My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

Oh yes, our devices are listening and conspiring! My hub and I were talking about wearing socks to bed (I must wear them, he cannot he said). Anyway the next day I had sock ads on my FB and his yahoo had an article titled, "Should you wear socks to bed?" Like wtf?!!! Not ok! 😆😃

Anyone living in their van must know the basics of simple maintenance. And have a schedule and record of things to do and done. Also carry basics as filters and belts. Not everywhere you go or breakdown in will have what you may need.
Rome was not built in a day. Will probably take 2-3 tanks of diesel fuel in a row with SeaFoam in them to work. Then, as I said, add every 3-4 tanks to keep it clean. I can only give advice from what worked for myself and my friend. Cheers mate.

You are an invaluable friend Matthew. The patience you have to teach basic mechanics is admirable. A beautiful gift you are giving Amber as she will be able to do some of her vehicle's maintenance saving money.

After 2 decades of diy oil changes... Make sure you clean the oil filter mating surface and the old rubber gasket is not stuck on there. I use a torque wrench on the drain plug (a lil over 20 ft lbs for most) and sometimes swap out the drain plug gasket... Quick google search or join car owners forums for any quirk your vehicle may have been experienced by others

hi Matthew and Amber. thanks for sharing your life with us.Amber ya may wanna listen to Matthew about your engine and fluids its SUPER IMPORTANT cause i know from experience if ya dont stay on top of checking and filling them regularly you'll blow a rod or two and then it will cost you a new motor. trust me that was a very bad day .Matthew hope your back gets to feeling better that siatica is a real B....! really hope ya dont have to have back surgery so hoping maybe exersize & theraphy may help some ,me ive been there done all that now i just use deep heating rub and electric shock from a portable tens unit. love it ,thats what happends when you've been in 5 car wrecks n 1 motorcyle wreck in a span of 40yrs ya get bounced around just a tad .lol peace & love two ya both ,oh hug the kitties they are so adorable

I bet Penny will be a good mouser at your parent's place. We have a catio for our 2 kittens that's fully enclosed with hardware cloth and window screen, except there are slight gaps at the bottom near the house. My Stella found a baby mouse out there and killed it (I doubt it was dead when she came upon it), then brought it inside as a present for my son. She put it on the floor next to his bed where he found it when he woke up the next day. Lol.

when I worked at United Rentals, when we changed the fuel filters we filled the filters up with ATF, that gave it just enough detergant to clean the injectors. Don't know if that will be the same on your heater or not. But you run your heater a lot more than me. But my van is only an office on the job site and in the lower U.S..

Oil change step 1 open hood remove oil filler cap to help oil to drain .
Step 2 raise vehicle on lift.
Step 3 remove drain plug with catch funnel in place.
Step 3 replace drain plug.
Step 4 remove oil filter
Step 5 oil up new filter gasket and install filter. Snug filter
Step 6 lower vehicle replace oil
Step7 start engine and check for leaks
Step 8 turn off engine and check oil.
Step 9 congratulate yourself. On being independant. Have a nice say. Tom in the Maritimes at the NB-NS border

Replace your seat cushion and cover - this will help improve your back problem! I speak from experience! Your seat cushion is broken down, causing you to sit unevenly, putting undue pressure on your lower spine! It is like replacing broken down shoes that hurt your feet, and when you wear your new shoes your feet feel so much better! Chrome recently bought new seats cushions and seat covers, check out his video to see where he bought his.
Try to clean the combustion chamber and ignition chamber in the diesel heater. It is probably built up crap in there.

My tortie Pepper 8 yrs old Easter, has pyometra, infection in the girly parts, can potentially be fatal, 2nd antibiotic shot tomorrow of 3. ..before blood panel, praying her white counts is closer to the normal range. Then surgery in a hurry. Sorta stressed here. I'm glad to see Stella being active for the best part. 🐾🐾💕 Thank you as always for the laughs today, I need them😅.

Don’t know if you know this, but you should see a neurologist. A chiropractor is more a muscle doc. Neurologist is nerve doc. Sciatica is what is happening to your back it’s pinching a nerve thus the pain down your leg. Just saying. It’s up to you but thought you should know. Sorry will stop preaching to you. I know the pain you’re going through and it’s not easy.

I'll have my phone on to directions to somewhere and i know it's hearing everything I'm talking about with my friend because ads pop up on that subject. Hey Matt regarding your dc to dc charger on why the voltage doesnt increase as much as it used to before. This is due to the very low resistance on lithium batteries, they will literally absorb whatever you throw at them and will increase in voltage as they creep up in their State of Charge. Lead acids will spike the voltage as soon as they start getting current in. Infact this will cause your dc to dc charger to work harder than before and also fill your batteries much quicker during short drives.

I would suggest that you use about quarter to half the bottle of the sea foam. In the 10 litre tank.
I run a half bottle of it in my 3 diesel units once a year.
I would also recommend that you might want to consider changing the glow plug and the air screen.
I have been very blessed with all Three of my diesel heater units and have never had any issues.
The one in my trailer is 3 years now this season will be 4 years.
The pickup truck one is one full year as is the one in my garage.
Hopefully this helps.
