unfortunately, omega 6 oils are in just about every kind of processed food available so eliminating them is very difficult.

    I honestly don’t know too much about this issue and I just so happened to stumble upon this video while binge-watching your channel. However, I had read some articles claiming the ingredients in sunscreens were bad for you since they have properties that aid absorption of the lotion into the skin. The articles said these ingredients might cause skin cancer instead of the sun itself.
    As someone who uses sunscreen daily, it was concerning for me to read those articles.
    Now all this information is just off the top of my head and I’d read those articles a few months ago so my memory might not even be accurate.
    We can tell from this video that the article “Is Sunscreen the New Margarine” is pretty much a fallacy. But how do we spot inconsistencies in articles or research that seem much more sensible?

So imagine what happens...you protect it on day and not another. Your actually making your face more vulnerable for damage. I think it's definitely a must when your at the beach exposing yourself to excess sun.
    So, That's why Drs. say you must wear it daily...because you've created a vulnerable situation. I noticed when I wore sunblock, I actually developed tons of freckles. Maybe because it was a poor product or on the days I didn't wear it..I got burned. Maybe there's that saying of protective layer, let your body protect itself.

    I really wish my parents would use sunscreen. They saw one article about how using sunscreen can give you a higher risk of cancer and since then they only use it when it's like 30°C or more and they fear being sun burned. My mom just says that she has darker pigment so she doesn't need the higher spf. She still looks very young for her age so I think that's why she doesn't make the connection. The same can't be said about my dad. He has lighter pigment and his skin looks awful. He insists that every skin product that exists does not work and that they everyone is in it for the money. He grew up in the southern parts of Sweden and his family were farmers. All of them have the same skin problems. No one has been diagnosed with skin cancer yet so I guess that is why he has not made the connection.

    Let's look at the reality here, the real skin cancer epidemic came with the introduction of sunscreen in the 70's, Vitamin D is a hormone your body produces that is essential to support your immune system. Strong immune system = anti cancer (dying cells that are unable to be properly eliminated and discarded by the immune system), the reason why skin cancer is more common amongst the elderly is for 2 reasons, a lot of old people have a poor life style and poor diet, those who DID get damaged skin from prolonged sun exposure, spend a lot of their later life indoors and away from the sun, so poor later lifestyle, weakened body through age- you're going to have a greater likely hood of getting cancer, on the other hand the carcinogenic chemicals are another factor in the mix which are being soaked right into your blood stream and lymphatic system.
    Sunscreen can only block certain harmful UV rays, but not the most harmful radiation spectrum of it, so you're blocking your skin from the beneficial rays of the sun that are supposed to support your immune system to aid in protection against the more harmful ones (along with healthy activity, good diet). Therefore.. you're trying to beat nature by protecting yourself against something supposed to make you stronger to make you live harmonious with the harmful exposures of nature.

    Not to go against a man who's far more educated than me, but the sunscreen he uses scores one of the worst ratings on ewg website..... Both the safety of the ingredients, and the actual protection that youre getting is poor. EWG are one of the only unbiased genuiine sources of information out there, so I assume they're accurate on this.

    Wait wait wait.... If the synthesis of Vitamin D only occurs if people do not properly put sunscreen on, then wont putting sunscreen the way its intended prevent Vitamin D for being produced?

    Yeah sure, meanwhile I know ppl who don't bother with self-care regimens who look unfazed (age gracefully). Were all told we need this or that yet some ppl will always have deformities; whether, if it's their skin or their hair won't grow etc. Scientists love to preach a potion that works for all.

    Why are chemical sunscreens being villified? Yes, some particular ingredients have been found harmful in one way or another, but definitely far from all.

      Amanda Sjöberg They make it seem like sunscreen having chemicals in it is bad for you. Literally everything is made out of chemicals and most chemicals in sunscreen is not harmful at all. People are just manipulated so easily.
