      Obi Wan was raised and indoctrinated on Jedi propaganda. Of course he would only see them in a positive light. Luke saw them for the history that actually happened.

    • @mutalemwananshiku4098

      Meirstein the only time the jedi failed was when darth sideous took over the republic other that the jedi have been successful in maintaining in peace. If luke brought up other things the jedi failed in prevoius gemerations then it would make sense.

    • @xYSarenArteriusxY
      @xYSarenArteriusxY 6 лет назад

      Meirstein If you take the pre Disney EU, with the exception of, what, 5 times the galaxy was at peace. Those five times (galaxy wide conflicts) spanned an extremely small fraction of those 20,000 years of Jedi history. In the Disney canon, you only have the Clone Wars and the Great Hyperspace War confirmed so far, which means that this argument is even stronger in the Disney canon.

    • @Meirstein
      @Meirstein 6 лет назад

      It doesn't matter how well you run the first half of a marathon if you collapse at mile 14. The Jedi became corrupt, weak, too dogmatic and resistant to change, and couldn't see a literal sith lord right under their noses. The order had an increasing amount of defectors, splitters, and traitors as it approached ruin. Their elimination was an inevitability.

    My problem here isn't that Disney doesn't understand what it did wrong - because we all know that Corporations are mindless entities who rely on charts and polls in order to create something, based solely on the desire to make money.
    What bothers me is that Screen Junkies presented it as THEY don't understand what the problem is either. You can't tell me that the "Original Honest Trailer Voice" guy wasn't portrayed as being the "lesser" of the two voices here. Especially considering that they give him such childish lines like -
    "Star Wars can only be talked about in absolutes."
    "Rian Johnson ruined my childhood."
    What's worse is that the regular Voice Guy literally called the opposition to this movie, "Butthurt Fanboys."
    And worse, actually tried to defend everything this movie did wrong as somehow doing "right". Sorry guys, but the Kanto Byte scene does NOT connect to a larger theme; it's literally a waste of our time.
    And how exactly does it practice the Jedi Philosophy, by moving away from quote, "Royal Bloodlines," and "Acts of Aggression"? What sense does that even remotely make?
    How could anyone find this movie "exhilarating" when 3/4ths of it was literally spent dragging its feet.
    Also, I find it ironic that they say Force Awakens was a love letter to the original, where as THIS one ripped off the Plot of Empire, just on a slower, far less spectacular way - with a completely unnecessary shoehorned in subplot to boot.
    Ultimately speaking, what pisses me off is that - if this were ANY other film franchise that fucked up THIS badly, Screen Junkies would have TORN into this movie.
    Jurassic World at its worst could be called "divisive" and yet they had the nerve to call it an overly expensive SyFy Original Movie.
    It reminds me of when the new Ghostbusters movie came out and they responded to it as Neutrally as possible. They're terrified of sparking up any sort of controversy that surrounds these movies. They literally do not have any balls...

    When I saw TLJ, for a moment I honestly thought the part where Luke threw the lightsaber over his shoulder was a joke - that what I was seeing was not the actual movie, just some stupid preview or something. I watched, however it makes my blood boil (just a bit) when they keep critiquing the fans, specially with the "If it does not follow your fan theory it was bad" stuff, maybe because I am really tired of hearing that excuse. But still that trailer was almost a bit insulting, but hey I laugh to some stuff too.

      Thing is I dont care about that stuff. Rey as a nobody is just fine, Jedi can be nobody its not just for Skywalkers. And Snoke just irritates me because of how it was done, feel that if they at least explained him in some way and killed him in less stupid way it would be fine. What I do mind is lazy writing and bad characters. And we got that a lot with this movie.

      Indeed, and what really pisses me off and the one thing that is really insulting is... That people actually go out of their way to defend the plot holes and the lazy writing. Hell I was once attack by a horde of Holdo fanboys, let me tell you those kind of people are really bad in the head.

      Lets be honest here...there's WAY too much entitlement going on..especially from Star Wars fans.
      It was warranted and I didn't like the Last Jedi.

    • @sacredbeastzenon
      @sacredbeastzenon 6 лет назад +11

      Daniel Walton Paying to see a decent movie is being entitled? Should moviegoers just quietly point out flaws, but graciously thanks Disney for terrible movies?

    • @Weeeeee711
      @Weeeeee711 6 лет назад

      The thing is...a lot of people didn't think it was terrible. I did..you did...many did not.
      The amount of time times I've heard:
      "Not my Star Wars"
      "Not my Luke Skywalker"
      "I never asked for this movie"
      Christ..get over yourselves (not specifically you)! It's not YOUR decision.
      If people want to make their own Star Wars (or version of Star Wars)..go ahead. Start filming!

    • @sacredbeastzenon
      @sacredbeastzenon 6 лет назад +8

      How is that being entitled? It literally looks as if people don't like it, and they just stating so. Rian Johnson screwed up and with lore. His version of Luke is a bastardization of a great character.

    • @Weeeeee711
      @Weeeeee711 6 лет назад

      If you're basing it just off this channel (which isn't a bad one)..obviously it's going to be:
      -Anti Last Jedi People: 98%
      -Everyone Else: 2%
      People generally flock to what they want to hear the most.
      and again, that's your opinion.

  • @Dreadjaws
    @Dreadjaws 6 лет назад +31

    I gotta be honest, I was never a fan of Honest Trailers. They always show up several months after everyone has exhausted criticism on a movie, only to make the exact same jokes everyone has already made. I just don't understand the appeal. And this time it looked like they tried to please both sides, which probably will end up angering both.
    It's particularly jarring because most of the parts of the video that defend the film do nothing but repeat the same tired bad arguments that defenders of this movie use, like "You only dislike this movie because it's not the one you made in your mind". Fuck no, that's bullshit!

      I love this movie.
      I love the themes. More so than any other star wars movie. Learning from failure was woven in so well with all the characters and their actions.
      I love the characters. This is the best the sequel characters have every been. They all have interesting arcs. I think this is Luke's best appearance. I think it's his best written appearance. And Mark Hamill's best performance of the character.
      I love the directing. This is the best looking movie in the franchise. And unlike most of these movies it actually has really neat shots and angles.
      I love the story.
      I really enjoyed the whole chase aspect. It makes for a tense setup when the first order chases down the weak and poor resistance. I like Canto Bite. It works well with the theme. And it's a fun time. And the 3rd act where Luke and Kylo face off is just perfect. I love it so much.
      This movie wasn't predictable. It doesn't fit into the same formula that do many of these movies do. It tells a story that none of these would. It's not here to worship the past. It's here to deliver a fresh take and, in my opinion, does it so well.

      at first i thought i should just let go of the pressure, but then it came to me, if i dont participate and defend my favorite childhood franchise, issues like EP8 will definitely repeat itself....and as long as we let it slip, paying for another abominable popcorn flick, Disney's will definitely continue to milk it out. Now as a true fan, i cant...i just cant keep watching my favorite heroes, characters, stories and lore being violated in such a way. Besides, KK and rj said so themselves, they dont care about the fans anymore. This has to stop!

    Though I am tired of The Last Jedi also and have no desire to see it again it is a symptom of hollywood or the entertainment industry as a whole. When you see more and more movies, tv shows or sports events becoming politicized with a leftist/SJW view or having an agenda instead of just being fun entertainment when is enough enough? It's interesting to see the popularity of retro tv channels that show the shows that we grow up with. A great book on the subject of leftist/SJW bias in the entertainment industry is Primetime Propaganda by Ben Shapiro.

    Read sci fi / fantasy books for 30 years. Had few series disappoint me hard, terry goodkind / sword of truth, wheel of time also. Just seemed like books started 2 go nowhere and pointless filler characters for extending story. What happened with last Jedi , was by far, beyond disappointment. Unless Tolkien had Frodo raped by Sam , after stealing ring, at edge of volcano, can't imagine worse deviation of storyline.
    It's like having Mickey piss on you at Disney world at checkout and expecting you 2 book next visit.

    Just watched The Last Jedi again on Blu-ray, (yes I bought it). It wasn’t as bad the second time around. I guess I’ve accepted all of its shortcomings and know they can’t be changed. This time I just enjoyed seeing Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher on the screen together for one final time. Most of the original trilogy cast just got cameos which is a real bummer. When the movie ended, I had the same impression that I did during my first screening. The ending, though it leaves loose ends, feels like the end of the Sequel Trilogy. There is no desire to see another Star Wars movie. The saga has ended.

  • @henrycaspersen1495

    Kathleen Kennedy and JJ Abrams have no idea what they are doing. They are actually too focused on characters. George Lucas always made it clear that the OT was about a small group of rebels fighting against the tyranny of an empire to bring democracy back to the galaxy. That was the fabric which he then interwove his characters into. And the prequels were the story of how a galaxy with democracy lost all of it to a dictatorial Emperor. Again, that was the fabric and Lucas interwove the characters into it. Episodes 7, 8, and 9 should have been about a galaxy that reclaimed its democracy and Senate only to fall into a civil war. Force use could have been outlawed in the galaxy following what happened with the Emperor and Vader (and the Jedi's failure to stop them). Leia would support this because she was always for peace and democracy. Luke would obviously be at odds with her and would train Jedi in secret. And then as the two sides of the civil war emerge, it can be revealed that one side is training and using Sith. Then Luke and his Jedi could have revealed themselves for an epic showdown. Unfortunately this new trilogy doesn't have any such fabric or background like this to build the characters through. Everyone left Force Awakens saying stuff like "who is the First Order?", "isn't the Rebellion the Rebels?", "where is the Senate, aren't they in charge again?". JJ Abrams was too rushed to get stormtroopers and a dark figure in a breathing mask back on the screen that he ignored natural story progression. This whole sequel is a failure.

    Jeremy, I have noticed something lately and I hope you have too. With Mark Hamill making all of the rounds lately to promote the Blu-ray release date, have you noticed any differences between which places he appears by himself versus the places he has Rian Johnson by his side?
    My observations are that he is allowed to appear by himself in circumstances where Disney has some or all editorial control, e.g. The View or IGN. Otherwise, where Disney lacks such control, such as in the CNNMoney interview, Mark Hamill is not allowed to take questions by himself.
    Does this appear the same to you?

Meesa thinks Master Luke has been on the island to long. The trailer says it all. It could have added more but it was well done far better than TLJ itself.😲😲😎

  • @jeffkovacs6521

    Totally agree... actually, as it sinks in a bit, I think you might have been a little too positive. It was rather "blah..." unwilling to take a stand or make a point about anything - in effect, splitting the baby and thereby leaving no one satisfied. This should have been released in January... it might have worked then - now... too much has happened, too much has been said and too much damage already done.
    Sadly, just as you say, things have now devolved to the point where even the biggest fans are just done talking about Star Wars. Though "fans" of TLJ may think that's a good thing, the truth is, NOTHING is more damaging to a franchise than to have a substantial part of its fan base decide there is nothing worth talking about any longer.
    I am really curious if the coming silence will be what finally captures Disney's attention (that, and the likely ABYSMAL DVD / Blu Ray sales...). What a sad, sad end to such a fun and inspiring series.

    They just keep repeating that. "You're just mad because It's not like the movie you had written in your head." I had _no_ story written in my head.
    Don't get me wrong. Sometimes I do. When I went to see Interstellar, I had a story written in my head (or at least an outline) that had jack shit to do with the library at the end of the universe, and ended with Matthew McConaughey coming home to his daughter, Jessica Chastain, and having to learn to get used to the fact that his daughter was his peer now, age-wise. That did not happen. And yeah it was a bit of a let-down.
    But I had absolutely no notion about where the story of TLJ should go. I was willing to go where it took me. I wasn't happy when they called Maz-the-orange-Yoda and she sent them to go get the magic key to unlock the next level, I was confused when Rey suddenly wanted to go and save Kylo from himself, and I was annoyed when I realized there was gonna be a 4th act. But I didn't go there with a check-list of things I wanted from this story, and I sure as hell didn't go looking for things to dislike about it.
