Maybe it wasn't the best-tasting frozen ham sandwich but just the 'best' ham sandwich for this person at this time to eat, leading them to the conclusion that maybe there's better food choices than frozen ham sandwiches. Maybe this person woke up and decided to cook for the first time in a long while and that was the fishes intention the whole time.

the best microwaved frozen ham sandwich will still be a microwaved frozen ham sandwich, but it's pretty cool that it's the best.
All of that buildup only for the ham sandwich to be mediocre at best is hilarious, and something I've experienced all too often. Not precisely with a ham sandwich, but trying something that someone spent a whole lot of time hyping up only to not care for it.
That why when I want people to try something i just tell them to try it, no explanation and said you'll lose nothing (if its cheap). The best part of finding a good food is when you discover it yourself. So atleast i want them to feel it too lol
my bf said he makes s tier chili. hypes that shit up for weeks when he's gonna make it. it's so mid i could live my life having never eaten it again

the protagonist never questioned the fact that the fish could talk to him but the butcher couldnt hear the fish lol
It's just that kind of narrative.
I mean he didn‘t question the fish swimming with him through a black nothing in the back of a shop, so i don‘t think the talking fish is his biggest problem 😅

I feel like, seeing as there was only one of the frozen ham sandwich the fish recommended in stock, it would be relatively safe to assume that the brand was discontinued, and that the one remaining in storage could have easily been expired. That, or the fish just has a very different sense of taste than the MC. I think both are equally likely

I was expecting something sinister, but instead got the knowledge that fish have a pretty average rate in ham sammiches.

This is amazing! The color combinations and the camera angles are definitely one of the highlights of this project, You've done a fantastic job with the character design as well. I'm looking forward to seeing more animation from you in the future. Your linework is really strong against the colors you choose and it absolutely fits together like a puzzle piece with your style. I feel like you must have had that scene at 1:43 or so with the sandwich ingredients since you started working on the project-- or was it indeed added later? Great work! I have one question: what's happening when the MC splits into two- one smaller, one larger? Is there a meaning to this part, or is it to emphasize the space they're in? Either way, incredible!
Thank you so much! The sandwich ingredients section was roughed out pretty early, but I added and changed stuff as I animated! I wanted it to feel organic. And the splitting scene was partially a way to get him to the size of the fish, partially to symbolize him leaving his previous state behind, and mostly because I simply wanted to animate it haha.

All jokes aside, this whole video was very cool. The colour palette and animations flowed really nicely, and the different angles and sound effects were nice too. Cool beans!

yes, they served us frozen ham sandwiches like everyday when i was in summer school, they didnt even bother to unfreeze them or anything so the sandwiches had literal ice in it. (and so did the milk, except it was practically undrinkable since it was all frozen ice milk)

the vibes on this animation are so stellar dude! the trippy smears over his face when he enters the darkness with the fish is so well animated :]
the entire story was basically:
chill man gets tricked by a talking smug dish into buying a frozen ham sandwich that doesn’t taste good
and that’s one of the best story premises i’ve ever seen

probably one of the most technically impressive Cal arts films I've seen this year, The colors, the morphing shapes, excellent movement. all in all, it kina goes hard

It's wacky seeing something this high quality from a channel with less than 1k subs. RUclips seems to have tuned the algorithm to recommend more small channels, which is the first based thing they've done in like 10 years. I really hope you get big!

Legendary work here, absolute god tier animation.
Fluid movement, so much expression, great use of colour and a sort of silly story that you could probably theorize about what it could be synonymous to but I'd guess it was just meant to tell the simple story mentioned in the title.
Pleasant to watch, 10/10.

I like how this can be a surreal and strongly metaphorical story of or it can just be an animation about a fish recommending a frozen ham sandwich to a store customer for no apparent reason. Good art allows for either interpretation. Very well done! I enjoyed it!

I love how you took something completely normal, like getting something from a grocery store which is a frozen ham sandwich in this case, and turned it into something nobody would’ve expected.

i love this, the animation is one thing but the concept is so sweet and silly. I like how the dude is only slightly hesitant to trust the random fish
the dialogue and voice acting is so calm. this could help me sleep if it were an hour long.

This is great! I always love seeing Calarts films, and you did an amazing job! I especially love the character designs, and the odd "existential" vibe I got from the discussion on ham sandwiches. The whole project seems like something you would see in a Midnight Gospel episode. Love it!
I love the animation but one thing I think really brought this together was the sound design. All the crips effects and the background track made this feel ethereal!
This was delightful and the ending earned a giggle. Just a good time!
