I am a typical middle-class American and I've never met anyone who cares about college prestige. I'm guessing this is an upper-middle class and rich people thing.

True…but it really depends on the kind of student you are and what high school you went to. I grew up lower middle class but I went to a charter school so everyone cared about college to an extent. Your right though regarding rich kids…all my friends who went to private school ended up going to top universities because they had tutoring, college counselors, and all the other kinds of resources needed.
Once you grow up you realize that unless your going to some top 10 college…it doesn’t matter where you get your undergrad. Go to the place that gives you the best aid-preferably a place that gives you a full ride.

Basically he is saying they want a well rounded class…not a well rounded student.
