That's 187.5 mg of iodine, how long have you been taking that dosage? I'm taking 50mg in divided dosages with 400mcg of selenium. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. ☺️💕
Uhhhh, what?! I thought I was hypo a couple yrs ago and started supplementing with 2% Lugols (iodine) at least half a dropper a day. I am now severe hyperthyroid. Having major issues.
I ate one little pack of kelp and now I feel like a drank a jug of seawater. Sore throat, pains in neck, insatiable thirst. It's like my thyroid got an overdose.
Hi Omer, We assume (based on research studies and clinical observation) that more is not always better. Some people clearly need more than others, some don't need any, and some actually get worse from iodine. The RDA is not a huge consideration except as a starting place, as we assume that dose will not make people worse.
@@swintegrative I'd like you to prove your statement when you say "Some actaully get worse from Iodine." What is the research to back up that claim? I read the research you have provided in the description but it doesn't ever say people get worse from iodine. You might be scaring some people from taking iodine with that statement even though it appears (Prima Facie) completely false.
Hi FLY TACOS, thanks for your interest. I would not want to scare anyone just inform. You can look at some of the comments in this thread and see some people get worse. I have also personally seen patient's thyroid lab numbers get worse and this is clearly documented in the literature as well. That first article in the description clearly lays this out. It is called the Wolff-Chaikoff effect and was described in 1948 by Drs Jan Wolff and Israel Lyon Chaikoff. Check it out if you want the details.
@@swintegrative Thanks for the reply. However, in my opinion, you are contradicting yourself. Yeah, I am happy to provide a lot more details on this. Which article did you end up checking out? I want to make sure we are looking at the same thing bc that article clearly describes "iodine induced hypo and hyperthyroidism". In no way do I think iodine is generally bad for thyroid or human health. It is more that some people are a little more fragile and it creates this problem. It is a small percentage of the population but that does not make the statement inaccurate. You only need to look in this thread and see that some people have worse thyroid function from iodine. Here is the article I was referencing www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3976240/

Not sure if you're still answering questions on this. I came across your video while researching Iodoral. My naturopath suggested I try taking 50mg Iodoral for a few days to see if it helps with my anxiety. I'm concerned this could be too much but I also don't understand the amounts as mcg versus Iodoral in mg. Can you clarify?
I was iodine deficient because I assumed the salt on my peanuts and cashews was iodized. It was NOT. Apparently food manufacturers use cheap non iodized salt.
I started taking a iodine supplement last year and didn't realise that they're might be side effects. I'm suffering from nerves on fire in my feet and hands at night time after taking clothes off. Started last year. So I stopped taking my iodine supplement and now feet/hand nerves fire seems to have stopped. Strange. Can anyone confirm it's the supplements?
I am not a doctor and my understanding is that iodine will displace fluoride and bromide which can cause detoxing reactions in the body. I recently started an iodine protocol and I am taking several cofactors and so far I haven’t seen any negative side effects.
Skippy I got the same feelings you described from taking prenantal pills. I was getting to much of something. When I stopp taking them the nerves calm down after a week or so.
Doc, this video has helped a lot. Never in my life have I struggled with thyroid issues until taking an iodine supplement for energy. Although I felt better after taking the iodine supplement, after a while I started to feel worse. I have aches and pains throughout my body. I have stopped the iodine supplement. Do you think that now that I have stopped these symptoms would go away?
Hi Julio, I have had this happen with one other patient but in his case it was not 100% clear that the iodine did it. I do think stopping it is a good idea and if it was from the iodine, it should resolve in a few weeks.
