I love this guy, considering English is not his first language his understanding of the little things like "gubbins" and his ability to connect with UK culture is amazing. I love the fact he basically turns on its head what a lot of closeminded Brits think in that Germans have no sense of humour.
@@samjoshi1812 , I'm a German and I don't get what "intrinsic" means in reference to humor. And one thing is obvious in Germany: humor and jokes are regarded as a rather private matter and no part of an official or public business. Henning's comments on the social importance of humour are fascinating and show the value of hearing the objective impressions of a foreigner. He is so insightful and always entertaining to listen to. I hope he stays in the UK permanently. 👏
If what you say about the German comedian doesn’t swear, I am sold. Having spent a lot of money on tickets to listen to Jack Dee and Paul Merton to discover that every alternative word was f***, I was rather fed up to think that half of the money I had paid was for that, and that wasn’t funny in any way, consequently I felt that I had been swindled.
I think the difference between German and English humour is that Henning can say critical things about the Brits and they laugh and love him for it. I can't imagine a Brit doing the same to Germans in Germany and getting the same reception.

Swearing can improve a joke. But like anything else, if you say F or C 100 times the 100th time it’s just a word. It’s a la w of diminishing returns, it’s like women who joke about their periods. The first one was funny, the rest not so much.
Love Henning! He is brilliant. I love British humour but I also don't understand the need they have to use so much swearing and the focus so many of them have with the male sex organs and the drawing of said organs. Here in Canada that is left to 13 year old boys.
For the first one or two minutes I thought he would really say something interesting and elaborate about cross cultural humour, but then he simply returned to his (definitely funny but by now also) old stereotypical jokes.

Gubbins derives from a man by the name of Gubbins( I forget his rank) who worked in MI-9 ( yes really) designing gadgets to aid in the escape and exfiltration of allied service personnel from occupied territory. It has just come to mean gadgetry or internal workings.
As Angela Merkel and Gordon Brown are two of the worst leaders in history, perhaps having a sense of humor might be a prerequisite to being a good leader?

Merkel never had to tell a joke, because she is a joke. In current German politics, establishment politicians are the embodiment of unintentional humour. Now that really is clever. Not like our geniuses in Westminster, of course.
Love Henning, not only is he funny but you definitely get the feeling that away from stage and screen he's probably a genuinely nice and sincere guy.
