If your back cut is horizontal, the cut is the shortest possible cross section of the tree. By sloping it, the area being cut is increased. Terry Hale has a great channel with thoughtful and detailed videos on the physics involved with tree cutting.
good video gave me some ideas on ways to bring down some big trees on my property line next year i plan to get a tractor in the spring now just trying to decide which tractor to get on my budget
Tough to believe you don't like the blue tractor. Had a Ford 4610 and Case 580L at a place I worked. Used the Case for most tree work. Road maintenance with the Ford w/ 5' box blade and 9' blade. Both worked great. Chained up 4610 was great pushing snow off roads. For me tractor work is FUN.
Those techniques are not OSHA approved folks. It's just a matter of time before something bad happens. But he is a good problem solver, I'll give him that.
@@AndrewCamarata I'm sure you are a great prognosticator Andrew...great at everything else. I hope next time when something bad happens, you are in fact alive to do it differently the next time. With a couple of more pulleys you can multiply the forces on the tree while decreasing the force on the tractor with multiple additional anchors (trees).
every pulley slows your pull too, and the speed the tree moves can be a factor when felling, and who even knows if there is enough wire rope to triple the length and not sacrifice your safe distance, so the tree avoids landing on the tractor...
Hey Andrew, great job. You're a great problem solver. Keep on doing good job. And seems to me that you go able and beyond when you jobs. You should make the home owner s orange paint or orange flags trees to be cut, and so we will know too?? God bless you, man thanks for sharing..
Love what you doing especially when you push trees down in particular in my opinion you don’t have to play the background music it would do very well without that!
Is there a reason you don't wear cutting chaps to prevent leg injuries? Just wondering if you find them too restrictive or something. Seems like a chainsaw accident could shut you down for a while
Andrew, I know you know what your doing but I hate seeing you work a machine that you have in gear with no one on it. We all like you too much to see anything happen to you.
Some modern tractors come equipped with a feature to operate the vehicle while standing behind it to assist in the task of hooking on 3-pt hitch attachments. Yep, stand behind, probably between the implement and the tractor, and intentionally cause the tractor to move in the name of "convenience." Better yet, a Massey-Ferguson 1754 has a button on the rear fender to activate the PTO (that spinning thing at the rear where the farmer's arm gets ripped off) without the farmer being in the seat, presumable for convenience, not just to pull a horrifying prank.
Yep, anybody’s guess on how much force the winch or excavator was putting on the trunks as he was cutting. If too much force, too soon, and the hinge is still too thick for hinge fibers to bend, the partially cut trunk will split open vertically instead. (I.e. research: “barberchair”)
Probably not easy on my machine but I’m pulling trees this size with a zero turn mower. Kubota Z Can’t knock them down though. I really wish they made the zero turn more useful At least a plow for snow All it can do is tow and cut grass. Push the odd thing out of the way. Etc.
Very nice work. A lot of people don't know how to cut down a tree right, and end up flattening their houses and cars or worse. What did you do with the wood?
Hi...I do the same at a camp...but I leave a little higher stump so it hits the guard. I did it once with a low stump & got the tractor hung up..took 2 hours to get it off.
I sure wish I would have married a man like you Hands-On I love it figures it out on your own I love it you got a baby you are the man and I really mean you are the man be safe God bless
Does that tractor not have a safety shutoff switch when you leave the seat while it's in gear, or is it disabled? Being able to have the tractor push while you're cutting is one advantage of a manual transmission tractor over a hydrostatic, even if it is a bit unsafe if you're not vigilant.
I must be getting old. When I was younger I would do the same thing and jump back on. Now that I'm older I'm thinking OMG! Still now I can see how you smashed the grill on the tractor. If the tree splits that could take out your front end. I would have kept my Ford 1600 with nine speed transmission if it had FWD. They didn't have that option till 3 years latter when they came out with the different sizes of the Japanese Fords.
Here is everything needed to do that setup. Winch: amzn.to/2TdCsZv Jumper cables: amzn.to/2zb4NXE winch plate: amzn.to/2DGUwqk Tractor hitch: amzn.to/2DHhXzA
TractorData#com Ford shows a 22 hp Shibaura 1.3L 3-cyl diesel engine for the 1520 tractor. I can't believe what you can do with your tractor. Does it have a more powerful engine?
I love it, unfortunately I cant use a chainsaw but 10-15 min in a day, unless a super light home owner one, & even then ill be hurting with 2 tanks of gas through it, I can do about 2-3 batteries on my electric Dewalt saw, my left arm will draw up close to my body, and I can barely move it with right arm, and will be severe pain for 2-3 days. I once did a lot of cutting from teenager until mid 30's when that started happening, I cut & sold firewood.
How come you're not worried about walking that tractor over pulling those trees like that - you got jammed up several times. Maybe it's because those turf tires will spin first? With Ag tires for sure I would think you could walk the tractor right over. I always pull in reverse so if the load jams it's not possible to walk the tractor over on top of yourself.
Bout what I expected 😂 not exactly rocket science. With the winch, tow strap tree hugger saver, some chain, and even just your car and a chainsaw or any chopping device. U can cut damn near anything in any direction
"Yeah, honey, let's move into the forest and cut down all the trees." You have a job to do, and you do it well, but I can't help but question the judgement of some people.
Did you see the the baby killed by a tree in north Carolina. We love the trees but we keep a safe distance from are dwellings . Same as bears or any other thing. Would you have everybody live in a city?
This Sucks! It's not the videos problem but in the first 2:27 minutes it kept buffering so bad that I couldn't get a complete run. Pool, what pool, house, what house, winch... The tree was up, then down (in both views). I'll try to watch some more but I doubt it will be any better. :-( I heard but didn't see any of the trees fall down.
Dorian Payne that tractor is very good, if your looking for a tractor buy a Ford, New Holland, Yanmar, Kubota. Don't buy a John Deere or any of those cheap ones.
Trees die and/or get blown down all the time. It's not like the timber companies who clearcut and then spray herbicides on millions of acres to keep anything from growing that might compete with the species of trees they plant...which are hybrids that don't reproduce.

Loving that Ford. Great work. Great vid! Deserves far more views.
So many uses for a small little tractor with a loader. I use my Kubota for all kinds of things people normally dont associate a tractor with.
very true -- a loader is an implement that once you have one, you begin to think differently about how you might use it, and it attracts work.
I keep drooling over those trees as fuel for my outside wood boiler!

If you put to much stress on a tree that is being cut the tree can split and kick back which might be bad for your health.
