    It was so surprising to see people offloading and trying to sell their entire collection! It really was a phase for those people. But like you said, I’m glad that the ones remaining are the ones that actually enjoy reading the manga we buy and continue to love and admire the figures we collect 😆🥳

      Well said! Maybe I did speak too soon with the current writers and actor strike, it seems like anime will be getting another push since they are not affected by either strike. We'll see what happens...

    I hope that because of this second hand prices will start going down, I want to buy a truly out of print series that I've only read at the library!

      I hope so too! I have seen the $4 section at Book-Off expanding so there might be a chance that the prices will start going down.

    I'm not surprised or disappointed. Everyone's interests change all the time. I just hope those manga volumes are resold at a reasonable price.

      I think the prices will start going down in the resale market and you'll start seeing reprints hit the store sooner.

    I agree with all your points and I think one of issues that happens on Tiktok is that it glorifies overconsumption in any community. Even like cleaning products were routinely sold out because everyone wants what other people have. Even though it’s over with anime/manga, it’s still happening in other communities with fashion or home products.
    I’ve also been an OG collector and lockdown was finally the time I had extra $$ to spend on manga because we weren’t leaving the house. But luckily since I’ve been collecting, I had my wits and knew not to give into fake OOP and resellers taking advantage.

    • @LauraNeuzeth
      @LauraNeuzeth  11 месяцев назад

      Absolutely! The same thing happened on RUclips a few years ago when it glorified overconsumption and now it's TikTok's turn. It's really interesting seeing the same thing happen in a different platform.

    I got into reading Mangas and Manhwas very recently(2022).
    Personally, I love this community. I am not a collector, but I love seeing others do so. As of right now, I read online, but there are a few I would like to own in my library ♡

    I’m surprised but at the same time not surprised - i’m just happy that i won’t have to fear and rush out to the store in order to get the new releases - i recently quit my job in order to take care of myself and my mental health so now i have to be even more mindful financially when buying manga and anime merch so a part of me can understand why it can all die down pretty soon for some

    • @LauraNeuzeth
      @LauraNeuzeth  11 месяцев назад +2

      I feel you! It's so nice not having to rush to stores in fear that a volume will sell out and you won't see that restocked for months. It's definitely make it more enjoyable for me to just read/collect at my own pace.

    I’m just a little sad that I don’t see manga rec videos on TikTok as often. I’d like to find more content creators that show their hauls and recs.

      The fyp has been kind of a mess. I would suggest looking into the "following" tab more or going to the creator's pages if you know they post regularly. I do wish they would fix their interface and let you scroll chronologically so you don't miss posts.

  • @DSIrocker

    I wish I kept up posting about such on tiktok at the time. Because I was already part of the manga community for many years. But the boom kind of pushed me further down the rabbit hole than harder into the mainstream manga sphere. Until lately being broke and just getting so deep into it so quickly, it’s made me also want to, at least, slow down on my manga consumption. But I have loved it for so so long that I don’t think I will be leaving the rabbit hole I’ve gotten into now lol and even so I will always still be a fan to some extent!

    • @LauraNeuzeth
      @LauraNeuzeth  11 месяцев назад

      You can still get into it if you want! People are always looking for new content creators to follow, so it's never too late to hop back into it.

    At least as you said, animanga becoming main stream means we now have more options to find merch in commonly frequented main stream stores. To get figures and stands, you had to go to specfic collectors store or online. Now it is much easier, that is my silver lining at least.
    Also it has now become more socially acceptable means more production and demand as well so look foward to mangas mawhas getting english translations and prints.
    Ive never imagined one of my favorite manwhas was ever going to get an english translation yet 10+ years later is getting it 1st english print as an omnibus later this year. I prefer single volumes but im so happy its getting a print at all im not even bothered ❤

      Yes! So much good things have come out of this. Now we're getting more Japanese mangakas getting flown to the US to meet their fans, so there's a lot to look forward to.

    I love your energy once again, you're a delight to watch. ♥
    Either I'm living in my own world once more or there really is such a huge difference between Europe (Germany) and the USA. (Or maybe it's just me not being on TikTok, haha.) I was one of those unlucky employees (woohoo retail) and never got to experience any sort of quarantine, so specifically 2020 and 2021 were like any other year for me. I didn't really notice any more interest around me in anime and manga, but I definitely saw the hype in the houseplant market, here on RUclips and even at work. I work at a DIY store and am guilty of partaking in the plant hype in 2020, lol, but I could never get rid of my plant babies.
    Once my fiancé and me moved in together in May of 2021 I started buying more manga, but shelves seemed always stocked here. Getting manga second hand has always been on the more expensive side here in Germany, so I didn't notice any change. I'd say I even got some really good deals the last couple of years. :D But I must say that I do see lots of people selling the newest manga as of late. Wotakoi, Sweat & Soap, lots of 2-in-1 releases like Blue Spring Ride that have been published not too long ago, just to name a few.
    At the end of the day I'm on your side: let 'em leave the community. More space (audience) and stuff to buy for us old folks who have been into that hobby for the last two decades. ;)

    • @LauraNeuzeth
      @LauraNeuzeth  11 месяцев назад

      Oh I bet there's a lot of differences between the U.S. and Germany. I feel like the U.S. just thrives in overconsumption so people get into things super quickly and then just abandon that hobby.
      Thank you for sharing your insight about how it was like in Germany!

    I’ve seen this happen in the bjd community as well, people buying recasts from AliExpress and reviewing them or influencers getting a doll from a recast company.

    • @CvmTea
      @CvmTea Год назад +1

      I was honestly shocked to see a trend of cosplayers on Instagram buying BJD recasts and cosplaying as the doll for clout. The design of the doll was inspired by Junji Ito's Tomie. I actually bought its full set uniform and had put it on my own doll for funzies before finding those posts.

    • @LauraNeuzeth
      @LauraNeuzeth  11 месяцев назад

      I feel like this happens in every community. It's pretty fascinating to see because I feel like the younger generation feels like the downfall of a community/hobby is a "new" thing but it's really not.

    • @nyampokun
      @nyampokun 11 месяцев назад

      I don’t mind younger people in the hobby it’s just that people feel very strongly about them supporting sites who sell fake bjds thus taking away sales from the real artists and legit companies. I mean why buy fakes when there’s plenty of cheap legit companies that sell just as nice dolls. I bought from those companies and liked their quality.

  • @ifiaintreadin

    This was great! I have always done book reviews, and recently decided to just concentrate on mangas to get specific… but yeah. No clout chasing here😂, I just love talking about mangas and never saw myself profiting off of it though. Kind of like the adult coloring book craze. I’m glad I was immersed in coloring while it was hot in 2015/2016 and 2020. I still show off my coloring though 😅

    • @LauraNeuzeth
      @LauraNeuzeth  11 месяцев назад +1

      OMG yesss! I remember when everyone got into adult coloring books and then it just fell off with the people who got into it because it was "trendy." I feel like every hobby sees the same cycle of people getting into it for the clout and then quickly leaving once they got what they wanted out of it.

I've been really benefiting from everyone selling their manga and figures....it honestly has me collecting even more from before but definitely saving more money than I thought doing it that way too. It's so interesting. I also noticed there's been a shift in which platforms animanga creators are moving from/to.

    Fine by me. I bought Wotakoi for dirt cheap recently. On the otherhand, it's difficult selling my manga rn weirdly since others are also offloading their own. Im just trying to curate my collection into specific niches that I enjoy.
