- Anyone else realize just how disturbing these are? I can't stop watching the Burger King one, it's the most disturbing one.

Not long after I was born, my Grandma got $500k because of one of these law firm commercials

The key components to traumatize 2000s kids:
•Horror game soundtrack
•Monotone voices
•Disturbing images
•List of scary sounding diseases
•Making everyday things sound like freaking murder devices
And the worst part:
•Having these come on right after your happy, colorful, harmless kids shows.
Absolutely True
I remember watching a cartoon on Noggin back in 2008, and I saw a creepy ad about contaminated bananas, with creepy music, unsettling voices, and some strange diseases that a 4 year old would not understand. I started crying, and had nightmares for two weeks or so
Honestly these are pretty scary, and would be especially for children. I'm not in America though, I'm in Australia and by far the scariest ads we had here were our government anti-smoking PSAs. One particularly freaky one was this ad where there was an old picture of this young woman back in the 60s or something and she's with her family. Then this really raspy, creepy voice narrates saying "my name is Terri and I used to be a smoker" and then it shows her and like she's so clearly incredibly sick from the smoking... That ad is the whole reason I don't watch cable TV late at night.
Also check out the grim reaper 80s AIDS ad.
@@themoon7435 I’ve seen that one with Terri. She’s no longer living.
@@cheseofficial1476 interesting. I'd like to know more
Edit: also, that probably gave monkeys nightmares, especially Paul the 3-eyed monkey because noggin was a part of nickelodeon and it still is, even though it changed to Nick Jr. Maybe for that reason it played some time around when the logos were shown after jimmy neutron.

I guess what makes these so terrifying is not only the music, but the context behind it: It’s basically saying a company f*cked up big time, and many people may be subject to serious side effects.
The music may be scary, but the Pokémon one actually hits different due to the loss of music. That one gives off “no more fun and games, this is serious” vibes.
I actually think the Burger King/Pokémon one is more intimidating than all the attorney ads, mostly because of its lack of music as well as the lack of over-the-top dramatization. Its just the Poké Ball in a dark background with a nameless voice spending 15 seconds at most telling you precisely what the issue is and what to do about it.
On top of that, unlike most of the other products, Burger King and Pokémon, especially Pokémon, have a history of being targeted toward children, adding to the intimidation.
true.
I remember the peanut butter one. I was around 5 years old at the time and I thought they were talking about ALL peanut butter, not just Peter Pan peanut butter. So I took all the jif and skippy peanut butter we had and put it on the shelf and called the number on the screen... they hung up on me. So I threw all the peanut butter away because I thought it had salmonella. Funny story, but I will never forget the fear that I felt from that. The music too is just terrifying.
chances are they also had salmonella bc many factories (especially jif) aren’t very clean.
so you basically saved yourself that day lmao
Being a 2000s kid and hearing these broadcasts after staying up too late probably messed me up to some degree. These are EFFECTIVE, man.
Yeah its why I don't watch live TV at night (I usually watch Hulu or Netflix)
I'm SCARRED-
Especially the Peter Pan peanut butter considering the salmonella outbreak as well as the BP Oil Spill.
There's nothing more American than "you might be eligible for a cash reward"
As opposed to what? A heartfelt apology? Pinkie pwomise never to do it again?
@@LostSox the way he say "cash reward" is like winning a lottery or a prize award, in civil lawsuits the appropriate legal term is "compensation".
@@brieflyInvestigation For one thing the word is "award," and that is the correct term for compensation won in a lawsuit. But also, the only thing more American than winning money in a tort lawsuit is getting away with making piles of money off defective products and then shaming the people harmed by the products when they sue over it.

nothing is as scary as the tv randomly switching to a blue and a terrifying female voice comes on saying stuff about an amber alert in the middle of the night.
Amber alerts they’re more terrifying than these commercials for me, and I know it is for everyone because duh, but it’s not only the context but that sound of the Amber alert is just terrifying I would freeze in fear every time I was in bed and heard that awful tone
I vividly remember having nightmares about these. When I was little I would run out of the room whenever these came on tv
It’s also creepy seeing Lexapro here since I take it
I thought I was the only one 😳
I’m surprised the Ford F series 6.4 L powerstroke wasn’t on here
These commercials scared the crap out of me as a child.
The Burger King one is by far the scariest.
The monotone voice and black background certainly didn't help, what made it worse was the VHS distortion as it makes me feel like something is about to pop out of the black background.
The sound and the screen effect is the one that makes the Burger King one scary
LMAO watch out for those poke balls
@@LermaBeanagreed
I really hated these commercials as a child. Even the voices gave me shivers down my spine.
Whenever I used MLB's streaming service, one of the most common commercials I saw was for a weed killer called round up. It literally came up every other commercial break. During one particular break however, the same commercial played again but then RIGHT AFTER it finished, one of these PSAs came up stating that THE SAME WEED KILLER apparently was causing lung cancer or something like that and that you may be entitled to whatever.
That's how they did it with the Pokemon Burger King one too. The recall commercial came up after the original commercial
Look what I just found vimeo.com/623820237
Incidentally, Roundup is absolutely safe. The court case that ruled it caused cancer was complete bullshit and not based on any real science. Which is why you may have noticed, it's still available for purchase at any local home improvement store.
That Bayer rice ad is actually very interesting, because of the story behind it.
What had happened is that Bayer had made an experimental genetically modified rice strain and it accidentally got out and found its way into the fields, it then crossbred with the rest of the rice and tainted a ton of rice farmland with its modified genes. The rice was designed to be resistant to Bayer Liberty herbicide, though it was still in the experimental development stages. The rice itself was fine to eat, however most countries were still suspicious of it and didn't want to import it from the US, because it was experimental rice. This caused US rice farmers to lose a ton of money. Bayer eventually paid $750 million dollars out to the farmers who bought rice seeds from Bayer.
Thank you, because that one really had me scratching my head. A lot of these law firm ads are pretty clear cut in why you may want to seek their consultation, but the rice one was oddly ambiguous, which wasn't helped by the fact it's also somehow weirdly specific at the same time.
The peanut butter one scarred me for life ngl. The worst part is that these would go right after kids shows
This triggered some genuine fight-or-flight response in me lmao.
the birth control ones make me really sad, it's a shame that all birth control pills have such shitty side effects. you could make a blanket out of the paper that comes with the box of pills...
As a kid I was never able to sleep unless I had background noise so I'd often keep my TV on and these commercials would wake me up out of a sound sleep
The music is what really makes this disturbing. We associate it with fear and urgency. I wonder how these recall ads would be with a less foreboding track accompanying them. I would also like to know where to find the music by itself.
I was 8 when I saw the Burger King Pokeball Recall commercial. I only saw it in full once and it scared the mess out of me. I had nightmares about that commercial for a long time. I used to think I was a weirdo because of it, but seeing how many other people it scared over time has shown me I actually wasn't so atypical in being scared of it!
These are scary and all but i have alot of nostalgia for these because when I went to my grandparents house and watched tv, these were the most common ads.
I have a love/terrified type of thing with this background music. I’m terrified of it, but at the same time, I can’t resist listening to it. It’s stupid, but I can’t explain why. Imagine seeing your medication with this background music 😱
This is by FAR the creepiest law firm ads I've had ever had seen!!
Born in 2000, and man as a kid I didn’t realize half of these were recalls but they always made me unsettled and I’d ask my mom if she took it lol she never took any of them but stiLl
Glad to know I'm not the only one that gets scared by stuff like this
I’ll never forget being 7 years old , and seeing the mesothelioma commercials, this one commercial had that same music , except certain ones would play for 20-30 seconds longer , that sound still gives me creeps to this day. No joke!
i swear there's some drug recall or law firm commercial that's been playing recently, where after the call number is shown, the narrator says "do it now" after like three whole seconds of silence, it always fucks me up when i hear it
I’m curious about this! I wonder if any RUclipsr has recorded it :o
That’s so pushy lmaoo
“Here’s the number
…
….
DO IT NOW”
There was this one commercial that talked about asbestos and I would always run out of the room when it came on
Oh God, everytime these would come on I would switch channels until it finally ended. Terrifying as a kid.
This is both nostalgic and terrifying lmao
Back when I was a kid those commercials used to give me nightmares and thinking going to church leads to hell and Satan will kill you if you don't call this number, because I was very religious at the time and the music sounds very satanic
My spine wants to escape my body when watching these
i never thought i would go out of my way to watch these
Tbh but the Burger King one is the most terrifying recall commercial I've ever seen
Absolutely. The monotone voice, dark background, talking about a choking hazard, and the lack of any music, not to mention the very VHS quality really spook me and would most definitely spook any kid who watched it when it aired.
these were always on sprout. i used to have sprout on every night while i slept, and it was soooo creepy.
Man seeing these ads as a early 200s kids weren't really creepy but made me think why is this on kids channel? Like your waching tom and jerry on boomerang or spongebob on Nickelodeon then something like this shows up. Like why?
Probably because they couldn’t market things to kids? I’m not sure. I’ve heard back then you couldn’t advertise things to kids but I think the 2000’s was more loose on this rule
@pikascoolawesome I see. Yeah, that makes sense
This is nightmare fuel taken to the next level
I saw a lot of these on tv as a kid
I was born with a heart condition, and I always asked my mom if she took any of these medicines….she didnt but it scared me as child
Great goodness gracious, I'm from the Philippines, and, well, from my perspective, it's the music and the images are unsettling.
I remember watching these they use to scare the shit out of me! Especially at midnight.
I remember i would be at my grandmothers house late at night and my grandmother and i would be sitting watching tv and these sorts of commericals would pop up. Idk why but they have this nostalgic feeling
That outtro, one of my favorite childhood songs ❤
The music in the Jim Adler commercials make me extremely uncomfortable.
If you wanna listen without the speech, it's Ominous by Whitehardt.
I saw the recall commercial at firehouse subs when im getting a sándwich
These Law Firm Commercials Have Creepy Background Music! 😱😱😱😱😱. If These Commercials Don't Get Your Attention What Does.
My mom took/takes prozac, but she dropped it when she was pregnant. It really fucked her up, but no birth defects. That PSA about antidepressants is unsettling (3:12).
All antidepressants have been linked to birth defects, that's why doctors recommend you stop taking them while pregnant
These are scary.
This is scary
Great video! Keep up all the amazing work!
I remember when i was little and i was at my grandmas house, some reason the cable we had would replace the commercials with these, and the channel i watched never normally has these in it but sure enough, it showed them. The scariest one to me was a one about contaminated water at a military camp and i got scared from the music and the speaking lady
Are you talking about the camp Lejeune commercials
@@WiiError09 omg yes

This is the first ever time I got goosebumps from watching these psas and recalls, holy shit these are legitimately creepy
