The first character that taught me not every story has a happy ending and you will not always be the hero of it. This beign 10 years old was an absolutely mindfuck and made me see the World in another way, i always expected arthas to redeem himself but when he started the slaughter of the survivors of the Alliance i knew there was no way back, i learned someone can sympathize with villains aswell
Yup, Wrath of the Lich King is when you find out that he was truly gone and it was just the LICH KING now, i guess he gets redeemed or something in Shadowlands, didnt play it but thats what it seems from some of the videos
@@dingodyno9016 In WotLK there is mention made that something was holding the Lich King back. While he was truly lost to the darkness within him, some piece of Arthas remained. When you destroy that piece in the Matthias Lehner questline in Icecrown, you paradoxically end up weakening the Lich King. This is likely the only reason we were able to go toe to toe with him at all.
Back when I was a child, hearing this theme hyped me up to levels you couldn't imagine. It immerses you into the W3 universe, which, at that time was unmatched. King Arthas, the best Warcraft character!
It really captures the dark majesty of Arthas' return to Lordaeron to get revenge on the Dreadlords (which is when this theme plays if I recall correctly). It's a heroic piece, but there's that overwhelming sense of tragedy and darkness evident in the theme that makes it like a twisted parody of what he could have been.
Which makes all these things that yall mentioned even better, because he became King alright....... But just not the one people thought he was going to be...... For the Lich King.
If you think about it, this is all because Arthas was sleep deprived. Just look at those eyes. He definitely hasn't slept in weeks, perhaps months, and it is said sleep deprivation can lead to insanity
He prolly didn't sleep since start of his journey in human campaign, even before Harthglen, and Stratholme. Given how out of it he seemed during Northrend section before he took Frostmourne, odds are he didn't sleep for a long time, untill he merged with Lich King.
You've been a loyal...friend, Kel'Thuzad. I don't know what the future holds or if I'll ever return. But I want you to watch over this land, see to it that my legacy endures.
Naw Arthas is pure Villain, he lost his soul, damned his kingdom and its people and did an unspeakable horrors and tragedies in his wake. (He is however the best Villain ever do and id follow him without a second thought)
This one captures Arthas' role in this game really well. A lot of people here have mentioned the tragic aspect, which is true. If you listen to the music, from 0:37 to 1:12, this part is a remake of a track from the Reign of Chaos soundtrack album called "Tragic Confrontation." It's the same track that was played in the scene where Uther and Jaina were talking in Stratholme after Arthas had purged the city. The track itself was very tragic. However, this "Arthas Theme" did well in adding the drums right after it, making the entire track sound like: 1) Prince Arthas has arrived, with power, right of succession, and a determination to save his people, then 2) His life has been tragic, if you think back about his life, and then 3) He is still the King, in a different form (Undead), with power and determination, leaving the tragedy behind, still saving his people, his Undead minions.
It does a really good job of capturing the rise and fall and rise again as a hero Prince charging into battle in a race against time to save his people as a King should. He became King alright but....... just not the one Lordaeron thought he was going to be and not the subjects they thought he would rule over. Also the track you mentioned is also a nice call back to when Arthas kills Malganis, as that part also plays as well
In fact, the theme Tragic Confrontation plays right after Arthas declares "This entire city must be purged." which is also a pivot moment where Arthas' fate took a turn for the dark.
Possibly the greatest video game soundtrack ever. It captures arthas' story in a single 2 min track. How it starts with an imposing triumphant march and is abruptly interrupted by a solemn and tragic melody(which sounds like a song more often played at funerals). Reminiscent of arthas' "rigtheous" crusade being overshadowed by the atrocities he committed. The track is then slowly shifted back into an overwhelmingly triumphant marching theme, drowning out any thought of possible tragedies. Showcasing arthas the paladin's death and the sorrow it carries, and from it a new arthas is unbirthed, arthas the deathknight
Those are the exactly stages arthas had, in the same order Hope for saving his land Melancholy for his army and people abandoning him Darkness for becoming one of the black episodes for humanity
It does a really good job of capturing the rise and fall and rise again as a hero Prince charging into battle in a race against time to save his people as a King should. He became King alright but....... just not the one Lordaeron thought he was going to be and not the subjects they thought he would rule over.
This theme represents well some kind of 'Ghost hero', a man, an ideal that 'once was' but now long gone, but whose unholy echo continues to haunt the world. Every evil deed Arthas made, was a perversion of his real self before his soul got taken away from him.

The song writers and composers did such an amazing job.
This music is awesome, and most importantly, it mixes both Dark Agents and Tragic Confrontation themes from Reign of Chaos and gives it it's own Arthas spin, which is really already an amazing composition.
