My main bass is a ATK700 made in japan from 2000 with the tri-coil humbucker and single coil, it's an amazing bass, amazing tone and solid construction, very underrated bass
The coolest thing about this bass for me is the headstock shape and the different tuner spacing on each side. I’m a huge Slipknot fan and I learned that the late Paul Gray’s signature Ibanez bass he had in the last 2000’s was based on the ATK series. His didn’t have the pick guard and it was a neck through vs a bolt on. Rest In Peace Paul Gray.
There is one PGB1 currently here in Germany in the eBay yes without Pick g uard but the neck is bolt on, not neck trough. At the end I decided to get an ATK 300 I don't see many differences besides the ebony fingerboard and the Slipknot logos on the fretboard. This is not 200-300€ worth for me
Just got one this week. I was extremely lucky to find a brand new one from 2008, forgotten in a garage, full of dust, but with all the plastic foils on and the price tag still hanging. I absolutely love it!
i know Scott Reeder from Kyuss used one for a long time, at least since 1995 to sometime during the 2000’s, was used on tour and i believe for the last Kyuss album. Paul Gray also had a signature ATK bass made before his passing that he used in tour ( not sure about the studio ). Very attractive, very versatile, I wish they’d come back!
I have the fiver version, ATK 305. Love it, pretty versatile. You're absolutely correct, doesn't emulate other basses exactly but does well to approach the neighborhood of those tones.👍🏾
I have a love/hate relationship with this bass. There are days when I just love it's unique tone, but often I fight with it to get anything usable from it. It sounds best plugged directly into the interface (however overdrives it easily), while plugged into a GK 810 it easily get lost in the mix. It really depends on fresh strings. Low bass is not focused, low mids sound bad, and highs are super clangy. Hi mids are great. After a couple of years I bought a Jazz Bazz and it sounds right in any situation. I always avoided Fender, but in the end it won. Now the ATK got flats, which tamed the clanginess, but I still fight with it constantly looking for usable settings.
Maciej Brusiło I agree about the Fender Jazz. Works for anything. Sorry about the tough experience with the ATK! I played it on a studio project and it sounded great, but never tried it live.
I had an atk 750 that I had to sell and it kills me every time I see one. These are by far my favorite basses. There’s something about that bridge that gets me. Awesome review.
Love the hairstyle. You look like Braun Strowman from WWE minus the hair. You described pretty much my Ibanez ATK200. Great playing once again throughout the video. Thanks for sharing your review with us.
Constantine Isslamow thanks bro! Means a lot! I was tired of wearing hats 24/7 due to my receding hairstyle. Thanks for all the kind words my friend! Keep the great content coming.
Cool bass. I have a 1996 USATK 5 string. I bought it new in 96. It was designed by Dave Bunker and the USA line was only around for 95 and 96. I believe they made around 400 USA models over the two year production period. Another really cool ATK is the 700 model.
I bought it tday, from bassist of famous Czech metal band Krucipüsk. Little overpriced, but i think it is worth the price. Older wood in great shape without any problems in nearly mint condition. Love from first look.
I'm getting an ATK300 made in Indonesia soon! Looking forward to, I'll let you know what my impression is. I like your point on the 'Stingray Killer thing rumble man' thumbs up on that, no bass sounds like the other one! The only complain that I think I'll have is the weight! Let see! Can't wait man! Thanks for your videos! Peace!
My first "real" bass :) I actually wanted to get a G3 but ended up with this one since it has 3 single coils in it. They don't have the same tone at all but it has great versatility and one of the mode has a nice low end to it. The japan made ones are quite sought and believed to have a better sound but the indonesian ones had a few modifications such as the truss rod access which is now similar to stingray one I believe. Great review especially for beginners which don't have money to spend !
Thanks so much for your feedback and the kind words. Yeah, the front position of this pickup definitely has some usable lows. I've played this bass in mixes and like it! God bless.
As i remember they called it trembacker. Interesting designes. I also have inetesting design on my made in Germany Warwick bass which my mother gifted me long time ago when i was teen for Birthday. It is active dual singel coils pickup which they call MEC TwinJazz
@@matthewbeckwith7844 I think they ment it is triple(3) coil picup. as humbacker is dual(2) coil picup, and singel is single(1) coil picup. The pic up which i have on my made in Germany Warwick Vampyre Dark Lord 4 is also intresting design becase it is not humbacker design but is is 2 real singel coils in 1 picup. So you have double singel coil sound. It is like you have clarity of singel coil and power of humbacker ;D
I came across this bass some years ago and I was impressed with the sound, it didn't sound anything like an ibanez , I've been looking for it ever since 😭😭
I just bought a ‘95 Sunburst from Russia via Reverb from reputable seller. One of my best gigs ever was playing Cream, Hendrix, SRV covers in a power trio at the world-famous Roxy Theatre on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. Sold it which was a mistake but part of Life. I switched to a very unique and incredible 60’s long scale EB3. Bad choice on a premier gig, it played like a detuned violin on stage and I hadn’t worked out all the quirks of it’s neck and tones. The drummer showed up late for the sound check and the crew punished me with no monitors to boot. I wish I had used the ATK. It was heavy but solid. So for 2022 I have re-ignited the ATK (fretted) 300 experience. RD
I have a japan one (‘95) assembled in Korea :) later these were produced in Indonesia and China... ( the one in the video is a “new” one) ... and the USA ATK was a nice project as well, with the special neck design and beautiful finish... I love this bass, you should get a vintage one!
this is a great review, and thanks for demoing with fingerstyle, pickstyle, and slap/pop as well as showing the bass in a mix using DI. Too many people just wank around with their fingers with only the bass and use their camera phone, and imo it makes their video basically worthless because you can't actually get an idea what the instrument really sounds like.
Daniel: not sure if I told you but I bought an Ibanez SR506EB six string in aged mahogany. My first six string so it has been an adventure lol. Ibanez makes nice instruments. I used to own a SR405QM a couple of years ago. Thanks and God bless. Parrick
@@ICGamingLP Hey brother sorry for the late reply, if it’s in good shape it’s worth it but I would not pay any more than that. I love mine and I’ll never get rid of it.
I managed to get a 2000 atk 1305 prestige. After years of wanting a 5 string bass, I just cant get used to the fifth string. Its the one where it has the 5 switch (like a guitar). Its just too many options, too many sounds, and too many strings. Thanks for the review man, It was nice hearing from the family of my bass.
Does anyone know the difference between the ones made in Japan and Korea? From what I found it looks like they both were produced by Cort but at different factories. Didn’t know if the electronics are different. Thank you.
Has anyone replaced 3-way switch with a 5-way switch? Sort of similar to the old Ibanez iceman guitar with three coil humbucker that Steve Miller used.
I picked one of these up years ago at a local store that tends to charge way to much for evrything. I went in cuz i was bored and saw this on decent sale because nobody wanted it and they couldnt get rid of it, i liked the sound.
you reckon it's worth the money? my local music store has one for sale for a somewhat okay price and I actually really enjoyed the tone when trying it. I just wasn't too sure whether the single pick-up is actually as versatile as other basses.
@@lara_bejes7890 personally I think it's worth the money. If anyone has an extra pickguard or neck for one of these (in good shape) let me know. I need to replace both. I bought one without the pg, and the neck is basically toast. Such a bummer because I absolutely love mine. I mostly play a fiver, but this is my four string and it needs to be in good shape when it's needed. Thanks for the video, Rumblin Man. Tasty player!

Hey Rumblinman, I was wondering : did you ever notice some kind of hum or buzzing when turning one of the knobs, especially the treble one ? It disappears when I turn the treble down and also what I believe to be the volume knob. The guitar tech didn't seem to find this as unpleasant as I do, but I read here and there that this was a common issue on newer ATK (at least in two stories I read). I can adjust that a bit but fear it will keeping me from exploring all its tonal possibilities. If you have any thoughts on it or did hear something when testing it... Thank you
Ety Ramone With most active basses I have tried, turning up the treble knob will bring in a little bit of “white noise”. This mostly seems to happen with more affordable active basses. But it’s nothing overpowering.
MrRuhavik hey man. You can play pretty much anything on these. I actually played it on a pop song and it sounded great. But I would especially recommend it for funk, slap playing, reggae and modern R&B.
