    Pro tip for meals with a sauce/veggies and tofu: Fry up your tofu first until it's crispy, then remove from the pan. Do the rest of the cooking (veggies and sauce) in the pan, and add the tofu maybe a minute before serving. That way it keeps its firmer texture, caramelisation and crispiness without burning, while the rest of the components can get soft and well cooked/emulsified. I recently started doing this after years of cooking with tofu, and it makes suuuch a difference when the tofu actually has a great texture!

    • @sini234
      @sini234 Год назад +1

      I started out this way, but switched to adding the Tofu to the onions in the beginning and having it soak in the sauce as that cooks - while I agree, texture is better when the tofu is taken out, taste is so much… more, if you leave it to cook with the sauce.
      Moste of the time, I even find these dishes better the second day - no more (remotely) crispy tofu, but the saucy taste I want :)

      What type of oil do you use for the tofu if you need any

    • @AliciaDawson
      @AliciaDawson Год назад

      @@thepriceisright048 Depends on the dish, usually I use olive oil tbh but if I am going into a more asian direction I sometimes use a more neutral oil like rapeseed. Remember if you want to use sesame oil at some point, do it just at the end as it's a finishing oil and will burn very quickly rather than giving that awesome flavour!

      @@AbbeysKitchenexcept idol oatmeal is more strict. I'm very well acquainted with two of the BP members from PFW (we go to the same shows and have a similar network group).
      BP's actual diet for tour:
      Breakfast: 1/2 serving of plain oatmeal (made with water, no salt, sugar, NOTHING extra on it. Completely plain), iced Anericano with no sugar (all coffee is pretty much always an Americano, so one shot of espresso and water or sparkling water).
      Lunch: Mixed green salad with 4 cherry tomatoes, no dressing, salt, or pepper. Only the greens and the tomatoes.
      Snack- 1/4 boiled sweet potato
      Dinner - same as lunch, just exchange the cherry tomatoes for 1/4 serving of boiled tofu.
      Beverages: only water, barley or green tea (no milk or sugar), Americano
      That's ALMOST it. Except there is a caveat... days with live performances or photo shoots, no drinking anything except a few sips (or rinse and spits) of water until afterwards. Also, no lunch or snack, and dinner only after the performance is done. They also take orlistat and phentermine/topiramate that is given by the agency.
      Their agency justifies keeping the diet so low so that they can occasionally go out to eat for business dinners, though they aren't allowed to eat anything the next day if they do.

    Not a lot of Korean people eat oatmeal... "Porridge" probably refers to a Korean style rice porridge called "Juk" that most people eat when they are sick or dieting.

  • @iamkid_a

    their porridge is probably a juk or rice porridge but savory oats are really good too :O also gochujang is pronounced with a soft a - so not like "bang" or "rang" but more like "long" or "song" with an -ah sound and not an A sound! same with doenjang which is more like DEN-JAHNG

    I appreciate this video SO much! During my ED recovery, I discovered K-pop, and I ended up slipping up because I was trying to now attain a new “standard”. But because I was doing well in recovery my body wasn’t allowing me to have the ED like I did before, and I went the other way into binge eating. I would then validate my binge eating because on a lot of shows these idols were on involved a lot of eating despite outside of these shows they’re depriving themselves.
    I haven’t been into K-pop for a while now, but from what I’ve seen the idols are only getting skinnier and skinner and I wonder what that is doing to the fans.

I used to watch vlogs like this even from non-famous korean girls too a while ago, and I was always amazed how wrong they get things... my "fav" was something like: make sure you weight yourself in the morning AND evening too and the evening weight should be less then the morning one like WHAT?! humanely impossible... since k-pop is getting more and more well-known (especially affecting younger generations) I think it's really important to raise awareness on it's faults so if you could do some more debunking videos on this topic that would be really amazing.

      what Jennie was probably talking about with the 'no-added salt' is juk, or Korean porridge, not our western concept of porridge - it is a savoury dish made from rice, oats, or other grains. it's kind of similar to congee if you are familiar with that. That's why she mentioned not adding salt - because it is a savoury dish so salt would be expected! It would be like saying I have porridge with no added sugar.

      I don’t believe Abbey would describe herself as a HAES dieting - my interpretation is that she’s mainly anti-diet culture, which makes thinness the ultimate pursuit and disguises aesthetic goals with “wellness” messaging. Even if obesity increases certain health risks, a lot of the negativity aimed at obese individuals has more to do with their appearance. Genuine concern for someone’s health doesn’t result in shaming. Focusing on healthy eating > weight loss is more likely to result in long term sustainable changes. It’s just about shifting the mindset. It’s also better for most people’s mental health to focus on directly controllable behaviors (healthy eating, exercise) than indirect results like weight loss, which can be impacted by an number of confounding variables.

      Maybe poorly worded, but if you have extremely picky kids or kids who just won’t enough, supplements can sometimes be the only way to make sure they don’t have a deficit. My little sister often eats little and has not much appetite, unless it comes to certain foods that won’t provide all the nutrients she needs. It’s getting much better, but it used to be so bad my mom gave her sweets or desserts for school so she would eat anything at all in school. She needed some supplements, it was the only way. I guess that’s or something like that is what she meant.
      But yes, Abbey should have probably worded it differently.

    This channel is just about pushing some kind of brand deal for a shake or pointless supplement. Hey, why would you need that if your diet is balanced, right! And Abbey has tuned in to the whole "anti-diet culture" trend while dissing and dissecting other peoples preferred diet. She's just an influencer chasing them Can$, guys, she is definitely not a profet.

    Two things I'd like to add to this comment section, because I feel like these misconceptions come up a lot when kpop issues are discussed in non-kpop spaces.
    1) kpop fans do NOT ignore the harmful stuff idols have to go through. Often we are the most vocal in demanding better treatment for them. Yes there are toxic fans out there, but if you spend any time on kpop social media you will see that most fans are always advocating for better treatment. So I don't wanna see any stupid "the kpop stans are mad" comments on here. What makes me mad is when people assume we don't care about idols health.
    2) the extreme diets you hear about are most likely crash diets for comebacks, and are not what idols eat on a regular basis. IU has said that her famous sweet potato diet was unsustainable and she quit after a few days. Not excusing these diets bc they're still awful, but don't think idols eat like this 24/7.

    • @Diana-qp2rw
      @Diana-qp2rw Год назад

      I think, unfortunately, that make the diets even more harmful. Many people who want to be skinny and don’t know much about weight loss will just assume that’s their everyday diet and think that’s what they have to do.
      I also don’t like that celebrities “have to” do such crash diets, but I think it’s especially harmful to young people who don’t realize that’s not what they eat everyday.

    I don't stand by this lifestyle - but the excessive amounts of dance practice isn't to put them into a calorie deficit it's actually for their jobs, being an idol means you have to be a good DANCER, usually for idols this means achieving perfection just to debut in trainee days and they're expected to maintain that standard and even improve over the years with each comeback. And Lisa is a main dancer of the group so she's expected to be the best of the best when it comes to performing. Again it's probably still just as toxic - but it's not a food/meal or calorie related thing.
    In fact, Jisoo and Jennie have said many times that Lisa and Rose actually are the type that try to eat more and more when they sit down to eat because they're the type that needs to gain 'weight'.

  • @ololusername

    if you claim to be trying their diet i think you should probably commit to it or not add "was this too extreme?" when you plan to be adding things like eggs and yoghurt to what is supposed to be plain porridge. obviously not extreme

    Truth be told these girls eat way more food than a lot of artists. Rosé has been nicknamed Foodisé because she is not afraid to eat on camera and she has the smallest waist out of the girls. Also, the girls have been enjoying hot pot since being on tour. Also, I’ve never seen their managers or staff take away any of their food unlike some groups. Rosé, and Jisoo are known to have a bowl of Ramen or something hot to warm up their body before a show.
    “Born skinny, b!7ch, I am thin even if I gain weigh” Lisa in Pretty Savage
    I can’t remember if it was talk about your last video with K-pop, but in the second generation, and beginning of third generation they used to weigh the girls at every time they practice and it was time for lunch/dinner. If they were above the weight they were told they would not be allowed to eat they would have to go and continue to dance to lose weight. some companies are more strict on their food intake. There are some who are not as strict, but they are so much better than what they were back in the early days of K-pop.
    Also, there’s a lot of Koreans(not just idols)that will not intake a ton of salt just because they always feel bloated, especially in their face in the morning.

    The girls actually eat a pretty diverse diet from what I’ve seen; there’s numerous videos here on RUclips of them just eating and enjoying all sorts of food. Rosé in particular is a huge foodie and always lights up when there’s food around 🤣 we like to call her our little foodsé. Jisoo eats really well too!
    There was a time when people were super concerned about Lisa and Rosé cause they’re both so skinny, but I really do think it’s because of their natural body composition as well as their singing and dancing, not a result of purposely restricting their diets.
