I’m in the same process- I’m 58 and have chosen to be in celibacy and no relationship for the last 3 years. My nervous system has been healing and my relationship with myself and ability to look at my patterns all so helpful. I’m motivated to explore the 12 steps of SLA. Thank you❤

    I need this . I’m 76 and didn’t get into SLAA till 76.

This is so good! The thoughtfulness of her examining her trauma, our culture, and the reframe of the steps is so lucid. I want to send it to almost my friends who have identified as codependent. Yes, there is still a hesitancy in calling it sla. Her line about the seriousness of the disease and how people are dying everyday because of this was extremely powerful.
May we all find support in seeing ourselves clearly and receiving guidance and support with a way out❤

I think you should publish the book, and use the profits to help Ukrainians.
I would also use the book tour to highlight Ukranian voices and stories.
It’s a huge problem in the US that so many Congressmen are refusing to aid Ukraine, I think a few hundred women being reminded to call their Congressmen would do a huge amount of good

Eat Pray Love moved me. And committed broke my heart. It killed the magic somehow. And strangely both books are honest. But the love ran out in Committed. And also the fact that she became woke, lesbian and broke that marriage which we all felt was a sign of universal magic, just felt like a let down. And no I am not judging....but it's like...u make someone believe in magic and then throw a bucket of cold water on their faces and say "Get up. Stop day dreaming".

Sweetie I think you took it too far in the other direction.
Your ego has a role to play. You're allowed to want things AND have them for no reason other than that you want them. Denying that sounds a lot like codependency. And Byron Katie's nonsense that not having something means you don't need it? That's like the definition of a codependent rationalisation of one's own self-deprivation. It's a rationalisation to make the world make narrative sense so you feel okay. Like a little child would do.
You can want something and deserve it and not get it because it be like that sometimes and you can cope with the pain of that without taking the blame back onto yourself or pretending you never needed it and therefore you don't have to want it. You want and need things. You're allowed.
