Talk about least popular schools outside of fan bases. If those top four were literally any other school people would love them but the 4 best are the 4 most boring/hated teams

However baylor went down hill due to their horrible doings, and Oklahoma state has been good they can just never beat their big brother or Texas it ever seems. But I do generally agree. There were a ton more teams in the NC talk in the BCS it seems then there were in the CFP era which is ironic

The committee is so stricted with the top 4 they put a 11-1 (recent loss) Ohio st ahead of 13-0 UCF (who at that point was on a 25 game win streak). I’m willing to bet if the coaches poll was in charge it would be way better. We need a playoff system with the coaches poll cuz they almost never get it wrong

Best thing ESPN did was adopt the ABC BCS theme to Saturday Night Football and the 2007-2011 arrangements were best, with the 07-09 being my fav. Should have brought that back for the new 12 team playoff. Matches the pageantry of having first round games on campus.
Virtually everything got worse as time went on, even the matchups weren’t as good save for a couple of seasons. Growing up it felt like every Saturday night game on abc was huge but not nearly as much anymore

@@joey.thieme i think chris fowler was legendary as the college gameday host. imo he's miscast in the booth. his commentating style doesn't suit the play-by-play position, but i read back in the day that chris fowler was going to leave espn if they didn't give him the #1 play-by-play position so they panicked and gave it to him. and while he's grown into the role a little, i still don't think he's even comparable to guys like brent musberger, keith jackson, etc.

I'm a die hard Bama fan but look at LSU out there before the texas game, that team had swagger. They knew how good they were and we all didnt have a clue. I wish I could see Bama 2020 or bama 2012 vs 2019 lsu.
Just realized travelling through California Musberger does Raiders play by play. Dude couldn't give up the itch. Was a useless preseason game between two teams I couldn't care less about but was nice hearing him call a game on a drive
I do too. The separation between the power 5 and the group of 5 has widened. I went to a G5 university and I just feel like the chances are getting smaller for any team not in the power 5 to get to the CFP. The BCS never really got it wrong except for 2001. I think it’s better for the G5 to split off and do their own thing and let the Power 5 do theirs. I’ve been a proponent of that for years.

I don't think many people remember this but I remember they had regionalized games as well early on. I think it was pretty rare that you saw a game other then the national one unless you in the local area for one of the teams playing
You're exactly right. Very few Saturday Night Football games were truly "national" early on. That wasn't until the last few years of the BCS. Even into the first couple years of the CFP era, we've had the occasional "reverse mirror" game, where the game that wasn't on ABC was on ESPN2.
Ever notice how how from 2016 to 2022 whenever there was a B1G game televised on ABC it was presented as "The B1G on ABC" but when it was an ACC, Big XII, or Pac12 game, that aired on the same network on the same day as a B1G game, it was presented as "The ACC/Big XII/Pac12 on ESPN"? In fact, since the ABC Sports rebranding in 2006, no other sports package that aired on ABC, including the NBA, was referred to as the "(blank) on ABC". Instead it was presented as "(blank) on ESPN".
Man the presentation just loses all character after they decided to get rid of their own original intro. It's sad. They've lost touch completely with what makes college football fun.

The early era of ESPN on ABC intros was great but it doesn't beat ABC College Football’s intros from 1999 to 2005. They would hype up the storylines right before kickoff which, would get you even more hyped.
I personally liked the 2012-2014 music the best (I thought it was nice and dramatic, especially for a big game), though the graphics I liked best were 2015-17 (seeing team logos and clips on passing buildings).
In the Bcs there was a sense of urgency to win and get into the top two. Now when they are going to expand it not every game will be as big as it used to be
2006-09: good, classic theme. 2010-11: i like this one too. not as good as 06-09, but it’s good for saturday night 2012-14: also a solid intro. the only real change is graphics, which are better than the 2010-11 intros 2015-17: i actually like this intro. felt big. did not like the 2017 game so much… 2018-20: these longer intros can be epic if done right, they can be horrible if done wrong. 2018 and 2020 sucked, but 2019 was excellent.
