I’m a nurse who has used gabapentin scheduled and as needed over the years and when pain comes back I restart my dosing. Always follow ya doc advise ur pain is individual to you! Stay well🙏🏾
I use Gabapentin when I'm at my worst then stop as well been doing it for years with the okay from my MD.
I'm one of those people for whom the drug side effects are almost as unpleasant as the pain. I tend to use not-enough meds in times of pain because my brain tends to freewheel (as in, "gears not engaged") and I hate that feeling. On the other hand, maybe that just means I have an unusually high pain threshold, idk 🤷. All I'm saying is, I understand cutting back too soon.
I'm that person for whom a double knee replacement was recommended in 2006. It's only become a pain issue for me in the last 4 or 5 years. I'm still waiting, as if the pain might go away on its own....
A trail bike accident left me laying flat on the floor on a sleeping bag with the flattest pillow, (Granddads down filled 50 year old pillow) for one month, other option was to go into the hospital in traction for 2 weeks. HOME is what I chose. Lived alone so no one had to step over me!😆 30 years later, lower back goes out about 2 to 3 times a year. Sciatica is a game STOPPER! Wishing healing powers for everyone!

Thank you for taking care with the gabapentin. Weaning off of it with the doctor is best. I just saying dont abruptly stop taking it. Now on to the meat of my comment. It sure is nice now that you have beep beep the jeep, that you can park her inside a parking garage with he lower profile. It gives you more options. Matthew, you have the kindest heart i love how you and Amber mesh together. She is i super kind lady and i wish the very best for your friendship. I know you arent a couple but having a friend that you can rely on and who returns the effort is such a rare thing these days. I love your relationship with Sadie and Lindsey. My cousins and i are not close.
You have to do what's best for your body. At almost 72, I have to be SUPER careful with this arthritis pain in my left hip. I am alone and CANNOT afford a fall and not be able to get up. I have to literally say to myself hold onto to towel rack inside shower, right leg in, left leg in. Take BABY steps to turn on shower. SLOWLY walk with baby steps to towel rack, to dry off and use towel rack to get out. It's hard because I'm used to doing this without giving it a 2nd thought. Getting old is hard with no one to help you.

Oh Matt, welcome to the "I learned my Gabapentin lesson " club. I did much the same as you and now know it did not work. It was a hard lesson to learn but I think the message got thru my thick skull now.
They ship all lithium batteries at less than half charge for safety purposes, and I think there are probably also postal regulations which require such too.

P.s. I did the same thing when I had my hip replacement. The pain got away from me and the dr said I needed to take the meds until they ran out and not listen to anyone else. Turned out my ex fiancé tried to talk me out of using them because, he told me, “I could get addicted to them” when he actually wanted them to sell them. Thus, the EX fiancé!

@VanlifePlus Thank God! 🙏 That's not one you stop taking without the doctor overseeing it! Stoping it cold Turkey 🦃 can cause seizures. Surgical pain can last a bit! So glad to see you continue to improve! ❤🎉
Matthew was tapering down; it looks very much to me as if he knew what he was doing.
@Melissa Thompson Yes! However, the point of this video was that he caused himself unnecessary pain because he had tapered too quickly. He got scared/freaked out by reading our comments and the possible side effects off the internet. So he's instead now going to work with his surgeon to taper more slowly with his doctors advice. ❤️ Thanks so much for your comment though, because Yes, his goal is to taper off completely! 🌹

I had total knee replacement in March 2023. The doctor and physical therapists told me it takes a year to fully heal. I don’t have pain anymore but for the first 3-4 months there was pain off and on. Don’t rush things. You will eventually reach complete healing. Listen to your doctor and no one else (not even me!!) All the best.

Nice gesture passing that on to Amber, Matthew. I saw a guy set up a heated pad under his lithium/LifePo battery inside a small tote. It was the kind that you put under animal water bowls to stop them freezing in winter. It drew very little power but kept the battery at a suitable temp. Might be worth considering for Regina as her floor gets so chilly. Also saw CT had a heated battery wrap in last weeks flyer but not sure on the power draw compared to the warming pad. 👍🏻

I don’t often comment but I work in Healthcare and was going to comment on your medications. Gabby’s are designed as a nerve pain blocker and yes, some people do abuse it. But you’re given it for a reason ffs! You had a back surgery, the main nervous system in your body and you need it!! Everyone just needs to shut the eff up. Glad you’re trusting your doctor, you got this, that was a major surgery.

Good call Matt, the doctor is there to help you heal, everyone else just sees you videos, but are not medical and/or in you presence to evaluate you condition. I just turned 65 on 11/03, and I take on average about 17 different meds in morning and 9 at night. I've read about side effects but the doctor knows better for you .take care and stay safe Jim from Cincinnati

Everybody is different, i had a buddy on gabapentin for ten years so when my doctor prescribed i was like cool.....no, wrong
Doctors Practice.
Turns out everbody is different and doctors rely on accurate feedback and always tell you to stop taking immediately if you have a bad reaction. This way they can suggest alternative measures. Some people like my Daughter has a wide range of allergies.
People and Doctors mean well but nobody knows your body like you! As an old man i realized Health is number one, i only wish i had taken it more seriously when i was younger.

Always, Always, Always take your medications as directed from your provider. Never stop a medication or alter the dose without consulting your provider. I cannot tell people this enough. 99.9% of the time there is a specific reason why you should be taking a medication or combo of meds. Glad you went and got the same information as this. Good Luck on your recovery.
I know some people have had issues with gabapentin. But, I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I also have neuropathy. For me personally, without gabapentin I am nearly useless. I've been taking it for a few years now. So do with that, what you will. Definitely listen to your doctor but most importantly - listen to YOUR body. 🙂
I think a couple of years down the LINE, when you get ready to _build_ a new tiny home in a new van, these experiences will inform how you set up the _new tiny home_ in the future where to put things so they are easier to reach and maintain..

New Vanlife sound track " Stop dragging my car around". Weird Al. When I was as kid we dragged a car around behind an R.V. We learned we had to keep the front wheels up or the odometer would run. I'm sure those days are done? Thoughts? Also the big mudders on the back to keep damage down on the front of the car. Gravel and such. This was in S.W Calgary and most of the places you go.😂

A few years ago I became allergic to ibuprofen and naproxen and a couple years ago after my back surgery I found out gabapentin causes my hands and fingers to swell up horribly. I'm glad you can take gabapentin
Always listen to your Dr. or pharmacist when it comes to medications or anything having to do with your health.
