    First of all thank you for watching. Some things to note.
    1.)This film is about a group of friends doing something that they have NO IDEA what they are doing. It’s a story about the friendship, group dynamics and struggles that ensue. Not a how-to or history lesson on train hopping. I would have filmed on a go pro, gone with or interviewed experienced hoppers and been more low key. But some people don’t consider we are each walking around with a large DSLR camera ( myself being a black magic 4K camera) which is a little less than low key. Lol 😂
    2.) This was filmed over 3 years ago, so a lot of people’s pre conceived notions (especially socio-political ones) about those in the film should be taken with a grain of salt. Times were different, even just with the little time that has passed.
    3.) The film portrays and highlights a lot of group drama because quite frankly, it is what makes a story interesting. Contrary to what you may think, 80 percent of the trip was a great laid back time 😄🤙.
    4.) Duh, if I wanted to make it across the US way easier if I would have done it by myself. But that wouldn’t be as fun or interesting, and pushing the limits of the experience is the whole point ( to run into conflict, problems etc.) most people don’t realize but from where we started in Southern California to where we got caught was over 1700 miles away. There are much quicker (and easier) ways to get across America Via train. But we took the high line because we are a shooting a documentary and wanted to experience and film the most scenic and beautiful parts of America. If we would have put that into eastbound miles as apposed to northbound ( the direction we took ) we would have been nearly 3/4ths the way there. So all considering I think it’s amazing we even got as far as we did considering our footprint. Anyways, I wouldn’t have done it any other way🤷🏼‍♂️😀.
    I feel like this will answer most questions or comments that have been left. Thank you all so much for watching and all your support!

      Pin this! And P.S. to everyone: Thanks a bunch for watching! I see a bunch of people commenting on how it is disappointing that we didn't get to our destination, and some people are legitimately mad at us for that. While I agree it was disappointing for us as well, consider how much fun we had just getting to where we did get to. It's soooooo much more about the journey than the destination. Remember that!

      Man I wish that you were able to document that whole trip and your whole experience......and I get that even if you did do so....that it wasn't part of why you did it and that filming it would have gone totally against why you even did that trip in the first place. However wish you decided to film it just for your own memory....and then one day just decided to upload it to RUclips and when you never thought you did because you only wanted to record it for personal memories and nostalgia. However I....and I'm sure many many others....would love to read and enjoy your experience if you were to write and detail as much as you can and that you can remember from the trip and beginning to end....and no matter how long you take to write it and how long it takes to read it. The longer and the more detailed the better lol.

    I work for the BNSF railway and I don't rat train hoppers out. But you guys were being too brazen and set yourselves up for failure. The key to the thing is..stay OUT of sight! lol Oh well, it was a good video while it lasted. I'm glad none of you got wrapped around the axle of a train car like a wet washrag..it happens and it isn't pretty. Stay safe

    • @dylanmorgan2752
      @dylanmorgan2752 5 лет назад +160

      It’s good of you to freely admit to not ratting hoppers out. But you’re right, these guys were inexperienced and should’ve actually had a brain between them to do this. They were just standing up in a group while going through populated areas and alongside motorways which is a tutorial on the quickest and easiest way to get caught. As well as not hiding behind cover when locomotives were passing by. It’s amazing they made it as far as they did.

    To anyone who is wanting to travel like this, here’s a few tips from what I’ve learned doing it with and without friend.
    Pack nuts, trail mix, or protein bars. They’re light, full of calories and fill you up without causing you too much time setting up. If you want more of a filling meal, beef jerky, tortillas w/peanut butter, and freeze dried meals are light enough to carry and dense in calories.
    DO NOT try to hop on when a train is speeding past, you will either get seriously injured or die(you’re lucky if you get inured). ALWAYS three points of contact(at least two feet and one hand) to balance you. And NEVER stick your head out in a tunnel(because you can’t see what’s in front of you).
    Bring earplugs because it is LOUD. Have a neck pillow(it’s a luxury that slightly cumbersome but it’s worth it). Always have gloves(black or tan).
    Never fall asleep unless you are secure and do not roll around in your sleep while ON the train. If you do sleep off the train, try to find a place that doesn’t have slot of litter around(generally that means people are living their and you won’t get stabbed or attacked).
    CASH IS KING. Always have cash on you because it will save your ass. I was almost arrested when I slipped someone a twenty and asked if I could go. It works most of the time, just not all the time.
    Do not do drugs unless you are in safe company. You CANNOT trust people you don’t know, especially when you are high as a fucking kite.
    Never bring a guitar or musical instrument, and definitely don’t bring any portable speaker. You will be found faster than you think.
    Make sure you pack for the climate and time of year. If you’re going in spring, pack for rain. Winter make sure to have warm clothes/warm sleeping accommodations. Summer, something cool. And Autumn varies, but always try to have warm-ish clothes that you can change in case it’s still warm.
    Always fill up on water. You’ll go through it faster than you think. Never get it from a creek or a pond, and always boil it even it’s from the top of a river. Stagnant water is always a no go. Water is surprisingly cheap, so if you can’t find any, just buy some. Having a tap key is helpful, just make sure to boil it to be safe. Also, always boil snow if you’re going to drink it.
    Don’t fall in love, it never ends well and you’ll both end up miserable. And always use condoms when having sex. Mouth wash after oral(trust me).
    Make sure to know the difference between a hard stop and a slow stop. Sudden stops in the middle of nowhere is usually either because the trains fucked or you’re fucked. If you hear people, stay put and get ready to run. If it’s a slow stop in a town or a yard, you’re usually in the clear, but still be cautious and don’t be stupid.
    Finally, don’t take risks. If you’re 6th sense is telling you not to do something, DON’T DO IT. And if you’re gut is telling you to run, duck, or hide, listen to to your gut and so what’s easiest.
    Also, fuck the dude with the blonde hair and glasses. All he would do would whine, bitch, and moan about how shit wasn’t going his way or would get in everybody else’s faces and just call them selfish or would just constantly fight everyone. Fuck that dude.

    Pretty cool for the first half, sort of disintegrates towards the end. There's a reason why people like Shiey etc get away with it so seamlessly - he takes a GoPro, at most 2 friends at a time (3 in total) and usually does it in countries where you are less likely to be caught. There are simply too many of you for this to work, and too many people in the group are not on the same page. Doing this in the US must be tricky with so many people as security is usually top-notch, which doesn't help when you are exposed and out in the open. Hopefully you can revisit this another time, and hopefully with just one other person, and someone that is agreeable and can work to make this happen. GoPro will also help massively so that you don't have to lug around a DSLR.

    This is coming from a O.G. train Hopper you boys did good you stuck together you hung in there the most important you had fun.. some of the best views there is to see is from a train.. train hopping is the most Glorious most beautifulest Polaroid moments you could get is from a train but what I loved about this documentary is you didn't just show the good you showed the ups and downs the bad the good also..so I applaud you gentlemen.. but let me give you guys a little tip train hopping is not just about hopping on a train it's more about finding finding yourself finding beautiful spots to camp and enjoy yourself for a week or two in each spot just enjoy life the train ride is just a bonus it gets you from point A to point B only with a more scenic view than a car ride so if you ever plan on train hopping in the future again don't rush it just take a slow ride live life Camp Under the Stars it's not all about riding the train.. I mean don't get me wrong if you're in a hurry to get from point a to point b it can be just about riding the train but I guess what I'm trying to say is if you just take it slow it'll all come more easier and enjoyable anyways enough of me rambling this was the best documentary I've seen in a long time it brought back a lot of memories for me I am sick and can't hop trains like I used to so thank you gentleman for such a great video..

    • @Kamofy
      @Kamofy 6 лет назад +4

      It's bo hoe so you are an og hopper as in old or experienced? I'll admit, the film was good, but their tactics and lack of preparation shows from the very first train they hopped on. Under a semi trailer? Really? Just begging for the bull to arrest them. And why in God's name they did not dip into the woods and never got back on the train (which they were riding on for 20 some hours to begin with) is beyond me. Clearly didn't do the research. Best way to learn is from hopping with an experienced hobo on a few short runs to get the feel for it.

    Man this was raw and really refreshing. You guys are friends obviously but you showed the tension and conflict and the awkward "I don't know what the heck we're doing" moments that made me feel like I could have been right there. Thanks for showing reality, even your own apology at the end.
    But honestly bro. I know this was three years ago. I know I'm totally ignorant of your relationships and the deal you all made to join this adventure together..but you shouldn't say sorry. At least not from what I saw. I bet most people watching were getting frustrated at how lax the team was getting when the trucks showed up. You should have booked it out of there! And so what about the jail time, who gets to say that!? You went to jail for a dream you had. Search the "24 rules of filmmaking" by Werner Herzog. Rule number 2: "There is nothing wrong with spending the night in jail if it means getting the shot you need."
    That final group meeting wrecked me man. Saying they did it for you and the went to jail for you and your documentary because doing it alone would be boring, almost as if they did you a favor..I don't think you deserve that.
    To Justin with his own words at 1:20:18 - "You signed on, you knew what you were getting into and what the ramifications were if you got caught.
    Definitely subbed and I don't even know what other videos you have on your channel. I love the spirit of this and hope to find/see more!

I don't know what its like in America,, but I would have thought some jobs require a squeaky clean record. I guess it depends on what you want to do in life and what it's like in America. I'm not saying I'm a squeaky clean person I just like to fly under the radar!! There were times I wouldn't have minded getting arrested. But now I think to myself, it's quite handy having a clean record.

      I'm in the UK and don't know a great deal about the prison system in America. From the documentaries I know the prisons are vile; I can gather that jails aren't as bad as prisons, but surely, even jail is a horrendous place!!? Especially for someone who has never been inside before?! Trying to act hard like jail is no big deal is just silly. No one wants to be held hostage somewhere, even if that place was fairly pleasant, which jail certainly wouldn't be.

It's a dangerous world on the wild side - easy to get sidetracked partying. Jump in and out of the adventures - always assessing your goals, ensuring your making progress and making sober corrections.

    I posted this under Marcus' thoughts which should help put the trip into a better perspective for most of you but just wanted to re-post my thoughts here just in-case it helps anyone understand the trip dynamic better! ----> First and foremost thanks a bunch for watching! Marcus worked incredibly hard on this project and I know it has taken many, many hours for this to come to fruition in the state that it is in now (which I think most people will agree, it's an incredibly entertaining and enjoyable documentary!). I see a bunch of people commenting on how it is disappointing that we didn't get to our destination, and some people are legitimately mad at us for that. While I agree it was disappointing for us as well, consider how much fun we had just getting to where we did get to. We saw some incredible things and met a bunch of really amazing people, and not only that but created so many memories that I know all of us cherish and stuff that you can look back on in 20 years and say: "Wow, me and my boys really did that". It's soooooo much more about the journey than the destination. Remember that!
