A log splitter is such a valuable tool if you use a lot of wood. It can save so much wear on your body. Good review. I see Angie and Mike just got one too.
I am late to the fire here, but are you concerned about carbon monoxide when running in the Shelter Logic shed. I pull mine out to the log pile in open air. Than again, I split wood in warm weather so that it has time to dry before use. That strainer can catch any solids in your ffuel, but more important it will catch water if you shake it out before putting the lid on.
I have the 34 Ton splitter, it’s pretty much identical, but mine doesn’t have the fuel gauge, I live mine though, I hope yours serves you well & saves you a lot of work!!
@@PloughmansBackyard I subbed!!! I’ll watch for it!! The only problem I ran into with mine, if I leave it outside instead of keep it in my shed, if it rains AT ALL, the air box, carb, & cylinder fill up with water right away, then I have to take it apart, blow it all out with air hose, put it back together
27 ton is 54000 pounds, divided by 12.5 inches of area for a 4 inch cylinder(looks like) which means 4320 psi. Gear pumps do not like more than 2000 psi ?
So they really only hold 16 o z of oil?No throttle? Is speed preset?also i think your backwards on your choke setting positions.Just bought one .wont quit raining long enuff to use it.
Hi there! Thanks for watching. Good suggestion and it probably would be better to leave it in there but I find I spill less gas with it removed. I'm pretty careful to first clear the area of the gas cap before filling it.
I am shocked and surprised that everybody almost all of these videos I watched they have the thing horizontal and lift the blocks into place .... I have always used these in the vertical position. I figured the horizontal position was just for transport. What's the deal?
The vertical position would probably be the more ideal way of splitting large log pieces, but the only issue to that, would be the repetitive bending down, which might be too much for some people. Any smaller logs that are easy to handle, I have always used the horizontal position. It comes down to preference. Both positions work.
@@PloughmansBackyard yeah I've done it with the vertical position and I usually pull up a stool and just shuffle typically have a helper too, but man I can't see bending over and picking up logs and dropping. To each his own I suppose 😉
Way too slow put a tach on the motor,it should be spinning at 3600rpm,you will also find the pump is rated at 3600 rpm too, just listening and watching, you at 2900rpm.
You need to learn how to use the thing.....what I mean by that is keep your hand in the middle of the log so you never crush it or lose it..also wood can fly up rarely.... and last don't worry about going ALL the way through just keep turning the round and delivering splits of various depth with cross over....if you listen to what I'm saying you'll see that with enough splits the wood will be torn apart.....it aint gotta look so pretty
That splitter is a cheap replica with a cheap engine sold at the same price....called champion so you buy it....it won't last like a Honda and even the ram is cheaper made.....the best splitters were before everyone threw cheap ones together to rip us off..... I have an older yard machine 27 ton 20 yrs old...never a problem
We've had a champion generator for about 5 years and it's never had issues with it. Always starts. So when we seen the deal at the time for the splitter it was in our price range. I've only had one issue with it but could of been because it was -30/-40 out, it wouldn't start. Other than that no issues with it so far. I agree with you about Honda and also how things are made now. Not the same quality back in the day. Thank you for your thoughts on it and for watching.
Just got mine this past weekend. Incredible time saver. Even the wife was out splitting logs with me.
I don't know what we'd do without our log splitter, great purchase!!
We are pretty excited about it!

Great job, hope yall have a great weekend
Thank you! You aswell
Oh I love the log catcher feature!! I wonder if I can get an addition to our new guy! Great video!!
Thanks! I have known people to build their own on there log splitter.
great splitter...just bought one....your small log catcher is on upside down according to my manual.
Is it? We bought it already assembled... I'll have to look at the manual. 🤣

Thank you for watching! I'll be putting out a review about the log splitter and how it did throughout the winter.

I love the metal catch sides, with mine the wood just falls on the ground...or your toes lol
Yes that feature is really great! Lol no more watching out for your toes lol

Why does the 27 ton champion log splitter spray hydraulic fluid from the tank where you fill it. It’s about about 3 inches from the top
Just make sure to tighten it enough so it doesn't leak.
To much oil in tank. Happened to me once.

Wouldn't it be better to leave the strainer basket in place to catch possible contaminants when you fuel it up?

I think your log catch is installed backwards on one side. nice video though
You are correct the one on the operator side is installed incorrectly.

Yes. lol It is nice to have a little helper too.
COOL

I appreciate the feed back. Thank you.
Log catch on valve side definitely wrong
It's not. That is where it goes.
Correct in the video, its installed upside down. it should be flat - not angled up.

I don't like the air filter set up. I have to cleaned the intake tube and the carburetor. 😔
