- Former school resource officer Scot Peterson is on trial for allegedly not following active shooter training during the Parkland school massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018. Peterson - dubbed “The Broward Coward” - has been criticized for his actions after surveillance video showed him remaining outside the high school while shots were fired inside killing 14 students and threes staff members. Peterson faces seven counts of felony child neglect, three counts of culpable negligence, and one count of perjury. He and his defense team believe the once “dedicated officer” did nothing wrong.

This entire trial is such a waste of taxpayers money. This man should have never been charged with any crime.
I have the utmost respect and sympathy for the families of the deceased and all the other victims, and wish NC got the death penalty. That being said, the state 100% did NOT prove their case. It’s frustrating that this even went to trial.
Couldn't agree more.
I agree as well. I'm frustrated that even after the judge questioned the definition of "caretaker" and especially when he said that he was concerned about the "caused their deaths" and asked the state, "Didn't Nicholas Cruz already do that?" For me, that would have been the time for the judge to do something, or the state withdraw because neither meets the definition of the charges. Not only that, but if they're successful in this case, what's to stop them from going after every other officer who took cover that day?
It's ridiculous, and even though my heart breaks for the families, I think Mr Peterson has been thrown under the bus to appease the families and get the department off the hook. If he's convicted, it's not going to ease their grief.
Totally agree. And all the officers saying you run to the gunfire had teams of officers and SWAT with them. This wasn't the job for one man.
@@MsWSMA agreed
Sucks that they had like what one or two rogue jurors in the NC case? If it wasn't for their feelings getting in the way, that pos would be staring at deaths door as he should be! He was screwed from the word go.
Scot may not have done what was expected of a police officer and SRO, but he’s not a caregiver to those children and therefore he cannot be guilty of Child Neglect. It’s that simple.
To this day I’m still disgusted NC did not receive the death penalty. That is the biggest injustice the families of the deceased have faced. I think even if Peterson had entered the 1200 building all that would have happened is NC would have killed him too.
Did you watch the trial ? He was a sick kid from age 3 we don’t execute sick people in this country
His bad behavior didn’t start as a teenage … age 3!!!
I'm sitting here wondering what kind of precedent this will set if he's found guilty. Law enforcement officers, teachers, coaches, basically anyone who is in the company of children when an event like this happens, could be found guilty of these charges along with the perpetrator.
It seems like a pretty slippery slope.
I think there is a difference between the duty of law enforcement va coaches or teachers.
True
Slippery slope? Terrible strawman argument. No one expects teachers or coaches to confront shooters, yet they do. Cops are expected to confront shooters because, and get this, that's their job. Its not the job of the teachers or coaches, yet they still try anyways. So stop it with the weak arguments, you're not as bright as you think.
That’s not right if you can’t pin point where the shots are coming from why are you guilty.. I can’t never tell where sounds are coming from, I would also think if he was nervous and in shock he didn’t know . Let him go he didn’t kill the kids.
Not Guilty!!!!
I did not know you could be charged with a crime in America for being a coward. I believe the officer. He did not know where the shots were coming from. There were so many fails on this shooting the Radios were not patched, the Sherriff. It is sad all around. Not guilty.
And other officers took cover as well. It's clear that in those four minutes, a lot of people had no clear idea of what was going on.
@@zxy78267completely agree
@@zxy78267😢*I have the upmost respect 🫡 for the shooter sacrifice his life for gun control.*
I don't think he was a coward. Like you literally said he didn't know where the shots were coming from.
I’m still trying to figure out how he’s even being tried for child neglect?? He didn’t shoot those kids… it’s ridiculous.
They were saying he was a “caregiver” to the children - but I don’t remember the state mentioning the word “caregiver” once throughout their case
@@Alina-ci3fbyup. Not one witness called him a caregiver.
That’s exactly why they haven’t proven their case. They haven’t proven he was a caregiver. They never even defined what a caregiver is supposed to be. Most people hear “caregiver” and think parents, teachers, doctors, nurses, personal care aides, people in health care, food service workers in the school, etc. I wouldn’t think of someone working maintenance is a caregiver. Their job is fixing the building and the grounds. They don’t care for kids or staff. An SRO doesn’t provide “care” in a traditional sense. I doubt he would fit into a legal definition. And the prosecution hasn’t given a legal definition of caregiver either.
the charges are a stunt; a PR exercise to placate a public indignant at the lacklustre police response, and to draw attention away from the real guilty party, the gun sales military-industry complex.
When the judge started questioning the prosecution yesterday about how SP was a caregiver, it was obvious to me that the judge doesn't think they proved their case either 🤷♀️
In the US being a coward obviously means you might go to jail for that ... wow
He should not take the stand in my opinion. I think the jury has what they need to make a good decision.
Not guilty
The prosecution is very condescending towards these young ladies.
Its very political
I'm still on the fence with this one, though I do think the moniker 'Coward of Broward' should have been reserved exclusively for Cruz (tattooed on his forehead preferably).
Watching Dylan Redshaw testify made me tear up. It’s hard watching the people who were there that day re-experience the trauma
They blamed the school superintendent as if he put the gun in the hands of the shooter. They messed him up and still not satisfied .now they want to destroy this police officer. They need to police their own school.
Agree. They want to blame other’s. Jurors has the last word.
I prayed for not guilty.
Ohio hey murdering of little children, Uvalde and other shootings allegedly were not vicious as Florida.
Blame NC!
Can’t the cameraman take a feed off the microphones? This would be a no-brainer. The audio sucks.
Suppose the jurors DO read chats. What does that mean?
It would compromise the trial because that juror would then have outside influence
What is the name of the prosecution attorney?
I think the female assistant state attorney is Kristen Gomes.
@@Sarah_AS78 Thanks!
Defense wants to highlight the fact this was a majorly different scenerio for officers...while also highlighting all the fights and fake id's Peterson dealt so well with. Foh
I can’t hear a thing
why is he in jail, i dont get it
Huh? He’s not in jail.
If even the Mass murderer didn't get the death penalty, there's no way this coward is getting any charges 😡
Is this man is custody? I sure hope not! SMFH! FL takes the L on this one!
No
I would give u a thumbs up if you would show the screens when witnesses are testifying !
Lmao body language experts needed for this defense witness also✌🏼😍
Goolsby: "gee wonder where this man, laying outside an open building door, could possibly have been shot from. Wonder why these other cops are moving in on this same building...guess there's no stimulus here to indicate the 1200 building." What a load of bs.
This judge is absolutely ridiculous.
The judge is ridiculous
WHY is this young lady only seeing Peterson on the video transmission Total sus!!
I have prayed for Not guilty.
Bogus charges and allegedly, vengefulness.
God is great.
Nicolas Crews killed them children.
Oh god! Dah
The female prosecutor is a Camille Vasquez wannabe.
The defense is calling up the kids and not making them cry or take off their clothes.
It's interesting how the defense keeps putting Witnesses up but not one of these Witnesses support the defendant.
I keep thinking it is amazing that all the prosecutions witnesses kept saying that all the information that they knew then or know now was definitely not knowable by the dependent for the 4 minutes he is being charged with.
Also if they back up the defences theory…them not liking SP is actually really good for SP because they are saying it begrudgingly.
Not true. The state hasn’t even touched how Scot is a caregiver to even charge child neglect. It’s ridiculous. The monster who did this is in jail. Scot did nothing wrong..,at all!
Totally agree. State relying on a jury sympathy vote. If they follow the law, not guilty all year long.
I feel like Peterson's lawyer is mostly dredging up the trauma of witnesses just to get a sound bite from people that didn't know where the shots were coming from, or people that have said his buzz word "echo." I don't see Peterson as a danger to society, but he may be used as an example to other people that didn't follow their training during a crisis. I wonder what the plea deal would have been if this didn't go to trial.
The state is doing the same thing. They brought two kids who were shot during that day just to ask them to describe the events. Seemed irrelevant aside from eliciting sympathy for the sake of the state’s argument.
If your name is Scot/Scott Peterson, you’re apparently screwed!!
What a horrible name
I wonder how jurors go home and watch this to see what they missed while in the jury room?
I doubt they would be allowed to re watch this especially seeing as there are comments which may influence them in some way
@@Sarah_AS78 oh yeah, the judge told them are not allowed to watch the news or discuss the case, but do they do it anyway. I just wonder if they pickup on all the little tiffs between Judge Fein and Eilargsh and want to see what's happening. After all they are not sequestered.
@@donaldjohnson394i wouldn’t be able to help myself if I was a juror, I’d have to have a sneaky watch and read of the comments. We’re human after all haha
Not a single witness today helped the defense 😂
@InLieuTube they really didn't though 😂😂😂 between pointing out how he didn't follow protocol to how they did things while he hid
@InLieuTube sweety get your lips off marks starfish no matter how hard you suckle he won't notice you
You people who fail to see the need for charges, have no issue with men like this protecting your kids. How disgusting!
Child neglect doesn't mean you personally hurt them, It's DUE TO action/inaction resulting in harm or death. Liken to a Patrol officer refusing (or even attempting) to push a child out of the path of an incoming car for fear of himself being harmed. Peterson put the value of his own life over that of the children he swore an oath to put on the line to protect, that's the JOB period!! Do you people not appreciate what that badge means nor the risks every time they put that uniform on? Likely, he chose the position as an sro thinking it as less dangerous, yes willing to serve & protect, but in a limited capacity & minimal risk to his overall safety. So, when the unimaginable happened, his attitude became clearly evident "Nope, I didn't sign up for this." COWARD COWARD COWARD! Would you or I have rushed in? Tried to approach? Or even wanted to? No, n that's why we didn't personally chose this line of work, accepting full sacrificial duties! HE DID (half-heartedly as shown). He had no business being in any such heroic profession! Vest, ya say? He declined to wear it! Rifle ya say? He declined that too. Leave that sad defense out of it! More evidence he seen his job as a "safe" bet. Beyond damning evidence he had no intention to approach/risk his life: "stay at least 500ft away from 1200 building" AS HE DID!
I’m astounded by Scot Peterson’s heroism. On the day of the shooting, LE personnel were just talking all over each other on the radio. That is, until Scot Peterson bravely told them to take turns. Nannying the radio communications is just one of his many acts of heroism and to think the general public has been so egregiously misled. Justice for the Lion of Broward!
GUILTY! No other verdict should be reached but guilty on all counts. He had a duty, as a contracted school employee, to follow his training and protect those children and teachers.
He was not a contract employee
He did not know the shooter was in bldg 1200 and he had a right to take cover as the other officers did, because they too did not know where the shots or “firecrackers”were coming from.
the judge's unblinking stare as he gazes at an attractive young female witness (or the female counsel with her bum always in the air) with undisguised fixation is somewhat unsettling.
He looks at everyone that is at the podium speaking, then looks at the witnesses when they answer. I don't see anything inappropriate.
@@SandyOhNo i knew someone would say something like that - but just saying it doesn't make it true. it's not just whether he looks at someone, it's the way he does it; the expression on his face, its fixated immobility. He doesn't stare like that at a male counsel or a male witness; he only looks like that when he's staring at the female prosecutor and occasionally at a young pretty witness.
you can't blame him i suppose - his job is pretty boring otherwise....
He also has a monitor in front of him in his eyeline and he needs to watch the jury - also in that eyeline. Calm down with the pervy accusations, they might reflect more on you.
@@shyeahh Yes, dear. No, dear. Three bags full, dear.
Omg every single witness the defense put on has proved the states case!🎉
The state? They proved Scot is a caregiver. You might wanna watch again, they proved nothing.
I don’t think you are watching the same trial as me. I’m 3 witnesses in and all of them have identified a different place for the shooter and thinking that the shooter was outside.
@@sallycinnamon5370 sigh... you are just the sort of easily led astray person the defense is hoping will be on the jury... 1) the kids in their classroom hear a sound coming into the classroom through the window, so naturally they think it's coming from outside. 2) the staff in building 1 hear sounds coming from the direction of building 1200, so that's where they go, regardless of whether they say the sounds were coming from the direction of the carpark (which is the same as the direction of building 1200).
Deppity Dawg Peterson was right outside building 1200 when Cruz was inside it, shooting it up. He wasn't in a classroom in another building, he wasn't miles away on the other side of the school, he was right outside the east door of 1200. So he did the prudent thing and took cover, keeping that door in sight, taking sensible precautions. Now all you have to decide is whether he should go to jail for not being Rambo.
I love it another good witness foe the prosecution !!!!!
With all due respect, I don't see how that is. Do you know the charges for this case? Because they haven't proven that at all.
Google the Family Law definition of a caregiver in the State of Florida. It isn’t this defendant. If he wasn’t a caregiver than he can’t be guilty of Child Neglect.
